This is the office of Professor Jason Hill. As he does not actually live in the castle and instead lives in Hogsmeade, his office hours are limited. The office itself has several plants that Jason takes care of regularly, and has several books on potions and herbology on his shelves. The place otherwise doesn't have that many personal touches in it. The oak desk and chairs in his office show that he does use the space, and it has several books on top to assist on grading assignments turned in.

Jason has the following office hours:
8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Exceptions:
Wednesday 1:50 PM to 2:50 PM (Herbology II)
Thursday 8:00 AM to 8:50 AM (Herbology III)
Friday 1:50 PM to 2:50 PM (Herbology I)

All assignments should be turned in to this location and should follow this format:

Selina walked into Professor Hill's office. Though the door was open, she was unsure if the saturnine professor was even present. As it was she was only here between classes to hand in her assignment, and not, thankfully, to serve out a detention. For the moment, she was in Professor Hill's good graces, she hoped, and wished to remain so.

                                                    Quote:

Assignment: Tools for Herbology and Their Uses

                                                    Dragon Dung
Dragon dung is the primary component of a compost as listed below, however it may be used in its pure form as a fertilizer. In general this material provides plants with needed nutrients, particularly the macronutrients Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium.

The secondary function of fertilizer is to aid in water retention and aeration of the soil, which is important to the overall health of the plant.

                                                    Dragon Dung Compost
This is a superb fertilizing agent used by Herbologists, of which Dragon Dung, obviously is a primary component. Compost is made with wetted organic matter, leaves and food waste, and allowed to decompose to produce humus. In addition to being a fertilizer, it is useful as a soil conditioner and a natural pesticide. All aid in the plant’s growth and survival.

                                                    Dragon-hide Gloves
Dragon-hide gloves are essential equipment when handling plants, as they are proof against many natural secretions, particularly certain saps which can be extremely poisonous or acidic in nature.

                                                    Earmuffs
Although we won’t likely be caring for them this year, it is the Mandrake, also known as the Mandragora, for which we will need earmuffs. Their screams can be lethal under certain circumstances. Obviously earmuffs are essential protection if one wishes to take care of them.

                                                    Mooncalf Dung
Mooncalf dung can only be harvested when the Mooncalf emerges from its burrow during the full moon. If collected before the sun rises, it will make any magical plant it is spread on grow fast and strong. Of note is that the Sopophorous Plant, whose seed pods are used in several potions, grow particularly well when fertilized with Mooncalf Dung.

A short cough cleared his throat as he shuffled awkward feet beneath him; directly in front of him, the door of Professor Hill's office was closed, and who knew what the grim professor was doing behind that door. Why was here, anyway? Why had he been singled out? He hadn't done anything particularly noticeable, had he? He hadn't done anything wrong? So why did he suddenly feel so guilty? The pit of his stomach sank like a shipwreck—he was drowning—or he just forgot to breathe! Either way, bloody hell, Tristan needed to calm himself. He wasn't in trouble, he couldn't be.... What if he knows? The thought dawned on him moments before a closed fist fell on the wooden door, his first knock hung in the silence as he arm froze, suspended, before he realized how ridiculous it must be to only knock once then quickly add on a few more loud knocks. As soon as he heard something that resembling a 'come in,' scarred fingers twisted the door knob and he slithered through the cracked doorway. He made sure not to close the door behind him all the way, just in case he needs a fast escape. Not that he suspects anything will actually happen, but dammit, if he's pissed off, he doesn't want to spend any extra time fumbling with the door handle before bolting out of the room as fast as bloody possible. "...You wanted to see me, professor?"

Jason looked up from when the young pup entered the room. He was a young pup too, Jason could smell it on him. The alpha in him reared its ugly head and Jason had to tamp it down hard. Now was not the time to go all alpha on the pup. Jason stood quietly and walked around the desk he usually sat behind, ready for well, anything. He didn't know what to expect from this, but he figured aggression was one of the outcomes. "You're a werewolf. I wasn't certain when you first entered the castle, but the fact you were the one that smelled the strongest of it when you were sorted, coupled with being the only one in class to also smell of it, and that means only one thing. Two, if you were dense enough to somehow duplicate the the scent. How long?"

