Persephone kept quiet, and let Venus do her thing. She turned her head only slightly towards Adonis and whispered, "Are you sure you want to return to that?"

Keeping her composure and internally chuckling at the reaction of a jealous spoiled brat who didn't get her way, the Goddess of the Underworld waved her hand towards her Furies in a gesture to follow. She tipped her head and winked at Venus before her body turned to liquid shadow and joined the writhing mass of darkness for whence she came. And with that, she was gone, having let Adonis return to the island with his wounds healed.

This wasn't over.

Harmonia watched Persephone wink out and for a moment wondered if she was adopted. With one dismissive look to Adonis she stared searching the crowd for signs of further trouble. Usually her mother came in and things tended to fix themselves but one couldn't be too sure, not yet.

Eris wouldn't likely be back after what just happened, and now that thing returns. On one had it meant Mother should be getting back to normal in time. Seeing Venus so upset had broken her heart more than anything in her own past. At least once mother forgives the idiot who doesn't deserve it.

Glancing once more at the severed wing, it felt like a touch of karma. After everything her wonderful sister endured, would she see the wing the same? It wouldn't stop Eris but it was a nice visual to those that were hurt.

Lots of stuff had happened while he was chillin' down in the underworld it seemed... Wait, he died right? Oh wow, he forgot about that.... well not that he could exactly remember being dead. He was..... dead after all, no thoughts coursing through that flex beast of a brain then! But he remembered trying to get to Venus.... and then darkness... and then that Persephone Babe...

Wiping a grin from his face, Adonis stood erect, watching the goings on.

Adonis smiled at Venus as she slunk closer, flexing a bicep for her before winking. "I am most sorry my love! It was not my intention!" he said, rotating his shoulders as if trying to fix a pain in his back. Arrows did hurt ya know!

He then turned to glance at Persephone as she whispered to him. He smirked her direction, gave her a wink before she poofed before turning back towards the crowed. "Sorry to have alarmed everyone!" he spoke, then dropped to a mighty fine flex, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly as he let his muscles relaxed. He scanned the crowed, waving at familiar faces before pausing to blow a kiss to the lovely Harmonia and toss a bro wave towards Himeros before stopping, eyes wide as if he came to a sudden realization.

"I need a bath..." he said to no one in particular, glancing down at himself before shrugging and running his hand through his golden locks.

Shansa took a protective stance in front of her niece when Eris appeared and started to attack her siblings with shadows. Suddenly Artemis came in with her bow drawn. The younger Grace had no idea what was happening anymore but the goddess was clearly on the hunt for something. She relaxed a bit as Artemis' arrow hit Eris' wing and the goddess of chaos vanished. Hopefully things would be a little less chaotic now and perhaps they could start focusing on finding her fathers killer again.

It seemed fate would not let the chaos simply vanish as a young figure emerged from the shadows. Artemis was guilty of murder? The grace iof praise nibbled her lip nervously as she watched the scene unfold. She watched as more figures appeared from the shadow and the leader of the group talked to her mother before opening a portal of darkness which spat out Adonis.

Shansa's eyes widened as her mind began to register that the god of beauty was standing in front of her very much alive. "Father!" Was it really him, or was this some sort of illusion. He had been murdered after all. She almost didn't want to believe it was him, in case this was some sort of cruel trick. When her father finally spoke she felt tears starting to slide down her face.

Haku was having severe issues. There were chunks of time missing from his memory, angry goddesses, and a very large blue jay trying to steal his little cactus. It was becoming trying to hold his temper in.

Resisting the urge to bite the big owl's fingers, he settled for a sneer. "Um. Have you not noticed the goddesses?" He said with a point. Right as Persephone and her crew vanished. Oh that was just typical...

Turning back toward the overgrown seagull, he shook his head. "Oh no. No. No. NO!" This time he gave in and stamped his hoove. "You've got to be nuts if you think I would willingly return to that madhouse!!"

Pelagious stood stock still, watching the drama unfold. This was almost better than a soap opera now that the giant white pony had quit trying to kill people.

