Now that he'd decided school was actually worth pursuing, Dekana was doing decently well, all things considered. His current project was an odd one: write a report on Lover's Lane. As far as he knew, it was a place for couples only... to the point where individuals were actively kicked out of the area. He, who was single and not terribly looking, had to go investigate this couples-only retreat. It was rather absurd but his agreement with the professor had been that he'd get extra credit if he complete this report and included photos... of couples in intimate moments.
It seemed rather sketchy but extra credit was extra credit and Dekana didn't want to look a gifthorse in the mouth.
Thus, armed with a camera and a pad of paper, he used the massive lens to focus in on the famous benches. Those had to be the best spots for capturing moments of quietude and romance between couples right? Right. Scanning the walk, he settled on a young pair of lovers gazing romantically into each other's eyes, their hands entwined and rose petals literally wafting by on a cool breeze. An excellent shot.
Too bad it was interrupted and ruined by a minipet that scampered by and jumped on his lens in its effort to get over him. Startled by the interruption, Dekana rolled, attempting to dislodge the small feline with fairy-like wings. What in the world? It had a name tag hung about its neck, somebody he didn't know, and when he tried to move it, it decided he was its one and only shelter in the whole of the world. It positively refused to move from under his arm and snugged in tighter every time he tried to dislodge the stupid thing.
He eventually let it settle and relax a bit, its little trembling body ceasing to shake his camera to the point of unusable photos. Two photos in, the minipet started to tremble and fuss again, instantly and deeply aggravating Dekana. Whoever owned this mini needed to give it some sort of confidence training because by Jack it was a needy, neurotic creature that he postively wanted nothing to do with – it was getting in the way of his extra credit!
When he could stand it no more, Dekana finally just grabbed the creature by the scruff of its neck and hurled into a nearby bush. It was heavier then he expected and it landed in the dirt, scuffling on loose rocks and vegetation before it dashed off into the gloom. It was then that Dekana noticed that he could see his breath and that the temperature had plummeted to freezing levels. Puffing out mist, Dekana shivered and wondered what was going on.
Above, the sky seemed to gloss over, as if the school had been placed under a dome, and the clouds had grown thick and white. A few heartbeats later – and no more then a few minutes between the temperature drop and the onset of precipitation – it began to snow. It fell hard and fast, a thick white sheet of snow that blocked out anything resembling a decent view of Lover's Lane.
Turning to go, his hand slipped on something unexpectedly smooth. When he looked, he found a magazine of somesort where the minipet had landed. Dusting the cover off and trying to shield it from the snow, Dekana's expression went from curious to somewhere between disgusted and horrified. It was a naughty magazine... the centerfold well worn and displaying a nude, seductively posed woman with a really great rack of antlers. Distracted, Dekana tried very hard not to let his mind wander as to the why the magazine was here of all places.
And then a thought occured to him... the ladies were pretty enough... he'd just take this home. There was nothing he could do about the snow right now and he had at least a few decent shots for the professor... time to call it quits.
