Emily smiles as she sat on the couch in her living room. She had headphones over her ears and an mp3 playing some music unheard by anyone other than Emily. She had a notebook in her lap and a pencil in her right hand as she worked on her math homework her long black hair cascaded down her back and other her shoulders as she looked down at her work, a blue headband keeling the hair out of face. Emily was just a couple problems away from finishing the assignment, though she wasn’t in too much a hurry as she had nowhere to be and no one to hang out with besides her mum who was busy doing her own things and didn’t want to spend every free second of her day with Emily, and the girl couldn’t blame her as Emily herself didn’t want to spend every moment with her mum either. She smiled as a new song started playing though her headphones as she checked her answer to the problem she’d been working on, smiling as it worked out. She leaned forward and picked up a glass with soda in it, drinking the liquid before going back to her work.

Emily had just looked at her next problem when she heard the door bell ringing. She looked up to see her mum going to get the door and shrugged, it wasn’t like anyone would be asking to hang out with her either. Though Emily ended up pausing her music and pulled the headphones off so it was resting around the back of her neck she leaned back trying to see the door but couldn’t from where she sat there was a wall blocking the entranced way and the living room. Emily eventually went back to her work figuring it was something to do with her mum’s work, or a delivery. They’d been getting a lot of deliveries, but Emily didn’t think much about it as none of it was for her. Emily went back to her math problem, her headphones still off as she focused on the work. She could hear voices but mot what they were saying, nothing too odd so she didn’t think much about it.

Angelica was surprised. Honestly this day had happened a lot faster than she had expected. Honestly it seemed like a reasonably standard... Normal, day. The guards were rather scummy, but they kept to themselves largely, as they usually did. At least around the slaves that could defend themselves, like herself. Though she had done nothing to be considered dangerous to them, they seemed to treat her with a decent berth as well. However, today was different. She thought about it and realized that it was this moment that seemed to trigger today to fly past. The guards actually spoke to her, briefly. Just a simple exchange, perhaps something to test if she was still mentally stable, before they took her out of her cage. She saw them with her sword, as well. That made her almost protest, she didn't want anybody holding her sword but herself. However, despite the feelings she withheld them. She realized what was happening, someone had bought her. Although she didn't know who, or for what reason. What happened next was a blur, she was escorted by three guards into a van, one of them taking the drivers seat, and then they were off. Just like that. She thought it would have been.. Well, she wasn't sure what it would have been. More ceremonious perhaps. But it was just... There. There she was. In the Van.

The guards didn't make much conversation with her. One of the guards held her sword in his grubby hands and it peeved her. She avoided looking at it at all costs, but fortunately the guards didn't heckle her about it. They just... Held it, along with their weapons that they kept at a relative state of readiness. Not aiming at her, but they could in a flash. Even with her hands chained, she knew that she could still be a match for them. But she had no reason to try her luck. She didn't ask any questions, either. Something like that wasn't a problem that she considered. What would it matter if she asked about where she was going? It wouldn't change the outcome. She wished she had a chance to take a bath. She knew that both her and her clothes weren't the cleanest that they had ever been. She also knew she wasn't filthy, or even really dirty. She didn't smell bad, either. But all the same, there was a difference between not being dirty and being clean. She wanted to make a good impression on those who had bought her. But all the same. After what felt like far longer than it was though Angelica doubted it was more than fifteen minutes, the van stopped and the guards stood. Opening the back door and aiming their guns, barking one command.
"Walk. Slowly" They commanded. Angelica knew that they weren't going to make a big scene, and so once she was out of the van their weapons would be replaced with pistols, and hidden from view. And sure enough, once she stepped obediently from the van, that's what they did. They kept her sword, but they left their rifles in the back of the van. Simply walking her to the house that laid before her. It was... Surprisingly modest. It wasn't anything like she was expecting. Looking around she realized that her neighborhood too seemed quite pristine. Normal. She wondered who on earth would have need of her services in a place like this.

As she approached the door, one of the guards spat to keep her hands lowered. Perhaps so that if there were any curious neighbors they wouldn't see the chains on her hands. She sighed, honestly she would rather have them removed. She wasn't going to cause any trouble. But she understood their precaution, and so she walked with them easily to the front of the door and listened to the bell ring. She enjoyed the chime, she hadn't heard something like it for awhile and a small smile crossed her lips, before she felt an uncharacteristic bit of nervousness. Who were the people that were taking her?

Her question was answered when she saw an older woman approach the door, She used the term older loosely. The woman couldn't have been older than her early forties. But when she opened the door the guards spoke before Angelica could introduce herself..
"We got her here, the one you ordered ma'am" One of the guards says "Sorry 'bout that, we had to keep her chained up. You can remove the chains when you feel like you're ready to" The guard added, holding out the key to the woman. Angelica was about to introduce herself when one of the guards shot her a warning glare, and she felt something hard touch her back against her spine. She recognized the feeling as one of the pistols that the guard was holding. Clearly, they didn't want her to say anything. And so she held her tongue. Waiting until she was claimed by her new mistress, who she assumed was the woman standing before her.

Lauran (Emily’s mom, thought I should name her) had opened the door seeing three men and a young woman she nodded when one of the men introduced them apologizing about the chains on the younger woman though she frowned not liking the face that they used the chains but she could understand it from a business stand point of them not wanting the ‘product’ escaping she still didn’t like it personally. Lauran accepted the key and then motioned toward Angelica “If that is all I am quite busy to day and wish to get her settled in sooner than later so if you men have no more business with me than you may take your leave now.” She stated before looking at Angelica. “Come on in.” She said her facial features were gentle, motherly as she motioned Angelica in.