He watched as the dead guy suddenly reappeared and his jaw dropped. Damn Gods. Lucky b*****d didn't even have a scratch on him. And was appearently too stupid to notice how lucky he was...

Pelagious rolled his eyes as the crowd of dieties slowly vanished. This was too much drama. Turning around, he scanned the crowd looking for his partner and slowly picking things up. Ignoring the golden harpies insistance that things were fine(cause obviously the pink one was not happy about her hubbys return), he hummed softly as he tidied.

Venus laughed to herself. She totally won that match. Silly haters. The goddess was tired now, though. Too much drama and not even centered on her. What a waste! "Now, Arty, if you and Eris are done destroying my banquet hall and trying to murder all of my guests, I think I'll go have a nap. You're welcome to join me though, darling. Plenty of room in my bed, "she purred with a wink.

She smiled graciously at Adonis with a fire simmering in her eyes. "Yes, you do. A lot of them, dearie."

As she swept out of the hall, she stooped briefly to pluck one of the discarded arrows. She may or may not have kicked the wing a second time, but she would admit nothing.

Tisiphone grated her teeth when she wasn't only halted by the arrow pinning her whip, but her own mistress' words. How could she? She herself knew well that this was what Tisiphone's very being was all about. This is what her inner being cried out for- vengeance. She couldn't just simply let it go! On the other hand, she couldn't disobey her mistress. She sighed heavily, attempting to push down the need to carry out her plot. She let go of her whip, and with a wave her hand it simply vanished in a puff of darkness. She would no longer require it.

Instead, she locked on her target's eyes through the unfolding events. She paid them no attention- not carrying about the pink figure or her own mistress' conversation. Instead she was puzzling over the Goddess of the Hunt's look. Did she really not understand what was going on? There was something about the look that rang true to Tisiphone. The female truly did not understand what Tisiphone had called her out on. She looked around for a moment trying to figure out how she'd present the female's charges.

Her eyes landed on a seeing glass another female was carrying with her. Tisiphone walked up to her, eyes cut into slits daring her to argue as she snatched it from the other's hands. She said nothing to the other, but instead made her way back over to Artemis without a hint of fear even after her display of strength. She shoved the looking glass at the other, “If you have questions, look again. My sisters and I have seen and so will you.” She took an unwilling step back, fingers twitching. It was taking everything in her being to keep from enacting justice.

With no other words she wished to speak she turned away from the Goddess and the group. She stalked her way back towards the shadows that had first produced her and slowly they reached out to her. As her flesh met them they slowly drew her in before she was completely consumed in them and gone from sight.

Artemis was no less shocked than the rest when Adonis emerged from the shadows, seemingly unharmed and definitely alive. But...that wasn't possible! They'd examined the body..he'd been dead...hadn't he? Granted, she had been gone on her hunt by the time the others had made the funeral arrangements, but...surely they'd not missed something so obvious. He must have been dead...but then, the body had disappeared...

The huntress goddess wasn't familiar with this new arrival and her attendants, though clearly she wielded respectable power of her own. What exactly had happened here? Clearly she had something to do with Adonis' reappearance...though Artemis noticed, for all the fuss and commotion in gathering all these Pae to solve his 'murder', very few seemed to be expressing any sort of joy at his return.

Not even Venus.

Odd.

Tisiphone's continued glares distracted Artemis at least from hearing some of Venus' closing remarks; probably fortunate given her current mood. Instead, it seemed that everyone was going their own way without answering any of the open questions that remained. Personally, she wanted some answers before going. She had finally lowered her weapon as the teen had dissolved hers. As the mirror was thrust in her direction, she narrowed her eyes in answer, yet took it. "I do have questions. You accuse me of murder, child. Why?"

Curiosity allowed her gaze to flick towards the mirror where she saw movement, images stirring from the depths. Venus' girls could do this, could they not? Could this one do so as well, or was this a property of the magic mirrors Venus and her retinue possessed? Perhaps the latter, though if she recalled, the younger Graces had already attempted this with little success due to the mystic purple fog that always seemed to block certain scenes from view.

