There was a simple notice on the boards for a new class. No flashy colors or pictures, only the words in giant bold letters:

"NEW DEFENSE CLASS: 8PM IN THE FORBIDDEN FOREST."

That was all well and good, except for the rule that strictly forbid students from wandering in the forest on their own (despite how frequently the students ignored it). Still, a class was a class, even if it meant a little dangerous walking.

The forest had no clear paths, but someone had tacked up giant red arrows pointing in one direction every yard or so, to lead the way. The forest itself grew darker the further they walked in, but this should have been expected; the Forbidden Forest was named as such for a reason.

The last red arrow led not forward, but up. Following the direction of the arrow exposed a giant, intricate spiderweb several feet up in the air.

The only way to get to it was to climb the trees (or fly, of course). But who would willingly crawl into a spider web? Let alone an entire class? Sure, it looked big enough, but would something that delicate really hold up that much weight?

(Spoiler: It can, and would. The web was unbreakable, and any who try would find themselves disappointed.)

The trick, of course, would be getting up there.

Quote:
Your professor, an assistant teacher and returning alumni, is nowhere to be seen; however it's clear that class will be held on top of the giant spider web. It's big enough and strong enough to hold as many students as we get, and flying students get a distinct advantage (for now) as they can get up there with ease. Otherwise, climb up one of the trees attached to the web, and make yourselves comfortable. It's slightly bouncy, like a hard, unyielding trampoline, and will not break no matter what you do. Though, it doesn't seem smart to vibrate a spider web too much, does it...

(Updates are posted at least once a day, my PMs are always open for questions, and yes, there will be a special gift for participants at the end of this class.. don't miss out!)

Students, Alumni, Horsemen, other teachers/NPCs, and Hunters (in Golems) are all welcome to join this class! The web has room for all! (please note hunters can't get the reward at the end though, but are welcome to come for fun XD)

edit: You're allowed to bring up to two characters but please note only one will be able to receive the reward at the end <3

He shouldn't have been here. Not in this forest, not attending this class and certainly not near the one who would be teaching it. It was really hard to learn lasting life lessons when one was already dead and so dreadfully and avoidably ignorant.

Yuki had been in the forest a few weeks prior, and the particular events that had transpired had left a mark on him both mentally and physically. He'd avoided going near even the treeline like a plague. Until today.

He wanted to know how to defend himself, because he was painfully aware of just how terribly he could take care of himself in confrontation. It couldn't change the past, but it could hopefully keep him safer in the future.

The boil had never really been afraid of insects or spiders or other creepy crawlies. His fear had plentiful appendages of a different sort entirely. Or so he thought. This spider was one he should have feared, but he couldn't have known better.

He'd followed the arrows - when his eyes and ears weren't locked in paranoia on every surrounding sound and rustle of movement - gazing up at the web overhead at the upward gesture of the last. The ghost was actually surprised that he was the first to arrive; even before the Professor so it seemed. So, maybe if he managed to fall out of a tree and hurt himself nobody would be around to laugh at him...

Good thing he was actually not too shabby climbing trees.

Something stalked in the bushes.

A leaf quivered. A dewdrop was dislodged, splattering silently on the roots below. Branches rustled noiselessly, the only mark of it's passing.

That is, except for the loud, bawdy singing.

"JUST A BOIL AND A GHOUL IN A LITTLE CANOE, WITH THE MOON SHINING ALL AROUND~"

Cady marched through the woods with all the grace of a predator, except for of course the way she wildly swung her arms or the fact that her bow legged strides were far less than efficient. She was, after all, an experienced Creeper Scout.

"AS HE GLIDES HIS PADDLE YOU COULDN'T EVEN HEAR A SOUND!"

Defense sounded good to Trisha. As a gate guardian, Trisha should probably learn a thing or two more about that. So she came happily even though the woods were scary and they weren't supposed to be there. but it was a class, surely that meant they were ok.

Even if they weren't she could turn to stone.

But once they got there, it seemed they were supposed to go up the trees and into the web. Climb. up. With hooves. Yeah not happening. Trisha looked up and stared with a sense of longing.

She was wondering how she was going to get up there and instead turned looking around at the other student who were slowly arriving.

