Merpeople Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

Merpeople are sentient beings (or beasts, as they want nothing to do with the likes of vampires and hags) that live underwater, and are found all over the world. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and, like the Centaurs, they refused Being status in favour of Beast. Merpeople can breathe above the waves for a time, but it is unclear if they can ever truly leave their habitat.

Merpeople society is based around organised communities, and they have a great love of music. Their language is known as Mermish, and only a few Wizards know how to speak it. However, since their language can only be heard properly underwater, it sounds like a loud screeching when spoken above water.

The term "Merpeople" is an umbrella term. There are several distinct sub-species around the world.

Merpeople Rules

+ Their singing can be heard if close enough to the surface
+ Can be attractive but, when angered, change appearance to be more like the Merpeople seen in the Harry Potter movies
+ Must have a love for singing
+ Allowed a Grindylow as a pet
+ Capable of some human speech, under the water. Mostly speaks in Mermish, which only other Mermaids and some wizards/witches understand
+ Typically are members of a pod, and are loyal to the pod and its leader.

Portrait Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

Portraits are paintings made of certain individuals, namely witches and warlocks.

The subject of a magical portrait is sentient due to enchantments placed on the portrait by the painter. The portrait will be able to use some of the subject's favourite phrases and imitate their general demeanour based on how the subject appears to the painter; however, they are limited in what they can say or do.

A portrait can also move from portrait to portrait, or else visit a portrait of them elsewhere in the world.

A portrait knows little if anything of its subject's life, and therefore could not hold a very interesting conversation about its subject. The exception to this is of the portraits of Hogwarts headmasters, which are kept in a cupboard from the time of their painting, which is usually very old, until the subject dies. The headmaster can therefore teach their portrait to act and speak like them so that they can teach their successors.

The person depicted in a portrait can therefore live indefinitely, although a portrait does have reason to fear for their life or well-being.

Portrait Rules

Famous Hogwarts Portraits

You are welcome and encouraged to create your own original characters. But, why get rid of the old, historic portraits that are still there? These ghosts are available to take (taken ones have been striked out):

The Fat Lady: A portrait, who guards the entrance to Gryffindor Tower at Hogwarts Castle. She asks for passwords before she lets anyone in, then swings her picture backward so that students could enter through a portrait hole. Little is known about her early life or what her name was when she was alive. She presumably was educated at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor house. She was well known for her indulgence in good food and drink, as well as a passion for "tip-top security", traits that her portrait would later possess.

Sir Cadogan: was a believed Knight of the Round Table included in wizarding versions of the tales of King Arthur. He is most famous for his defeat of the Wyvern of Wye at great personal risk. Sometime after his death, he was immortalized with a portrait on the seventh floor of Hogwarts Castle, which displayed the same "insane bravery" as Cadogan did in life. Elizabeth Burke: was a witch. She had portraits hung at Hogwarts Castle, depicting her as a dark-dressed witch in a ruff and sporting a very pointed hat. She appears to be a pure-blood witch, seeing as she tells Slytherin students to be "nasty to Mudbloods." (( Taken by mc2 ))

Google Stump: was a shy and stuttering wizard. He had some portraits of himself hung in Hogwarts Castle. In 1994 one of them hung in the Tapestry Corridor and by 1995, a portrait was in the Viaduct Entrance. Stump's portrait guarded a secret passage from there to the first floor corridor. No one had told him the password. When confronted by Harry Potter, who asked if he was really doing his job if no one used his shortcut, the portrait told the student the password. The password, Volo futurus unus, meaning in Latin "I want to be alone", brings out the shyness of the wizard. Later in the school year, he directed Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger to the portrait of Giffard Abbott to obtain the password to access the shortcut behind Percival Pratt's portrait.

Percival Pratt: Percival Pratt was a wizard poet. He has a portrait hung in Hogwarts Castle's Grand Staircase. He is portrayed as a man in a red robe, writing on his desk, with a starry sky and a full moon behind him. He is often heard saying rhymes and riddles to students who walk by. He often encourages students to " take time every day to rhyme what [they] say ." Up until 1996, Mr. Pratt's portrait guarded a shortcut between the Grand Staircase and the Boathouse. The password of this shortcut was "This password is absurd".

Timothy the Timid: Timothy the Timid is a very shy wizard with a moustache and very sparse hair. Very shy, he was afraid of many things and disliked people (and other portraits), who stared at him, becoming paranoid with time.

