Whatever Seiji had been expecting from the graduation exam, being assaulted and hog-tied in the middle of the night, and dragged through the halls blindfolded, had not been it. The gnomes had caught him, no doubt by chance, on one of the rare nights he was alone. He'd been in bed, not quite sleeping, but not quite awake either. The ghost had heard them enter, a faint shift of clothing and the soft creak of old hinges, but before he'd had a chance to react they'd been upon him.

Fighting back hadn't seemed to make much of a difference, they had the numbers to match his strength.

He'd cursed them soundly, right up to the moment he'd been released. Swiping and kicking uselessly at empty air as he yanked the blindfold from his eyes and threw it. "Jacking little cowards, what the ********!" If they heard him, if they were even still there, they didn't respond. There was nothing but the vastness of the room he was now kneeling in, and a silence that seemed to echo.

Oh, and a sign.

Seiji stared up at it a moment, unamused and irritable, then rose to his feet with a resigned sort of sigh. "Whelp, let's get this over with." The excitement would come, he imagined, but for the moment all he felt was annoyance and a hard taught sense of dread.

12. Prompt - Who You Wanted to Be
You step into the room. In the blink of an eye, you realize that you are now your childhood dream. What did you want to be when you were a scareling? For those that were suddenly spawned into existence, you are now the first profession you took an interest in. What is it? Are you successful?

Heading into the first room, Seiji didn't know what to expect. He'd meant to ask Junko what the graduation exam was like, but between everything else thy had been planning and dealing with lately, it just hadn't come up. Now he got to head into this thing cold, which he supposed was fair. Most students did, he imagined.

This room was also bare. There wasn't even a banner. Nothing but stone walls and stone floors, and heavy shadows hanging over head where he guessed a ceiling must be, but he couldn't have told by looking at it.

It wasn't the same as he brought his attention down again. Not a room now, but an alley. Seiji blinked, momentarily surprised, before taking in everything around him. There were creeple around him, laughing, jeering. Everyone, himself included, were clothed in black and red. His right hand was grey, the left black, fingertips lengthened into sharpened claws.

There were symbols on the back's of some of the other creeple's clothing. Something Seiji recognized from his time on the streets with Aislin before the banshee had disappeared, and e'd been taken in by his parents. It was a skull with black wings frame it. A mark of a gang that used to rule the bit of town he'd called home. They were tough, ruthless sorts. Unsavory, but loyal to themselves and those that earned their respect. Traffickers and thugs, the lot of them. Even the ghouls that ran with them.

Small, warm hands slid around the ghost's arm, followed by the press of a petite body. "You're so quiet today." Her voice was a nasally thing, clipped, and the boil found the corners of his lips curling up as he pulled his arm from her grip and looped it around her waist to pull her close.

"I'm quiet everyday, just not in private," he growled out, sharp teeth flashing as he lifted her off her feet, claw tips trailing over her thigh.

"You've got work to do Inuoe." The order came from further down the alley, a voice that commanded obedience. Seiji glanced in that direction, features sobering into cool irritation, but he let the ghoul slid from his arm a second later. She wasn't important, not really. A nice body to warm his bed at the end of a long day. What mattered was keeping their territory clean. Chasing out rivals, collecting safety tax, pushing product.

The ghost nodded once, before heading out to do his job.

6. Prompt - What Can't Be Denied
You step into a room. It's a bare, plain room. By the time you reach the middle it warps and shifts, and you are left facing your greatest weakness. What is it and how do you deal with it?

It had only taken Seiji one room to realize what sort of obstacles he would be dealing with in the 'dungeon'. Mind tricks, confronting fears or weaknesses, the exploitation and manipulation of emotions. All things he'd experienced time and again through out the whole of his academic life here at Amity. So, really, this wasn't much a surprise. Which wasn't to say he was happy about it, by any means, but it was not completely unexpected.

He heaved a heavy sigh as he made his way into the next room, already expecting some manner of change, or shift as he walked steadily across the empty floor. It did not take long. The bare walls warped around him, shifting and twisting, before finally reforming much as they'd been a moment before. The sole difference was the appearance of a slight figure standing midway between the ghost and the exit.

