Physical Description: He inherited his father's dark colouration but his mother's slender willowy frame and features. He is of average height for his age but utterly lacks any of the bulk of most boys, being all long limbs and narrow shoulders. He has an oval face that is more pretty than handsome with a small button nose and wide, thickly-lashed dark eyes. His hair is the rich dark sable mass of his father and falls in curly waves all about his face. He has a habit of hiding behind his hair when intimidated. His pale skin is easily burned at the start of every summer but ends up a warm golden tone from his long hours working outside with the beasts.
Personality: Quiet and somewhat introverted, he has few friends but those he does have he is very close to. He feels things deeply, perhaps a little too deeply and is often overwhelmed when too many other boys are around and acting boisterous. He loves animals of all kinds and has a natural touch with them, finding them pleasant company and very calming to be around. He most enjoys helping out the Beastherders and is a natural with animals of all kinds. His quiet and sensitive temperament is well suited to the subtle and intuitive nature of animals. Having been born at the weyr he has grown up with the doctrine of hard work and dragon care already in his blood, and despite his slender body he is a hard worker and will quietly and quickly do even the most unpleasant tasks during his duties.
Now that thread has returned, Alander is determined to do his bit and help the weyr. This desire, while uncharacteristically bold for the shy youth, may be partly related to his desire to clear his father's name, or possibly to prove to his bullies that he is not useless or tainted by who his father was. Alander himself doesn't blame his father, he barely knew the man, but no-one likes to hear ill spoken of their family, close or not.

History: Son of Brown rider S'kal and a Green rider named Dalessi, concieved during a Queen's Rising. He was born when S'kal was 23 at High Reaches, his mother was 26 at the time. He knew who his father was but S'kal was not only a fairly young rider and not at all ready to be a father, but with his own troubles he rarely interacted with his son. Such was not unusual in the weyr and Alander was raised in the weyr cresh, with no ill effect, as his mother was more interested in her career and her dragon than in an unplanned child. He was like any other boy, beyond his overly feminine appearance earning him the usual bullying from the other kids who were also being cared for by the weyr. It was not until S'kal got himself kicked out that who his father was had any real impact on Alander's day to day life. After S'kal left in disgrace, Alander found himself the butt of more malicious jokes and was bullied fairly frequently. Nothing overt or extreme, but enough to make an already shy kid into a rather withdrawn one. The only respite he received was when he was busy with his work or visiting the animals. It was due to this natural inclination towards animals aided by the unpleasant interactions with several of his classmates that nudged him towards the beastcrafters. Becoming a familiar sight around the pens and offering to help out. Over time his presence was taken as normal and while not an official apprentice, it is rare that he is to be found anywhere else when not in classes.
Other: He lives in the shadow of his father and while he doesn't know specifics, he has heard enough rumour and whisperings to know his father is in disgrace with High Reaches.
If he ages out, he will likely become a Feline handler.
