[PRP] Trying To Be a Good Brother [Umbre x Lumi]

Y'know, life was hard when you had an over-protective brother. Sure, Virus adored his brother, Umbre, but it didn't make it any easier. The brothers were inseparable, mostly, but Virus sometimes longed for a little space. He was a sweet and naive boy, and he knew Umbre was just protecting him. Without his brother, Virus would have gotten himself into loads of trouble. Maybe turned into a vampire, which was what Umbre always was prattling on about. He was grateful for his clawed brother, but he also felt just a bit smothered.

This was why he was at the pond by himself. Umbre was probably sleeping in their cave, still. It was early and the sun had only just peeked out from behind the tree tops. Virus often woke up earlier than his brother, and this time he had decided not to wait before getting a bath and some water.

Stretching out under the sun's rays, the green and black male dabbed at the water with a paw. It was still a bit cold, but spring was coming. He could handle a slight cold. Sliding into the pond, he let out a sharp yelp, instantly regretting jumping into the pond. That was way colder then he expected! Jeez!

Ignoring the warning his brother had given him to always check his surroundings before bathing, the male laid back within the water and closed his eyes. Aaaah, this was the life.

Lumi was one of the more gentle ones from her litter of six. She also got the least dominate traits of being a wereleopard. She was and is the baby out of her parents litter and well her siblings depending on which one you ran into had a good amount of their mothers possessive protectiveness to steer anything scary away from her and her other sister Jyotsna who didn’t get the overly aggressiveness. Then there was her mother a full blooded wereleopard who did everything to ensure her kids’ safety and survival. Add her dads love for his mate and kids well nothing got within a five mile radius of the den that could even potentially posse as a threat. So Lumi grew up being on the top of the food chain in her mind. Not that she went out thinking she was the biggest baddest thing there was. She just hadn’t run into anything that threatened her and made her fear.

She had traveled far from the protective sheltered land of her parents. She was an adult now and was allowed far from her mother’s sight as well as some of her siblings. She was in a very cat like mood today. The rising sun felt lovely on her fur and was warming her up nicely. She was tapped into her playful cat side that her mother only showed towards them and knew it was okay because mother had done it. So she had no fear of doing something wrong. Mom had said on occasion it was fine and so here was the occasion.
She was playfully jumping from boulder and rock to base of trees. She even scurried up some trees and leapt from branches. Just enjoying the rush of wind going over her fur. She let out a happy giggle as she went not knowing she was wondering into a tribes land because she had no idea that tribes were even a thing. Mother and Father were never in one and had never talked about such things so this was beyond her thoughts.

The sound of giggling interrupted his relaxation, causing a soft sigh to escape him. Who was it now? One of Nuishan's kids? His sister? Someone else from the tribe? Rolling onto his front, the male peeked out from above the water, glowing eyes scanning his surroundings. It didn't take long to spot a grey and green stranger leaping back and forth between the boulders near the pond.

Oh no. Her noise would surely wake his brother and induce the protective wrath of the clawed male. He pulled himself free from the water, shaking off and quickly rolling into the grass for a quick dry. He might as well warn her before a certain someone arrived.

"Hello?" Padding closer, the male stopped a good distance from the stranger. His tail flicked around his body, securely protecting the wet male from the breeze.

Lumi hadn’t noticed that she had stumbled upon another till they had called out to her. It startled her and she let out a squeak and skidded to a quick halt. Her mother would have her tail if she ever found out that Lumi hadn’t been paying attention to her surrounding and was caught unaware.

She sat on a boulder and blinked a couple times at the male staying as still as possible. Her instinct was telling her don’t move and maybe the other will think she isn’t there. Well that was before her head kicked in and said duh of course he knew she was there because he had called out to her. She shifted uneasily between her paws before nodding her head in greeting to the male.

Oh. Well, that was cute! A paw covered his mouth as a chuckle escaped, tail wagging in a quick greeting before tightly curling around his body once more. The silence was long as he gazed at her, waiting for a response of any kind. Had she heard him? Was she mute?

She nodded, which didn't confirm and disprove anything. Virus glanced about to ensure a certain someone wasn't present, dragging himself up and padding a few steps closer to hopefully get his voice across.

"Uh, Miss." He called, glowing eyes curving as a smile spread across his face in good nature. "You wouldn't have happened to see a white fox with splattered markings, have you?" His smile seemed almost infectious as a light laugh cascaded from his mouth.

Yeah it was quickly realized to her that the hold still technique was not going to discourage this male. Though he seemed perfectly friendly with his smile and none aggressive body language. She glanced around to see if one of her siblings had followed her or maybe her mother. Being one of the youngest the family had a huge thing about her talking to strangers. Not a tail or spot in sight.