The moment Angelica entered the house and she’d collected Angelica’s belongings from the slavers Lauran closed the door. “I’ll take those off now, I can’t introduce you to my daughter with chains on.” She stated with a sigh as she started using the key to take the chains off, wondering what she’d do with them. For the time she’d just set them down and throw them away after introducing Angelica to Emily. After unlocking Angelica’s chains she looked at her a moment before giving a small nod. “Come this way, Emily’s in the living room.” She said starting to move to the living room before pausing. “You can read, correct? Because you’re going to need to know how to.” She asked waiting for a response before nodding and starting to walk again. Once they reached the living room Lauran cleared her thought as if to try getting someone’s attention before she smiled. “Emily,” She said pausing a moment. “Emily, there’s someone I want you to meet.” She added when just saying her daughter’s name didn’t get her attention.

Emily heard someone approaching but was too engorged in her math to look up. She heard her mum’s voice calling her but she ignored it looking up as her mum said there was someone for her to meet. Emily held up her hand in a ‘one minute’ gesture before closing her notebook and setting everything on a couch cushion next to where she sat. Once she was finished she turned to look at her Mum noticing the young woman with her Emily tilted her head slightly in question, her face showing confusion, a small note pad and pen in her hand as she watched her mum and then looking at the young woman making the motion noticeable. “Emily, this is Angelica, Angelica this is Emily, I got you for her sake more than anything.” Lauran said not wanting to mention too much of her concerns about her daughter not wanting Emily to get mad about it. “I’ll talk to you more about why you’re here later, but for now I just want you two to get acquainted a bit for now.” She stated. “Just a heads up, don’t expect Emily to say anything. She’s mute and already gets a hard time for it.” Lauran said offering a smile.

Emily had a slightly annoyed look at her mum a bit before looking at Angelica and writing something a moment before showing it to the woman. ‘You should sit.’ Was all that was written in her neat easily readable hand writing as she used her other hand to motion to the furniture she smiled a polite smile as well waiting to see what Angelica would do, Lauran nodded for Angelica to go. “I’ll leave you two be, I have some things to do around the house so I’ll be around. I do have some errands to run later though so if there’s anything you need Emily, write it down, or text me and let me know if you need anything as well Angelica. This is your home now too so don’t hesitate to ask for anything and we’ll see what we can do.” She stated offering a smile before leaving the room.

Emily rolled her eyes as her mum left though she didn’t know what to say or in her case write so she wrote what she could. ‘mum worries about me too much, sorry.’ She wrote on her note pad below the offer for Angelica to sit, she had learned to write quickly to keep up with a conversation with one to two other people, though it was slower than speech it was better than nothing and once people got used to it and slowed down a bit her writing didn’t seem odd at all, she could tell from how people would relax when they were truly comfortable with her. That was how it was before the move, Emily had friends and she was never treated differently because of her muteness, if someone did bother her about it her friends would defend her. After the move, however, Emily struggled, all the kids seemed to tease her and even the teachers ignored her in class when she’d attempt answering a question. Emily found it extremely frustrating but hadn’t told anyone because her mum worried about enough already.

Angelica waited to see Emily's mom, and she was somewhat relieved to see in her eyes, and her face that she didn't like her situation anymore than Angelica herself did. She imagined that the person who was going to take her up would be nothing but approving at her chains. It came as a bit of a relief to her that it wouldn't be the case with Lauran. She gave her a small, if a bit awkward smile. She wasn't certain how to express her thanks while in the company of the slavers. Fortunately, that was easily remedied because in an instant, she was motioned in. Even without the gun pressing into her back she would have stepped forward, though of course the slaver put the gun away as soon as she stepped forward so that it wouldn't be visible anymore. She didn't really care, she wanted to avoid a scene herself. And so she stepped in obediently as the slavers turned and left, their payment done already. Laughing a bit and tapping each other as they walked off, talking about cute slaves back at the warehouse. Angelica didn't look back at them as she held up her hands for her new owner. "Thank you very much, ma'am" Her voice shows her relief quite easily, though her face stays rather straight. Even with the fact that she was finally owned, and happy about it, she couldn't quite smile. Though she knew a small one was on her lips, it didn't come naturally to her, and she had been trained to not show her emotions on her face. It was hard to override that training now. She was glad that her voice, at least, was transparent. However as soon as the chains fell off, Angelica caught them in her hands. The chains were very heavy, far heavier than normal chains. Made to contain her while she was using her armament. If they dropped, they might hurt the floor. She gently set them down to the side, against the wall and out of the view. Her daughter? So this woman was a mother...

She felt a bit of a soft happiness in her core. This was another thing to add to her happiness. Of all the things to be owned by, she managed to have this luck. She nodded her head in response to the mothers question "Yes, ma'am." She says in confirmation. She could read, she wasn't the best of all readers, but she had been taught. "Within reason" She adds, her voice a bit playful. She was certain she could manage with whatever task related to it. She assumed Emily was the woman's daughter, she couldn't wait to meet her. Fortunately she wasn't left in anticipation for long, she wasn't given her sword back quite yet. She really did want it but she wasn't going to make a scene of it, and she understood not getting it quite yet. She didn't like it, but it was a small price to pay for this scenario. She rubbed her wrists a little bit at the marks the heavy chains left in her skin. It wasn't anything horrible, just red marks. They'd go away within a day, after all she had only worn the chains for about an hour, and when they entered the living room she saw Emily. Studying dutifully. She smiled a bit at her diligence, it was something she could appreciate. She waited patiently where she was, lowering her wrists as she flicked a quick glance around the house. Her lack of a left eye kept her from really seeing everything if she didn't actively look around, but she had learned to compensate for the disability. The eyepatch itself was a reminder, and she kept it on almost all the time.

