It seems like a perfectly normal day at Amityville, and it is, there just happen to be a handful of bats lying on the ground outside the ghost dormitories. They look hot. In fact, one of them is holding a small sign that reads:

hlp
pool

Perhaps they would like a pool.

Quote:
Hello! In this class your character(s) will be assembling some pools for overheated bats. There are plenty of dice rolls but no bosses or fighting, so come on down if you're looking for a bit of summer silliness.

If you touch the bats, they will throw tiny, adorable screeching fits and will appear to be even hotter once they are done. Don't touch the bats. More than once. Or maybe twice if you're mean.

Things:
  • This class will last five days at most and will start in approximately 24 hours.
  • You will get 1 RP point for posting an introduction and rolling in at least one round of pool construction, and another for going over 800 words total. Overridden by the end post on page three!
  • You may enter at any time with as many characters as you can handle.
  • I will quote everyone when new rounds begin, so if you don't like quotes, prepare your face.

Frost stared at the bats. Hot bats. As a ghost he wasn't supposed to be bothered by heat. However- a ghost made of ice and snow he couldn't melt but sympathize. Sniffing at them to assure they were not dead, he gave one a tiny nudge to be sure.

The screeching and flailing it did also assured him that the bat was still alive.

Part of him debated eating said bat as fresh food tasted best but this bat belonged to someone. And because of that the ghost was willing to bet he’d get into more than a little bit of trouble, even if all he’d take was a little nibble. Just a taste, no harm done.
He didn’t have a record of eating minipets what are you talking about.

An elderly man, his arms piled high with strange, multicolored strips of plastic and old, crusty bottles of glue, emerges from the nearby dorm, giving the few gathered here the dirtiest looks he can manage before dumping his spoils onto the ground.

"You," he grumbles, pointing at Frost. "Help or get out." He points at the next five students who pass in turn. "All of you."

He shuffles his way around the small group, prodding a student, then a bat, student, bat, student, bat, until all of the students have been sorted. The designated bats sit up, chirping at their new minions.

Quote:
It's time to meet your new bat overlord!

Things:
  • For this round, roll 2d4. The first number corresponds to the bat you will be building a pool for. They are pictured above in their normal, non-overheated states.
    1: Godric
    2: Salazar
    3: Helga
    4: Rowena
  • The second number will be used later, but it basically corresponds to how much your bat likes you at first, with bigger numbers being better.
  • If your student/horseman/hunter wouldn't normally approach a huddle of bats and an old man, Batty is more than happy to grab you without permission and shove you toward a bat.
  • This is going up a little early because I have things to do today, but the next round will start in about 26 1/2 hours, or Sunday, June 29th at noon EDT.
  • I will quote everyone when new rounds begin, so if you don't like quotes, prepare your butts.

Carlos had just been coming out to play. Or find a tree to take a nap in a nice shady spot. Really Carlos had been minding his own businesses when he was suddenly hauled into what looked like work.

"Mew?" his tail swished as he looked at the flying rodent that he was suddenly assigned. He himself didn't notice the heat. Was it hot? He was wearing a scarf today and a jacket. He really hadn't noticed the heat.

This is a unique type of mammal
As its webbed wings mean that it can fly
They can find their way using echoes
For flying in both caves and the sky

Carlos giggled a bit and pulled at the bat's wings spreading them. The bat suddenly threw a little fit spurting and flapping about.

Frost was sort of the type to just do things when needed or requested, especially for his elders. So when yelled at by an older man, his days of being ordered by his elders back home came back and the ghost was quickly doing as commanded. "Uh- yes sir." Ears pinned back, Frost looked at the bats, wondering which one seemed to need help..and wouldn't mind him helping them.

Being a ghost, it wasn't too hard to find Ignatius near his dorm.

... Okay, that was a lie. Considering how often he was wandering around and that all his friends were reapers, it was probably a bit harder than it would be for the average ghost...

Ignatius was just leaving his dorm for a run, though, when he passed by a group of bats that looked rather hot. There was a tilt of his head--plasma was rather hot, after all, so heat didn't bother Ignatius a damn bit--as he moved a bit closer to the bats. Did that sign say "hlp pool"?

Snickering, Ignatius went closer and attempted to prod a bat in the side, the grin on his face only widening as the bat began to fuss at him loudly, flailing and screeching in a way that could only be described as adorable. When the bat was so tiny and ridiculous, it was rather hard to take it seriously! It became even harder to take the bat seriously when it slumped after the screeching fit, only hotter than it had been in the first place.

