Merry wasn't entirely sure how she'd made it back to the dorms. Her vision had been spotty, and grey around the edges, and every move she made hurt. A sharp, grinding ache that had worked it's way into a continuous burn that made her stomach churn rather unhelpfully. The hunter had worked her over, brutally, and she looked an absolute mess as she climbed the stairs to the nocturnal wing of the monster dorms. White fur was stained across her chest in a diagonal, but the worst of it was her stomach. A deep stab that still oozed with every move. The shorts she'd worn were ruined, soaked on one side, and it dripped down her thigh.

Reaching the landing was a relief, but there was still the hall to walk down before she'd made it to the safety of her room. Leaning heavily on the wall she made her way down, teeth clenched tight around the whimper that had been threatening to escape since she'd escaped the house. It hurt, but she was stronger than that.

At the last moment, as fingers brushed her door knob, she thought better of hiding out in solitude. Instead she moved past her room, to the next door. "Nahm?" Her voice was a cracked thing as she smacked a hand against the door, then reached for the knob, turning it, and damn near taking the light blocking curtain down as she stumbled through it.

Nahm winced away from the brief flare of light, throwing his sleeve up to keep the sharp burn from his eyes, ready to be irritable about the carelessness of the interruption. The sharp smell of fresh blood eeled across the room before he could say anything, and as the curtain fell back into place, plunging the room back into full darkness, the grue was on his feet and striding across to catch the chimera before she fell. "Who hurt you," he demanded, his voice a low growl, his words unusually defined and clipped.

Carefully he scooped her up. The faint firefly glow of his eyes tracked to each wound, and he adjusted his grip carefully to keep from jostling the injuries as he carried her over to his bed and put her down gently. "I'm going to bandage you," he told her. "I'm not good at fearhealing yet. If it's bad enough, I'll get someone." The scrape of a drawer opening sounded behind the head of the bed, and a shuffling and rustling indicated that he was getting something out.

A weak apology was mumbled as Nahm scooped her up, trailing into a wince as it put pressure on her stomach, but she was leaning into him, tail curling around his waist, as he carried her across the room and lay her on the bed. "I don't know," was her immediate response to his question, because in all honestly she still didn't quite understand. "He said he was a hunter." It might make more sense to Nahm, the grue having been there longer than her.

Another wince as he set her down, and for whatever reason the mention of bandages, fear healing, pulled that stubborn whimper from dry lips. It was likely the ghoul had been in shock up to this point. A natural buffer to block the worst of the pain, the harsh reality of what had happened, until she had managed to crawl to somewhere safe. Now, in the safest place in Amity, it was sinking in.

Someone, or something, had tried to kill her. It didn't matter that they didn't die that easily, they could still be hurt, and seriously, and this man, this hunter had done that.

The sound of Nahm digging through a draw had her tipping her head back, red eyes glued on that tall figure, watching. That long, thin tail making wide, curling sweeps across the comforter of his bed, palms pressed hard against her stomach and he wound hidden beneath them.

A brief pause in the rustling, his hands stilled, before he moved again, returning to the bed with a wide, flat box in one hand. "Hunter," Nahm said thoughtfully. He set the box down and opened it, tore open a wrapped packet. The sharp smell of a cleanser washed out as he took out a wipe. He leaned over her, his nostrils flaring and his eyes narrowed, touched lightly at the injury sites with bared fingertips, claws carefully retracted as he examined what he could see. "Stomach's the worst? Let me see."

Long fingers curled around one of her wrists and tugged.

"Hunter," she repeated, strained. "He said I was unlucky. Said I'd caught him on a bad they. They weren't all bad." It didn't make any sense to the ghoul. What in Jack's name was a hunter?

She nodded at his question, putting up very minimal resistance when he looped long fingers around her wrist and pulled at her hand. The other lingered for a second, but she moved that one without being prompted and closed her eyes to draw in a deep breath. Which... wasn't exactly a great idea. A hiss followed on the exhale. It wasn't a very large wound, but it was deep. Low on her stomach and angling down towards her right side.