Violet: A witch in a painting at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her portrait hangs in a small chamber off of the Great Hall. Because of this, she witnessed when Harry Potter and the other Triwizard Tournament participants were given the information about the tournament. She is friends with the Fat Lady and is known to go to her painting as well as going other places to find things to gossip about. Violet and the Fat Lady are known to drink too much on special occasions such as Christmas. She also gave Bill Weasley a wink during the Triwizard Tournament.

Thestrals Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

A Thestral is a breed of winged horses with a skeletal body, face with reptilian features, and wide, leathery wings that resemble a bat's.

They are very rare, and are considered dangerous by the Ministry of Magic. Thestrals are, undeservedly, known as omens of misfortune and aggression by many wizards because they are visible only to those who have witnessed death at least once (and fully accepted the concept) or due to their somewhat grim, gaunt and ghostly appearance.

Thestrals can be domesticated and mounted, so they are used as an alternative to brooms, Apparition and other methods of transportation. Once trained, they are very diligent and will quickly carry their owners wherever they wish to go.

Due to their classification as XXXX, only experienced wizards should try to handle Thestrals.

Thestral Rules

+ Must be in the Forbidden Forest
+ Cannot be seen by characters who have never witness death
+ Cannot speak
+ Used to pull carriages
+ Carnivorous, but don't attack other creatures or students unless seriously disturbed
+ Well-taken care of by the Keeper of Keys and Game
+ React satisfactorily to caresses
+ Must avoid attacking owls
+ Are typically members of a herd and are submissive to its leader

Famous Thestrals

You are welcome and encouraged to create your own original characters. However, this is one of the currently living and available Thestrals from the book series that you may consider roleplaying as:

Tenebrus: Tenebrus was a Thestral who lived in the Forbidden Forest. Part of the Hogwarts Thestral Herd, he was the first Thestral to have been born in the Forest, presumably to the male and one of the five females initially acquired. He was the personal favourite of gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid. In 1995, when Hagrid introduced his Fifth year Care of Magical Creatures students to Thestrals, Tenebrus was the first to appear after he called for the herd.

Trolls Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

A Troll is a magical creature of prodigious strength and immense stupidity. In fact, they are so stupid that they actually had a wizarding exam failing grade named after them. Trolls generally reach a height of about twelve feet and weigh up to nearly a ton. They are dangerously violent and incredibly aggressive, and then engage in unpredictable behaviour; a bit comparable with giants. Trolls originated in Scandinavia, but are now found all across Europe. Trolls feed on raw flesh, and are not that fussy about what they eat, from animals to even humans.

Troll language is nothing more than simple grunts that only Trolls seem to be able to interpret, though skilled magical multi-linguists such as Barty Crouch can understand them. Trolls understand only a limited number of Human words, and some smarter ones can be skillfully trained as security Trolls.

Troll Rules

+ Must not cause a mess of any room (unless plot dictates otherwise)

+ Can only communicate with grunts or using some words
+ Very violent

+ Are typically members of a clan and are loyal to that clan, although in-fighting is common due to their violent natures
+ The strongest and largest troll in any given clan is generally the leader

Unicorns Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

The unicorn is a white, equine creature with a single horn on its forehead. Unicorns are capable of moving faster than werewolves.

Unicorns prefer a woman's touch, but the young ones are more trusting and do not mind men as much. Veela Profile Skeleton

Basic Information

The Veela are a race of semi-human, semi-magical humanoids reminiscent of the Sirens of Greek mythology. Little is known about their biology; they appear to be young, beautiful humans. Their looks and especially their dance is magically seductive to almost all male beings, which causes them to perform strange actions in order to get nearer to them. Veela are thought to have their own type of magic which does not require a wand. When Veela are angry, however, they transform into something more like Harpies — their faces turn into cruel-beaked bird heads while long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from their hands. Veela seem to be quite an irascible race.

Veela hair is a magical substance, suitable as a core for wand manufacture. Renowned wandmaker Garrick Ollivander noted that he personally never uses it, as the product tends to be temperamental.

Veela Rules

Wood Nymphs are beautiful creatures, ranging in size from about that of a pixie to dwarven, and are able to speak and to sing, and they are apparently happy to interact with wizards and indeed do as they are told. According to Fleur Delacour, they are used amongst the Christmas decorations at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, where they sing to the students.
