A series of caverns carved along the cliffs in the northern forest of Fire Country, a remaining marker of the old ninja tribes in the time before the founding of the great villages. These caverns and dug out houses oftentime serve as cover and shelter for travelers on their way to any place within the Land of Fire.

The ursine brothers would finally arrive at their old stomping grounds, the Cliffside caverns, where they had stayed and camped during their time living around the village before formally joining it years ago. Given the intel they had received from Masahiro, Bjorn put his hand out to Grym and let a low rumbling growl escape his throat, asking the bear if he smelled anyone other than themselves and Nariko. Grym would turn his head back and forth, sniffing the air slowly, trying to pick up any scents of any possible threats around them.

JSJF: Principle: Move first then Block

Description: It doesnt take a medical ninja specializing in brain surgery to know that a moving target is more difficult to to hit then a still target. By practicing always moving, especially right before they block, the user allows their movements to become slightly more difficult to pin down. By moving with the direction of the attack, the user can even lessen the impact force, making their defenses easier to perform. When engaging a physical force that will defeat their same rank defense (ie: berserker discipline, weapon specialist discipline, sage mode) the user may expend the additional half-rank stamina to allow the defense, of this style, to work. If you possess one of the above disciplines, then you may only do this for the style you do not receive an increase for.

JSJF: Principle: Circles and Angles

Description: The user, through a little combative understanding and sheer combative need, begins to understand the idea of moving and attacking on circles and angles. This way, they are able to circularly avoid attacks and danger, or simply slip off the angle off attack their opponent uses. When faced with a taijutsu and non-projectile based bukjutsu technique of D rank of lower, the user can simply expend that rank of stamina to augment a given technique of this style to perform a fast shift and dodge to avoid the technique. When faced with a taijutsu and non-projectile based bukjutsu technique of C rank or lower, the use can expand that rank of stamina to count as a defensive activation to perform a fast shift and dodge to avoid the technique. If used during a combination, this counts as one of the techniques.

JSJF: Principle: Sticking and Tracking

Description: When in the jungle, gaining control of your opponent is crucial. The longer the battle continues, the longer it has the chance of continuing. If you cant see your opponent, then you cant fight the opponent. The user must train to utilize their body as a form of sensory unit gaining a sensitivity to feeling pressure and movement as they attach to their opponent. By attempting to obtain constant contact with the opponent, with multiple points of attachment, the user is better able to combat a single opponent by transitioning from technique to technique while staying attached to the opponent. When attached to a given limb prior to the opponents attack using said limb, the user may use a single defensive technique and pay half the stamina cost to defend it/parry it/avoid it. This counts as a single offensive activation.

JSJF: Principle: There is Never an Idle limb

Description: In the jungle, combat is hectic, ferocious, and often brutal. To maximize their survivability, masters of Jing Shen Jie Fang utilize the principle of constant motion with all of their limbs, all the time and not get hung up in one action. By focusing on this principle, the user understands that by utilizing all their limbs during offense, as well as defense, that they can become an overwhelming force, like the roots of the jungle trees that smoother the ground. The user can now use their legs instead of their hands or weapons to defend an attack and perform combinations by using the stage 1 directions to defend the torso and lower body, leaving their hands free to engage and the attacker.

JSJF: Principle: Block off the back, Attack with the Front

Description: The ability to reach out and touch your enemy while not having them touch you has been the very defining thing of modern combat. By effective understanding of range, its variety, and constant flux, the user begins to change their offensive and defensive structure to block/parry with the rear weapon and attack with the front weapon. With no change in power, it can greatly increase the effectiveness of the user, allowing them to possibly land more strikes and attacks by distance alone.

JSJF: Principle: Whipping and Swimming the Arms

Description: When combat occurs in the close quarters, and confined and chaotic location like the jungle, then the user needs to be able to move themselves effectively to make sure they are not surrounded or flanked by multiple opponents or a single opponent getting a lucky shot. By whipping and swimming their arms and limbs, the user can transition from outside to inside of the opponent, offering different angles and attacking opportunities while limiting the opponents options. This can also allow the user to slightly manipulate their opponent with defensive and parry techniques to make multiple opponents block each other, or risk hitting each other instead of the user.

