[・・・]
It mumbles, low and lonely, before growing still once again, as though having its chest implode and spear its own internal organs causes it no pain or discomfort. With Miyuki's back to it, it becomes motionless, and your approach garners no attention or recognition. You step up so close, and not so much as a breeze ruffles the hair on its head - as soon as your intent is apparent, it flinches. Red and Gold ooze-filled eye sockets look up at you, and it opens its mouth before you plunge your hand into the chest. You would encounter flesh-ripping shards of bones on impact - the fractured ribs more aking to splintered glass. Be it from the impact or the intent, the invisible membrane keeping the congealing fluid in the eye sockets breaks and a final gush of the liquids run out, leaving only stained, empty sockets behind. At the same time, the mouth splits open wider, and it screams an ear-piercing pitch right in your face - all the while your fuuin brand flares to a white-hot intensity. It isn't hers to take. The heart in Miyuki's possession pulses silently. The mouth goes silent as it lunges its head forward to bite your face, while its insides writhe around your arm. Tendrils loop around the metal, adorned with serrated thorns, and cling tight. This is not hers to take. The Sero Heart squirms within Miyuki, releasing an urge familiar to the Jiongu - to take. It's rightfully yours. Take it!

She was asked to wait, to watch the green-haired girl's back in case something went wrong. Evidently leaving the thing to die wasn't going to be the answer. If it weren't for the fact Kagerou was a friend, she'd have probably just left. Miyuki watched with mild amounts of intrigue and disgust as Kagerou rammed her arm into the Inka clone's chest. But things escalated quickly from there. Its eyes ruptured in its head, leaving oozing, empty sockets in their place. And then it shrieked, making Miyuki flinch, but also putting her on the defensive. Tendrils snaked their way from her arms once more, preparing to strike if the thing attacked Kagerou.

And then something spoke to her. Not physically, but on an almost instinctual level. Take what's rightfully hers. That would mean harming Kagerou. Take it! She could feel the heart she had just consumed writhing in her chest, and with it an overpowering urge to take, at any cost. Not unlike the feral side of her when she grew weak. The part of her she had managed to suppress for months because she didn't want anyone to think she was a monster. Far from the truth, though, isn't it?

The Inka clone lunged at Kagerou, and Miyuki simply reacted, releasing a cry of anger and frustration. Dashing forward, she threw her tendrils forward, around Kagerou, barely keeping herself from simply going through the girl, in an effort to block the attack, even if it meant the wilting clone would chomp the black threads instead. Regardless, she attempted to wrap them around Inka's head while anchoring herself with several more tendrils behind her as she leaped at him from the partial side. Assuming he made no motion to get out of the way, which she doubted, the tendrils wrapped around him drew her to his shoulders, legs wrapping around them, while the anchor she had made would keep him from falling backward. Of course, brittle body being crushed under her weight was a completely different story. "Fine then, I'll claim what's mine," she hissed, and tendrils poured from her mouth.

Miyuki was keenly aware of how terrible the picture looked, but she was a creature of instinct. If something threatened her or hers, then it didn't deserve to exist. Or at least, that was the extent that she could think in her state. The tendrils she released would seek out any opening that they could find and, barring any resistance, they would work their way to the metal shard and the heart, if this clone had one as well. Assuming nothing went wrong, she would yank both free of the body and release the remains.

[Idk how much chakra I even used, so I'll just deduct a chunk. lol]

User ImageThe Inka clone turning even grosser wasn't enough to deter Kagerou, nor were the shattered ribs that embedded into her hands like so many pieces of sharp glass. It was all temporary, even the searing pain that erupted from the palm of her white hand and the piercing scream that threatened to shatter her ear drums only caused Kagerou to grit her teeth even harder and make all the more haste. This much, she could and would endure. Not a single sound of pain escaped her as Kagerou's left hand tried to dig through some sort of writhing impediment. All the while, she kept on apologizing in her head,

Then the screaming stopped, only for another to begin. The corner of her eyes caught the signs of neck muscles tensing to lunge forward at her. She should dodge now, but, "Miyuki?!" Kagerou turned instead, the sudden, feminine scream causing her to fear the worst, . Her right hand came up to take the brunt of the predicted bite attack from the clone, but that turned out to be unnecessary, just as Kagerou turning her head had been. Miyuki hadn't been attacked. If anything, it was the opposite. Black tendrils shot past Kagerou, missing her by only a few inches. Kagerou had to grab at her bells and silence their ringing before she reflexively cast a defensive technique at the unannounced attack.

