That soft squishy face puffed cheek look made it nearly impossible for him not to bust out in laughter. It was a mix between something incredibly cute and funny. Pushing that aside for the moment, he nodded, "Sounds like a plan to me. I could use some training myself, been so long I think I might be getting rusty. Gotta shake that stuff off." Nakicho would arrive finally his fluffed collar in a mess and panting heavily. The other sword he had was now missing, shed in an attempt to keep up with Hotaru. Keeping up with the girl has always been difficult back in the academy she'd be one place then another. The speed release was indeed an impressive one. The man's sword would glow in it's sheathe a dim purple as lines of exhaustion were displayed. "Ha..ha..ah..ha darling. Still have a lot of spring in yours step I see." Seeing the obstacle course laid out before him Nakicho suddenly stood straight and disguised his panting whilst he wiped away the sweat on his brow, then finally readjusted his collar. All executed in a brisk manner. The sword would produce sparkles once more in the man excitement. "A race he thought..." Hotaru was a fast one. It appeared Nakicho was already at a disadvantage. "Ahahaha. You might have beaten me here and several times in the past my darling soot covered sprite but this time the victory will be mine but as chivalry dictates ladies first." He gave Hotaru a firm competitive nod along with the supervisor of the event.

"Spring to my step? Nah, you're just a bit slow. I walked all the way here." Hotaru said, in a teasing manner. She was definitely fast, but he could have kept pace if he hadn't been ogling his sword so much. At his request to let Hotaru go first, she smiled. "Ah how thoughtful of you, oh brave knight. Thou shalt not be displeased." Hotaru giggled, then gave the supervisor a small wave to let him know they were going to compete.

After taking off all of her valuables (Goggles, Tool bag, Hammer) and setting them off to the side, Hotaru would step up some stairs to the first obstacle. This course would test her to see if she could keep up with Nakicho. While she was definitely quicker she knew that she would probably fail, as difficult terrain was not her strong suit. Upon walking onto the first rotating cylinder, she would find it hard to balance. Letting her fears take a hold of her, she fell into the abyss below, a soft cushion. Upon standing back up she found it difficult to get back on top of them, due to her size. Grumbling she would return to Nachiko. "Your turn, tall stuff." She would rub the back of her neck, still sore from the fall she toook to the dreaded fluff below.

"Ahahaha. I only give credit where credit is due my flower of the forge." The man formed struck a pose as he sparkled in the festivals light with the sand blowing gilden dust pointing with all his fingers at the obstacle as if it were a foe. The man refused to shed his equipment as he watched Hotaru lighten her load. This would most likely prove to be...a hindrance later if not now. He watched Hotaru then after place her foot on the obstacle only to have been caught by it's sudden shift. "What a turn it shall be!" The man then leaped forward with arms like an eagle and just as much majesty.

The majesty of an eagle with clipped wings that is. The weight on his back proved to be...just a bit much. As was expected. Nakicho would land perfectly as he gave a smile to a non existent audience. This of course before flailing his arms like a beheaded chicken."I refuse! This is not he least bit elegant!" Nakicho thrusted himself from the first spinning trial using it's momentum to move him forward into the second. Unfortunately he was now caught between the two spinning obstacles like some form of bridge. A bead of sweat before he fell face first into the fluff below in front of Hotaru his entire front half sunk into the fluff. "A fimple miff calfucation no fun faw fhat." The muffled Nakicho would say.

Watching Nakicho's elegant display of showing Hotaru how to fail beautifully, Cogs started to turn in her head. Instead of trying to go at it slow, she would try to use her speed to her advantage. Getting a good start by running up the stairs, she would jump, full sprint across the gaps that divided the cylinders. When Nachiko would arise from his fluff coated prison, he would find Hotaru smiling at the other end. She would also throw up a peace sign, just to tease him.

Nackicho would finally lift his upper half out from the safety precaution only to spit out a few feathers unamused at his predicament. He'd only have to look up to see Hotaru's teeth and the peace sign in a taunting manner. " I am down but far from out! The man then performed a spring loaded backflip despite the weight of his sword back to the start. His eye glimmered and what would seem like an competitive flame ignited within it. "You have stoked the flames! Behold, for I am the flame of the forge Hotaru! Now can you handle the heat!" The man while he had ideally a stronger upper body strength his lower body while strong paled in comparison still he used the momentum from his upper body and made the leaps of faith. Taking a note from Hotaru's book he applied a great speed to his steps with a longer stride to lower the margin of error. Then with a front flip he landed next to Hotaru sparkling brimming with confidence as usual. "It seems I'm burning pretty hot now darling! Ahahaha."