"Can I get some help please?" she was big and strong and lifting her own weight wasn't a problem but her hooves were not stable on those branches.

Torsten looked down at the piece of paper guiding him to the forest. The boil looked at the treeline in mild amusement, "Forbidden Forest" ...huh. He expected more. Like a gaping cavern with noises coming out of it or a large tree in the shape of a dragon. Oh well...not everything was like home. He thought to himself as he walked in, his geta crunching the leaves and twigs on the path before him. As the boil walked further in his mind wandered back home. The Forest he remembered playing hide-and-seek in was far more than this. The trees didn't even breathe fire!

He followed the arrows and then blinked at the one pointing up. He slowly looked up. Letting out a soft hum as he did so.

"Doesn't look too bad. Thankfully the trees don't breath fire so there's that small miracle." He muttered a bit loud. He didn't know if anyone else was there. Didn't even seem like the Teacher was. He looked around for the perfect tree to climb.

Uller wasn't going to allow himself to sulk and mope around in his room all the time. He had to come to actual classes... When they struck his interest. What could be more interesting than learning defense? So far he knew offense, how to dodge, but... actual defense was well... Unreachable. Maybe it's why he lost so many battles his first year.

Rubbing his nose with his sleeve, Uller wandered to the forest where he was guided. The darker it grew, the more tense Uller grew and he squinted hard. Okay...

He found the last arrow and then followed it to the spiderweb that was above.

Really?

He looked around at some of the others. None of them he recognized. "Good thing I'm good at climbing," he muttered to himself.

There were a list of reasons he shouldn't have been in the forbidden forest. The most notable being that it was forbidden but that was more of a guideline than an actual rule. At least Titus was pretty sure. Tacking the word forbidden on something was just a way to jazz it and make it sound more exciting than it actually was. It was practically inviting the students to come with the name like that. How could one resist.

Secondly, and it was possible this was the more important reason on the list, he was technically suspended. Sure some time had passed but he had never ventured back to Professor Zephron's office to get un-suspended. He was basically wandering into this class on the hopes and fragile dreams that no one really knew or cared enough to kick him out.

But despite it all there Titus stood in the middle of the forest, staring up at a giant spiderweb as students began to gather one by one and start to climb. His wings twitched and fluttered as he stood lost in thought. Wasn't there a story about something like this in a scareling's book?

Trisha's plea came at the right time, it would seem.

Wrex, who had been excited to traipse the forest regardless of the rule (one which he conveniently kept forgetting), had eagerly wandered around until he found the conglomeration under the giant web. The challenge of climbing was a new one, and one he was more than happy to meet.

And after all, helping was good right? And maybe being nice would mean treats.

So it was that the poor ghoul was snatched in passing, half in his arms and half in his jaws (maybe partially on his skull or the sharp spikes on his tail). Reaching a tree with plenty of branches, he bunched up the muscles in his legs and straight up leapt towards one, scrambling his red class against the bark as he forced them both up little by little.

Wrex grinned at his catch, waiting for praise. And probably some help. She was kinda heavier than expected...and probably knew how to use arms for real...

Trisha was rather startled when she was snatched up. When she asked for help she had expected a hand, just something to help her keep sturdy as she climbed up. She was not at all a light ghoul after all. But either way she was very pleased once they reached the top.

"Thank you! I'm Trisha." From a secret pocket Trisha produced a handful of ribbons along with a back containing sugar cubes and jerky bits. She sorted out a red ribbon from the pile. "Would you like a ribbon?"

She settled herself on the spider web, thankful that today she was wearing shorts underneath her skirt.

You are fine. Feel free to request a treat, Trisha shares.

While some of the students were making their way up the tree towards the location of their class, a female vampire ghoul, or what looked like one at least, stared up at the large hanging web in what could only be described as pure terror. She may of been a easy seven foot tall, but her form was hunched to make her look even smaller, legs shaking and giving the appearance she would collapse at any given moment. If any student so much as looked her way she would squeak and do her best to hide behind the large trunk, meanwhile cursing his luck for the millionth time at being put into a female golem again. And he was undead no less!

At least he didn't have any rotting limbs, he thought to himself as a hand absently strayed to her new set of elongated fangs.