Of course, now that all seemed to click into place. Eris. Of course.

It seemed that now that the Chaos Goddess was chased back into hiding to nurse her wounds, she was little concerned with blocking magic mirrors from viewing events now. The mirror showed a darkened hallway, and after a moment, a very recognizable shape, long and lithe, decorated with feathers. The Naga Empress.

Artemis recognized this now; the night of Venus' celebration of purging the beasts from her temple. The night those same creatures escaped and her hunt had begun. Puzzled, the huntress frowned at the mirror. "You accuse me of murder...but pursuing these beasts is no act of murder. It is a hunt and noth--" She looked up and realized Tisiphone had already disappeared into the shadows once more. She could still be there listening, but somehow Artemis doubted that. The look in her eyes had said she was leaving before she took rash action. Likely a smart move on her part, considering.

She turned her eyes back to the mirror, watching closely, trying to discern exactly what it was she was supposed to see here. She remembered...she left the dungeon in pursuit of the escaped Naga. She tracked them through the temple...most had escaped and she would hunt those down later, but at least one had stayed, she knew that. She pursued the hooded Empress through the halls, intent on catching her before she could either escape, or do harm to the mortals gathered in the grand hall.

Artemis' eyes narrowed in recognition as these events began to play out on the mirror. The Empress slithered into view, holding a tiny bow with several arrows as well. This must be before I caught up with her. From the shadows, she drew and fired at something just out of view, causing Artemis to frown in puzzlement. Shortly after, she saw herself appear on the scene. Yes...she remembered this...but something wasn't right. No...wait, this...this wasn't how it happened...

She remembered finding the Empress and another smaller male Naga in the hall...she even remembered her train of thought at the time...take out the smaller one, then continue pursuit after the Empress. The Empress fled as she remembered, and Artemis saw herself in the mirror drawing and firing, but not at a Naga as she remembered...

The God of Desire fell to the floor and the huntress continued to watch in horrified fascination as she watched her reflection continue on her driven path, resettling her quiver of mixed arrows at her back, glancing behind for a moment, then continuing the pursuit of the Empress. In that brief glance backwards, the Goddess caught sight of a small detail that explained the discrepancy of what she remembered versus what she'd just seen. Given the events that unfolded tonight, she had the evidence to put it together.

When her reflection glanced backwards, instead of emerald, her eyes had been glowing purple.

With carefully controlled rage, Artemis lowered the mirror and moved to set it on a nearby table where someone would surely retrieve it later. For now, her jaw set tightly, she turned and marched over towards Eris' wing where she crouched to examine it thoroughly.

She had been used. Manipulated. She had done things without realizing...behaved as if a puppet belonging to another. The rage was palpable, a heated fire churning within her stomach...controllable for now, but it would not be denied indefinitely.

Forget the Naga for now. She had new prey to hunt.

Most of what was happening became drown out by the screams and wicked cackles in her own head. When Aglaia saw that first feather float in front of her face she lost it. The world went dark and all she could feel was rage and burning pain on her back. The shrill screeches of Eris' laughter and her terrifying face flashed in and out of her mind's eye. She heard Pothos' screams beside her, but there was nothing she could do. That wasn't real. Is this real? Pothos ... This isn't real.

I CAN'T SAVE YOU! She cried out, but the voice would not go past her trembling lips.

But then, holy mother Venus the most glorious sound echoed through the halls and off the mountain tops. The wounded Goddess of Beauty opened her eyes to a bright and shining light. This moment she had dreamed of. She'd imagined it every day for the last two years. It was almost as glorious as she'd imagined. The only detail that would have made it better is if she'd shot the arrow herself.

A slow-motion shower of silver light sparks ignited like fireworks around the Goddess of Discord, illuminating the sky only for a split second of time before she screamed in pain. This brought enormous satisfaction to Aglaia's damaged psyche. "SEE HOW IT FEELS, WITCH!!!" She started crying and writhing, scrambling to get to her feet and stabilize while Eris was weakened. This would be her only chance.

