User Image Beyla was a little bit... shy. She shuffled her feet in the shade of a rocky outcrop, where she was supposed to meet her twin. The soft and chubby little cub had gone to him for help. She had to be the best fighter there had ever been if she wanted to be taken seriously. She had been working very hard on her own, but she had to be tested somehow, right?

The little cub sighed. At least Hakon didn't tease her like the other stormborn cubs did. By the time she grew up they would have to respect her. She'd be a captain some day. But she had to train first.

Hakon glanced behind himself, an amused smile curling his muzzle. She still followed him, trying to be all sneaky and hidden when in reality her bright white fur was about as useful as camouflage against the dark grey rocks as his own. Still, he did not stop and call out to her, or try and engage her in any way. The last time he ahd done so it had sent her fleeing into the underbrush and Hakon wasn't really comfortable with her being out there on her own. He had caught sight of the cubs from before following her several times and only his presence kept them at a distance, he was sure. They still didn't know what to make of him, for he was the same age or younger than them, but he was already noticeably taller. Rolling his eyes he turned to look for his twin. He had promised Beyla that he would help her train, and while he didn’t really understand why she felt that she had to, he was more than happy to help her. He loved his family, each and every one of them, but Beyla was his twin. He felt a close and tight bond to her and, aside form being ultra protective of her, he would do almost anything she asked. He was planning to teach her some of the many exercises that Captain Lucivar had been teaching him. The older Captain had explained why they did them and how they would help, but Hakon didn’t really remember that part. His strength was in the physical and he knew what he had to do and how hard he had to try at it, so, he would teach his twin that, and maybe if she wanted to know why, he would just have to go back and ask Lucivar next time he saw the big male.

Rounding a large rock he spotted his twin looking worried and anxious. Increasing his speed he trotted over to her and licked her head fuzz playfully. "Hello sis!"

The tiny little white cub trailed along behind her saviour, trying to stay out of sight but too scared to let him get too far ahead of her. The bullies who had nearly chased her off the cliff edge a few days ago were still lingering nearby. But they wouldn’t go anywhere near the big white god-cub -he was actually the grandson of a god, but they seemed to mistake him for one- so she had stayed close to him for safety. But that wasn’t the whole reason. After he had saved her from a very long fall with a short stop at the end, she had fallen into a kind of hero-worship. He had rescued her and then kept watch over her, walking her all the way back to her mother's den even, despite it being in the opposite direction from his own.

Following him now she didn’t spot the small white cub up ahead until Hakon had called out to her. For a moment Kaisa felt her heart thud with fear, thinking that the other girl was his friend, but then she saw the female and had to blink several times. Twins! Relief and curiosity swarmed her. She had a twin, but her sister was black where Kaisa was white. They shared all the same markings, but their colours were completely opposite. Curious and wanting to stay close to Hakon, she tucked herself against the side of a boulder and settled down to watch the two siblings. Though every so often she looked around fearfully, expecting her tormentors to appear from behind some nearby rock.

Beyla playfully head butted her brother in return. He was her favorite. They had that special bond that only twins had. Her orange eyes widened with surprise and then narrowed with suspicion.

"Who is... she?" Beyla hissed and put her brother between her and the strange white cub. She didn't come here to be made fun of. Her fur bristled, which only made the cub look bigger. She didn't want an audience. She just wanted to train and become good at something. She pouted. Were they going to have to find a new secret spot?

Grinning as his twin greeted him in return he instantly knew who she was referring to as she hid behind him. Suppressing a chuckle he flicked his tail. "She was being chased by those four boys we had an argument with last week, remember them?" He asked, glancing at the tiny white girl cub currently trying to blend in with a dark grey rock and failing. "They nearly drove her off the top of Big Cliff." Turning back to his sister he mouthed her ear playfully, seeking to distract her from the white ghost. "She has been following me about since then, but she is totally harmless, barely says a word and wont come any closer. I think she is scared to be honest." He turned and gave her a wave, and the white cub instantly shrank backward. "See? Now..." Turning back to his sister he moved into the middle of the open space they had picked to practice in. "First objective, you have to tap my shoulder with your paw." He faced Beyla and smiled encouragingly. "I'm going to dodge. Its a speed and balance exercise." He was quite proud that he remembered that.

