Killing monsters in the Haunted House wasn't just Evan's job, it was his mission in life. He believed--vehemently, rabidly--that the monsters needed to die, and he took great joy in making them hurt before they dissipated. At times like these--after a traumatic mission, as stress relief, to make himself feel a little less like a failure--he needed it like a drug. He volunteered for every shift in the Haunted House he could and damn the consequences. He stalked through empty rooms looking for likely prey, his weapon already summoned.

Quote:
Rolling a 4: NO HEALING IS ALLOWED IN BATTLE. Someone is whispering to you about something, but you can't place out what, it is hard to focus. Everything distracts you, even the tiniest flash of light or flicker of movement.

Same thing, different day, Hel was just looking to be entertained in the thrall of battle or in the form of intriguing conversation with a hunter. Either or was an acceptable outcome. Today would certainly mark that there would be no conversing though.

The reaper stepped through the door to a room, and on the other side she immediately picked up the intense aura a hunter was putting off, stalking like a mad dog with his weapon summoned. Her eyes narrowed as her lips curled up, a hand reached out, her spear appearing in her hand. "OI!" She called out to the hunter, raising her spear and pointing it at him.

"Are you looking to battle?"

Evan stopped at the sound of an unknown voice, his resting scowl darkening as he noticed that it had been one of those ******** freaks that had called for him. It asked him a question that it couldn't have had any idea was rhetorical; Evan was always ready to battle. He noticed the spear that materialized in the monster's hand and answered with a smile that was more of a threat than a friendly invitation to spar.

The smile told Hel all she needed. Answering with one of her own, the reaper charged him, pulling her weapon back. Once she was close enough, and swung it out at him in an arc, clipping the hunter.

Evan tried to move out of the way of the oncoming monster, but wasn't quite quick enough. Still, its approach brought it within range of Evan's reach and he lashed out at the arm holding the spear. He struck a solid blow and smiled as Gir growled encouragingly. They wanted more.

Hel's eyes narrowed a bit as the hunter struck back. It was a good hit. Her lips curled up in a slight smirk. Good. She'd been sorely missing a good battle. Talking was fun and all, but at the end of the day, fighting was always more fun.

After Evan struck, Hel quickly followed up with a parry since he was open. She brought her weapon up in a quick but hard arc. She found herself eagerly awaiting his next move.

The hard strike pulled a surprised grunt from Evan, the first sound he'd made since encountering the monster.

Look at it smiling at you, like this is some kind of game.

This wasn't a game. Not to him. Eradicating the monsters was his primary reason for waking up every morning. It was work and it was only play in that he really, really enjoyed his job.

Put it out of my misery.

With a snarl, Evan lunged teeth first. He wanted desperately to be able to take the monster's through between their teeth and pull, but he would settle for whatever he could get.

Hel wasn't sure if she had ever crossed paths with a hunter this...intense before. Most, if not all up until this point, even if it had started off as a battle, ended up conversing at some point. Most she fought did not seem to have a driving urge to...get rid of like this one before her. Hrm.

The reaper's eyes widened briefly before narrowing, and she threw up her weapon in both hands to attempt to keep the hunter back a bit. The impact pushed her back and rattled her frame, and she grit her teeth a bit as she stared at him. "What?" She rasped. "Are you trying to bite me?" She attempted to push him back with her weapon. "Are you an animal?"

Gir howled in the back of their mind as the monster tried to push them back, on the defensive now. Evan slashed at the monster with the sharp teeth at the front of the blade, seeking to drive it back and keep it off balance. "Yes," he growled, "we are."

Definitely never fought a hunter with this kind of intensity before. Even when her Patrol Group got ambushed by other hunters to kidnap Mitsu, the intensity of the fight had never been like this. Hel was fascinated. There was a story behind here, and she was damn curious now, even as the Hunter was doing a more than great job of pushing her back.

She gave a soft chuckle. "I hope you are referring to your friend when you say we." She returned, focusing on keeping that ferocious blade where it was at. This was a true power struggle if she'd ever been in one.

Evan wasn't going to dignify that ******** freak with a response. He kept pushing at the monster's weapon, trying to break through its defenses. The charge built without him realizing it and solid fragments of Fear exploded from his weapon's teeth.

It hit both of them, but Evan hadn't been prepared for it. He felt his shield break, felt his own weapon's attack shred the fabric of his jacket and slice into the vulnerable flesh of his arms, felt the blood run down his skin. He staggered back, suddenly exhausted and feeling every injury the Fear shield had protected him from.

Gir whined and yelped and whimpered, trying to fix the damage but at a loss how to. /gogogogogo, time to go, I wanna go home,/ he whimpered.

You really gonna give up now?

Listening to his weapon, his partner, would have been the smart thing to do. Instead, he righted himself, breathing hard and struggling to keep his balance. He held his weapon in front of him, glaring at the monster over the teeth. Blood dripped from his fingers where it trickled down his arms, making the grip of the sword slick and hard to hold onto. He tightened his grip.

The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as something seemed to be building up within the hunter. Her eyes darted from his face to his weapon, and when the FEAR exploded, the reaper immediately backed out of the way. She landed on her feet, and immediately raised her weapon, pointing it towards the hunter in the aftermath of that attack, only to see--

She blinked, her expression falling. Jack damn. That attack, which was no doubt for her, had back fired on him instead...and ******** him up. She eyed the blood running down him and dripping onto the floor, and she admired his resolve, she really did...but murdering a Hunter was not on her list of things to accomplish. Not one bit. No. Never.

She lowered her weapon, and her brows furrowed.

"Go on with you." She said, her voice stern. "Go back to your base. You can not fight me anymore."

She could kill him. She knew she could.

<******** you," Evan ground out. He didn't need mercy from one of them. He sure as hell wouldn't have shown any to it.

"No, <******** you, guy!" Hel snarled back, lowering her spear completely and pointing a finger at him. "Get out of here!" She made a wild sweeping gesture. "I would gain nothing by running you through with my spear! Absolutely ******** nothing! So get your weak a** out of my sight!"

"Bullshit," he growled. "One less Hunter running around trying to kill you? You have everything to gain." Gir whined and begged him to shut up, to do as the ghoul said and tuck tail and run while they had the chance because they could tear s**t up any day, but they could only die the once.

Evan dismissed Gir, leaving himself wide open. The part of him that knew Gir was right was overruled by the part that had been driven to join Deus in the first place. Dying was always a risk. He was okay with that. "You really gonna give up now?"