But once Emily looked up, she stopped glancing. Looking to the girl resting on the couch. When she was introduced, she made a note of the mothers comment. So, she was a mute... That is why reading was so important. It didn't bother her very much, in fact it made a softness in her heart. She was technically half blind, so the disability was more endearing than anything else. It would be a bit more difficult to guard her... If that's what she was here for. But all the same. She gave a polite bow, a polished motion that she had practiced many times over. She tried the curtsy before, and she had learned how to do it but it didn't come quite as comfortably. "It's a pleasure to meet you, mistress" She said politely. She would wait until she was told what to do, but honestly she was fine getting to know her new owner a little bit better. She was interested to know what kind of girl she'd be protecting. She was typically quite good at reading people at a glance, and what she saw of Emily she liked so far.

At the invitation to sit, she hesitated only briefly before moving over to one of the spare seats in the room, not sitting beside Emily quite yet. Not wanting to overstep boundaries or get to personal. But she still did pick a seat that was close. She nodded her head as she looked to Lauren "Thank you very much, ma'am... For all of this" She says, a small smile crossing her lips again. It made her happy, to be able to have a place again. When Lauren left, she looked back to Emily... So, this was her owner. "It's fine... I can relate" She says as she reads what Emily said. It takes her a small bit to read, but not longer than the average person. It just seems as though she's a bit rusty with it. But why else would she be here if her mother didn't worry? "It's nice to meet you" She says to the girl sitting on the couch. She wasn't really sure what else to say though and she realized it right when she spoke. She also wouldn't be sure if it was okay if she spoke. But she thought that... Well. Since Emily couldn't, she may as well. "If you don't mind me asking...What are you working on?" She inquired to the girl sitting before her. Leaning forward just a little to try to get an idea. She could see a quick glimpse of frustration in the girls eyes, though she didn't mention it. She didn't want to suddenly breach on topics of her being mute immediately. Though she would need to talk to her about it at some point. It was important if she was going to protect her... But now wasn't the time for that.

Lauran noticed the young woman’s slightly awkward smile but didn’t say anything about it as she motioned her inside and away from the slavers. She was glade when the girl walked inside not blaming her for not wanting to look back as the slavers making some form of crack and laughing though she didn’t care to figure out what they were laughing about. Lauran looked back at the girl when she spoke and her smile seemed to grow more. “Not a problem, and please, call me Lauran or anything but ‘ma’am’, it makes me feel old.” She said with a small laugh when she mentioned being called ma’am. Lauran smiled as Angelica caught the chains the moment they fell from her wrist then set them down in a not so noticeable place by the wall. She was glad that Angelica seemed fine so far, she’d need worried about buying a slave to protect her daughter at first however it was the best thing she could think of to protect her daughter from whatever it was she refused to tell her about. Though after seeing Angelica standing there she felt she could relax again if only slightly.

Lauran smiled when Angelica confirmed the fact she could read and questioned in her mind if she should mentioned the ma’am thing again or let it go for the time and get to know Angelica better before correction her on something that wasn’t such a huge deal. She nodded when it was added the she could read within reason, though her voice held a playfulness to it Lauran still took note of it with a nod. “Of course, most of the reading should be pretty simple.” She replied “And if you don’t understand a word don’t be afraid to ask, Emily likes to sneak in big words in once in a while even I don’t know the meaning to.” She replied with a laugh. As she talked Lauran had forgotten she was holding Angelica’s sword. An ability she gained though becoming a mother it seemed as she could pick up something and be holding it for hours not realizing she’d been carrying it around the entire time. Lauran noticed the younger woman rubbing her wrist, she couldn’t blame her after having to wear those horrible chains for any amount of time. Lauran also smiled seeing her daughter back at her homework. She was proud of her daughter, though she wished the teenager would have made some friends and leave the house more as her being mute was never something her parents made a big deal of. When Emily did look back at her mum and the strange woman with her mum she was defiantly surprised, and her expressions told the full story. She used her body language and facial expressions to help get her point across, as well as to tell someone when she’s only joking or when she meant what she wrote and writing on a piece of paper can only get part of her intent across after all.

Lauran and Emily both held shocked expressions when the girl bowed it was evident that the girl had practiced that bow before. Though as long as she was with them she wouldn’t have need to bow them again as it would draw too much attention at Emily’s school or when they were out of the house and even within the house Emily was already finding it embarrassing. When the girl said it was a pleasure meeting them Emily, though still surprised and embarrassed nodded before writing on her notepad. ‘You to, but please, just call me ‘Emily’.’ She wrote quickly then showing it to the woman, a light blush creeping up on her cheeks. Emily didn’t take long from listening to her mum talking to the girl to take care of her, saying that she’d gotten the girl for her was probably the biggest clue. However when her mum mentioned her being mute Emily couldn’t help the flash of annoyance in her eye when her mum mentioned her muteness as it had become a score spot for her since they moved and everyone around her made it much bigger a deal than it really needed to be. Deep down Emily kind of liked the idea of having someone not tease her for once, and to ‘talk’ with though she still wasn’t happy about her mum butting in and taking matters into her own hands.

