Marosa had never been inside of the Haunted House.

In truth, he'd needed something to take his mind off of what happened at prom... and what better way than to try to find the hunter that almost took Hadiyya's hand?

Breathing out as he glanced up at the huge monstrosity that was the Haunted House, he felt a shiver run down his spine as he rubbed his arms, wings fluttering faintly behind him. Taking a breath and steeling his nerves, the faerie stepped inside, feeling dizzy the moment he took that step onto the cold floor.

It was strange; everything seemed to be in shades of grey, and Marosa couldn't shake the feeling that he was a little loopy in the head. Had it been the punch?

Pressing a hand against the wall, the gancanagh took a moment to breathe, attempting to clear his head.

Evan never bothered with stealth when he wandered the Haunted House, looking for prey and violent distraction in the name of duty. There was no point, not with the bright white coats that were part of the uniform--and maybe he wanted the monsters to know he was coming.

He wanted the little ones to run away, full of fear at the sound of his heavy footsteps and the anticipation of danger that always lurked here. There was satisfaction in the knowledge that they fled, and if they weren't quick enough to scurry before he caught sight of them, well, they did love a chase.

He wanted the bold ones to come forward so he could tear the courage out of them with the sharp-toothed sword that rested casually over his shoulder, its open mouth waiting to be filled with flesh and Fear so their ears could be equally filled with screams of pain and terror.

No, there really was no maybe about it: this was a reliable hunting ground, and all within it were their prey. Evan strolled through the ever-changing rooms with casual confidence, looking for his next victim.

Stopping where he was, Marosa's fingers curled into his palms as he stared.

According to Hadiyya's description, here was the hunter in all his glory, looking more like the monster than he had ever felt. It was very clear that the hunter was the predator, and Marosa the prey.

The faerie had never felt like that before, and felt a chill run down his spine. It was a foreign feeling.

Breathing out and rolling his shoulders forward, Marosa let his curly hair fall down his back as he crouched, eyes glowing faintly as they caught whatever light that was nearby.

He felt hungry, but he also felt that he couldn't use his abilities. Something was preventing them from being used... but he would fight this jacking hunter for all that he was worth, proving... what? What was there to be proved, if Hadiyya had her hand, and all was well?

Clearing his thoughts, Marosa waited for the Hunter to notice him. He wasn't going to run.

Gir was always quiet--for him--while they were actively on the prowl for something to make their patrol worthwhile, his manic chatter reduced to intent grumbles. Sometimes, they used their shared senses to track down prey that moved a little too noisily or smelled of something beyond the wood and dust of the house.

Other times, the creatures were just standing there as if waiting for them, a gift all but wrapped up and bow-tied. It took the thrill out of the hunt, but the chase was only half the fun. The rest was found in what they did to the prey once it had been caught. If there was no chase, well--they made their own fun.

The thing sitting in the middle of the next room they found themselves in, it didn't look like much of a meal, Gir complained, but, Evan countered, it looked like it might provide a bit of fun.

Evan smiled a little too widely as Gir subsided with a growl of agreement and, almost lazily, swung the sword from his shoulder and started advancing towards the monster.

Marosa stood up when the hunter approached, fingers curling as he attempted to use FEAR... but found himself unable to.

He had noticed the way the other turned, slowly stalking him... yes, this particular one knew what he was doing, and demonstrated that he was not new to this particular kind of battle. The faerie's eyes glanced to the weapon, and then back to the hunter, watching warily as he calculated his move. It would be best to act first, he thought.

A growl rose in his throat before he launched himself forward, aiming a punch right at the other's face.

The faerie had never been a fighter, but there was always somewhere to start. Unfortunately, he hadn't realized just how much he'd bitten off to chew.

Evan let the monster get closer, closer, felt the annoyance of its fist as it brushed across his face and let it put his weapon between itself and him. In a smooth, practiced motion, Evan sliced upwards and out, using the sharp, bone-like ridges lining the top of the blade to swat the monster away like the insect it resembled.

He felt the attack connect--harder than he had thought--but there was no accompanying rush of pleasure of Fear draining from the creature to be absorbed by his weapon. Gir noticed immediately and whined his displeasure, beyond words now that they had begun.

A scream nearly escaped from his throat as Marosa recoiled back, fire crawling on his body and skin, making his whole body feel like it was burning slowly.

Much too slowly.

The feeling he couldn't shake, but his eyes glowed bright as he aimed right for Evan's nose, punching out again with renewed vigor.

Even if he couldn't win this fight, he would definitely attempt to leave as much damage as he could.

The creature's fist did little more than irritate Evan, though he was once more thankful for the Fear shield that kept him from harm--broken noses were a pain in the a**.