It was when he stared up the tree in a panic that Jason saw the form of a very familiar guy, and nearly passed out from shock. Was that...N-no he couldn't possibly be the same guy from his dream...But it looked just like him!

He was thankful for the lack of high heels in this form as he began his ascent into the web, but he was not happy about the fact he was wearing a miniskirt.

Damien was hanging upside down in the web. With his arms crossed and chewing on his bacon bracelet quite calmly, considering the odd position. The flyer about defense sounded promising, defense was a good thing considering all the craziness that happened through the years. With not too many classes left he could take, the hound was not going to pass up anything that could be vital.

Climbing the tree was easy, landing in the web upside down was accidental, but waiting, that was hard. Why a spiderweb of all things? he was not going to answer the concept of a defensive class involving a spiderweb. "Anyone brought snacks?"

His hug senses were tingling with the feeling of NOPE.

Mellow swore Amityville was the weirdest school he would ever have attended. Forest, yes, he loved forest but didn't they see the word "forbidden" there?! The demon was not allowed to skip classes anymore, two years passed and he was still first year was too suspicious not to doubt. What's more, the spies that his mother sent, thinking of that, he looked around while walking into the forest.

The bright red big arrows were sure what he should follow, at least it wasn't somewhat "follow the spiders" and ended up in a trap thing. "Are you kidding....?" He muttered, stared at the last one while a table was flipped in his mind space already even he looked so coldly calm.

He looked skyward and saw some creeple on the giant web and sighed. It seemed that it wasn't a joke, he merely hoped the teacher's gender would be male. He paid hard to no gods particularly. After last experience at Miasma Village, he fully understood he can't climb a jacking tree. Thus he cheated.

Peeking around to make sure no one was watching, the boil turned into a miniature pony in tea green. It didn't have wings and it was small, but it could float. The tree wasn't as tall as the mountain last time so he could do it. Slowly upward, the pony moved in progress as the others used their ways to climb up. It was so relaxed, cozy as it raised up slowly, the views were great.

The pony touched the web filament with one hoof, he was glad it wasn't sticky and didn't look like a trap at all. It landed gingerly still and when nobody was looking at his way, the pony mistified and reformed, a boil was there instead.

AJ seldom skip classes, it was another great chance for entertainment and excitement for him. He was extremely delightful for the legit reason to enter the Forbidden Forest. He arrived much earlier and loitered around the dark forest that the warm pumpkin sunlight all blocked by the dense canopy of tree crowns.

Thirty minutes before the class started, they followed the red arrows they noticed since the entrance while sharing some modified spookies with the tail head. The sky was getting dark but it wasn't scary. "Ah, a spiderweb. Who's that creative? A new teacher?" He smirked, talked to himself.

Watching a winged student flew up easily with a cold expression, his hands partially switched into draconic claws. He learned to control his shapeshifting ability better, the claws dug into the barks as he hopped up, it felt like running on a horizontal plane. Not taking long, he landed on the intricate web with a few of mild bounces gracefully. He used to climb things a lot, to dodge and trick his enemies, like a parkour practitioner.

He walked towards other students with a gentle smile, "Class hasn't started yet? Anyone see the teacher?" Sweet sugary scents wafted slowly from his side.

Aisha always liked to try something new so the idea of going into the forbidden forest was definitely interesting. The zombie-ghoul watch the students gather, some better than others at finding their way up to the giant web, but she like a lot of others would be grounded until something else happened. As always, a headphone cord led from her hoodie pocket to her hood and the sound of muffled techno disrupted the quiet.

In the dark her orange eyes were especially vivid and flickered light across her skull facepaint. She looked at the web, then looked at the students, then her face scrunched and she looked at the web again.

Aisha turned the volume down on her eyePod just enough to rock on her heels and address the person closest to where she stood and stared, "Not sure I wanna just climb into that.."

As things currently stood, Rojo's idea of defense was to stand still and absorb whatever an opponent threw at him, which wasn't very strategic at all. But that wasn't why he was here, not anymore. Once the calaca had seen where their class was to be held, he knew he had to stay, if only so that he might have an excuse to walk around on that fantastic web.

Already quite skilled at tree climbing, it wasn't long before a petite, naked skeleton was bouncing across the expanse of springy filaments, letting out a soft screech every time he got good air.
