Kiska - The Troubled One

User Image

Personality: A beautiful, pure soul despite appearances, she is quiet, gentle, sweet and innocent, almost to a fault. Except for the fact that there is something within her...something she doesn't understand. Kiska is reserved when it comes to strangers, offish, because she's never truly been accepted anywhere. Shadowed by the darkness that runs in her blood, struggling with self-acceptance and self-worth after a lifetime of verbal abuse from her kalona sire, she just wants to live a life filled with happiness...but it always seems just out of reach... Her soulmate is her other half, truly the reason for Kiska to fight those inner demons.

Background: Born of a co-dependent ground mare and her cruel kalona mate, Kiska was raised in a rocky environment filled with angry words and hurt feelings. She met Alayna as a filly, the daughter of a social-elite neighboring herd's leaders, and they became fast friends. Kiska knew she could probably spend the rest of her life with Alayna if given the chance...but Alayna's parents feared for their reputation and the friends were separated. Life went on, but deep down Kiska felt the sting of rejection, hurting more so than her own sire's biting words.

And then came the day they crossed paths again. Their friendship started anew--as well as feelings Kiska was afraid to show, love and trust forming a tight bond. The two became companions, Kiska drawn to Alayna's easy charisma, though the draft mare was known to be reckless. After a cliff stunt gone wrong, Kiska realized how suddenly she could lose her secret lover, and her feelings came bubbling to the surface. She loved her, and she was surprised when Alayna shared those feelings.

Winning Prompt Response: (obviously for fun, since background will be changed to mesh with her partner's background, but for now!)

Was there ever a time you've been without her? It feels like you two have been together for an eternity. You two are childhood friends, you grew up together. You know everything about each other. And yet there are still secrets to hide, secrets that you two haven't dared share to each other.

Kiska didn't like to remember back to the time where Korra wasn't by her side, a shining light, a beacon in the darkness that seemed to plague the half-kalona mare's soul. In fact, she'd gotten pretty good at shielding herself from those thoughts, those memories filled with anger spraying like blood across the grass, the screaming of her parents as they argued and fought, the way her poor mother softly cried at night, her heart filled with ache because she was torn between being alone--maybe forever--and staying with Him.

A shiver wormed its way up Kiska's spine. He was her father, but he was never a father figure, not even when she was a tiny little filly looking for praise. He merely gave her a scowl, disdain, because she couldn't do anything right. Because she was too skinny, too gentle, too childish, too too too. And all the toos piled up on top of her young heart, weighing her down.

And it was Korra--big, bold, brash and always laughing--daughter of the neighboring herd's healer. She'd been the result of a one-night-stand. No father to bruise her heart, her ego, her fragile temperament. No sharp words, just the calm steadiness of her draft-blooded mother and the magic that flowed through her. The first time she saw the other filly, the very first time their eyes met, it was like she'd been struck with a bolt of golden lightning, lighting her up from the inside out. They became friends as easily as the night turns to day, and when Korra matured into a magnificent young mare with light in her eyes, Kiska knew that her lonely heart belonged to her.

Soulmates. Something that terrified her down to the bones. She had no good experience with love. Her parents' relationship was one of use and abuse and dependency and until Korra, she let no one close... Surely she was just meant to be a loner, but she couldn't hide the way Korra's happiness made her heart feel, floaty and fluttery like butterfly wings. It made it easy to forget her past when Korra begged her to run away with her, to explore the lands, to start a family...

But when a miracle happened, granting the soulmates children of their own, a thing that should've spread joy--all Kiska felt was fear. Fear of failure. Fear of becoming her father, of ruining this relationship because she was a mess. She'd never told her love about her father. Her past was kept under wraps... And one night, as the hazy spring sun began to set behind the line of trees, Korra's head resting against Kiska's neck in quiet solace, Kiska knew that she could keep her secret no longer. It was ripping from her chest like a demon, that darkness that swelled to bursting coming up, up, up.

"Korra... We need to talk," she said, barely managing to keep her voice steady, because it threatened to crack. Korra turned her gentle crimson eyes on her lover and smiled that smile and Kiska's heart began to flutter once more.

Somehow? She knew everything was going to be okay.

Alayna Belrose - The Engaging Lover

User Image

Personality: Enchanting in her exuberance, Alayna is a modern day daredevil. Her charming nature and silver tongue come as a result of careful breeding, but her open, if not straight forward, personality is used as a ploy to draw attention away from her lustful looks towards fellow mares in her youth. To her there is no such thing as a stranger; there are just people who understand and those too ignorant to try. After living the life of a social stain to the Belrose family, she's finally stepped out into the light to claim her lover as her mate, and freely announces it to all that ask. To her parents the relationship is merely that of traveling companions and nothing more. Whenever around them Alayna is no longer afraid to make a point of talking about her love and their fpals; consequences be damned.

Because of her outward brash and even reckless abandonment of self to her emotions, Alayna tends to shoulder more burdens than she's truly capable of dealing with in an effort to ease the load on others. Who knows as to how long she will remain so resolute...?

Background: Born into the illustrious Belrose family, Alayna's life was little more than a political move. While her parents loved her, they immediately intended on mating her off with a stallion from another strong family to sire future connections. It was tradition, and one that had been carried forth with previous daughters.

