The Water Lord's daughter, Seraphina was in one of the medical gardens, tending to the plants there. Her bodyguard, Adri, was with her as well. Seraphina knew that she had a meeting with her father and the Fire Lord Valiant to discuss her future. A future that she wanted to decide for herself but it was out her hands as she already knew that her father had arranged her to marry Valiant years ago in a treaty with Fire nation. She wanted to be free to marry whoever that she wanted to. But to keep the peace between her nation and the Fire nation, Seraphina had to marry Valiant.

"Princess Seraphina, it's time to leave now for the meeting."Adri reminded his charge, knowing what was going through Princess Seraphina's mind at the moment. He knew that she hadn't been looking forward to this meeting. Adri couldn't blame her, but it was something she had to do for her people, for their safety. There were some things one could not avoid when one was of royal birth. If things had been different.... No, he dared not let himself think of it....

"I know Adri, but I do want to get this last bit of the mint leaves that are ready for harvesting. Want to finish this plant that I'm tending to at least..."She said back to Adri before picking the last few leaves. Sera wanted to delay going to the meeting but she knew that she shouldn't. She took a deep breathe and then got the last leaf that was ready. She placed it into her basket and then got up. The two began walking back to the castle for the meeting.


Lord Atticus was looking out the window that had a view of the medical garden. He saw that his only daughter was there, picking some type of herb and Adri was with her. In his mind, he could see how the two could become a very happy couple. But that would never be as Seraphina was already promised to someone else, to Lord Valiant in fact. He knew that she had had a crush on her bodyguard for a time there but had gotten over it, he hoped. Atticus knew that Adri hadn't encouraged it, the poor lad. Adri is a loyal guardian to her and couldn't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't hired him to take good care of her over these past ten years...

Sooner than later, there was a knocking on the door to the private parlor that the meeting was going to take place."Who is it?"Lord Atticus asked before turning away from the window."It's the Fire Lord Valiant is here to see you, my Lord.""Let him in please."Lord Atticus said as he glanced out the window once more to see that Seraphina and Adri were at the entrance doors and coming inside. He then sat down in his chair that that was facing the doorway, waiting for Lord Valiant to enter the chamber.

Valiant silently entered the room, his hand on his hilt as he walked to the center of the room. "Lord Atticus..." Valiant began with a slight nod. "It has been a long time." He said, his face expressionless as he extended a hand of friendship.

Another figure stood beside him, a thin, scholarly figure who pushed up his glasses and looked towards Atticus with a slight frown. This is not what he expected when he agreed to come with his cousin to visit the place. Still, he knew his place. He remained silent, standing slightly behind Valiant like a bodyguard or vassal.

Lord Atticus let a smile spread across his face as Lord Valiant came into the room with his cousin.What was his cousin's name again? Wait, it's Maximilian if I remember correctly. I hope Seraphina comes soon... He thought before getting up from his chair to go shake Valiant's hand."Too long I'm afraid but glad that you and your cousin had arrived here safely. How was your trip over here today?"Lord Atticus asked as he shook Val's hand and then let go."My daughter should be here shortly and while we wait, there are refreshments for all." He said, gesturing to the table with the food and drinks on it. There was plenty of snack food for five people to make it a light meal if they wanted to. It was mid-afternoon, too late for lunch but too early for supper.

Once Seraphina was in the castle, she and Adri went straight to her room. Adri waited outside while she changed into a clean outfit to meet Valiant in. With the help from her few maids, it only took about five minutes to change clothes and straighten her hair into shape. She was slightly nervous about meeting Lord Valiant for the first time in what seemed like years. She did wonder if they would be able to love each other in time. Seraphina wouldn't know what to think if Valiant would want to go ahead and want to get married already. She hoped not, not yet at least. There was other things to focus on right now than their pending marriage.

It didn't take them long to get to the private parlor that the meeting was being held. "It's Princess Seraphina and her bodyguard, Sir Adri."Adri opened the door for Seraphina once her father had given them permission to enter. Seraphina first went over to her father and curtsy to him. " Good afternoon father," she said after curtsying to him. Then she turned to Valiant and his vassal or family member. " Welcome to our home Lord Valiant and to you as well."Seraphina said to the both of them after giving them a curtsy. She wished that she knew the other man's name but couldn't remember if she had met him before now.