Miyuki had the upper hand here. Kagerou couldn't intercept the bite attack for Miyuki, not when Miyuki had been intercepting it for Kagerou. Even the, "Wait!" she shouted to get Miyuki to withdraw the tendrils guarding her didn't finish in time. Kagerou's left hand was outside of the Inka clone's body asap, though, its exit even rougher, and consequently more self-damaging, than the entry. Kagerou hissed in pain as her fresh wounds hit the air. Her hand twitched, made freshly aware of all of the little shards of glass embedded within and how even the smallest movements created a deterrent pain. Except, Kagerou wouldn't be able to call herself a kunoichi if this amount of pain actually did deter her. Briefly scolding herself for even pausing at this mere discomfort, Kagerou forced her hand to clench into a fist and then stretch out completely. Yeah, the thing that any medical professional would tell you absolutely not to do when you have something digging and ripping through your flesh, but after all of that really bad pain caused by such forced movements, everything after it was a lot more bearable for at least now.

In the meantime, she was pushed away by Miyuki's sudden entrance into the fray and watched, for the second time in the same day, Inka get straddled by a Jiongu. This time, though, it was vertically, so hey. Variety! Gotta keep things interesting! Also, ignore that this was just a plant version of Inka that had become almost unrecognizable and not the genuine Inka.

More importantly, and actually in character for Kagerou, Kagerou was just wondering if that was an okay thing for Miyuki's body to be barfing out tendrils. Wouldn't that just strain her throat? Plus, she's already shown that she could release tendrils from other parts of her body, they were out right now in fact, so why the mouth? There was also that territorial one-liner about claiming something or other. Where did that come from? D-did Miyuki actually really want to take the heart and metal from this Inka herself? Kagerou, so unwilling to do it herself, hadn't even thought that Miyuki might have wanted to.

A... er... little out of her admittedly shallow depth when it came to her knowledge of Jiongu anatomy and seeing that Miyuki appeared to have control(?) of the situation, Kagerou didn't try to interrupt. She just worried from the sidelines, while methodically healing her bloody and slimy left hand. Kagerou ran her mind through eacstep to regain her mental balance after the recent excitement, With each step thought, Kagerou flicked her right wrist in a few simple rhythms to get her bells to ring and properly mold the chakra as needed. A green chakra surrounded her injured hand and almost immediately cleared it of all of the contaminants. Then, as the first aura faded, another green aura surrounded her left hand and the muscles began to twitch without any movement from Kagerou as the tissues of... pretty much her entire hand undulated to push the various glass splinters out. This process alone was going to take Kagerou time. Quite a bit of it, too, and she wouldn't be able to heal her hand until after all of the glass was extracted.

It was especially going to take time because Kagerou relied solely on her sense of touch to herself, a benefit of being the one hurt. She forced her eyes to keep a careful watch out for Miyuki. Yes. Admittedly, it was "force." Past the concern for Miyuki barfing out tendrils, watching all of her tendrils enter every possible orifice in the body was not a very... pretty sight at all. Kagerou, regrettably, felt and looked like she might be a little sick, but she didn't stop watching. This, too, shall pass. Besides, Miyuki was basically just doing what Kagerou was trying to do.

• Specialist -The user chooses to specializing in healing medical techniques and gains a great boost to their chakra control in that area. At Chunnin, they gain a -5 chakra reduction to perform techniques in their specialty. at Jounin, -10, at Konin -15 at Sannin -20. To clarify, they they gain a -5 chakra reduction every rank, to a maximum of -20 at sannin. All medical jutsu are still learnable by both sides, but the chakra control only applies to the chosen side.

• Grand Performance - The user can perform both types of arts (ninjutsu and genjutsu) through their performance or instrument, often casting them at the same time (must pay for both techniques). Can perform D rank techniques through instrument at gennin, C at Chunnin, B at jounin, A at Konin, and S at Sannin.

• Learn Medical techniques one (1) post faster.

• Learn ninjutsu (1) post faster.

• Learn genjutsu one (1) post faster.

• Miracle Performance - Kagerou can perform healing eiseijutsu through her performance/instrument as if it was ninjutsu of the same rank. When performing healing medical techniques, she can target anyone who can hear her music with the jutsu. I.e. she no longer has to be within touch range of the target to use healing hands.