Beyla still looked suspicious, but her gaze softened a little bit. She felt kind of sorry for the little cub. She knew what it was like to be bullied too. It was hard to be a chubby cub by itself, but being a chubby cub in the stormborn was pretty difficult.

"O-okay... She can stay." She chewed her twin brother's ear in return, then gave him a sloppy lick, messing up his black forelock. He pulled away when he went to the open space, and nodding with determination, she followed him. This would be good training for when she was big enough to practice fighting and face challengers in the pit. What would she do without Hakon? Wondering that to herself, she could imagine that the little white cub felt much the same.

Beyla waggled her bottom as she got into a pouncing position, and lunged at her brother, letting out a little roar, paws forward, trying to land a hit.

As his sister capitulated, Hakon gave her a big, broad grin of gratitude. "Thanks sis." He replied before pulling a face at her sloppy lick. He knew he didn't have the heart to chase the white cub away, she was so forlorn looking out there on her own, and aside from that, he could still see her bright and innocent smile when he had shown her his found skull. Her gratitude when he had saved her from a long drop off the cliff edge had also stuck with him, making him rather protective over her, much as he was over his twin.

As Beyla got into position he grinned, turning his mind back to the task at hand. Remembering what Lucivar had taught him, he kept his eyes on her paws intently, so when she lunged at him, he was already moving sideways, keeping his head towards her while moving his body out of her reach. This was as much practice for him, as it was for his twin. Grinning he reached out and tapped her on her rump before jumping back, moving in an uneven circle to keep her in front of him. "Don't roar, it distracts you. Roaring comes later when you have more control and can pick when to do it." He said, parroting the Captain's words. "It will distract your opponent then." He scrunched his nose briefly, trying to recall anything else Lucivar had said but came up blank. "Again." He called, readying himself to move sideways.

Off to one side Kaisa had settled down, partly under, a large rounded boulder, her pale eyes wide as she watched hakon and his sister fight. She had never seen anything like it, since she took great pains to avoid the sparring areas in case the four boy cubs were near there. So she had never seen the reavers fighting or the younger pride members sparring. Fascinated she gazed wide-eyed as Hakon neatly danced to one side, avoiding his sister with what appeared to Kaisa to be complete effortless grace.
She longed to be like that, fast and sure and bold. She desperately wanted to join them in their game, but the idea of going closer to ask never even crossed her mind.

Beyla knew better than to become disheartened after missing her first attack. After all, how was she supposed to improve if there wasn't room for improvement? And clearly she needed it. She pouted a little bit though. Her roar wasn't entirely on purpose. She knew she wasn't that intimidating, she just... got a little too excited was all. But she nodded and, tensing her chubby little body and lunging right for her brother. The other white female cub was all but forgotten. Nothing could shake her concentration.

Her dragon paw reaching out for Hakon, Beyla was determined. Determined not to get teased or made fun of. To be able to stick up for and prove herself to the cubs who teased her who would grow into reavers who teased her, and, well, she would just become a captain! Not to prove them wrong, no she didn't think that was the proper motivation for self-improvement, but because she knew she could become great enough.

Hakon grinned as he watched his sister pout a little and then get right back into the fight. He admired her for it, she was determined if nothing else. Of course, she wouldn't be able to actually fight him, he had been practicing with Lucivar and Svana, both Captains, and any of their reavers who would give him the time of day. He wasn't good, not yet, and wouldn't be until he grew some, but Beyla hadn't had any training whatsoever, so he felt pretty confident that he was helping her, and not just teaching her bad habits. As she came at him he darted away again, once more tapping her on her rump. But he also smiled and gave her encouragement, suggesting where she should put her paws and how to move her weight. He also tried to explain how to hide one's intentions, but that was a concept he was still struggling with himself, and so he gave up eventually, knowing he was only confusing them both.

After a while he swopped their drill and had her run backwards to a near-by rock, turn swiftly, then dash back to him and bite. Only to repeat it again and again as they had the first game. A few times he had remembered the white cub, Kaisa, was still watching and had turned to check she was ok. The distraction had earned him a couple of bites on his shoulder but he simply grinned and praised his twin while telling himself off mentally.