Jason wasn't going to sugarcoat the truth. No real reason to. He was certain, as certain as he ever was, considering that his nose had never lied to him before. He just usually had class enough to not say anything. However, a werewolf that was not managing their condition was a threat to his pack. He didn't know if Tristan was managing it, or allowing the beast to rule. Either way, he needed to learn to, otherwise he was a danger to everyone.

Tristan shuffled under the scrutinizing gaze of Professor Hill, he shifted his weight from one foot to the next, balancing between the tip of his toes and the ball of his heels. He never felt smaller. He bowed his head for that split second of silence before the professor spoke up, then it was all hellfire and brimstone threatening to break free from the prison bars of white ivories. ”I—“ Tristan almost broke, but managed to chomp down on his tongue and keep his head low, somehow kept to silence to hear out the older werewolf in full, and found himself glaring at the floor all the while. How long did he know? How many of them know? Do they all know? His father will be so... Blinking rapidly, his attention sort of drifted; what would his father say? Would he be disappointed? The thoughts were difficult to shake, but Hill's expectant gaze was quick to snap him out of that reverie, then it was just a matter of moment's to recollect everything he'd been asked. ”I am....” He agreed. No sense in lying now. ”Three years,... and no.. dunno who did it,” he admitted, swallowing a heavy gulp. ”My da' brews my potions.. I have a stock here... Da' told me about the forest... I....” His glare hardened, burning an intent hole into the ground. ”Do all of the professors know? .....Are there others?” Rising to meet the gaze of an alpha wolf, he hoped to gauge and judge truth from lies; this was something he had to know. He's never met one before, never ran with one. Bloody hell, that was a tempting thought. But somehow, he had his suspicions that Hill wasn't the most social of wolves. Well fine, whatever, Tristan's interests aren't in a running mate; he just needs answers.

No one would have noticed that this particular second year had all but disappeared. They were a few weeks into school, and already his grades were suffering for being absent from classes. He hardly slithered into the common room with the rest of his housemates nowadays, not interested in running into the Head of House or, worse, his cousins. He doubted they would say something to him, being as busy as they had been in their own lives, but it was still a factor that Ralph took into consideration. Besides, Effy really knew how to twist Ralph's ear -- hard.

The first night back had been a nightmare for Ralph. He had gone through the motions, absent from his mind and body. A low-pitched hum had taken the place of human thought, and Ralph stared blankly at a Slytherin girl across the table from him for hours. And continued to do so even when she got up and left, weirded out by her housemate's actions.

No one bothered him. No one asked about him. No one wondered if he was alright.

And Ralph, somehow, was okay with this. It wasn't ideal, no, but his heart's turmoil finally settled and everything finally seemed crystal clear. His thoughts and actions were now reserved and calculated, where they had been childish and uncoordinated. Ralph constantly looked back to who he had been, reviewing himself and stripping away yet another section of his personality that he despised.

                                  But it wasn't enough.

He still missed his family, deep down inside his heart. It ached for the familiarity of love that came with a bond like that. Family was everything. That's what Ralph had always thought. It turned out that Tristan and Savannah had different mindsets. They hadn't sought him out after the first day on the train.

That stung. It felt like a hot blade pierced his heart at the thought, and it only made the child angrier and angrier, until he vomited from the emotion. Then he would feel sad and lonely, then angry again. It was a vicious cycle that the boy had little idea how to control. So he hid.

Every night, the second year would sneak around, finding a comfortable hole to hide in and sleep. He had learned the search patterns of the professors and prefects, found rooms and hallways that he was sure never existed, and learned how to use the alohomora charm better than the Charms professor. He was friends with darkness now, and was not afraid to hide in the shadows. When the day came, he was gone, mostly out to the grounds where he was sure that no one would come looking for him. There was so much expanse of land that it would have been hard to track the kid down. Ralph figured this, and used it to his advantage.