She met up with Kiska as a filly, who was the daughter of her father's Kalona associate (friend? She was never sure) and fell fast into a crush. Of course friendship naturally came from it, but in a moment of naivete Alayna ruined it all. She had asked if Kiska was to her betrothed, since she knew she was promised to a child of a family friend. Her parents covered her fopa, and separated her from the winged filly at once. She was retrained, and watched more closely than even the servants in the herd. Alayna turned her frustrated emotions into outward displays of reckless abandon; cliff diving, badger fighting, cougar chasing, etc. The more attention the young mare could detract from her sidelong glances at the beauties in the herd, the better her life was.

Still, she had thought never see Kiska again, but fate is merciful to the believers. Her innocent crush came back with the force of a boulder, and took her by force. Alayna missed family functions, even talks to her actual betrothed, just to spend an evening with the other mare. There was so much about Kiska that kept her enthralled; her reserved nature, the almost timid movements she would make, and this secrecy that hide behind a layer of danger.

After a cliff stunt gone wrong, Kiska revealed just how strongly she felt about Alayna and in that instant she knew she would die for this mare. She was in love, a free love that she could shout from the heavens, and never wanted to see it end.

Winning Prompt Response:

Alayna had always been the odd duck out. As one of four baskets born to a family already bursting at the seems with daughters she was surrounded by more elegance than she knew what to do with. It was the Belrose way; primp, preen, mingle with others and strengthen family bonds through a silver tongue. Even the eldest sister whom had run off with the Usdia (a scandal in itself!) was no match for the rumor mill that Alayna brought to life.

It all started with a harmless crush when she was a filly. A family friend had his first foals and out came a spunky young girl. Alayna knew she was to be betrothed, and since her other sisters had been mated off with family friends, she harmlessly asked if this girl was to be hers. All she could remember of the day was her father ushering her away and the words of her mother trying to cover up the social fopa. From that moment forward her parents always had suspicious eyes to watch over Alayna. She was sweet, charming in the way she moved about, but reckless in her crushes. She always fell hard, and fast, but it was never to be. If she so much as spoke a word of it the boulder of her parent's disappointment would crush her. So, she busied herself with daring acts; cliff diving into lakes, chasing down badgers in their dens, etc. Anything to divert their attention from the long glances she would give to a particularly pert backside.

And then Alayna met her. Oh it was almost too good to be true. She had been drawn in by the air of danger surrounding the winged mare, but it was her personality that had Alayna returning day after day. They would spend hours together exploring with her eyes traveling down the intricate markings that stood out so keenly on her mare's form. Hers. It had been so strange then.

One day a jump had gone wrong. They were to have landed on a ledge some odd feet down from the cliff, but each had missed. Her love had the advantage of flight. Alayna did not. When she awoke her leg had been hastily bandaged, and the other was furious. I shouldn't have let you do it! Oh, the passion. It had taken Alayna by surprise. I thought you wouldn't wake up...you were just so still and I thought I lost you.

And as the two looked at each other they knew. Alayna could see that which she had looked for so long in the eyes of her mare, and knew what acceptance felt like. She could give her heart freely to this one, though she did not know it had already been hers for a long time, parents be damned. Her family chose to play it off that Alayna had a travelling companion and nothing more; not a word to tarnish the Belrose reputation.

It didn't matter to her. Now when she fussed over her lover's mane, or cleaned mud from her wings she was finally free to lean close, and whisper, "I love you."

Name: Asli Belrose
Temper: Defiant
Personality:

As a foal: He's attracted to things that are outside of the "norms" of society or that are unexpected. Anything unconventional is right up this guy's alley. Of course he'd never ACT like someone was unconventional or strange. For example, despite the fact that his sister is an usdia he'd never treat her any differently than any other soquili. He doesn't even see that there is anything different about her, or their brother. To Asli they all make perfect sense and has never questioned how his two mothers made them, or why all three of them are so different in their traits.

He doesn't understand any of the strange looks that others throw their way, and does not at all tolerate negative comments thrown his family's way. He has claws and he isn't afraid to brawl if it comes down to it. He's wild at heart and difficult to contain, as he doesn't conform to rules or standards of others.

As an Adult: He's inherited Alayna's free spirit and adventurous tendencies. Shortly after reaching "adulthood" he slipped away from the family unit without a word, off on a grand adventure to see what he might. He feels a small pang of regret that he didn't leave word with someone before leaving, but he wasn't one for tearful goodbyes, and there was certainly going to be tears from someone.

He's grown to understand on some level that their family is very different, and he perhaps most of all. There is some sort of stigma against those with paws, something he didn't really understand. He'd heard the whispered word "skinwalker" before, but he has no idea really what sort of creature that might be. He is sometimes met with fear, where his other family members might only be met with curiosity or disdain. Part of the reason he left home was to explore this part of himself, to see what it meant to be pawed instead of having hooves, and to find out what a skinwalker might be.

He still enjoys to challenge societal norms or tend towards the quirky and strange. He finds those who are different stare less and are a little more accepting to him and his family unit. He is defiant of rules in a lot of cases, though not in anyway that might bring harm to others, at least not on purpose. He still has a good heart and a general desire to be good, if mischievous.

He has a very romantic view of love. Having heard about and seen what his parents did to be together and the subsequent miracle of his and his siblings' birth he believes that love is absolutely sacred. He hopes to one day find the sort of love that would defy all convention or resistance like his mothers' love. He sees having children as an act of miracle, regardless how they came to be, naturally or by the magic of wishing stars. Life is precious, and love is not to be trivialized.