JSJF: Jungle Roots: Footing and Stability increased
JSJF: Panther’s Pounce: Mundane Mobility Increased
JSJF: Hunter’s Instincts: Human targets learned
JSJF: Tatau: Mark of the Tiger:
The tiger is the king of the jungle, using powerful claws and mass to dominate and control anything in its way. The basic techniques from stage 1 can now be trained up to S rank, and can be used as takedowns (usually when using opposite direction combinations) if the user so desires.

KoFaS: Reflexes supremely increased

Nariko came into the area silently as she was scouting the area. She kept her distance from the other two yet kept close enough to help them just in case. She kept her chakra charged and a hand sign held just in case with a particular jutsu in mind.

On their approach the two Konohagakure Shinobi would be greeted with only silence. A gust kicked up leaves and dust, the trees gently creaking and groaning as their weight shifted. In the distance smoke could be seen raising from one of the higher caverns on the western face of the cliff.

As Bjorn and Grym scanned the area, Grym would nudge Bjorn and grunt slightly, letting him know that he smelled smoke and the general direction it was coming from. Bjorn would look and see the trail of smoke rising from the western face of the cliffs before grunting to Grym and the two would dive into the ground in front of them and disappear as they traveled underground through the clearing and up the cliff’s face before barely poking their heads out of the stone and dirt to get a look at what was going on. The brothers figured that it was their best bet to avoid being seen at their sizes. Bjorn and Grym were generally berserker fighters, massive powerhouses that charged in and ripped enemies to shreds, but given how the hokage had talked about what they were after, they decided it was best to play things on the safer side, at least for now.

Nariko's eyes were settling upon the smoke coming from the cavern. She moved through the trees as quietly as possibly while gazing upon it. Her gorgeous golden eyes were moving scanning the area for any one to pounce upon and gain intel upon the area. She was a spider searching her web for some prey.

As the pair approached more caverns would be visible, more openings into the cliffside, but an awkward hush seemed to sit across the area. In clearings where Bjorn would see remnants of deer nesting grounds, there was no motion. No wildlife, not even birds nested among the cavern faces. Such stark contrast to years prior.

Nariko would notice the same upon approach. Silence, no wildlife, no voices. Only the wind whipping through the trees would create any semblance of sound. Immediately ahead of her were three entrances to the various caverns.

Bjorn and Grym would look around the clearings, somewhat saddened to see their old hunting grounds apparently stripped of their life. Grumbling to each other a moment, they continued underground towards the caverns more until they saw three openings, poking their heads up again, they saw Nariko in the trees where she had been before they emerged fully from the earth and crouched as low as the two huge males could and crept towards the caverns, Grym keeping his nose open to any threatening scents as they both looked for enemies. With three entryways in sight, they tried to think of how to go about searching… a large part of their strength was in working together, so Grym and Bjorn were reluctant to split up, so maybe the best idea for the time being was for them to go into one cavern and Nariko to search another.. then they all investigate the third together.

Nariko jumped down from the tree and chose the tunnel on the left. She didn't hesitate nor did she say anything to the other two as she still wasn't the type for a pack. She was a lone wolf that would get the job done no matter what the consequences were. Her golden eyes narrowed as she held a single hand sign charging her chakra. She was ready for anything at this point as she dashed through the tunnel searching for their objective.

As the young genin dove head first into the caverns, she would quickly see herself in extremely low light conditions, as the sun had crested over the cliff's edge, bathing their current location in deep shadows. Following further into the cave, her dashing would quickly put her into a downward pitch as the cavern floor took a sudden steep plunge. The angle of such a fall would leave her either tumbling down the incline, or if her actions were quick enough and she caught herself, she would end up taking the incline on her back, her eyes catching a glimpse of light at the bottom of the incline.