Ralph opened his eyes. The crust of sleep made him blink a few times and he wiped his eyes to clear it away. His face was damp, but he had forgotten why. Maybe he had had a nightmare? There was a desk above him and he remembered where he was. He crawled out from under the desk and yawned. The room was dark, which was probably why he had broken into it in the first place. Along the walls, potted plants were lined up, displaying their unique qualities and shapes -- all different and clearly very special. On another wall, stood a disheveled bookcase with books about exotic plants, uses and remedies, potions for poisons and cures, and more that Ralph cared little to read.

He wondered whose office this was and why it didn't have a window. The desk he had slept under had a few books lying on top, opened up to specific pages. One was a book on grades, with every student's name written down in scratchy font. The writing was nearly illegible, with some dirt stains mucking up some of the names. Another was open underneath it to a specific item called Aconite, and was pictured with a lovely blue flower that Ralph had seen a few times in his adventures at home. The book of grades hid the description of the plant and, not wanting to be discovered, Ralph decided it best to leave everything as he found it.

One last look around and Ralph sighed. Another day and still his cousins hadn't tried to look for him. He honestly wondered what he was trying to prove or what he was trying to accomplish acting this way. Even he knew, at some deeper level, that this was attention-seeking behavior. Still, he couldn't stop now. This was a pretty deep hole he had dug himself into and he was resolved to keep going further.

Ralph straightened out his shirt and hair. It was early, he could tell because there was no noise or shuffle of students outside the door. His sleeping schedule had adapted to get him off to a good, head-start, and Ralph wasn't going to squander his chances.

He made his way to the door with another yawn and reached for the door handle. The soft jingle of keys made him freeze in place. He felt the fingers of fear grip his heart as the sounds approached. Maybe they'll keep going... he tried to reason with himself to calm his nerves, but the sound of metal on metal grew louder and louder, rising to match the thundering of the muscle in his chest.

What would he do if the person stopped in front of the room he was in? Ralph looked around wildly, like an animal caught in a trap. There was literally nowhere the boy could hide. No windows, no closets, nothing. Even the bookshelf wasn't wide enough for him to hide beside. So, Ralph resolved himself to face whoever walked in through that door. There was no other choice at this point. He took a step back, reached into his robe pocket, and gripped his wand tightly. This was not the time nor the place to use magic, but it gave him a sense of comfort to grip the wood in his small hand.

The sounds stopped in front of the door, as the second year had feared, and he felt the cold rush over him in anticipation. He was so going to be busted. Then a little voice inside him seemed to cheer, at least they might kick you out of Hogwarts! Where he had once loved this school, Ralph had learned to hate it. The way it twisted people... it made perfectly good students suddenly bad. Thoughts of his wandered to the Effy he once knew to the Savannah that now flirted with every guy she ran into, or Trist, who would have been fine if he hadn't come here. Tristan had become a monster by attending Hogwarts.

What was Ralph's horrible fate? The anger rushed over him like a river current and he pulled out his wand, aiming it at the door. His jaw was clenched and he felt so much rage, confusion, turmoil, and helplessness over his situation, that he worried he was gripping his wand too hard for its own good.

A key slipped into the lock with slight difficulty, and Ralph could hear the key bearer curse softly when it had protested to fit. They tried again and the faint click of the door unlocking sent Ralph's adrenaline through the roof. What if it was a professor? Was he really going to jinx a professor?

Ralph held his breath, not sure what he was going to do when that door opened and being scared as all hell. He shook, with rage and terror, at his situation. He was on the edge and ready to do anything. Suddenly, all he could hear was the pounding of his heart in his ears: thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump.

                                  The doorknob rattled and turned.

Jason paused outside of his office, smelling something off about what was inside. No, it wasn't vampiric, he'd had enough of bloody bats to last a lifetime, and he didn't have Moreau or Terran's old office so the smell wouldn't have lingered. He knew that Sylvana hadn't been around the castle either, and she preferred to stick around the greenhouse or the whomping willow when she was. Which left another, rather more insidious culprit. The common student.