• Calamity Performance - Kagerou can perform offensive eiseijutsu through her performance/instrument as if it was ninjutsu of the same rank. When performing offensive medical techniques, she can target anyone who can hear her music with the jutsu. I.e. she no longer has to be within touch range of the target to use killing hands. Harmful eiseijutsu cast in this manner is guaranteed to hit as long as the condition of sound is met, but it takes one post to manifest its effects. In that time, the technique can be nullified by matching the energy (chakra/stamina/whatever else) cost Kagerou paid to use the entire jutsu, including any extra costs for additions/modifications. Those afflicted by harmful eiseijutsu cast in this manner become aware that if they do not spend the required amount of chakra/stamina, then bad things will happen to their body. The target(s) will have a vague sense of how bad the damage will be, but do not know what exactly will happen.

Dream Audience - Kagerou's dream is to help as many as she could. From this desire, the dream world manifested the power to multiply the recipients of all of her eiseijutsu techniques. With neither extra effort nor decrease in power, Kagerou can affect two extra targets for each eiseijutsu activation as long as they fulfill the requirements to be a target (i.e. contact for most eiseijutsu by default or sound when Kagerou performs eiseijutsu). Past the starting two, she must spend a total of 5(n-3)+10 energy split evenly between chakra and stamina for each additional target; n = number of targets. Odd energy costs are split with 1 more point of stamina than chakra. This additional cost cannot be reduced or refunded.

The Good Host - 1/2 off all implant chakra requirements.

Iryo-nin I - Kagerou receives a +1 dr [slightly modifier] to her eiseijutsu for each medical title earned. 2 medical titles = +2 dr [mildly modifier].

Mind and Body I - A sound soul resides in a sound mind and a sound body. To ensure the health of all three, Kagerou must master every aspect of medicine. Kagerou gains an additional medical field type. The additional type needs to be trained separately from the first.

Mind and Body II - A sound soul resides in a sound mind and a sound body. To ensure the health of all three, Kagerou must master every aspect of medicine. Kagerou gains an additional medical field type. The additional type needs to be trained separately from the first.

Evergreen Growth - Life always finds a way, especially when it's helped by someone who truly cherishes it. Plants cultivated by Kagerou grow as if the soil they are nourished by is +1 grade higher than it actually is. Unfertilized soil yields crops in 2 rl weeks. Low-grade fertilizer yields crops in 1 week. High-grade fertilizer reaches a new level of fast and yields crops in 4 days. (Post-acceptance note: I just realized that there is an Evergreen religion in this guild. I did not mean for this to be a religious PA in any way. It's just botany. I hope that's not a problem.)

[・・・]
The creature's maw was just about to snap shut when coils, black as oil, sprang in front of its teeth. Lips shivered and curled back, but the teeth did not clamp down. The tendrils in its chest remained tightly intertwined around the metal object, unrelenting as they were unforgiving with serrated thorns. The body of the "beast" did not move to dodge so its head was wrapped up as tight as weeds are to roots. As you lunge and land on... 'it,' you feel the body absorb the impact and remain standing even under your weight. You also experience the sensation of an entirely non-human aspect; it was slightly squishy, and familiar, reminiscent of the way your threads are sewn through your own body but softer, more pliant. Despite its decrepit appearance you feel life throbbing gently beneath the clamp of your legs. And it does nothing to resist you as you sewyourselfinside of it. In fact, the creature's body begins to part and it welcomes you to enter it. A physical part of you tells you so with a feeling akin to 'acceptance.' The Jiongu threads slip into the seams of the creature; the flesh of the mouth splits wide, following the natural line of teeth, all the way up to where the jaw hinge can be found, as though making way for your tendrils. The jaw splits open at the chin and opens inwards, folding and collapsing down and into the confusing depth of the back of its throat - and then that split open as the top of the head concaved down and into itself with a gut-wrenching crunch. All of this like some speed-up version of decomposition.

Something whispers without words while your tendrils wrap around an organ and metal; both of unknown compositian. A confliction, a disturbance resides... above you. As part of you. You have your own conflictions, however. This heart... it thinks. It feels. Its words are instead a gentle 'suggestion' on your own emotions. An instinct, primal in origin, has shivers of warning going of in that ancient 'lizard' part of your brain - and the warning seems strongest from above, where the canopy and trunk meet. Where the offices of most officials, shinobi and civilian, are housed. Where the office of the Mizukage Godaime is seated.