Across the open space and under her rock, Kaisa watched the two cubs with wide, avid eyes. Hakon looked like he knew what he was doing, at least to her untrained eyes, and she wished again that she could join them. Beyla also fascinated her. She was fighting! Kaisa hadn't realised that females could fight. Well, she had heard of lionesses being reavers and Hakon had mentioned a 'Svana' which sounded like a girl's name, but who was a captain. But knowing something as an idea and actually seeing it... It was a completely different thing entirely. So she watched Beyla, fascinated and excited. Every time the white female got in a hit Kaisa gave a tiny silent cheer, her tail having slowly started to swish behind her in her rapt attention.

Beyla, ever a little more emotional than her siblings, was getting frustrated. She felt tears sting her eye, anger clutch her throat... Her brother's smile did little to placate her, but she would not give up. Beyla was nothing if not persistent. The chubby white cub had too much to lose, too much to prove. She had not been on this earth for many moons but she had already taken so much ridicule and torture from those who would make fun of her for being thicker than her litter mates.

Her teeth clacked and snapped at the air, sometimes pinching her twin or pulling out a tuft of fur, sometimes missing their mark. She was panting now, laboring far harder than her trimmer, more practiced brother.

"Stop, I want to stop." She glared at him, and limped over to where Kaisa was hiding and plopped down, then laid on her side several paces away from the other cub, still laboring in her breathing.

"Tomorrow... More tomorrow."

As his sister glared at him and stalked off Hakon realised there was more to teaching than just remembering the drills... Grinning in return, not at all hurt by his twin's grumppiness, he followed after her, plopping down beside his sibling as she lay resting. "That was good!" He enthused, still excited from their practice and eager to ecourage her sister. Bey had always been somewhat heavier than the rest of them, and he had felt it had been an unwarrented curse from the gods. Yet she tried and he couldn't be any prouder of her. He wanted to help her, to encourage her, and if she wanted to elarn to fight he was eager and willing to help. Mind you he should probably ask Lucivar to teach her if she wanted to be a reaver, as Hakon himself was still fumbling about in the dark when it came to proper fighting.

"You will hurt for a bit, training always makes you sore, but its supposed to." He told her, just incase she worried about it. He had seen other cubs mistake a bit of soreness for an injury and it always put back their training.

As the two siblings stopped their practice and came towards her, Kaisa found herself trapped in place, the rock at her back preventing her from slipping away and to safety. So when the female cub lay down near her she watched with wide, nervous eyes, as if waiting to be driven away. But the pair seemed to ignore her, and gradually her heartbeat calmed down enough that it was no longer pounding away inside her ears. She remaining cowering though, her wide eyes fixed on the two powerful-looking cubs.

Beyla blew a puff of air at her forelock to get it out of her eyes, which she rolled at her brother. He wasn't wrong or out of place, but her fatigue and her (in her mind) unsuccessful training had her a little bit grumpy. She was definitely ready for a nap, but she usually hid somewhere for those so others wouldn't see her as lazy and further tease her for being a bigger cub. She crossed her paws and laid her chin down on them and heaved a deep sigh. Adulthood couldn't come soon enough for her. Even if she was still chunky and clumsy, at leas she would be able to leave and be a rogue. Maybe then she could get some peace from her tormenters. Not go too far, though, so she could see Hakon and maybe some other family when they went on vikings.

For poor Beyla, the future didn't seem especially bright. She glanced at Kaisa and wondered if she was that sad, too. She frowned and wriggled around to lay her head across Hakon's back. She'd find a secret nap place soon, but for now, this was perfect.

Hakin just grinned back at his sister's exasperated expression. He was quite used to recieving that look from not only his other siblings but also from his mom and his teachers too. So he just grinned back at her. When she drapped herself across his back the young male didn't protest, happy to be her pillow. Turning his attention to his little white shadow he smiled a more gentle smile, well aware of just how jumpy the tiny female was.

Yawning suddenly he huffed out a breath and dropped his head across his paws. Having been training earlier with Svana and now with his sister, he was beat and a nap sounded liek the perfect idea. Almost immediately Hakon was snoring away softly, with his twin resting against him and the little white cub watching them both.