She decided that it was safe to talk to the male. She tilted her head as she thought about it. Her ears kind of flopped sideways because of this. “Mmmmmm “ she said while thinking before replying “Uh no… no males but you” she informed him. She studied him for a moment longer before asking “why?”

A heavy sigh of relief escaped him and he flopped onto the ground, paws folding neatly. Good good. That was the last thing he needed to deal with right now. He didn't need his brother charging through and accusing this poor girl of whatever nonsense he was afraid of today. Last week his brother had been accusing strangers of being cannibals, and the week before he was absolutely certain this one vixen Virus had been talking to was a succubus. Honestly, he had no clue how these thoughts came into his brothers head, but boy was it tiresome.

"Mm? Oh. It's nothing, really. My brother is a bit aggressive and I was hoping he would still be asleep soundly."

Aggressive?!? She thought in worry. She glanced around looking for the nearest sturdy branch that would hold her weight and be high off the ground. She wanted to make sure her escape route was clear and easy to get to if she needed to get away. Her body shifted back into a position that would allow her to leap out of danger easier.

“ That does not sound like nothing.” Her thoughts tried to figure out how much of a threat he would be to her. “He sounds like a lion…..he isn’t part lion is he?” she asked with fear clearly ringing in her voice. Lions killed leopards and leopard cubs. She knew that male lions were much bigger than their counter part the females and the females were a handful enough. Now to add a male who had more power than that of a female. Then it hit her that he had said brother which made her turn a fearful gaze to the male. “Are you part lion?”

What? Lion? What was that? He stared at her with a puzzled expression, head slowly cocking to the side before a slight laugh left him. Oh! She was joking! Man, she almost got him!

"Oh, you're silly! Always good to meet someone with a humor." And then he froze, smelling a familiar scent just in time to roll to the side and avoid a white blur descending on him.

"Now's your chance! Run!" Screeched said white blur as a large male came tumbling out of the pushes and collided straight into the ground. A splattered-marked fox popped up, frantically moving in-front of his brother and desperately nudging him towards the path back to their tribe.

"I've come to save you. Lets go. Come on. Before it bares its fangs." He refused to look at the nearby vixen, absolutely convinced she was some supernatural foe ready to take his brother down. This was why he never let Virus out of his sight! He was always in danger!

Virus sighed rather loudly, paw placing on Umbre's shoulder and gently pushing him away. "Oh, you stop. You'll frighten away my new friend. She isn't a ghost or whatever spooky fright you're rambling about now. Look. Just a normal vixen." This did not cease his brothers protective stance, instead fueling it. Umbre's black eyes flicked to view the grey vixen, ears back. Oh deities no. Who the hell was she?

Lumi blinked at the male. He thought she was joking? No she wasn’t joking about the lion part or well for that matter any part of it. She was quite serious. While she did have a sense of humor she was not using it just yet. She was about to say so when suddenly came crashing at them. The male moved away and she, herself jumped back. What in the world was that? She backed up till her hind legs bumped a tree behind her. Her body crotched down into a much lower position and grew tense waiting to jump up into the trees and make her escape if need be and she feared she might. Her eyes darted between the two and her mouth slightly open ready to let out a warning sound if the white male decided advance on her. She had to be brave for no one else was here to protect her. “It a white lion!” she said in fright noticing the new males claws.

Oh no! Oh no no no! Virus padded between his brother and Lumi, apologetically crouching to her size.

"Wait wait, that's my brother!" He reassured, giving a friendly wag before glancing back at Umbre, huffing towards him. "Umbre, say something nice! You scared her!"

Umbre scowled, leaning back to stare at Lumi before glancing at Virus, mouth parting. Was he serious? Something nice? To this stranger? No way! Still, the look on Virus' face did make him realize he was being a tad aggressive, sure.

The first male’s voice raised high as he tried to reassure her that the ‘white lion’ wasn’t a threat. It made her wince seeing as her ears were very sensitive. She liked the first male enough but this second one had her ready to run. She was kicking herself for not bringing one of her brothers along. She kept her body low to make herself a smaller target. But eased some of the tension out of her back legs because if she didn’t leap soon all the power she had stored up in them wouldn’t do her any good and would actually cause her legs to cramp which would leave her at their mercy. She cautiously nodded her head to the new male before whispering out a “Hello.”

Virus shot a glance towards Umbre, his mouth tightening in frustration. He was just having a wonderful time with this stranger until his more confrontational brother had to come along. Gently, he slid back upright, tail wagging as the two greeted one another.

"See, not a spook," Virus reassured his brother, turning towards the other fox with an apologetic smile. "We didn't exchange names, did we? I'm Virus, and this guy is Umbre, it's a pleasure to meet you."

Umbre stood beside his brother, shoulders drawn in as a sullen frown laid on his muzzle.