Emily waited as Angelica hesitated a moment before eventually walking over and sitting on one of the open seats. She could understand her not wanting to sit too close to her after all the seat next to her was filled with the work she’d been working on before. Emily smiled when she sat down though glade that the woman hadn’t taken the seat farthest away from her like most people seemed to do. When Angelica thanked her Lauran smiled “Don’t worry about it, Angelica, you’re part of this house now so if you need anything just let me know.” She replied returning Angelica’s small smile with a slightly bigger one though it also held a softness only a mother could hold. Emily watched her mum leave wondering for only a moment what the deal with the sword was about but knowing her mum it was probably something she’d picked up somewhere at some point thought the day. Emily looked back at Angelica when she said she could relate and smiled closing her eyes. ‘Good to meet you too, Angelica.’ She wrote offering her hand to shake. Emily didn’t feel threatened by the woman and she wasn’t raised to be a shy girl, though she had her moments, Emily was pretty accepting of people almost to the point of being too accepting and trusting of people. When Angelica asked her what she was working on Emily beamed happily, before opening her book and the work she had been doing, handing it over to the woman to look at as she wrote something else. ‘It’s algebra 2.’ She wrote simply showing it to Angelica and giving her time to read it before writing something else. ‘I’m in 11th grade, advanced algebra class. I spend a lot of time studying because no one wants to hang out with the mute girl if they don’t have to.” She wrote taking longer to write it out as she had to think about it a moment of what to put down as well as the time it took to write it all. After a moment she leaned forward and got a drink from her glass before setting it down, her fingers playing with the pencil in her hand, something she didn’t think about when she wasn’t writing something. Though she started that habit as a kid as the movement helped keep her hand from cramping up as easily though anymore it was more subconscious and only noticed she was doing it if someone mentioned it. As they sat in the living room Emily could hear her mum in the other room though she had no clue what she was doing Emily wouldn’t be surprised if she’d only said she had things to do as an excuse to leave Emily alone with Angelica to force her to ‘talk’ to her.

Angelica was surprised, though she did her best to hide it when the woman. Don't call her ma'am? Truthfully, she'd only really ever had one person that she could call by her name openly. That was almost second nature for her. Ma'am, or sir. Well, it was a different environment than what she used to. She smiled a bit more, she rather liked it "Alright... Lauran" She said, the name a little odd passing through her lips. Though she felt as though it may become familiar, and she hoped it would stay that way. Once she moved, she nodded her head in response to the girl sneaking in big words. Smiling a bit as she said so. It reminded her softly of times long since past. "I think that will be fine" She says thoughtfully. Her initial thought of the mute girl was one of intrigue. It made sense, when she thought about it. But she was amazed at the girls capability to project herself. She had an incredible body language, which she assumed was natural perhaps to compensate for her lack of capability to do so vocally. Either way. She too could do something similar in regards to projecting herself, but she had to train herself hard to do it. And even then, she could only really intimidate or insert herself, not project quite like her.

She smiled a bit at Emily's embarrassment, it was true, perhaps, that she was a little old fashioned. But she'd never guarded in such a casual manner before. She definitely was aware about her bow's reaction, and she made a note of it. Though not necessarily to never do it again. Emily huh... Well. That was something that she could get used to. She saw the annoyance of the mother mentioning her muteness and smiled a bit. She looked to Lauran and when she saw the motherly warmth in her smile she hesitated. It caught her off guard. That wasn't something she'd ever seen before, especially not directed at her, and it made her breath catch for a bit. It was almost enough to make her laugh. She'd done things and seen things to make someone faint, but all it took was a smile to make her breath catch. She tried to say thank you but she couldn't quite get it past her throat when the mother left. She shook herself mentally and cleared her throat a bit. Looking back to her mistress... Well. To Emily, she supposed. She smiled at the girl holding out her hand to shake and she returned the gesture, gripping her hand gently, but firmly, and shaking back. "The pleasure is mine, Emily" She said, softly. It was weird for her to say the name of her owner. She was kind of hoping she wouldn't have to in a way. It brought back a lot of memories to call her owner by a first name basis, far to many.

She almost laughed at the girls excitement to tell her about what she was working on. She read what the girl talked about... And she felt a bit lost already. She'd heard her previous owner mention something about Algebra before, but she'd never had to do something like this. What followed next was a bit of a curiosity, and also a bit of loss. Eleventh grade? She couldn't help but feeling like she was missing something. She assumed it was something similar to martial arts, perhaps, but with this... Algebra? With math? Angelica's knowledge of math was simple, only enough to do basic things. Same with her knowledge of reading. The fact Emily could make sense of the amalgam of numbers that crossed the paper and the book was interesting in and of itself. Angelica smiled a little when she heard them say that nobody would hang out with a mute girl if they could help it, and she tapped her eyepatch softly in response once Emily was looking and she saw the irritated glint in her eye again. "I'm half way there, myself" She said, with a playful glint in her eye and a small smile on her lips. She was used to her disability hindering peoples opinions of her. Especially in relation to her job. But she'd long since learned to prove people wrong who had such opinions. She didn't let something like that get in the way of her. Although it wasn't easy. Particularly since, as a guard, she only had half of the most crucial aspect of guarding. Seeing threats.

But even with that, she knew that her half blindness was no handicap compared to Emily. At least she could speak, though all to often she didn't. Her and the girl that now owned her were from different realities, and now Angelica was going to have to learn this one. "Sorry to say, though, but Algebra isn't something I understand I'm afraid" She said with the small smile still on her lips, and a bit of embarrassment. She didn't like to admit that she didn't understand something, but it was worth letting her know. She didn't have any issues talking to her mistress... To Emily she corrected herself. That would take some getting used to. But she wasn't very good at talking, and, Angelica realized with a sense of grim humor, neither was Emily in the conventional sense. So she really had no excuse to be bad at talking, it was something else that she would have to work around, and that was all. And she would have to learn what this reality meant for her. "Pardon me for asking, but... What is eleventh grade?" She inquired. Her back was naturally rather straight. Even sitting she had been expected to hold herself with poise and elegance, and that was harder to do with a slouch. It made her happy that the girl wasn't intimidated by her... She hoped it would be the same when she got her sword. She hoped she would get her sword... She felt incomplete without her blade. It had become an integral part of her. She scolded herself a bit when she realized her attention was wandering. Focus. She said as she looked to the girl. It was important she learned about the world that her--... That Emily, lived.