Bjorn and Grym on the other hand, taking their cautious approach, together, wary, and slow would draw upon the cavern furthest to the right. As they approached they would see entrances further along the sides of the cavern, though none seemed to be any more active than the one that they currently approached. Inside they would catch the familiar scents, moss, water, at the entrance they would pass an abandoned deer nestle.

Further within they would find another scent, pungent, acrid, mesquite. Smoke. They would pick the scent of smoke, ever so faint, upon the air, drawing out of the cavern where fresh winds had rolled only moments before.

Grym continued sniffing the air as they crept towards the cliff face, moving towards what was originally the far right cavern as they started to see several smaller openings. The closer they got, the more Grym was able to pick up on the scent of mesquite smoke and would grunt softly to Bjorn to let him know until even Bjorn’s nose caught the smell. After a minute or so, the two fighters made their way carefully into the cavern and started cautiously working their way down the tunnel, moving basically back to back so that no one could sneak up on them, with Bjorn being the one looking deeper into the tunnel. They knew all about hunting and large creatures were generally ambush hunters, they just wanted to make sure they didn’t get caught in a counter-ambush as they investigated by an enemy coming from another tunnel into theirs and sneaking up behind them.

Nariko made it to a steep plunge and rather than falling she slid with the plunge. Her golden eyes focusing upon the light as she quickly slid down the area and towards the light. Her hand still holding up a hand sign ready to react to any sound or sight in the area. Her golden eyes adjusted to the light as she reached the bottom.

Bjorn and Grim's slow entrance to the caverns would pay off, as quickly within the tunnel they garnered the scent of, and momentarily afterwards, the vision of, a large horned beast. Although it currently laid upon its side, its height was obvious. Twice the shoulder height of the common Konoha Forest Horse, and with the horns of a large ram upon its head. The faint light within the cavern shown the beast to have marbled highlights of white and deep blue upon its fur. It was asleep, but as the pair moved further within the caverns, its ears began to flick and twist. The one on the upper side of its head turning towards Grym as he worked his way into the cavern depths.

Nariko, on the other hand, would manage to tuck herself away from the view of the men sitting around a rather plain smelling fire and smoke. It smelled of burning leaves and Konoha Pine. The scent of meat would also be noted upon the pyre, it was something different than her tastes would be used to, and if her eyes adjusted quick enough to see it, she would take note that it was mostly lean, with very little fat to it, and that the meat was stringier than beef or pork.

Nariko giggled a bit as she dusted herself off a bit. She knew that a couple of them saw her now she had to play everything off. As she practically danced to the fire she kept her eyes on everyone. Scanning the room for everyone within it as they hadn't shown hostilities yet. They would probably think her a dumb bimbo that fell in the cave. "Got any extra for me?" She asked with a large smile upon her face as she stared at the man handing out the food. As she had her left hand tucked into her pocket she held a single hand sign in her pocket. She was ready to get this party started the right way. "You really gonna make me beg for food?" She asked giggling a bit. She was waiting on any sound of someone coming at her rapidly. Or any hostile movement and she would kill them all with ease. She knew she could do it as she had done it before.

The man sitting at the fire looked to the girl and rose an eyebrow, holding out the first 'steak' to her on a flat stone that they were obviously using for plates. As she neared the group she would see that they weren't armed, aside from a knife that was sitting in the carcass of a wolf that they had carved. The man smiled, several of his teeth missing.

"Nah, young'n. Help yahself, it's stringy and tough, bu't's lean and won't give your waistlahn any fat." The old man said as another man began lifting a tarp with a rope, creating a makeshift tent within the cavern.

"Weren't expecting any of the city folk to fin' us out here. Guess the big group that came through a few weeks back drew too mu' attention."

"You know their type, Takeshi. They always make messes where they go. Need me to carve up another steak since we have company?" The younger man, raising the tent, asked.