So he poked it again.

That put him in a convenient position to have a bat all but shoved at him, which was fine -- Ignatius seemed to be perfectly content in making the bat act adorably unhappy. This friendship was (not) getting off to such a great start at all...

=================

"What?"

She was just walking, she didn't want to do anything with bats. Knowing her luck recently, this would turn into some kind of trap that would lead her into some kind of mess involving the Hunters and the Horsemen or these were dream bats and she just wasn't in the mood.

Still, the bats seemed innocuous enough, if not just a little frustrated. Slumping her shoulders in defeat, Serafina neared the bat that was getting shoved in her direction and patted it on its head in a friendly matter. "Hello dear! -- Oh. Uh. You didn't like that did you." The screeching that followed the pat on the head made Serafina bite down on her lip behind her mask, attempting not to laugh at the admittedly comical display the poor little bat was making of itself.

All that flailing seemed to only work up a sweat and make the bat even hotter.

"Oh, you poor dear," whispered Serafina, laughing quietly. "Okay, I'll stop poking you then."

What was she supposed to do for this bat though, exactly, if she couldn't just make it happier?

Once he has gathered a few more passing victims, Batty returns to his strange pile of supplies, choosing groups of three items (siding, adhesive, plastic pool base) seemingly at random and handing them off to each student. His heart—or pacemaker, as the case may be—is in the right place, the problem with his strategy is that each of his bats only likes one particular type of siding. You'd think they would be grateful for anything in this heat, but they seem to be fairly spoiled for bats. If you build a pool that has the wrong kind of siding, they probably won't swim in it. Luckily, the bats aren't shy about chirping their displeasure at the things they don't like, so it is very easy to tell when they are not happy with a student's choices.

"Well? Get going," Batty says, backing up to stand near the rest of his supplies.

Quote:
By noon EDT, I totally meant 7pm. /cough

Things:
  • Roll 2d4 for this round.
  • The first die corresponds to the decorations on the strip of pool siding Batty has given your character.
1: yellow and white splotches on pink (Helga's favorite)
2: red with black polka dots (Godric's favorite)
3: blue and purple squiggles on white (Rowena's favorite)
4: light green with dark green stripes (Salazar's favorite)

  • The second signifies the strength of the waterproof superglue Batty has also handed you.
1: This glue is weak and prone to losing its stickiness. It's not super at all!
2: This glue has been opened and is almost completely dried out.
3: This glue is passable. Nothing special, but not horrible either.
    4: THE EMPEROR OF GLUES.

  • Each character has also received a round pool base. They are all identical pieces of thick, black plastic.
  • After your initial 2d4 roll, you may continue rolling 1d4 per post until you get your bat's favorite pool siding. If you approach him with your siding, Batty will take it from you and throw you another piece at random. Alternately, you may trade siding with another character, just make sure to label it clearly if you do. You are also free to use the "wrong" siding to build your pool. Show those spoiled bats who's boss.
  • Unfortunately, there is no more glue and you realize its value or lack thereof too late to swap it. (a.k.a. don't reroll for glue)
  • Once you are happy with your materials, you can RP your character assembling their pool. They go like this, but you can assemble them any way you like:

  • The next round will start in about 26 hours, or Monday, June 30th at 8pm EDT.
  • I will quote everyone when new rounds begin, so if you don't like quotes, prepare your nostrils.

It was very likely the fact that he was wet from having been swimming that made the strange old man reach out and grab him, hauling him towards the heat distressed bats and instructing him to help, pointing towards one of the bats, a dark reddish brown one who didn’t seem –repulsed- exactly, but didn’t look ecstatic with him either.

“Pools?” he blinked. “Pools for bats?” He shook his head confused.

Sure enough it looked like the next thing that was in order was that supplies were being given out.

The little brown bat was –not- impressed with the patterned strips he grabbed for the pool. It made irritable sounds about the colors and he sighed and set it aside after two attempts to present the colors to the bat, only to have it swatted away.
He narrowed his eyes at the bat, which scowled at him with a small furry yet determined face before he rolled his eyes, sighed and looked at what he’d grabbed for glue.

The glue, was awful, really awful, dried up and nearly useless. He groaned softly He’d have to do his best using it as a paste and pray that it held together for the fussy little creature.

He turned towards the other student who was working with the bat.

“I…don’t suppose your glue is any better?” He asked desperately.