Lauran smiled hearing the younger woman using her first name. Emily missed the smile the other girl gave her as she looked down briefly out of embarrassment of the older girl’s bow. Though Emily had looked up again soon after and caught the exchange between her mum and Angelica and smiled when her mum left them leaving the older girl looking toward her and smiled. She was glad when Angelica returned her hand shake saying the pleasure was hers Emily nodded her head, she couldn’t help but like the way the older girl said her name softly. She was completely unaware of the memories using her first name brought up. She started writing something but then wrinkled her nose as she scribbled it out beyond recension of being words.

Emily watched Angelica’s reaction as she showed her explanation on her math homework to the older girl and read her confusion. However, she didn’t know the extent of her confusion as to her it was all common sense and just how things went. Emily had no way of knowing life without going to school, or even knowing the terms and anything else she considered to be common knowledge things as a result of her going to school. She smiled when Angelica said she was half way in her situation she smiled and ‘giggled’ silently as she did the motions but her vocal cords made no sound. It made her feel a bit better seeing the playful look in Angelica’s eye and the small smile. As she’d been struggling to read many emotions from Angelica since they’d met and though Emily couldn’t claim to be the best at reading other’s expressions but she was still pretty good at it. After a moment or two she wrote something else on the note pad. “Then maybe we’ll understand each other better than others understand us.” She wrote pausing a moment to read it before showing it to Angelica.

Emily smiled and gave a small nod when Angelica asked about algebra and gentle took her text book from the older girl looking up a page using a the glossary in the back before flipping to the page with lots of examples and worded extremely simply and step by step along with the pictures at each step. She then took her note pad. “Maybe this will help, I don’t know how else to explain it. This example is easy enough to follow along… I hope.” She wrote handing the book and her notepad to Angelica, her writing style mimicked how someone might speak, using punitions for pauses and to separate her statements to make sense and be easier to read. Emily short of liked the chance to teach someone something she was good at, though she also wasn’t prepared to teach the math so she had more or less scrambled to find the example problem and even that one was a 5+A=12, showing how they got A=7 in the end. Then had a group of practice problems just as simple. She waited for Angelica ti have a chance to read her first note about the algebra problem before taking her note pad again when asked about what eleventh grade was she flipped to a new page before writing an explanation for that. “In school there are twelve grades because students stay in school for twelve years of their lives, not counting preschool and kindergarten. Each year you learn some old things in a slightly more complicated way you also learn new things. I have been in school for 11 years not counting preschool and kindergarten.” She wrote, taking a bit of extra time to write it down as she wanted to be sure she hadn’t missed anything before she showed it to Angelica.

OOC: Sorry it took so long and my reply is so short, I've been busy and stuff, and inspiration is lacking slightly, so I apologize.

Angelica smiled a little when she saw her mistress laugh. It was nice, although there was no sound and that made her feel a little solemn, it was interesting. She seemed so normal, she acted normal, even did gestures as that as if there was nothing different. Angelica's default face was a guard, but this girl couldn't have been older than a teenager... Maybe it wasn't necessary, at least around her. She gave her a moment to write before reading carefully what she wrote. Actually, it caught her a bit off guard. She felt strangely flustered as she looked at the words, and she wasn't quite sure what to say. She managed a soft "Well... That's the hope, isn't it?" She said. Not that she felt she'd have a hard time with Emily, in fact she reminded her so much of a past she thought she left behind, that it felt strangely nostalgic... It was easy, to be around her. Though her mother was new. That wasn't something she'd had before. Something about it was very nice... She felt comfortable here, and in a way that made her more cautious. To be comfortable in an unfamiliar environment wasn't good. That was one of the number one rules that had been enforced in her since she could remember... But here she was.

Angelica understood basic concepts of numbers. After all, as a guard she did occasionally have to help the burdens of her mistress even if she could do only small things. She understood currency and how to manage it in simple terms. And she had been told she had excellent problem solving skills, she had to as a guard, which lead to good critical thinking skills. She understood the concept once the 5+A example was introduced, that wasn't to terrible of a problem. But looking at the samples in the book compared to looking over at what Emily was doing was something else entirely. There were numbers that were smaller than others, more letters, parenthesis... All manners of things, and very little of it she understood. These simples ones were fine, basically finding a missing number. But as for those? Those were a whole different beast. She turned her attention to Emily's board, that was something that was different and would have to take awhile to get used to. She wasn't a very quick reader... But with this job that would be an important trait. She made a mental note to work on it. There was another problem. If she was supposed to be a guard, or a companion, it didn't sound like this school was something that she did from home... How could she guard her? It sounded like there was a prerequisite of eleven years of school before she could go into hers. Angelica was smart, but she didn't have that sort of background. And there was a place full of people who knew what Emily was showing her? She was older than her mistress ,she was certain of it. Although she looked younger, she was in her 20's. But here she felt out of place... Somehow young, she didn't understand this. People, she understood. As well as situations in which that was relevant. But these numbers? They were essentially a different language when they were arranged like that. She would have to discuss this with Emily's mother.