He regarded her warily for a moment from a distance, glowing eyes sliding up from the points of her designer heels, over lovely legs and hand crafted couture, and finally came to rest on emerald eyes. "Junko." The figure smiled, lips red as candied apples. He waited for her to speak, but she said nothing, merely stood there, patiently, with hands clasped lightly over her skirt. With a slight frown the boil moved towards her.

It was pointless to ask what she was doing here, because she wasn't really here. This wasn't his Junko, but a fabrication of his mind, set before him.

When he reached her she looked up, rising up on her toes, and the ghost found himself bending to lay a soft kiss on her mouth. Reactive, automatic. She had always effected him like that. Always had him wrapped around her delicate little finger, even if she wasn't aware of it. He would do anything for her, be anything for her, just to see her smile.

The kiss was a brief one, but the ghoul beamed up at him as he straightened, adoration and warmth reflected on lovely features. Then she was stepping aside, inclining her head towards the door. A silent urge for him to continue. They had so many plans, so much they wanted to do, and all of it hinged on him. He just had to get through this, and their life together could begin.

Seiji smiled back at her, touched her cheek with the backs of cool knuckles, then reached for the door, eager to move on wards.

3. Prompt - Forged Anew
You step into a room. Except it now isn't a room anymore. You realize quite quickly that you are now a Hunter's Weapon. What kind of weapon are you? Who is the human you're with? What is your relationship? And oh, look -- your human appears to be fighting against someone you recognize. You don't remember their name. But there's something about them that sparks... something within you. Is it joy? Sadness? Hatred? You... You don't quite know why you're feeling it, but you can't deny the feeling is there.

The next room wasn't a room. Whatever Seiji might have been expecting, this was not it. it was dark, but the floors were old wood, dirty and creaking underfoot. The walls were cracked, fading and grim covered paper peeling and torn. Familiar, but different. Aside from the flicker of antique lamps, the only light came in the form of a soft red glow. Runes.

<Tread lightly, you know what happened the last time you were here. We don't want a repeat,> Seiji drawled, chiding and eager all at once.

I know, I'd rather not spend another week in the infirmary myself. Tanya walked quietly down the hall, senses on high alert. A year into her career on deus, and she was still a trainee, still trying to prove herself, but she was so close now, she could feel it. If she could just find something this time. Some creature more around her skill level. She just needed a chance to prove herself, that was all.

The ghost rumbled, dismissive, encouraging. It was always hard to tell with him. He'd always been aloof, a little on the cold side, in their year together he'd warmed a touch towards the clumsy Moon he'd been paired with.

Tanya's hands tightened around the handle grip of the overlarge tetsubo club. It was heavy still, but over time she'd grown used to it. Now his weight was more a comfort than a burden. Especially here in the dimness of the Haunted house, where his runes offered more light than the lamps on the walls that never seemed to die.

A sound, like a soft tapping, further along but growing closer. Tanya tensed, hefting Seiji up on her shoulder as she held her breath and waited.

When the woman came around the corner the trainee charged, voiced raised in a challenging howl. It startled the pale figure, made them stumble back against a wall with a hand on her chest. She was petite, a little taller than Tanya herself, with long black hair and glowing green eyes that were wide with surprise. Her other hand came up, defensive, and with it a wave of living darkness the trainee didn't immediately recognize as the woman's hair. It shot forward, writhing in the air, before snapping around wrists, ankles, and waist to force the Moon trainee back again. "Stop it! I don't want to fight you!"

Dark fingers her dropped the tetsubo, and the former ghost boil rolled on the floor between either girl. Tanya was shocked, frightened, but Seiji was shocked as well for other reasons.

The sight of monster ghoul--because that was what she was. he couldn't have said how he knew, but he did--had struck like a knife to the core. Pain, sharp and immediate, and utterly baffling.

"Let me go!" Tanya shouted it, trashing angrily against the soft bonds that held her at bay, struggling to pull herself free. "Seiji!" She just had to get her hands on him, then they'd be fine. He was large, heavy, the other girl wouldn't stand a chance!/

"Seiji..?" The hair folding Tanya loosened, pale features registering surprise, shock, before settling on stricken.