Eris fled faster than Artemis had shot her, but not without leaving a little something behind. Angry at Eris' cowardice, Aglaia grit her teeth and clenched her first. She was vindicated, yes, but her fight had been renewed. She wanted a piece of that ---

Aglaia stopped, a small silver spark catching her attention as the delicate purple wing of Eris, Goddess of Discord, slowly spun around in the air as it came to land gently on the rubble. It wasn't destroyed! She tried to run, tripping over herself -- unbecoming of a Grace -- trying to get to the detached wing.

The wing was right there, just within reach when the shadows started doing things shadows aren't supposed to do. A fleeting pang of fear gripped her heart and her mind froze. No, she was just injured. No. No this isn't her. Aglaia fought the memories and the pain. The sudden feeling of the world lifting off of her chest when she realized that Eris wasn't a threat was remarkable. She inhaled deeply, exhaling slowly to savor that sweet, sweet air of relief.

She was so trapped in her own head and her own experiences, she wasn't paying attention to most of what else was happening. When she finally snapped to, another Goddess was addressing Mother. And what were these minions? She'd never seen them before. And then ... Adonis. Adonis. Oh no!!!! She kept a careful eye on her mother when Adonis suddenly appeared. She swallowed back a lump of guilt, and stayed very still. Maybe if she was out of sight, she was out of mind too.

Venus' behavior was a little startling. The fact that she was more worried about insulting the stranger than welcoming Adonis was telling. But then, it could have been for Ares' benefit as he had been looming over the group silently.

----

"Momma!" Aliza stopped everything and ran to her mother's side. Even if she wanted to rip that ugly new girl a new one for taking her mirror, her mother came first. She'd never witnessed this type of energy from the timid goddess before. "Aglaia-- Momma, are you ok?" She put her hand on Aglaia's shoulder squeezing gently.

Pothos wasn't in his right mind anymore. The minute Eris appeared he had dropped to the floor, crouched and clutching his knees tightly into his chest. Anything to fight her off, keep her away, keep her damn voice out of his mind!"

He mumbled to himself, most of it incomprehensible, some of it more stuttered no's and why's and please please please please over and over and over again. Every now and then Aglaia's name slipped past his lips followed by several sorry's. His fingers dug tightly into his black curls and he was just about gone from the world when the bright silver flash startled him out of the hole he had dug himself in.

He glanced up just in time to see the purple wing flutter to the floor, the rest of Eris's screams slowly dying as it stopped echoing around the temple. His eyes went wide, tears still spilling from them as he watched the wing fall to the ground in what felt like the slowest amount of time possible. Teeth chattering, he brought his hands down to his lips, a mix of emotions surging through him. Aglaia's shouted taunt only barely registered as he watched her stumble as quickly as she could towards the wing. He didn't even register Adonis was back, or the shadowed weird teens and the other Goddess that had just slipped away.

His mind was quite broken and relieved all at the same time. Happiness bubbled around in him that Artemis's arrow had found its target, or at least part of the target. A slight wish that the Goddess of Hunt had struck her between the eyes lingered for a few seconds before giving way to another thought. A more panicked thought.

Oh no. Now what would Eris do?!! She'd seek revenge, she always did, and Pothos feared Aglaia and He would bear the brunt of some of it if not Artemis herself.

Slinking to the floor, Pothos kind of went down like a wet noodle, face first before scrunching up most awkwardly into a fetal position like a dying spider, once again clutching his knees to his chest. Eyes wide. Rocking.

The Explanation

So, here's what really happened...

While Venus hosted the celebration in the ball room and watched over her guests, Adonis took his leave to go freshen up. All that flexing takes maintenance, you know.

Meanwhile, the captive Naga Empress in the lower level of the temple made her move. Disposing of the cherub guard, she took his bow and arrows and made her way through the rest of the dungeon to free her mate and children. After facing defeat before, the first order for the Naga was to escape the temple to regroup and figure out how to move forward...but the Empress wasn't done yet. Splitting off from her family, she remained in the temple, unwilling to leave without some sort of retribution for her humiliation.