She wasn't sure what her job still was entirely. She had a better understanding of it, but that was failing her now. "That is very impressive..." she had to catch herself for a moment, she almost said mistress again. It's Emily now... Emily. "Emily. How old are you? You seem like you've spent most of your life in this school... When do you go to it?" She inquires. She was at home now, granted, she was doing work from her school even at home. In a way she felt a bit of sympathy. Angelica was a guard, pure and simple, but her only other mistress lived under much harsher constraints. Here, it seemed that constraints, though less harsh, were quite normal. It bothered her, but she didn't understand much about this and she couldn't change it if she could, and so she chose to say nothing.

Emily smiled and nodded when Angelica said that the two of them understanding each other better was the hope. Though she did tend to be shy, Emily wasn’t the shyest person out there but also wasn’t really the outgoing type either and typically found it hard to mingle with people, and actually hold her own in a conversation. Mostly due to the fact that by the time she wrote something down let alone show anyone the topic had changed already, or that she was often ignored all together, but also because she just found it hard to relax around others because people always betrayed each other. She’d heard it all the time growing up, when her parents had people over almost every time her parents stepped away the guest would complain about anything they could. Emily’s lack of speech included, though they never intended for the girl to be on the other side of the door, or just about to round a corner to enter the room to look for a snack or whatever she needed and over hear them she did. However she found it easy to ‘talk’ to Angelica and had relaxed without thinking about it, it wasn’t quite the feeling as if they’d known each other for years, but it also wasn’t like they were complete strangers either, Emily was just comfortable. Though maybe the fact that Angelica took the time to read her notes, and showed interest in what she was doing helped.

Emily smiled when Angelica said it was impressive and as she listened to her ask about her age Emily started to write, essentially writing as the other girl spoke. “I could show you more, you learn in steps so it’s easier than going from the example to what I’m doing.” She paused in writing and skipping a couple lines to indicate a response to the question about her age. “I’m 17, I’ve been in school for 14 years, so since I was 3.” She wrote before skipping another couple lines. “I go every day Monday-Friday Mum drops me off at 7:30AM and then I hitchhike home around 3:30/4PM” She wrote a smiley face before she mentioned hitchhiking and then after, a smile on her face. “Not, really, Mum picks me up around 3:30/4PM, and brings me home. I don’t ride the bus because it’s torture with all the kids talking really loud, and making fun of me for being so quite. And it smells bad!” She finished taking a bit of extra time to write as she added the little joke, but she didn’t care as she felt safe taking the time with Angelica as something told her that the topic wouldn’t change before she finished writing her response. She then showed it to the other girl watching how she reacted.

Emily hadn’t really had much time to think about it, nor had she not 100% put the pieces together that Angelica was there almost solely to protect her. Though, after writing when she went to school she started to wonder how it would work. Would the other girl go with her to school as a student? She looked like she could pass for a high schooler if they claimed she’d been held back a year or something, as she didn’t appear too horribly older than Emily but if that were the case than Angelica would have to pass the school entrance exam. Or would the woman stay at the house or run errands for her mum during the time? Some part of Emily hoped that she’d go to school with her, though at the same time she dreaded the idea as though she’d finally have a friend there it would only make the other kids tease her more, not to mention the thought on Angelica being teased for her one eye being covered even though Emily didn’t care she knew that it wasn’t what most people saw as ‘normal’ and so it made her stand out and they didn’t like it just as Emily being mute singled her out from the other kids and people didn’t like that. At least that was the conclusion Emily had come up with from watching people and how they interacted, or lack of interaction with her and other’s not considered quite ‘normal’ for whatever reason.

OOC: Again sorry it took a bit, been working almost every day last week and this, and my one day off I've been busy with other things/commitments so it's not really a day off, just a day I don't get paid for doing a bunch of stuff. And the layout is really cute! I like it! Haha

Angelica was surprised, she was feeling deceptively comfortable around her new mistress already... Around Emily. She had a certain charisma that was surprising. She didn't have it through words as most people did. But one of the key things that Angelica learned is that most of communication is non-verbal. She did find, that verbal communication was important sometimes to those with charisma. Not to Emily, though. She read carefully as Emily offered to show her step by step and she smiled just slightly. "Perhaps that might be best... But you should finish your work, first. Then I'll be happy to be taught if you still feel up to the challenge" She says with a bit of dry amusement. When she learned more about this school she waited until Emily was done writing, with a small smile at her comment at the end about it smelling bad, though she knew that wasn't really the reason why she didn't take it. She was more impressed at the fact that she spent so long at school, no wonder she could make sense of these numbers. If she learned that every day for.. Well, around seven hours, she didn't know how far away the school was, that was rather phenomenal. And then there is work after school is over. Technically Angelica put in more hours towards her training, but it wasn't towards knowledge so much as what it took to be a guard. And she was lead to believe that it was a special exception. But here there was many people who trained so vigorously. It was interesting... She wondered how many kids were a part of this school. "That's quite a schedule... Do you ever get tired of it? Do you get breaks?"

