[Mentor 1v1] The Battle Of Knit And Purl (Titus / Hel)

Well, it was time. In a way, Hel couldn't believe they'd already reached this point. It wasn't like it happened quickly, that wasn't what had her in disbelief. A good chuck of time had passed since she took Titus under her wing, and she couldn't believe they were at the end already, because...there was still so much to do with Titus. So she had decided that even after their mentorship was over officially, she'd continue to give aid and guidance to the demon. Yes. Until then though, it was time to officially finish it.

The reaper sent the demon a message. To meet her in the gym...but to bring all his knitting supplies, because of reasons. Thus Hel stood, her fists rested on her hips as she waited for Titus to show.

Titus supposed they would finally be wrapping up his mentorship as he gathered the items Hel had requested he bring. He wasn't sure how the knitting was going to tie into anything but after struggling for days he had finally gotten the hang of it. A small part of him had actually enjoyed it but he would never admit it. Over all he was pleased with how he had progressed with it and could now manage simple patterns without having to reference pictures or undo large portions that he had made.

With the items in hand Titus had headed for his door when he thought of something else. Hel had gone out of her way to help him through this in her own special abusive way. He might not have always shone it but he supposed he was grateful. Not many would have bothered, at least not with him. He could count the number of friends he had on one hand and it didn't even use up all of his fingers. It was because of that, that Titus grabbed one more thing before he left, stuffing the items carefully in his pocket before heading to the gym.

When he arrived he found Hel waiting for him and he lifted the bag at his side to show that he had the requested items. "So what am I supposed to do with this?"

Hel grinned as Titus appeared, and her grin widened as he showed her the bag, and then asked what he was supposed to do with it. There was only a small pause before Hel replied: "Now you will teach me how to knit!" It was brilliant, she thought. She couldn't be bothered going through all the hassle Titus had to learn, so by making him learn to teach her? Brilliant. She was so clever. Kukuku.

She also raised a finger to wag it at him. "Also, no bitching! You are better off getting started, because you will not cease being my mentee until I learn!"

"I have to what?" He began to open his mouth to b***h just as Hel had predicted and cut him off before he even had a chance to start. Closing his mouth, his lips drew into a tight line before he huffed and set the bag down. "Fine."

How the hell was he supposed to learn anything from this?

He collected the needed items to get started, needles and yarn in hand but it seemed Hel had already lost interest. "Oi!" He decided to use the word she was so fond of. "Over here, Kidget."

This activity wasn't off to a good start or Hel was trying to give him a hard time. Either way he wasn't very engaging he was mostly hoping she was paying attention. Which she wasn't.

"Come on, you can at least make an attempt in the beginning we just got started." He had only just started setting up the needle to show her and had to undo it all again to start over. This was going to take a while.

Finally the demon managed to snag a few seconds of Hel's attention to show her how to set up the needles to start. He had managed to learn a few of the different stitches but decided it would be best to focus on a simple knit pattern at first. If Hel managed to focus maybe they would move on to something else.

Hel's attention was wavering again but Titus managed to keep her focused enough to get through at least one row of weaving the yarn over the needles. Of course at this stage it didn't look like anything and was far from impressive. Getting something of any length took a bit of time and he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to keep her attention that long.

So far so good. Hel was taking well to the information on the basic stitching pattern so Titus decided to throw in the knowledge he had learned about warp knitting. He probably never would have learned if Riyo hadn't dragged him to the library. Good on you Riyo.

It was to Titus' great surprise that Hel took the information he had about warp knitting and absorbed it, focusing enough to let him show her exactly how it was done. He got through a few rows showing how the pattern worked, actually getting into the teaching aspect of it all.

He knew it would happen eventually but as he continued to lead Hel through the process they missed a loop and had to unravel a bit of what they had gotten done in order to fix it. It left Hel frustrated and losing focus again and the demon all but had to entertain her to keep her on point.

"Come on, stop acting like a scareling."

With a little bit of effort, okay a lot of effort, Titus managed to get Hel caught up to where they had been and doing rather well with the warp stitching. The next thing he had in mind was the purl stitch and he took the needles from her in order to show her the process before handing it back to watch her try.

"Try not to Jack it up."

Hel was staying focused but Titus could feel his own attention waning. She was absorbing but when he had her go back and start over from the basic stitch to see if she remembered correctly there was a mess on his hands. The ghoul was trying but it completely baffled Titus on how hard she was making this.

"Doesn't being a ghoul make you predisposed to knowing this stuff. Like a natural ability of something?"

"No, not like...uuuhhhh." Titus grumbled as Hel got ahead of herself taking the needles from her and trying to figure out what chaos she had weaved. Literally. As he spent his time doing that she spent her time doing other things like picking at her nails or fiddling with her ears.

"Oi! Focus, Kidget."

The demon managed to get her attention again but it was only for a brief second. Just long enough to show her what went wrong but not long enough to actually get her to fix it. He took in a deep breath, his drive from this nearly gone. The demon was pretty sure at this point he could not be a teacher, he didn't have the temperament.

They were making progress again but Titus wasn't sure how much longer he wanted to keep this up. Surely she got the gist of it by now right? Right? Knitting was okay but it wasn't his preferred activity so his own tolerance was nearly at its end.
