Well, with that all out of the way, it was time at last for Piper to get herself hustled all into the human world! Time to trick or treat! Nab some more candy! Spook some kids! Look fabulous while doing all of it! At least, that's what she had thought.

Her dreams were all dashed on the rocks, however, when Selene explained to their group that their job was not to celebrate Halloween but to save it. Well, alright, but how? By making sure the human scarelings had candy apparently. So not only was she saddled with more work that she hadn't expected, but Piper was now stuck making sure these brats were happy? What a great way to turn out the holiday.

Not.

First she had to get her costume appraised. Okay, but hadn't the professor seen enough of this thing earlier though? Ah well. Piper was not one to miss a chance to flaunt her stuff anyway. So she strutted about and reminded Selene of who and what she was, brandishing her sword proudly.

As it turned out, however, other humans had thought of something similar. She watched, aghast, as kids in similar outfits bounced about, dresses and robes and hats and all. How dare?? She was supposed to be an original special snowflake thank you very much!

She huffed rather loudly and dragged her feet as she looked about.

At least the town had some charm. (She hadn't bothered to remember the name, too busy being offended that she wasn't a dazzling star in the crowd.) Piper witnessed some cozy looking homes--well, cozy she supposed for human standards--and sighed inwardly. What she wouldn't give to have her own place: candle lit and with a nice little garden, maybe near the forest...It felt like a far away dream, the way she was going.

Looking wistful, her inward train of thought had almost distracted her from her job. Piper came across a dark house and almost passed it by, but then she noticed it still had an empty bucket. Well, scarelings were scarelings, they'd still probably come by and check even though it didn't look like anyone was home...Sigh. Time to scrounge some candy.

She couldn't help but be disappointed some in this field trip. What did giving them candy do exactly? Give them tooth decay? Make them happy? Happy wasn't afraid or scared or whatever, it didn't generate Fear...Piper just wasn't one to look out for others if it didn't exactly benefit her in some way. The only people who got lucky enough to see her generous side were her friends and fans (which she totally had, she was sure), certainly not this human population. And certainly not for stinking brats like the ones she heard wailing somewhere in the distance. Whiny little things weren't they...

She couldn't help but give the stink eye to someone who was wearing a similar costume to hers. All their fault she didn't shine bright like a diamond.

Wouldn't it have been more fun to just sneak around dropping candy in their pockets? Or would that have been too suspicious?

She chose to throw some at a few people in passing anyway, just to mess with them. Look, she was good at blending in, even with a costume on; they didn't notice!

Just a little more...Jack, these trips back and forth to get more candy was almost like an exercise in and of itself.

You know what, let's just dump the rest in. There was a few more than intended, but hey, more for the scarelings right?

Piper scurried back to Selene, sighing. Well, hopefully it'd get her some brownie points for the future.
