Ever since she'd moved away from towns and to the lair to be on-call for the invasion that was never going to happen, Xala had kind of...well, missed everyone. The other Horsemen were um, nice, sure. Like, they all had a really...fanatical...purpose in life and everything.

Like one big happy cult?

But she had never really been the world conquest enslavy type. Sure, she liked a little enslavement every now and again, who didn't? But the whole world organization blah blah blah was just...not personal. It wasn't handcrafting every delicious toxin and watching the face of a customer seize up before dropping over to the floor in a sugar coma.

There were all the tattoos, and power sources, and crystals, but frankly after the morning barrage of war plans all she wanted to do was hide in her kitchenette.

Soooooooo she was taking a little break, no biggie, to go pop by her old place of work and see how everybody was holding up. And maybe while she was visiting do a little ingredient shopping.

Hanging up at the cafe was also a flyer for open classes over at Amityville, including a cooking class. And while she was in town! What luck! Oh, she just had to go!

Xala arrived in the Home Wreck classroom, looking at the instructor with an extremely sparkling expression.

There was something about her species that made creeple a tad gunshy, but she wasn't going to let that stop her from learning. First, ingredient fetching! After some rifling (and snickering from some small creatures that were probably minipets, she emerged victorious from the back of the fridge with an armful of screaming, bleeding, oozing ingredients.

She dusted off her apron as she divested the entire writhing mess onto the workbench, and took out a gleaming knife.

Next, it was time to prepare, and add Sinnamon. More Sinnamon. So much Sinnamon.

The perfect amount of Sinnamon.

She gave the dough a final confident and expert dusting.

Something about the spice must have attracted victims customers! Which was great! Buuuuuuuuuut everything was still in the oven, so.

"Ohhhh," she cooed, "what hungry little babies, I could just stuff you full of pastries and chop you right up."

"Look lady," Popper growled, "don't get weird about it, just hand over the baked goods and gnomebody gets hurt."

"They can even talk!" Xala said, squeezing a bag of icing so hard the lid popped off.

One of the gnomes jabbed a fork into her ankle. "Quick, grab the stuff!"

The stab earned him a kick that went just past his nose. The little minipets were fast, and managed to only get a scuff, which was fortunate because Xala was, after all, a horseman and the kicking was no joke.

Xala seemed pretty conflicted. On the one hand, she'd love to have them...strung out over the countertop.

On the other, the Sinnamon buns just weren't ready yet. They jabbed her calf again.

Xala had kind of had enough. A pretty, golden chain appeared in her hands, and she smiled sweetly, "Take a deep breath," she encouraged.

White, strange smoke billowed out, surrounding everyone. The gnomes bent over, coughing, and Xala's eyes glowed a faint green in the carnage.

"Are you really that eager to get in the oven?"

"Nooooooooo!" they howled, making a dramatic leap and holding onto her ankles. Lower to the floor, they actually had a slight advantage with the smoke.

"Not yet? Maybe you want to be tenderized first!" Xala exclaimed, putting her pretty foot down.

The gnomes squealed and ran around in an undignified fashion.

She was starting to get an advantage over the little angels.

"All this distress and running around is going to spoil your flavor!" She warned them. "Just let me finish it quickly."

The gnomes, however, had no intention of this.

All four of them were on the floor at this point, and more than Xala's apron was getting flour on it.

The sugary ramifications and struggles were real.

Smoke once again began to billow through the room. This one was more aromatic, and glittered with gold.

Unfortunately, it seemed to have little effect.

Xala just hugged her thurible and cried.

Oddly, this seemed to have more effect on the gnomes than any of the kicking and scuffling did. All of them looked uncomfortable and ashamed.