What exactly was all this stuff Ignatius was being handed?

He didn't recognize the exact format of what a pool was, considering that lightning elementals didn't exactly enjoy a good soak in the water. It was after a few moments that he realized these were probably materials for that pool the bats had wanted so badly. "hlp pool" and all.

"You want a pool, eh?" Ignatius turned to the bat with a grin on his face. Carefully, he lifted some of the pool siding and unceremoniously prodded Salazar the Unhappy Bat with it. While it was displeased with being poked and flailed at him quite angrily, when it calmed, it seemed rather pleased with his choice, chirping as it placed its own wing against the siding.

"Well, glad you like it," offered Ignatius, laughing and prodding the poor bat with the siding for a second time. While it flailed and yelled at him again, he went about trying to put the siding against the sides of the pool. The glue was, unfortunately, flimsy at best, and nothing seemed to be sticking together very well. To Ignatius, that only meant he needed to slam the siding on there harder.

That wasn't exactly super effective.

=================

"Alright, so, let's work together on your pool!"

The old man had given her some materials to work with, including the same terrible glue he had given to a few other students already. Serafina groused at that, but decided she would have to work with what she had been given. She always had to otherwise, after all. As a ghost born with nothing, she had learned to improvise.

However, her bat companion was having none of it.

"What's wrong with it? It looks decent to me..."

It screeched at her when she attempted to put the siding on the pool, which made her sigh. "Okay, okay, let me see if the old man will give me some other siding..."

Miasma was near the ghost dormitories, though definitely not for the purpose of helping hose down overheated bats, and SURELY not because she was looking for a petite ghost girl who seemed to have a thing for tea. But there she was, eyeing the poor dying bats and wondered what cruel unfortunate soul had left them here to die. At least, she thought they were dying, until she noticed the sign one of them held, but it didn't really help. What the heck was "hlp"? And surely bats having pools was definitely ab-

She looked up as some elderly boil appeared, not appreciating the look he was giving several of them. She was just about to leave when she was suddenly grabbed, and a bat was shoved in her face.
"Hey!"
How rude.

A dark brown bat graced her presence. A dark brown bat that didn't like her. It tried to take a chunk out of her finger, and her retaliation was to throw the damn thing as far as she could. Too bad it wasn't very far.
That, and it had wings.

-----------------------------

Mayaa saw cute tiny furry creatures. WITH WINGS.
She was very happy.

She ended up picking a similar dark brown bat, and cuddled him.
"You are so CUTE!"

At some point, Mia managed to get her unruly bat under control, and grumbled irritably when she was handed supplies for the supposed mini pool bath. Why did she have to help this ungrateful thing?

The siding she received was a hideous yellow and white with (ew) pink. Ugh, how horrid. Even the bat didn't seem to like it, but WHATEVER. The damn thing should be grateful she was even helping it. Seriously, she'd rather just let it melt in the heat, and would have, if it weren't for that tiny little voice that said it would be rather cruel. Or perhaps that was just Psy.

Cruel or not though, she didn't appreciate being grumped at, especially when she was doing this out of the kindness of her own heart.
"Just shut the jack up and deal with it." she hissed, sticking the siding on rather defiantly with the glue.
Eh, it'd hold.

--------------------

Mayaa was all too eager to help her new-found friend, and accepted the supplies with much enthusiasm.
"Ok, Mr. Bat, let's build you a super duper awesome pool!"

The siding she received was a neat pink with white and yellow polkadots (or were those splotches), and she was about to stick it on when her bat chirped unhappily.
"Oh! Oh, you don't like this do you, Mr. Bat? That's ok, I'll get you a new one!"

Taking her siding, Mayaa bounced over to Batty, and held it up.
"Please sir, may I exchange this for another one?"
She was tossed another one at random and inspected it.
"What do you think, Mr. Bat?"

It was a pretty shades of green with stripes, but alas, Mr Bat didn't like it very much.

Exchanging the siding again, she hoped this would be the right one.
Red and black polka dots!
The bat seemed to chirp happily this time, and Mayaa beamed. Hooray!

She sat back down with her supplies, and stuck the siding on with the glue, making a slight mess as she got some in her feathers also.
"All done!!"

"Sir? Can I have different siding? Your bat doesn't seem to like this siding very much..."

Serafina was handed another siding, but she frowned. It looked exactly the same as the siding she had last time!

"Sir, this siding really isn't any different, I don't think Rowena's going to like it any better..."
