Half the time now, Efflo forgot he actually had his own dorm room, but on occasion he had to return to it, whether to pick up more clothes (Gabby said he didn't need them, Efflo argued otherwise) or just to make sure his things were still there. The dark stall didn't feel like home anymore, it was too warm, to devoid of treasure and of the dragon that simultaneously infuriated and infatuated him.
With that thought in mind, it was with a skip in his step that Efflo trotted towards the Ghost dorms, his ears perked forward. He'd come a long way from the little first year in tatters, his hair was neatly groomed and pulled into a low ponytail and even his clothes were mostly not moth-eaten, the glowworms haven been glared into submission by a boyfriend tired of his gifts becoming bug-food.
Also gone was the way he paused before Gabby's door, or knocked, waiting to be invited in. Now he stepped in like he owned the place, kicking his boots off by the door and tossing his jacket onto the bed.
"Honey, I'm home," he sing-songed, with just a hint of sarcasm. However, no matter how much sass he had, he couldn't wipe the silly smile of off his face - it was true.

Despite how sure he'd once been that solitude was his greatest companion, Gabby could no longer remember how to live on a day to day basis without the assured presence that everything around him now reminded him of Efflo. His world of blue and ice was never quite real unless there was something green reflecting within; just a gentle nudge or reminder to inform him that yes, he'd integrated another being into his life. He was so wound around the boil, in fact, that when Efflo wasn't in the room, he could sense a very physical loss.
It disturbed him on several intimate levels.
Gabby's eyes, which had been reading the same line in a book over and over for almost an hour and never quite digesting a word, now fell on the jacket that was lobbed over the edge of the bed. They narrowed, and he closed the book with a hard smack, then reached out to pick up the haphazardly hung jacket and fold it properly.
"It took you long enough." Gabby huffed out, his icy voice giving off no hint of the lonely need he'd suffered through while Efflo was gone. "I've almost gone and forgotten all about you."
As if that would ever, ever be possible.
"Who are you, again? And more importantly, did you clean your boots before you dropped them on our floor?"

He cozied up to Gabby, acting coy. Gabby was the only person who ever got to see this side of the boil, everyone else was privy only to a polite quietness or, if they caught him on a bad day, a sullen pout that could rival the cold air Gabby was giving him right now.
Thin fingers curled around the boil's shoulder, Efflo pressing closed while Gabby folded his jacket.
"Are you saying you let strangers in regularly? Strangers that don't know to keep their shoes clean? Gabriel."
He leaned in, giving the lobe of Gabby's ear an affectionate n**. It had taken a long time, but Gabby had eventually managed to hammer some semblance of cleanliness into Efflo's head. The undead wasn't quite as much as stickler as his boilfriend, but at least when he traipsed in it was with less dirt and grass covering him - his clothes managed to almost last, nowadays. Nonetheless, the opportunity to tease his lover never went unnoticed.
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't," he said, letting go of Gabby and flopping down onto the bed, thumbing the blankets. "So pretty... Would be a shame if someone got... Dirty feet on them..."
He grinned at Gabby. |
