A long line of pawprints flowed along the soft golden sand, trailing in the wake of an orange and chocolate fox who loped along at the margin of sea and land. Beside him, the beach was deserted: no predators to run from, nor prey to run after, nor friends to race against: this, then, had to simply be running for the sake of running, exertion as its own reward.
Some might find the heat from the sun high overhead--now descending slowly from its apex toward the sea--too harsh for such activity, but obviously not this fox. He laughed as he put on speed, aiming for a well-weathered boulder that sat on the water's edge, apparently the finish line in his solitary race.

Candi was afraid, alarmed, excited, and in awe. The golden sand under her paws left a strange and warm sensation, pooling around small paws as she shifted them side to side. Some stuck to the inside of her paw, clutching tightly as she tried to shake off the sand, only to have more find their way back onto tiny paw pads. The smell of the ocean invaded her nose, leaving her slightly bewildered at the strange scent that she had never associated water with, until now.
The beach was new to her, and left her feeling a mixture of emotions she wasn't quite able to get a handle of. The wave left a fear within her stomach when they drew to close to her paws, but the scent excited the small vixen. The sound of the water lapping against sand kept her quiet, for the moment. This place was beautiful. How had she never visited before?
Laughter.
Her head whipped to the side, eyes flicking about frantically before locating the male who had emitted such a sound. Her tail twitched faintly, flicking against her sides as one paw raised, body tensing as she considered whether or not to approach. Finally, the paw settled down and she lunged forward, heading towards the male with a chipper smile.
"Hello!" She called, barely aware that the wind carried her voice away from the male.

Shu skidded to an ungraceful stop past the invisible finish line, nearly falling face-first into the sand, before he managed to grab a hold of himself. He shook the sand off of himself as best he could, but, based on his grin, not seeming to mind how much was left behind.
"Hi there!" he called out when he spotted the newcomer to the beach. He could see her mouth forming words, but couldn't quite make out what she was saying.
He loped over to her, a pace much more relaxed than his frantic race against himself. "Hi," he repeated, once he was within speaking, rather than shouting, distance. "I'm Shu, who're you?"