He didn't have to consider the fact that no matter what, he was accosted on all sides by students year-round, whether down in his shop in Hogsmeade being invaded by incompetent students trying to get him to save some plant they had killed themselves, or in the halls and greenhouse when he taught and dealt with them. Never before had he wished for something as devastating as a flu epidemic to strike the school just to get away from students, but he'd been teaching now for the past six years, and he was wholly convinced that had he taught any sooner he would have committed murder on such a scale it would have made Voldemort blanch by now.

Deciding to dismiss the idea from his mind about errant students possibly laying a trap in his office (and should he find out the student responsible if that were the case, said student would regret it fully), he opened the door and narrowed his eyes. Second year, blond hair. Hastings, if he remembered correctly. The student that had decided to go mute his first class while Jason himself had decided that he was being an utter pain as he had decided to clam up the moment that some girl had answered and interrupted the boy before Jason could even call upon him.

He closed the door with an audible click, his eyes never leaving the boy as he stood there, obviously terrified if his smell could be any indication. The boy seemed frozen in place, one hand holding his wand while the boy stared at him. Lovely, the students were going to try and hex him now, were they? He walked purposefully forward, his eyes locked onto the boy's amber as he stared him down. When he felt the point of the wand against his sternum, he sneered.
"If you are actually going to use your wand, then do it. You will not get another chance, though you will fully regret your actions should any spell actually hit. If not, cease your useless theatrics and put that bloody thing away. Just what are you doing in my office?"

The werewolf had never been a patient man with people. That was one of the reasons he preferred the company of plants to actual individuals. As such, he quite honestly thought that this whole event was rather ludicrous, and he had no use for a boy that seemed to get it into his head that he should hex Jason as soon as he walked into his domain. Either the boy was extremely skilled, highly unlikely, or he was extremely suicidal. Jason hadn't decided which yet.

Perhaps it was the fact that the second year had just woken up and his brain wasn't fully working that Ralph had somehow missed the signs of whose office, exactly, this was. The plants should have made it obvious, if not the distant smell of dirt, wet dog, and a hint of aftershave. Still, when Professor Hill walked through that door, Ralph's blood turned to ice.

If there was one professor that made the boy uneasy, it was this one. Hill was an unpleasant fellow, as cuddly as thistles and as morose as they came. His life was all but a mystery to the Hogwarts students who were unfortunate enough to have him, but it made for some interesting speculations. There were many rumors surrounding Hill: one was that he murdered his students and buried them under the floorboards of his shop in Hogsmeade, another was that he was a plant himself and that was why he hated people, and yet still there was more. He was a werewolf who preyed on the weak and ate babies, or incapable of human emotions because he killed his own mother. Ralph realized that many of these rumors were probably very wrong and misinformed, but it didn't stop all these possibilities from running through his mind.

His hands were clammy with sweat as Jason closed the door behind him, those intense dark eyes never leaving Ralph's. He tried not to look scared, but he was sure that he was shaking a little. Especially as Hill approached Ralph. His heart rate skyrocketed through the roof and everything in his body screamed for him to run, to back away, to hide again.

But the fear held him there until Professor Hill's chest touched the end of Ralph's wand. The boy looked up at the professor -- he really had to look up -- and truly felt how small he was, "If you are actually going to use your wand, then do it. You will not get another chance, though you will fully regret your actions should any spell actually hit. If not, cease your useless theatrics and put that bloody thing away. Just what are you doing in my office?" The words were a snarl coming out of an animal, strong and condescending. Ralph felt like a fox bowing to a lion.

When his voice finally found him, Ralph tried to sound bigger than he was, "I didn't realize this was your office," the second year added quickly, "Sir," He withdrew his wand sheepishly, and returned it to his robes which were wrinkled from sleeping in them. He hoped Professor Hill wouldn't notice and connect the dots.

Hill's eyebrow raised. Ralph felt the heat of embarrassment rise to his cheeks, "Oh, you wanted to know why I was here? In your office?" The student took a step back, trying to think of a reason for his breaking and entering. Ralph responded with faked enthusiasm, "I was actually looking for a wonderful place to practice some of my spells!"