"Uneventful, as it should be." Valiant replied to Atticus. "I'm slightly regretful that I could not come sooner. Still, I am a ruler and my children need their father." He stated. He commonly referred to his subjects as his children, so there was no question in the meaning of his words. "I thank you for your hospitality." He nodded.

Max gave a grateful nod to Atticus as well, still staying behind his cousin. "Val, you should be careful with your words in front of your future father in law. If we didn't know better, he might think you're openly having an affair, that that would not be good." He jested.

"Oh hold your tongue." Valiant replied, lightly bumping the arm of his cousin to return the jest, though it appeared as if he was being serious. Luckily, Max knew the difference.

"Of course, Fire Lord." Max nodded with a smirk and slight bow. Both Valiant and Maximilian turned when they saw Seraphina and Adri enter the room. Valiant simply looked with his usual, stern eyes while Max tried his hardest not to whistle. Max looked between Seraphina and Adri and leaned over his cousins shoulder, whispering something in his ear.

Valiant frowned and gave a small nod back to Max. Hesitantly, he walked over to Seraphina and took her hand, kissing it, as was customary. "It's been a while, my lady." Valiant stated, though the tone in his voice was ever so slightly sad, even if his face was still unreadable. "I am well. How are you?"

"I understand, my children need me here as well or Seraphina and I might have come over to visit you instead. Your welcome Lord Valiant and hope that your stay here will be a pleasant one."Lord Atticus said back to him, knowing that Valiant was talking about his subjects when he said children. His eldest son was on a journey through the water nation, seeing what areas might need fixing or need help from the crown. If it hadn't been for Lord Valiant's penting visit, he would have gone himself.

Before he could say anything else, the door opened and his only daughter appeared along with her bodyguard. "Welcome Seraphina." He said after she had curtsied to him. Atticus had noticed the looks that Val and Max had on their faces when they saw Seraphina. He would have though that Val would have greeted her a little more warmly than he did. For Max, it looked like he interested in her more so. It concerned him some but would not dwell on it for now.

Seraphina did wonder why Val had a slight, sad tone to his voice. It would make some one feel if they were not glad to see the other person. Her eyes were questioning why that sad tone but she didn't voice the question itself. " It has been my Lord Valiant. I'm glad that you have made it here safe and sound. This day has been going well so far and I'm doing fine currently." Seraphina hoped that she was giving a calm appearance to everyone in the room even though she was a little nervous.

"You look pale. Are you sure you're feeling alright?" Val asked, making it sound as if his sadness was out of concern for her health. Lightly, he lifted his hand as if about to reach towards her, but Max quickly grabbed that arm, looking up at him.

"Val, you should know better. It's traditional for young ladies of the water tribe courts to have pale skin." Max stated. Val turned towards his cousin, shooting him a brief, furious expression. Max let out a hesitant chuckle before lifting his arms and taking a step back.

"Even so, you should make sure you eat well and have plenty of rest." Val insisted, briefly looking between Seraphina and Adri. He took Seraphina's hand and felt her nervous shaking. He was completely calm as he looked at her. Still, there was sadness in his eyes as he looked at her.

"Val, stop being so melancholy." Max stated. Val was silent. His hands tensed with frustration as his expression was calm.

"Please, forgive my cousin. He's only stupid in the worst places." Val insisted, looking towards him with a frown. "And sometimes too crafty for his own good."

"Pardon?" Max asked, tilting his head and smiling like a big dumb dog.

"Forgive my rudeness. I meant it in the best possible way." He told Seraphina, gently letting go of her hands.

This was the exact situation she was hoping that would not happen today. Her cheeks began to a slight pink from embarrassment. She looked away from Val's face to regroup her thoughts.Before she could answer back to Val, Adri spoke up.

"Lord Valiant, my Lady Seraphina has been taking thinks easy today. She has eaten well today and if it were not for this meeting, she would still be outside, helping in the medical garden." Adria said even though he said nothing about how she had been feeling emotionally to the others in the room. It would have been betraying her trust, or it would have felt that way if he had. It was up to Seraphina to tell what her feelings were to the others.

Adri's words helped Seraphina to calm down and the blush began to disappear. Also when Val took her hands into his, she began to feel calmer as well."I was feeling fine for the most part. I was slightly nervous on how today's meeting would go I'll admit. Thank you for your concern about my health Lord Valiant." Seraphina back to Val, looking back at him. She glance over to his cousin, not sure what to make out of some of his comments.