She still wasn't sure what to do about herself in terms of being a guard, and she wasn't given any details by her mother. However, she could also tell that Emily was about as confused as she was. She hoped that she would get some instruction soon, but she couldn't help but think that everything here was so mild compared to what she was used to. She wasn't certain her protection would be as necessary here... She couldn't really imagine how Emily would be teased for her deficiency, because to Angelica it wasn't anything too peculiar. She didn't know how school was. But as it was she wasn't sure what to do "Why don't you finish your homework? I don't think I'm going anywhere, so we can talk after you're done... I'd rather you not get in trouble" She says with her faint smile to Emily. She meant it, in the meantime she could find her mom to find out what exactly she needed to do here. Emily smiled and nodded slightly when Angelica told her to finish her own work than she’d be happy to learn. She’d already gotten pretty far in her math homework, and her English paper wasn’t due for another two weeks. She’d completed her other homework at school and turned it in before she left. Emily didn’t really have friends so it wasn’t hard to get things done faster like it was for the other kids who seemed to struggle to focus on the school work with their friends sitting a few desks away in the same room. She started writing down a reply “I only have three problems left on this assignment, then I’m done for most of the day with the school work.” She wrote handing the paper to Angelica as the woman asked if she got tired of school or got breaks. “It gets boring and that at times, but staying home would drive me insane, so school’s the better option. We have breaks, holidays are off, and a week in fall, winter, and spring and summer break is about two months long depending on the school.” She wrote, taking a bit longer to write her response. “I have the school calendar in my bag, it says when school is off, but not last minuet things like snow or bad weather days.” She wrote down a moment before handing the paper to Angelica.

Emily nodded when Angiclia suggested she finish her homework and they could talk after. “I won’t get in trouble, as long as it’s done tomorrow by the time my math class ends.” She wrote, her teacher did that so students could ask for help explaining a problem and to go over it before having to turn in the work. The teacher claimed it helped the students learn better that way than if they were being punished because they didn’t understand a problem, it also gave them extra time because the teacher knew other classed gave out a lot of homework sometimes too. “If you want you can look around the house while I finish my homework, I don’t know what room my mum was going to give you so you might want to find her.” She wrote in reply after giving Angiclia time to read her other note. Emily waited a moment before picking up her text book and note book with her homework and looked at her next problem. They weren’t too hard as the class had spent almost a week of those types of problems, the teacher wanted to make sure everyone got it really well before moving on to the next step. Emily made sure to pay attention because they were told that it would be on the test and they wouldn’t be able to look at notes, though any needed formulas would be on the test that would be the only extra help outside a calculator and other needed tools needed to complete the section.

OOC: Finally got some days off work but was out of town and no internet, because I needed to relax.

Angellica nodded her head. She was impressed with the girls studious nature. It seemed as though she could get a lot of things done in a short amount of time. She read her notes with a faint smile. Nodding her head "Then you'd best finish up. From the looks of things I'm not going anywhere" She says as she stands up from her position. Hesitating as she takes the last note that she was handed, reading it slowly before nodding once more "Excellent... I'd like to see it" She says with a bit of relief. She'd found often that if she could see the dates and the times that things happened it was much easier to plan her guard schedule around that. She was a very physical learner, after all. Seeing things kinetically laid out helped her quite a bit. She looked at the board and read her note about it just needing to be done before class tomorrow and she nodded her head. So... This school was fairly relaxed, in its own way as well. She was starting to understand... But why would so many people subject themselves to it? That was something she couldn't understand. She wasn't going to ask though, It wasn't her point to question. Simply to do.

Once she read the offer to look around the house she gave her confirmation "I'll do that, I think... I'd like to get familiar with it" And she wanted to talk to her mom to ask what she's doing here. Or, to be more exact, what she wanted her to do here. And what she could do about this school. ]"I'll be back" She promised Emily with a faint smile before she went to look about the house. She noted that her chains that she had set down were still in the main room, and so she picked them up and took them outside, setting them down against the side of the house somewhat beside the door. She'd find a place to put them later to train with them, but for now they were rather unsightly within the house. Once that was done she went to find Lauran. Which wasn't hard, she could hear her in the kitchen easily. Even without her enhanced hearing she could've heard it as she went to her, not wanting to disturb her she knocked softly on the door frame "Excuse me, ma'am...?" She asked softly. Her old habit kicking in as she mentally scolded herself, correcting it "Er... Lauran. I'm sorry to bother you, but I wanted to ask. With Emily... Am I a guard to her? Is it possible for me to attend... School, as well?" She asked, her voice hesitating a little on the unfamiliar word. Honestly this whole situation was so far off anything that she could have imagined, she would have enjoyed a little direction.

Emily nodded when Angelica said she’d better finish as she wasn’t going anywhere. Emily finished re gathering her things from where she’d set them when her mum introduced her to Angelica and she offered for the woman to sit down next to her. She looked up again as Angelica said she’d like to see the school schedule and she nodded in reply as she’d set down her not pad so she could grab her math supplies she’d set on the coffee table in front of the sofa they sat on. That was probably the biggest annoyance of being mute, if she was separated from her writing supplies she couldn’t reply to anyone more than a nod or shake of her head until she was able to grab something to write with again. Typically she carried at least two things to use on her but in her own home she often forgot as it was just normal for note pads and pencils to be in every room for her so she could relax a bit and not have to worry about carrying things on her every time she left her room for a drink or even just for a change of walls to look at. She had to be careful to have things every time she left the house but when inside Emily just wanted to relax. Emily nodded once again when Anglica said she’d be back. She waited a moment before starting back on her math homework, it wasn’t hard for Emily to refocaus of the work and before long she was lost in it unaware of anything around her.