After one of the cherub guard failed to report in at the end of his shift, the missing Naga were discovered. The Goddess of the Hunt, Artemis, was notified of the escape, who in turn notified her sister, Venus. She would take care of the disturbance and hunt down the escaped prisoners while the Goddess of Love would remain to watch over the mortal guests, behaving as if nothing were the matter.

Artemis returned to the catacombs to begin tracking her quarry from the source. Separated from outside influence, the huntress was a prime target for the enraged Eris. The Goddess of Chaos was furious that her earlier plan to bolster the Naga forces with dark abilities had failed; she would need to find a new way to lash out at Venus. While biding her time, the perfect opportunity presented itself. If she could manage to control the Goddess of the Hunt, fully armed, and send her back upstairs as her agent, right into the party under Venus' nose...

Eris' control needed to be subtle, as brute force would not work on the shrewd huntress. She would fight any attempt to control her actions directly. But, something more subtle, to influence her actions? Ah, that might work...and all it would take would be a bit of illusion magic...

Already on the hunt for Naga, Artemis' senses were influenced by Eris' control, causing her to see the snakes she was pursuing, even when there were none there. Or even if what she was seeing was not in fact a real Naga. Unaware, she tracked the Naga from the dungeon up to the halls outside the main ballroom.

Empress Nadira had nearly found the ballroom as well. Using some of the neuro-toxic venom she secreted, she coated each of the cherub arrows with the substance. The arrows themselves wouldn't do nearly enough damage, as far as she was concerned, and she much preferred the effect of her venom. This would give her a much longer range, however, for her to hit a target with the paralytic. If she was quick and accurate, perhaps she could get some of those damned deity with a quick volley into the celebration before she made her tactical retreat. Rounding a corner, she saw opportunity too tempting to resist. One of those accursed deity, oblivious on his way to the dance hall. She drew and fired, sinking an arrow into the perfectly sculpted rear of the God, Adonis.

The sound of hooves on marble alerted the Naga Empress to Artemis' appearance. The hooved Goddess glared, drawing and preparing to fire. The Empress was in her sights, but preparing to flee. She darted out of sight, leaving behind what Artemis saw as a smaller male Naga. No time for proper disposal, she fired a volley into the creature's back and with no more regard for the smaller male, took off after the Empress. What she had seen as a Naga was actually Adonis, who managed to drag himself to Venus' side before succumbing to the damage the arrows had caused.

Unaware of what she had done, Artemis was consumed by the hunt for the Naga until she finally found herself back at Venus' Temple. All the clues pointed back here, though she couldn't figure out why the snakes would dare come back now. She had no idea that the deity and mortals were working together to solve the mystery of what had happened to Adonis that fateful night; she only knew that she was being led here and intended to end this hunt once and for all.

Instead, she was nearly tricked into attacking a crowd full of mortals, thanks to Eris' deception. Realizing something was very wrong with this situation, Artemis managed to break through Eris' influence and turn her weapon on the one responsible for all the trouble from the start. Not willing to face the Goddess of the Hunt directly, Eris took the sacrifice of her wing as the price to escape.

A new surprise followed shortly after when a new Goddess and her entourage arrived, shortly followed by the very-much alive, Adonis. The Goddess of the Underworld, Persephone, had been the one to steal Adonis' body from the funeral altar. When his spirit arrived in her domain, Avernus, there was little she could do to save him...without a vessel for that spirit to return to. By reuniting the two, Adonis was saved and for a while, she had entertained him within her domain. Sadly, circumstances meant that Adonis must go eventually, at least for now, and would return to Venus. Adonis delivered safely home, Persephone returned home to Avernus.

Oh, and those lash marks on Adonis' legs? Seems his infidelity ticked off more than his fiance, Venus. One engaged to be married who has relations with another earns the wrath of a certain Fury of Vengeance...

The Prizes

We had a ton of people surprise us in different ways! We know we promised just two prizes, but there were others who did awesome jobs that we just had to showcase. We will start with some RP and detective skill prizes before moving onto our grand finale!