"That is true for most of the water tribes. My skin burns easier than it could tan so that's why I take care to protect my skin. Dealing with sunburns or sun poisonings I do try to avoid since I do tend to be outside a good bit." Seraphina answered back to both Val and Max. Even though Val looked calm at the moment, she noticed that his hands were tense now. She understood with how Max was behaving that Val was getting frustrated.

"Forgiven. Since you two are our guests, please go first in getting something to eat from the refreshment table." Seraphina said with a smile and changing the subject to food. Hopefully that would clear the air, in a matter of speaking. She hoped so before she sat down in a chair close to her father.

Val was silent at Seraphina's reply and gave a nod of thanks to Adri. After she had spoken, Val hesitantly turned away from her, grabbing a drink before walking over towards Atticus. He was between looking at her father and out the window.

"As you wish, my lady." Max smiled with a bow as he moved over to the table, eating a bit. "This is delicious." He smiled. He then made his way back to Adri and Seraphina. "Thank you for your hospitality... You seem quite skilled." he suddenly told Adri. "But what are your skills?"

Lord Atticus watched and listened to the conservation between the younger people in the room. He was glad that Adri had answered when he did so Seraphina had a chance to recoup. There was still a bit of awkwardness in the room though, as they separated ways for a moment. Then once Val and Max had gotten something to eat, Sera looked over at him and asked without asking if he wanted her to to fix him a plate. He nodded yes to her.

"Lord Valiant, how are your children taking the news of your arranged marriage with my dear Seraphina? Has there been any problems with the marriage? I ask as I want to know how well they will treat my daughter when she goes to visit you and after the two of you are married." He said as Seraphina fixed him a plate of food and a drink.

"I am skilled sword man and skilled in several hand-to-hand combat."Adri said back to Max as he doesn't tend to reveal that he is a metal bender. It was his ace that he kept hidden up his sleeve. He already dislikes Max from his attitude from earlier." What is your specialty?"

Seraphina fixed a plate of food for her father. She could tell that he was ready for something to eat. There were several things she knew that Atticus would like and put it on the plate. Then fixed him something to drink as well. Seraphina has heard the questions that her father had ask Val while she had been fixing his plate. I have been wondering about that myself, how his people will treat me when I go over there to the fire Nation.' Seraphina thought as she waited to hear what Val had to say on that matter. There was a side table next to her father's chair and placed his plate of food onto in. finally she sat down in the chair looking towards the window that Val was looking out of.

"They're taking it well. I've heard no complaints openly." Valiant replied. "Most of the distress seems to be from other nations. The alliance makes them a little anxious. Most of the anxiety comes from the earth kingdoms, since I turned down several of their offers. Their movements seem to be... a bit unusual." Val admitted with a slight frown.

"Me? Oh, I'm not that special. More or less, I'm a scholar. Knowledge is my weapon. Besides, books are a lot easier to read then people." Max chuckled.

"I beg to differ." Val suddenly piped in, turning his head towards Max.

"Well, I suppose I do practice fire bending as a hobby." Max smiled.

"He can hardly use a weapon, but I've never seen anybody fire bend or use lightning like him." Val muttered, looking away.

"Oh, you flatter me!" Max chuckled.

Val looked out of the window, then back at Atticus. "Either way, I feel that more familiar the people are with her, the better. Would you mind if she traveled back with us? Of course, any servants and escorts she would like to bring would be more then welcome. After all, I don't want her to feel alone or uncomfortable."

"That is good to hear that they haven't seen to be disagreeable with it. That is unusual, usually we don't have many problems with the earth kingdoms. I have heard rumors about the Earth King Garrett and most of them not the best... That was after Garrett had asked me about an arranged marriage between him and Seraphina a few years back. I said no as we had already signed the peace treaty that included the marriage union between you and Seraphina." Lord Atticus said, pondering what Garrett might be up to...

Seraphina looked at her father at the news that Garrett had asked for her hand in marriage. She shivered slightly at the thought and was appreciate that she had already been promised to Val in marriage. Then again she had heard that Val was cold when it came to feelings. 'Either way, I will be marrying him to keep the peace between our kingdoms. I hope one that one day it more than just that, a marriage of convenience.' Seraphina thought to herself while the men talked.