Lauran looked up when there was a knock on the kitchen door, she’d finished the dishes and was getting the start of dinner out and the chicken would have to marinate until it was time to go in the oven, the chicken had been out for the last few hours thawing out from being in the freezer to keep it good longer. She smiled when she saw Angelica and listened to her questions, she was expecting the girl to have questions and be confused. “I’m sure you have questions, but I hope you aren’t too mad about me not wanting to get too into things in front of Emily, things have been hard enough on her and we, her father and I, have been worried but didn’t want to worry her too much by making a show of getting her a guard. Anyway your biggest job right now will be being her friend and being there for her. However you are also here largely to protect her, the other kids are rough on her and the teachers aren’t doing anything and there’s a new reason why they aren’t doing anything every time we talk to them. So yes, you will be going to school with her we will try and get you as caught up as we can but the school is already aware and expecting you as soon as we finish the paper work. Though you aren’t expected to be at the kid’s level right away but I also don’t expect you going in knowing nothing. I know Emily will teach you some, but we can also have a tutor to help you so you can also get something out of going to school.” She replied. The school was willing to cooperate as they were a private school and would do about anything to keep problems away with minimal effort on their part. Luarn sighed as she finished preparing the raw chicken for the time and washed her hands before starting to cut some vegetables for a stir fry. By the time she was finished everything would be done to where all she’d have to do later was throw it all together and cook. “If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I hope to get you going to school with in the next week, It’s Thursday so there’s only one more school day this week and they don’t do much over the weekends so the soonest I see you going will be Tuesday or Wednesday. Until then you can come with me to drop Emily off and pick her up from school. You can also use the time between to train as well as study the course work so you have some idea what’s going on. I think that will keep you busy but if you are still bored than we can find something for you to do.” She stated, her voice was kind as she spoke.

After cutting a couple more vegetables she looked up. “If you like I can show you your room.” She offered as she dumped the vegetables in a bowl she would cover when she was done cutting them up to keep them fresh till she cooked them. Normally she’d prepare dinner while Emily was at school but that day she had a doctor’s appointment, just a routine to make sure everything was fine so she didn’t get to the preparations but it was fine, she enjoyed cooking and preparing the meals. She worked from home so she had plenty of free time as they had a house keeper for most of the other chores around the house. She’d originally taken the work from home position when Emily started falling behind from other kids when she wasn’t talking by age three the doctors were worried and Lauran wanted more time to spend with her daughter and to take her to appointments to see if it was something to be concerned about and find a way to work with it. After Emily started school things were a bit easier but Lauran had found she liked working from home and kept the position, that turned out to be a good thing when they moved she was able to pause her work until they were settled enough in the house. She smiled at Angelica, she could tell that her and Emily had hit it off as Emily was still in the living room and hadn’t tried getting her attention after she left the two to get to know each other. “So what do you think of Emily? I know you just met her but I want your honest opinion about her, and your first impression.” She asked wanting to what Angelica thought about Emily.

Angelica nodded her head as she took in the scene of the kitchen, and also what Lauren was saying about Emily. She, too, wanted to avoid making things difficult for the mute girl. She didn't want her to be unhappy by any means, and so if that meant not going into things in front of her that was perfectly acceptable to Angelica. But as she listened to her expectations she felt a small bit of agitation. She had to work her brain more than her body. She was a guard, not a scholar... She knew that it would be good for her to do so. And if it was a stepping stone to be an actual guard, then that was something that she would have to do and she would do it. But she didn't like the idea very much. Especially the idea of having a tutor, that idea brought back to many memories. She would have to read up as best she could, and learn from Emily. "I understand." She said, watching as Lauren prepares all the food with interest. She always admired cooking, she found that those who cook often have such skill with knives. She was still a guard, a protector... But she imagined that she wouldn't really be able to rough up the kids at this school. She couldn't imagine doing it to Emily. She'd have to see the environment of this school. But she would do her duty one way or another. She had less than a week to get everything all sorted away. And she was going to get there as soon as she could. If she was hired as a guard, and her parents were willing to pay specifically for her, Then she'd have to do her best. She doubted she'd have time to be bored considering everything that she had to do over these next few days, and she was fully prepared to do so. "Oh, no... I think I'll be perfectly busy... If I may, I'd like to get started as soon as possible" She adds, looking to Lauren as she inquires. She didn't want to ask anything of her owners, but if it was relevant to her job then she felt as though she must. "What would I study, if I may ask? Do we have it?" She wanted to know if she could get started now rather than later. After all, she wanted to be as prepared as she possibly could.

Angelica watched Lauren cook for a small bit, and was slightly startled when she was told that she would be shown to her room. She'd have her own room? Really? How could she keep an eye out on Emily if she had her own room? She felt a small bit of agitation that she quickly suppressed. This wasn't her old situation, she must do her best to adapt her style and adjust accordingly... That brought something else to her mind. They bought her, which meant that they had a good amount of money prepared. And she wanted to prove she was worth their dime, but this was going to be hard to do in this situation... It also made how apparent an already unjust system actually was. Angelica knew for a fact that there were things beyond herself in the slave warehouse. She'd had to fight them many times, she knew that they existed. And if they existed, then that meant the slave warehouse definitely had them. Things like Angels, that she was also almost entirely certain could give Emily voice... But they did the best they could in her, a guard. All the more reason to prove that she could make herself worth every penny. She resolved herself more to these studies. Her mind would become her blade. She nodded her head "I'd be happy to see my room" She says, with a faint smile to Lauren. She'd learn well, and quickly too.

However, Laurens next question caught her off guard. What did she think of Emily? Her honest first impression, huh..? She thought about it, what did she really think of Emily? It was in her nature to be distrusting of people, and not let first impressions sway her. Simply because if she did, and lowered her guard, it could have been fatal... But Emily, for a multitude of reasons, she felt comfortable around. She closed her eyes for a moment to organize her thoughts before speaking. She wasn't good at telling lies. Honesty was the best she could do. "Emily is... Interesting. She charisma surprised me, I didn't think one could say so much without saying anything. She is very... Charming, and kind. She didn't look at me with anything other than curiosity... It was very different" She says with a bit of a faint smile. She did enjoy it though. "I think that there won't be any problems" She adds thoughtfully. She was interested by her new owner, there were some memories that having a girl like her was dredging up, but they were a small price to pay.