The trainee jerked, dropping to hands and feet as she managed to tear herself loose, and she made a grab for the fallen club, hefting it up as she rose into a charge.

<Tanya no!> He blurted, then fell into stunned silence as he partner stumbled, surprised.

What do you mean no? She sounded a little frantic, fear making her voice higher, even in her own mind.

Seiji didn't have a good answer. He faltered, unsure. <I don't know, just don't hurt her.> His voice was borderline miserable, like nothing Tanya had ever heard before. Just the thought, off attacking the ghoul was painful. It tore at him, his entire being rebelling against the very idea. A flash of red, and the club was gone, blinking back into into dark collar resting around his partner's slender throat. She touched it, suddenly fearful, and retreated a step.

What are you doing?!

<I DON'T KNOW! Just don't touch her. I can't-> He made a frustrated noise, retreating back into Tanya's mind. <There's something about her. I can't let you. Just go back.>

Go back? She was all out shrieking at him, voice high with disbelief. He'd never done this before. He'd never cared about anything they'd faced before. He hardly cared about her, and now he was getting all torn up about some monster? What the hell is wrong with ********. Just GO. Go back!>

"God Damnit!" Tanya howled, frustrated, and grabbed for her pendent.

"Wait!" The monster girl had taken a step closer, than another, hands outstretched, but not threatening. "Did you say s-"

"Deus Ex Machina!" Whatever the monster had been about to say was drowned out as Tanya shouted, then disappeared.

11. Prompt - Without Knowing the Name of the Trampled Flowers
As you step into the room, a thick mist arises. It consumes you, leaving you with nothing but a great, vast hunger. The many whispering voices tell you that you are now an Insanity Titan. Where are you now? Halloween, Human World, Deus Ex? Do you fight to control your hunger, or do you let your hunger control you?

Seiji stumbled through the door into the next room, then closed it hard behind him, leaning against it as he fought for calm again. That hadn't been fair, not at all. Why would they ever go to such lengths? Facing their fears was one thing, but that? That was just cruel. Junko's startled expression was seared into his head. The sadness in her eyes, the shock. He shook his head, palms pressing over his eyes to block it out, but it didn't help.

He didn't really notice the mist at first. The temperature seemed to cool, but Seiji's skin was all ways chilled. He didn't notice until he lowered his hands again, and by then it was thick, swirling around him. As it closes in he feels it, that ever present hunger rising up, growing larger than it ever had before.

Home

It's just a whisper, so soft he nearly misses it, but it's not the last. The voices chime in, one after another, until they like a chorus.

Home, they say. Come home.

The ghost lifts his head, red eyes blazing. It's not a room anymore, it's some half familiar shoreline boarding dense jungle. On a hill there's a light house. Further along the dark shadows of large buildings. The ghost, no the titan turns to them, hunger like a stab of pain through his insides.

Home, they whisper. Urgent, eager, and Seiji starts walking.

His shows have melted away, clothing half formed of mist and fading. Beneath, blackness has eaten away at the grey. Claws for feet, longer for hands. He stalks towards his destination with one thought in mind. Not even a thought. What drives him is more primitive. It's closer to impulse, to need. He must feed, he must devour and destroy. His entire being has narrowed down to this one awful purpose.f

There are others now, in white coats. They're streaming from the buildings, flooding into the field that stands between Seiji and the rest of the island. Small, smaller than they should be. Or perhaps he's grown. There isn't enough of him left to wonder, only that awful hunger.

They charge, hundreds of attacks, small bites like a swarm of angry ants. The ghost--the titan--swipes at them, knocking them back and away with a furious howl.

With a snarl he raises one overlarge foot, bringing it down on two poor souls too slow to scramble out from of the way. Another goes flying into the trees with a casual backhand, then another falls as sharp claws open their belly. One after another. They attack, bleeding him, but it only seems to make him madder.

Destroy. Devour. Come home!

7. Prompt - Run.
You step into the next room. Something urges you further into the room, faster and faster until you start running. The walls melt away. You're being chased. Sneak a glance back. Who are they? Why are they after you? What did you do?