The professor could sense that this was a lie, and he took a step towards the student, closing the gap between them again.

"Ah, did I say spells? I meant, ah, ah," Ralph took another step back, bumping into the only bookcase in the room. He bit his lip. This was it. He was going to get expelled. Expelled! Before, the thought had been so enticing, but now that his fate was upon him, Ralph had decided that it wasn't what he wanted.

He clasped his hands together, looking up at the stern professor with all the misery he could muster, "Please, sir, don't have me expelled!" The second year begged, tears forming in his amber eyes.

spaceRory wasn't particularly thrilled to be called to his Head of House's office. Mostly because he was pretty sure he knew why he was being summoned, and was equally sure that it was bullshite. Not that he hadn't been the one going around vandalizing the school, because he had. But he'd made damn certain not to get caught or leave any evidence. He was good, dammit. He knew he hadn't done anything to get caught. So why in the hell did Professor Hill suspect him? A wiser voice in his head kept saying that perhaps his certainty was arrogance, but he wasn't paying it much mind. For one, since when wasn't he arrogant? It was the only thing that'd gotten him this far. Especially with his father; if not for his inflated ego, he was pretty sure the man's constant bullying would've had him tossing himself in front of a train by now. It'd always served him well in the past. Besides, he wasn't arrogant without cause; he had been careful! So careful! He was only certain he hadn't left any evidence because he'd been completely and utterly meticulous about not leaving any evidence. Whatever Hill had on him, it was bullshite. Hearsay. Truth, but it still couldn't be more than a rumor.

spaceIf he asked to see Rory's sketchbook, the boy was pretty much screwed, since his style was pretty distinctive. But he didn't doodle in class, especially not in Herbology (who the ******** had the time for that?!), so there was no way the man had seen his work. No, Hill just didn't like him (or anybody, but Rory didn't doubt he was a special kind of annoying, since he usually was) and wanted to bust him for a crime he didn't actually know Rory had committed. Well, Rory was going to demand to see whatever the hell 'proof' the man had before he suffered his consequences. He didn't care about detentions, or even expulsion, since he'd been betting on that happening since the day he showed up at this fancy arse school. But he was damn well going to insist that they have had evidence before convicting his arse. He entered the office with a frown, arms crossed, and waited. Not like he was gonna make this easy for anyone.

As eyed the door before him. He was pretty sure his grades were suffering because the professor was a complete berk, but he had the perfect solution. He was going to see just what Professor Hill was writing about him and his performance in class. He hadn't told Rune because seriously, his brother was likely to get their mum involved, and he really didn't want that. His mum was scary. And if it wasn't his mum, it was going to be their aunt, who in some respects was a lot worse because she she got this look in her eyes of such utter betrayal that would instantly make him feel horrible.. As it stood, neither relative was really a good choice for getting caught, or his brother to inform, so he had kept Rune in the dark.

Still, he was pretty sure that the locked door was taunting him. It wasn't a simple alohomora (but considering how many students knew it, that wasn't a shock). He figured that Professor Hill had to actually lock it with a key. Which, it was probably a good thing he had managed to sneak his lockpicks out of the house. Otherwise his bestefar was likely to have found them and he was going to be in so much trouble for even having them. Never mind that he was certain that Uncle Jer had a set when he was living in the house. His bestefar was going to give in that look, not the Ada Look, but the Olan Look, the one that suggested that his bestefar was going to give him a lecture that was likely to make him to confess to everything he'd ever done. Up to and including the time he'd snuck into his father's office and stolen his dad's camera.