Dai & Shadi

We cannot express how blown away we were by this pair's answer. We could really tell all of the mind work that went into this detailed and complex story they spun us. For your detective skills we want to reward you guys with a dip in the Prize Pot! Head on over there and let us know which Pae you want! First come, first serve. Feel free to post your preference in the thread.

This is another answer we were shocked to read! It was so scarily close to the scenario we had planned that we thought someone was reading our minds! We would also like you to have a chance to pick a Prize Pot Pae! First come, first serve. Feel free to post your preference in the thread.

Now on to the Grand Prizes for this RP Contest!

User Image User Image

We want to congratulate DaemonGabrielle & Fea Line for not only their correct answers, but their dedication to the event that won them the grand prize! Thank you to both of you for sticking it through and having a good time while at it. You both were entertaining, and we're happy to present you your prizes!

Be sure to read the instructions on the Furies thoroughly and have it ingrained into your memory! Only Furies who are RPed and RPed appropriately will make it to adulthood with their full powers. A player will be corrected only so many times before a title will be removed from them. Otherwise, your Furies will grow up to be... what they're called to be.

~~~~~~~~~~
The Furies
Rather like the retinue of the Goddess of Love, the furies are attendants of Persephone, Goddess of Death and Queen of the underworld Avernus. Whereas the Erotes fixate on the spread of love, the furies are the dolers of justice and avatars of vengeance. They are colder, harder than the almost cherubic Erotes. The Furies are cruel and merciless, but not evil. They are embodiments of justice and will do whatever is necessary to fulfill this purpose. Avernus lacks a lot of the hedonism of Dolandor; thereby, the furies tend to be more serious and goal oriented. They treat their compulsion as a mission and will focus wholeheartedly on their mission to the point of exhaustion.
Furies have snakes growing from their heads that are alive and do bite. The relationship between fury and her snakes varies by fury. Some treat their hair like pets; some treat them like pests. They carry over the snake slit eyes and have the elongated ears natural to the denizens of the underworld. Their weapon of choice is a whip which they use to lash those who become their targets through misdeeds. Like their mistress Persephone, furies travel through shadow portals. Each fury also has a focus, a specific sin that they are compelled to punish.
Tisiphone - Persephone's First in Command
--Embodies: Vengeful Destruction
--Focus: Murder
--Power: Pain Inducement
Alecto
--Embodies: Unceasing Anger
--Focus: Crimes of Passion
--Power: Fear Inducement
Maegara
--Embodies: Grudging Jealousy
--Focus: Unfaithful Lovers/Partners
--Power: Despair Inducement
Power explanation:
If somepae summons one of the sisters in order to bring justice of one of these crimes, the appropriate sister will answer. Once she has found the Pae in question she will peer into their eyes, the pathway to their soul, and if found guilty will induce their torment. The emotions stated above will rise up in the guilty one and afflict them till eye contact is broken. Once broken, the effect leaves the guilty emotionally exhausted and drained- like their psyche has been scared. A memorable scar for such a distasteful crime. Be careful, however; if the summoner has a guilty soul, he too will suffer the wrath of the fury upon her appearance.
Some rules for playing furies:
  • The gods and goddess are more powerful even than adult furies.
  • Their jobs are first to serve Persephone and then to mete out justice. Her orders supersede any of their natural instincts.
  • A fury's portal jumping through shadows only works when shadows exist and are large enough for them to fit.
  • They cannot murder, only punish.
  • Punishment can be mental or physical.
  • This is obviously not to be abused. Any acting out of the above in RP would need to be okay with both RPing parties.
  • There are limits. Physical limits depending on the situation. Mental limits depending on the fury and/or situation. No OP. No controlling anyone else's pae. Standard RP rules apply.
  • When in doubt, consult a staff member.
  • Furies will always start as teens and require RP to become adults at full power.
  • They will always be female and follow the breeding rules of the shop. Most furies have no maternal instincts, however, and very few in any choose to become mothers.
  • Furies will be called upon on occasion to participate in Meta RP and/or events. Please stick around. We love you. 8D