He didn't know why he was running, only that he something was urging him forward, on and on, faster and faster until his he felt the strain in his muscles. If he'd had to breath, his lungs would have been burning, his pulse would have been hammering. His body would have been trying, but still he would have run. It was a compulsion, a driving force that he neither saw nor heard, but undeniably felt.

It had started when he'd entered the room. First the barely perceived impulse to move forward, then the slow and steady build up that had set him into a jog, and then into a run. Now he was damn near sprinting.

There was something behind him, he was aware of it now, though he hadn't been a moment before. It was shapeless at first, then he heard the mechanical click, the whirl of gears turning and metal rubbing on metal. The dark wall around him melted away, even as they began to close in on him until he was racing through a rock-walled tunnel that seemed vaguely and strangely familiar to him, though he knew for a fact he had never been anywhere like this.

But the sound from behind was growing louder.

Now he looked back, curiosity and nerve influencing a need to know, even as it slowed his pace.

It was The Cleaner. The spinning, blade laden mechanical nightmare that prowled the rocky tunnels of the oubliette beneath the goblin kingdom. Not in this world, of course, but the world of his favorite movie, of J's favorite movie. The movie that had brought them together, then brought them back together. He rolled his eyes as he turned his attention forward again. "Really?" This place was so weird!

Of course now that he knew what was behind him, he saw the end of the tunnel finally starting to draw nearer. He kept running, even put on a little extra burst of speed as he neared the finally fifty meters, all so he could through himself against, and through, the door before the damn metal beast could reach him. He hit the floor on the other side in a heap as the door slammed just again behind him.

He was beginning to wonder just how many rooms he was going to have to go trough before he reached the end of this thing. The answer came to him as he stepped through the next door. For one, it was round, instead of the square stretch of space the last ones had been. Seiji lingered in the doorway for a long moment, taking stock of the room around him, as as much as he could see of it. Unassuming, at first, but but then the mist started to roll in to lap against his ankles, and from it the sound of metal clanging on rock.

The knight that walked out to face him was both expected, but not. He had assumed there would be a battle at some point, but the nature of his apparent foe was surprising.

The boil leaned, looking around the knight as he came to a halt in front of him, and her could see the exit. More importantly, he could see his diploma sitting on a little stand beside it. All that stood between him and graduation was one large, plate mail wearing knight.

He didn't need the shouted challenge or the javelin clanging into the stone at his feet to know he was going to have to fight his way through this. With a small smirk the boil sank into a ready stance, hands coming up in loose fists. "Aright, let's do this." No preamble, no warnings, no playing around. Seiji charged forward, arm cocked back, , and smashed his fist into the helmet covered head of the knight.

The knight was not a passive obstacle, but an opponent intent on keeping the boil from reaching his destination. The javelin was half a blur as the armored being wielded it, swinging it back the ghost to force him back, and Seiji took a hard hit to the shoulder before he could dart in again to lay another glancing blow against the knight's thick armor.

Another hard swipe lay a cut across the jikininki's cheek, and he jerked back and away, hand coming up to rub at the slash as a heavy, slow line of dark blood rolled down it. "You're not playing around, are you?"

There was't an answer, but then Seiji hadn't actually expected one. Instead he went back on the offensive, this time twisting into a kick to the broad armored chest.

"I'm about done here," Seiji informed the knight as he came in for another sweep of the javelin. "Got things to do." A little cavalier, but the ghost was restless. He'd been restless for months now. itching to reach this point, so he and Junko could stop planning, and start doing.

He dodged a second swing, ducked under the sweep of a gauntlet clad fist, and came in to deliver a strike of his own that seemed to ring louder than any hit before it. Echoing hollowly. The javelin dropped with a loud clatter as the knight rocked back on their feet. There was a pause that seemed to stretch on and on, then an odd shuddering that rattled through the whole of the tall figure. First the gantlets fell, revealing nothing within them. Then, piece by piece, the rest of the armor fell, to clang and crash at the ghosts feet.

The helm rolled cross the floor towards his feet, and the ghost lifted a foot to stop it. Then he was waking past it, going towards the diploma beside the door.