"I agree with you there and I would not have a problem with that. Adri has been her bodyguard for the past ten years and want to him to continue as her bodyguard where ever she goes." Lord Atticus said as Adri was one of the few people that he trusts with his own life and Seraphina's life with. In his mind, his thoughts were that Val should be keeping more company with Seraphina once they were in his kingdom and she shouldn't have to depend on her servants to keep her company there. he knew he had a kingdom to run but he should have her by his side, to be his helpmate.

" I think it might be wiser that I don't take a lot of servants with me as it would be proper to have some servants from your kingdom to serve me, once I arrive there. It would one way for me to start getting to know my future people better." Seraphina said, hoping that she wasn't putting her foot in her mouth. She thought it would be a good idea at least and would show that she was interested in letting to know her future subjects.

Val said nothing for a moment, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. "Recently, I heard that he declared the avatar his new betrothal." Val stated. "Of course, this has significant political force."

"What's with the new avatar anyway?" Max asked before eating a piece of fruit. "I don't think I've heard anything publicly announced, let alone name and gender. I just know the avatar was supposed to learn firebending from me two years ago and never showed up."

"I'm not sure." Val admitted. "Princess Maria asked me a year ago about it. The avatar hasn't been to the air nomads either."

"The last avatar was a waterbender, so the new one should be an earthbender." Max stated. "It's kind of ironic, considering the state of things."

"Still, Garrett's claim states that he knows who the avatar is and that it's a girl this time. That's more then any of us know." Val stated with a slight nod. He then turned to look at Seraphina. "If you don't want to take servants, that's fine. As long as you'll be fine without them. Just know that I don't want to be away from my children long."

Sooner than Lord Atticus expected, six months had come and gone. It was the day that his baby girl was leaving home to spend some time in her future kingdom before the wedding. Lord Atticus wasn't ready for it as he would like and wished that his late wife, Lady Astrid was here to support him during this. He knew that his daughter would have to leave one day but only seemed that she was a little girl yesterday. He hoped that his son would be able to make it back in time to see Phina off. But first her had one more gift to give to Seraphina before she leaves. He went down to her chambers early that morning to spend a little more one on one time with his dear daughter. When he got there, Seraphina was there, ready to go on her first trip to her future home."I have something for you Seraphina. Close your eyes and hold your hands out." Lord Atticus told her and once she did, he put the necklace on her.

Seraphina had closed her eyes and held out her hands, expecting him to put somethin in her hand but then she felt something hanging around her neck. She open her eyes to find her mother's necklace. "Father, you mean it? Are you sure about giving her necklace to me? "

"Yes, Astrid would want you to have it. Her mother gave it to her before coming down here to our Southern Water Nation for the first time. It looks beautiful on you. I don't know if Murchadh will be able to make it to see you off but know he does wish to see you off. He loves you and will miss you as much I will. Astrid and I both love you so much and I know that Astrid would wanted to be here for this." There was so more more he could say but didn't want to get too emotional right now. Unknown to him the were a few tears slipping away from his eyes already.

"Father I thank you for the necklace and will take good care of it. I love you and Murchadh. I will write to the both of you and you better write me back." She said before hugging her father. Serafina wasn't ready to leave her family but knew it was the right thing to do. Serafina had her two servants ready to go as well and Adri had helped them take her luggage and theirs down to the big sleigh they would ride in down to the dock.

Soon, Adri came up to them and told them that everything was ready to go. They all went outside to get on the sleigh with the others. When they left the castle grounds, the road the lead to the docks were lined with people, seeing off their dear princess. Seraphina waved back to them as they journeyed to the docks. It didn't take long and they were there in front of the ship that Serafina and her small revue of people that were going with her. The unloading and loading things onto the ship went on as Serafina and Lord Atticus shared one last hug before she went over to Lord Valiant and Max.

"Good morning gentlemen, I hope you had a good night sleep last night. Once everything is loaded, we will be ready go." Serafina said to them, wondering if her brother will make it here before they leave....

"We slept well." Max smiled, scratching the back of his head. "I think things are just about set up though. We just need to board and then we're on our way!"

"Good. Let's not waste any time then." Valiant stated. "Perhaps you should say your last goodbyes before parting." Valiant told Seraphina. "It will be some time before you return."