"He. He said his weapon used to be one of us." Again, she hadn't understood what he meant, but that had made her blood run cold.

Nahm made a grumbling, thoughtful noise without words. As Merry moved her hands away from the wound he moved to wipe excess blood away, his eyes narrowing as he assessed it. "Guts aren't gonna fall out," he pronounced, and pressed a thick pad of clean gauze over it. "Hold that a minute."

Once she had put her hand back in place, he opened a small kit that he hadn't had to use in several years, checked the date on the contents, and once he'd satisfied himself that nothing was expired, took a needle out of a packet and deftly threaded it with a thick black thread. "When Ahm comes back, you tell him all of what happened," he directed, a request that shaded into almost a demand. "As much's you can remember, details, all of it. This is gonna hurt, you want something to bite?"

He was being awfully clinical in the moment, and really it made sense. Panicking or falling into a vengeful rage wouldn't have helped anything, but there was a very large part of the ghoul that wanted nothing more then to pull the grue down beside her and wrap as much of him around herself as she could. His warmth, his scent, all of it. But that would have been unhelpful.

So she focused on his voice and the feel of his fingers on her wrist before they fluttered away. She put a habs on the gauze, tried to even her breathing. A stocky blink followed the near command, but she nodded, eyes closing again.

They opened at the warning, and another uneasy whimper passed her lips as she eyed the needle. "Um." There was no good answer to that question! "Y-yes." The tail around his waist tightened.

Nahm nodded and handed her what looked like it might have been part of a broom handle at some point, unevenly sliced on one side. "I'll make this fast." He looked at her face for a moment, then bent down to place a deliberate kiss on her forehead.

The job itself was done quickly, the few stitches slightly uneven-looking but sturdy. He was out of practice at the purely physical mechanics of mending, but they'd learned some time back that there were three means of dealing with deep slices like this: take the injured creature to a Fearhealer, treat it themselves, or finish the job off so the creature would reform whole. The first and third solutions required involving creeple who were very likely to report seriously out-of-line young grues to the Council, and the third suggestion was rarely if ever well-received by the injured party. So they'd learned to treat the sort of injuries that were difficult to pass off as accidental themselves. Claiming an interest in hobby-level mad science had been an easy way to acquire the necessary training for some of the more esoteric skills. Once he'd finished the stitching, Nahm placed a fresh gauze pad over the site and taped it in place. The tape would pull out fur when removed later, but fur was easier to regrow.

"That's done," he told Merry, and tended to the lesser injuries next, cleaning and bandaging with careful, efficient fingers.

It might have been better, for her nerves, if there had been a moment to breath, but Merry couldn't exactly argue with getting it done and over with as quickly as possible. She hurt, every breath pulled in nauseating ways against her stomach, and maybe Nahm would have some sort of pain killer he'd share with her once all was said and done.

The broom handle was taken, and after a dubious look and a long sigh she wedged between pearly teeth. Just in time for the first awful p***k of the needle and the disconcerting tug of thread through already angry flesh. There was a chance the boil's stitches would have been a little neater had she been able to hold still, but Merry couldn't help the involuntary twitching, the writhing, the general expected behavior from a monster that had never experienced such a thing before.

The kiss, at least, had been a comfort. A subtle sweetness. She kept her eyes shut tight during the process, and opened them only as he declared the job done, a fresh gauze pad pressed over the wound. The usually chatty chimera lay their quietly, subdued, as he worked bandage her up, and after a few moments stained hands were up, the heels of her palms resting over her eyes, fingers holding bangs off her face.

"Finished," Nahm said after an unmeasurable space of time, and set the first aid box to the side, atop the dresser; he would see to cleaning and replacing supplies later. Something rattled softly. "Here," and he presented her with two unmarked tablets. "I'll get you something to drink."