Putting the smaller of the two on, she would chuckle to herself. "Might be a bit hard to put on with Aka on your back like that. You should consider putting it aside." Hotaru continued to tease him playfully. Chuckling some more, she set her sights on the next obstacle. "Heh. Easy." Hotaru immediately jumped for the pad and stuck to it, her light weight and flexibility making it all the easier. After climbing up the wall, she would take off her velcro suit, and wave to Nakicho, a radiance about her.

Nakicho shrugged off Hotaru's comment about shedding his beloved Aka. Unless it was for her own good he'd not abandon her again. Nakicho found a way to put the velcro suit on but it looked incredibly awkward like a stuffed sausage with its ends coming out...or something of a lewder nature. "Hotaru darling, would a man abandon his wife of seventy years who served with him in the war and saved his life on multiple occasion? Non! This is a burden we face together!" He'd watch as Hotaru and her diminutive frame aided her in her leap and landing. When she reached the top Nakicho looked at her with admiration but nothing romantic...then again the two weren't too far off age wise...and their union wouldn't be classified as *****. Haha..no this thought left his mind as he prepared for his leap with the subsequent bulge shooting out his back. So he would leap and stick the dismount...only...he found the velcro's grip not maintaining..perhaps he should have taken Hotaru's advice. Nakicho's pride did him in.."..Non.... non.. non non non... NON!' He would then fall with a thump making what appeared to be a few leagues between him and Hotaru. Nakicho would grit his teeth upon landing on his back and the hardness of his blades sheathe, this is what he gets for not taking her sound advice.

Hotaru would burst out laughing as Nakicho ran into the wall and falling to the ground, and after all his talk about how precious Aka was to him he would only feel the stinging of his ignorance. Wiping tears from her eyes she would calm herself down for the last obstacle. Large inflated balls would line her path to the last platform. Jumping onto one she would realize it was not as subtle a bounce as it looked, and she went sailing a good ten feet into the air before falling down to the ground below. There was padding, but that didn't stop her from imitating her competitor and doing two full flips, and breaking her fall with and somersault. Climbing a ladder back up to the platform she would look back to see how Nakicho was doing.

A glint shone in Nakicho's eyes. How elegant Hotaru's recovery was. It was almost like looking in mirror. As if he were the girl's father he beamed with a feeling of pride, proud that perhaps he had rubbed off on the girl. AH, but there was no time to waste. Nakicho would make his own recovery. Still refusing to abandon his blade! He would perform a rapid movement leaving behind an after image of himself in the reeling position. "You've left yourself open Hotaru!" The man leaped toward the web once more. "Like a rose petal resting on the morning dew I will cling to this wall and achieve the sweet nectar of victory yet!" He leaped forward and while he landed on the web it rejected him and launched him backwards but he backflipped and landed on his feet at the start with a grunt of disappointment.

Hotaru would not be fazed by her friend's words, focusing at the task at hand. Adjusting her aim on the bouncing balls would be difficult, but she was sure she could do it. Not letting herself wait any longer, she ran and jumped, landing on top of the first ball, and using her momentum to keep herself going. On the second ball she would fall, her momentum slowing down. to keep herself going, she would kick off of it, doing a single flip as she flew threw the air. On the third and final ball, she would land with both feet square in the center, pushing it down as far as she could to get maximum height. As it launched her nearly twenty feet in the air she would pose and yell out excitedly. "Wooohooooo! I did it!" Upon landing she would do the usual somersault to break her fall, but this time followed it up with a cartwheel into a frontflip. After landing with extreme grace, she would wave down the supervisor of the course, and give Nakicho a final victory sign, along with a large gleaming smile.

Removing his velcro vest in defeat Nakciho bowed his head and body down to Hotaru with humble theatrical defeat. "I should have known better, a firefly flies and shines brighter than a butterfly." After making an allusion to the meanings behind their names. Nakicho would leap unto the winner's circle realizing that the race was over. He returned Hotaru's smile then whilst the supervisor would give her, her prize Nakicho would chew his scarf in silent mourning over his defeat. Whist he did have fun, here was another challenge in which he failed to shine again. It was as if the entire populace of the fair were conspiring against him! Clearly the case in fact was Nakicho was just plain unlucky...and hardheaded. Especially when it came to his beloved blade.