His fingers reached for the packet in his robes, pulling it out and opening it to reveal his picks. Eyeing the keyhole, he debated about the best tools for the job. It was an older lock, but he wasn't fooled. Older locks meant that wizards had likely improved upon them with magic, and he wasn't willing to destroy his pick set to find out just what charms were on the lock. He'd just have to use his probes first, and find out for sure. Pulling one out, he eyed the lock again before he glanced around the hall. No one yet, but that could change. Fiddling with the probe, he examined the lock again, trying to figure out the best place to insert it to test his theory.

spaceBillie was bored, which was never a good state of being. She didn't do particularly well with boredom. Too much pent up energy. So, obviously the solution was to hunt down one of the twins and convince them to do something. The Slytherin common room was closer to her own than the Ravenclaw, so she figured she'd start there and see if she could find Aspen. Although, she might've had better luck with Ravenclaw; she wasn't the brightest star in the sky, but even she could solve a riddle. Sometimes, anyway. Point being, it was way easier than guessing a random password. Even if the password was set by Jason.

spaceWhatever, her plan was a good one. Which she was quite happy with. She made making her way to the dungeons into a game as well, for the fun of it of course, sneaking as quietly as she could manage to see if she could make it without being seen by anybody. The portraits were harder to sneak past than most people, but she was doing alright, she thought. Of course, some of them were probably only pretending not to see her, because it was cute. But she was fine with that. It was a fun distraction, until she made it down to the Slytherin common room's entrance.

spaceOr, that's where she had been heading, until she ducked her head around a corner and noticed one of her yearmates, crouched down in front of a door. Jason's office, she was pretty sure. Billie chewed her lip, debating. They could be up to no good! Or... they could just be up to mischief, which was very different from being up to no good. Mischief, she figured, was fine. She got up to enough of that herself. Chewing her lip, she snuck up on the boy, not quite recognizing him by just the back of his head. When she was very close (too close, honestly, well into his personal bubble), she breathed,
"Whatcha doin'?" just behind his ear. Possibly a good way to get hit, but then, she wasn't used to being able to actually sneak up on people. To her, he obviously realized she was there, and being quiet was probably imperative. It was Jason's office, so getting caught at this juncture would be bad. She didn't want to get him in trouble. Not unless it turned out he was, in fact, up to no good.

As was too busy concentrating on the lock before him, trying to figure out the best place to put his probe, when someone behind him spoke. He jumped, startled, then clutched the back of his head as it collided with something hard and solid. "Ah shite!" he swore, rubbing the back of his head. Whatever that was, it was hard. He turned, frowning, wanting to give the person who interrupted him a piece of his mind and spotted a girl, one he vaguely remembered from his year.

Instead of complaining, he instead turned back toward the task at hand. "What's it butcher's like? I'm trying to see I can get in." Granted, he figured it'd probably be easier to lie, but what was she likely to do? Report him to the professor? He'd already been in detention once because someone reported that he'd stolen something from a house mate, but it wasn't like the guy would miss it. He was another pureblood, and As was well-acquainted with the fact that the kid was rich. Besides, if she was really going to report him, he figured that she'd likely hunt down Hill and bring the professor to the scene of the crime. That's what Rune always did when he caught As doing something he shouldn't be doing, in any case.

spaceBillie realized, belatedly, that perhaps she shouldn't have gotten so close behind him, regardless of if he knew she was there or not. Which he apparently didn't, because no sooner had she spoken than his head slammed backwards into her face. She reached up to check her nose, first feeling the shape in case it was broken, then looking at her fingertips to see if it was bleeding. Good news, it was both not broken and not bleeding, which she would count as a win. She was, more than anything, bemused by the fact that he'd not apologized for hitting her, instead turning immediately back to his task with barely a glance at her.

spaceHer head tilted in curiosity, watching him mess with the lock.
"How come?" she asked. "Just because, or is there a point?" If it was indeed 'just because,' she didn't think Jason's lock was the best one to pick. But, if it were for a reason, which it may very well be since Jason was the boy's head of house, she could understand. Maybe. If it was a good reason. Either way, she was sort of impressed that he was so gutsy. She drew in close again, hovering with her face nearly right next to his over his shoulder, standing but leaned over. She was too short to see what he was doing if she also knelt, after all.

space"I'm Billie," she said, not sure if he remembered her name or not. She knew he was a Borson, but admittedly couldn't remember which one. They hadn't really ever spoken. And their names were a bit weird. Not that she had any room to talk, she guessed. Not many girls were walking around named Billie.