When she had taken the tablets, he moved away to the small refrigerator the twins kept for their food, taking out a bottle of water, then dropping swiftly to one knee to fish out something small and fast-moving from behind the couch. When he returned to the bed to hand Merry the water bottle, Nahm held a squirming, hissing spariyder in his other hand. "Eating'll help you regenerate faster," he suggested, and sat down on the side of the bed, careful not to jostle her.

Finished. It had a very sweet ring to it just then. Merry let out a sigh of relief, tension seeping away by inches until she was actually laying against the blankets and not just resting on top of them. They were soft, and a turn of her head let her draw in the familiar, comforting scent of the grue before the rattle of the tablets had her blinking up at him again.

Wordlessly she took them. It didn't matter what they were, if Nahm told her they would help, then she trusted that they would. They were turned over and over in her fingers as she waited for the water, rolled, and twisted, until finally landing on her tongue as the water bottle was offered to her. Those at least went down smooth. The hissing spriyder was another story. She eyed it, brows creased and lips pressed together, before looking up to meet that glowing gaze. There was a protest there at the tip of her tongue, and indeed a small sound escaped when she opened her mouth, but the poor thing lacked the energy to debate -- and it would be a debate, she knew. Nahm would insist she eat something, no matter how lacking her appetite.

Another sigh, resigned this time, and she'd open her mouth obediently for him. She tried not to think about how it crunched, the spindly legs, and chewed it quick before swallowing it down swiftly.

"Thank you." She reached for his hand.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 31, 2014 2:14 pm
Nahm was gracious enough, at least, to snap the spariyder's neck before handing it over to be eaten. "Fresh is better for healing," he explained, and cupped her hand between his. "Y'want to borrow a robe to sleep in?" There was no inquiry as to whether she'd be staying; for one, she was far too wobbly to make it back to her own room without losing one or more of her bandages, and two, it would be much easier to guard her while she rested if she was here.

It wasn't often Merry noticed the differences in their sizes. Not that she wasn't aware, just that they always seemed on such equal ground with each other. Now she felt small, her hand dainty and delicate in his long fingers.

She considered his offer, and pale features gave a soft pinch in distaste. Robes were bulky, they wrapped around her legs, twisted around her arms, and there was nowhere for her wings to go. "Maybe a t-shirt, or just a pair of shorts." Something small and light. If Nahm felt like making the trip, her door was unlocked, and she had a good number of things that could double as pajamas. Many shirts with the backs cut away.

The tail around his hips tightened again as he sank down beside her, and she had the strong desire to curl up against his side, but even the idea seemed to hurt. "You'll stay with me?" It was a question she already knew the answer to. "Will Ahm be back tonight?"

Nahm stretched over to the dresser and fished a pair of boxers out of one of the drawers. It was printed with a strategically placed smiley face, which probably meant that it belonged to Nahm; Ahm's taste in clothes tended to be slightly more dignified than his brother's. "Sit up a minute and I'll get the blanket off, got some blood on it," he suggested. "Course I will, and he'll be back in a couple hours probably, taking a test."

The sight of the Smiley face boxers brought a soft smile to Merry's lips, and she took them from his grasp before reaching up for his shoulder so she could pull herself up into a sitting position. Bending hurt, but there was something about knowing everything was sewed up and safely tucked away beneath the cover of thick bandages that made it all a little more bearable. There was the soft intake of a pained hiss, but she was up.

While Nahm stripped off the blanket on his bed, Merry started on peeling her blood stained shorts over her thighs, but she had to stop before much progress had been made. The ghoul was going to need a hand with that, so she skipped ahead to pull her ruined halter over her head, then set it pushed it sadly towards the hamper. Maybe the blood would come out. Maybe she could salvage it somehow. Probably not.

When Nahm had finished with the bed she flashed him a shadow her her usual, amorous grin. "Lend me a hand, handsome?" She gave one of her belt loops a tug.