He took a step back to give himself some room before thrusting his weapon out and catching the monster's outstretched arm between the sharp teeth of the blade. He turned it enough to tighten on the offending limb, jerking the sword to allow the teeth to rend and tear, before reeling the monster in only to raise a booted foot into its stomach to kick it away.

"No..." Marosa coughed as he was wrenched and kicked away, landing and rolling on the ground with his limbs askew.

Many things went through his head, but the faerie just couldn't find enough strength to fight back. With every hit the hunter had on him, it just took away so much that he was really unable to make a dent, or make the odds even.

There was no jacking way.

Still defiant, Marosa attempted to push himself up, staring at the Hunter with a dark gaze, wings fluttering behind him.

There was nothing to say.

Yes /yes/ yes. It was almost disappointing how easily the creature went down. They hadn't really had a chance to play with it much at all, and there was still so much time left before patrol was over without the guarantee that they would run into anything else to occupy themselves with.

They had to make this last.

Evan took his time walking over to the fallen monster, his wide smile diminishing into a lazy smirk. He put one foot on the back of the creature's neck and stepped down, forcing it back to the floor and pinning it there with his weight. He didn't give a damn about the freak's dirty look; his attention was on the wings that waved behind it like red flags taunting him into further cruelties.

He took a moment to study it, nudging the delicate membranes with the sides of his sword so he could see how they worked. He was careful. He didn't want to tear them. He had other plans for them.

Once his curiosity had been satisfied, he pressed the pointed tip of his weapon against the monster's shoulder. Clothes and flesh parted like water for it as he began exerting pressure--slowly, slowly, they had enough time to drag this out--until it met the hard ridge of bone. Evan frowned and pushed the blade across the monster's back, making a mess of it as he searched for--ah.

Gir's teeth had caught on something that wasn't flesh and wasn't quite bone and simply didn't exist in the anatomy of a real person. Evan tugged experimentally and Gir's teeth held fast. His smile grew once more as he yanked and yanked and yanked with all of his considerable strength.

He felt the base of the wing start to give way from the joint, growing looser and looser with every sharp pull until finally, with a wet, sickening pop, it came free.

Wait.

What was he doing...

No no no no no

Marosa didn't remember if he cried out with each tug, but he did know that tears were streaming down his face, his body washed over with waves and waves of pain, trembling and unable to control it.

He could feel blood pooling from his back to the ground, seeping around his fingers and making him realize that he didn't know he could bleed.

The faerie couldn't even get free, held fast by the boot against his neck, feeling his body spasm.

"N......n...nnnnnnuuurrrrrr..." Was all he could utter through gritted teeth, wanting nothing more than to tear into the hunter, frustrated that he was unable to do anything.

The monster's restraint was almost better than the screaming and begging Evan had torn from the mangled bodies of its peers in the past because it didn't make a difference. They were going to tear this thing apart anyway regardless of the soundtrack it added to its own mutilation. The blood that flowed freely from the hole in the creature's back was a tribute, owed and offered, to those Evan had took this job to avenge; the tears were a balm to his ever-lingering anger. This was more than duty, more, even, than entertainment: this drawn-out torture was ritual.

Still, that didn't mean they didn't thoroughly enjoy this. The last remaining blood vessels connecting the creature's wing to its back snapped as Evan withdrew it. He untangled the bloody stump from Gir's teeth, much to the weapon's vocal displeasure, before carefully laying it to the side.

Time to get the matched set: Evan plunged his blade into the monster's other shoulder with a better idea of where to aim it this time. It took a little less digging around to find the joint of the wing. To make up for it, Evan took his sweet time pulling it out once his sword had found purchase on it. Slowly, slowly, slowly, he pulled up and out. It was fascinating, hearing and feeling the soft snaps and pops as the wing detached from the joint. Even though he was expecting it, the wing came free so suddenly that Evan huffed a laugh in surprise.

The pain was overwhelming. Marosa lay there, head turned to the side to see the wing laid out in a rather meticulous manner. The act was very strange to the faerie until he realized in his pain-wracked body that the hunter was setting them aside for trophies.

Reaching out slowly, Marosa wrapped his shaking fingers around the wing on the ground and clamped down on it, crumpling it and ruining it as he drug it closer, bits and pieces flaking off. The majority of it he could save and salvage... if he made it out of here.

Which he was intending on doing. If... he could manage...

Evan was preoccupied with untangling the other wing without damaging it and didn't notice, at first, the creature moving. The rustling of the delicate wing dragging against the rough wooden floor drew his attention, though, and he frowned. "Ah, ah, ah," he chided, driving his sword into the ground and pinning the monster's arm between it and the teeth of his weapon. "That's ours now." He abruptly twisted the blade and noted the differences between the pop of the torn-off wings and the crack of a breaking arm.