As you pull your new plunder free, and closer, you see the body beneath you continues to fold down and into itself - a sharp sound and it drops to its knees. A splintering of 'bone' and roots were growing from its shins, its hips slowly sinking and fracturing open not unlike a bud in bloom. Dark, thick leaves, covered in a fine layer of silken hairs, the size of an adult's torso unroll from the base of this 'blooming.' The new heart you have found welcomes your threads and the earlier sense you had is intensified dramatically as it nears the twin you already hold. There is a paternal concern and a coniving presence emanating from the mountain of a tree above you. And a hunger. In you. This second heart wants to be with the one inside you. Wants to be with the one inside Takeda. There is another in the Sero, around where the shinobi housing could be found. And two more, closer, just by the Father Gates. Take them, it tells you, and you'll know the power you feel surging through the Sero. What you felt was only a 'suggestion' with one heart in your possession, suddenly becomes a force of direction with two. 'No.' The paternal presence warns, and you feel clear headed. For a brief moment.

At your ankles a flower begins to bloom. As large as the previous, but instead of the shimmering. illuminating amber, the petals we're a deep, dark, velvet-like Red. The centre stems we're an eggshell white while vines and roots of a darker variety to the flowers you have seen bloom so recently snaked down and into the water nearby.

Kept Heart consequences for Solas/Dread:
> By keeping both hearts you suddenly find yourself aware of several things ...

1. The metal object you had pulled free from the sentient seedling is important. Take them.

2. The two hearts inside of you twist and writhe, working themselves closer and closer together until they were touching, sprouting slick shoots that reached for their sibling's own, and looked themselves together. And, as one, their rhythm noticeably changes from the hearts you feel nearby.

3. The heart beating within Takeda is calm, unhurried, and somehow in balance as much as it was also in tune to the two discordant personalities filling Sero. But it would beat so much sweeter alongside its siblings in you. So much stronger...

4. Your pair, however, only echo one of the pulses that repeat through the canopy as a living beat; hungry, angry, yearning to spread and consume.

5. You cannot recall what the other personality within Sero felt like anymore... Collect more hearts, collect the keys, and eliminate him...

That's right. He is what you hate. Not Sero. Not the Demon. Inka.

The move worked far better than Miyuki could have hoped for if she could think clearly, but since she couldn't, she simply dropped her hold on the Inka clone as it fell apart, a flower, red as blood, growing in its place. The color must have been caused by her violence towards it, rather than the calm exits the other two clones had. But it had driven her to it, the second it tried harming Kagerou. Yes. That's what happened. Her actions were retaliatory and that was it. She was terrified to think otherwise. Especially given the words that crept through her very being and made her tendrils writhe with some combination of impatience and hunger. They threatened to consume her, and she barely had the strength to hold them back.

She took a step back, absorbing her tendrils back into her body, and examined the strange piece of metal in her hands. The curved design told her the plate was meant to be circular, and the voice that now whispered in her head claimed the pieces were important. Take them. Her gaze shifted to Kagerou and Takeda, her eyes showing closer to red now than the violet they had been before. But then she smiled, any ferocity she'd shown a moment before melting away, as she focused on pretending what she had done a moment before never happened. As she suppressed the urges the combined hearts within her gave her for the sake of not harming her friends. "Hey, the two of you got something like this, too, right?" she asked, holding out her piece. Though the prospect of giving it away caused her grip to tighten even so slightly on it, and anyone trying to take it might notice the slight resistance. She pointed to the top of the trunk far above them, where the Mizukage's office lay. "I think we're supposed to bring these there. But we should find more of them--all of them. I think we need them for something."

Plus going there would lead her to the source of all of this. Removing the threat would stop it from spreading further, right?

And... and the other hearts should be reunited as well. Maybe she could even coexist with the tree instead of being afraid of it if she reunited them. But what did that mean for Takeda? As precious and difficult hearts were to get a hold of, would he give it up willingly?

Blood. Kagerou had it on her arm. That... that wasn't her fault was it? Her smile wavered, her gaze falling away. "I-is your arm alright?" she asked softly, and apologetically regardless if she was its cause.

User ImageTakeda's eyes had changed color and now Miyuki's had as well. Did the change signify something, like how the red of the newly bloomed flower signified a violent end, or was it just a random kaleidoscope of colors? A question like that was best saved for later.

For now, that smile on Miyuki's face was more important, or rather, what hid behind that smile. Instead of immediately answering the query on the metal pieces, Kagerou observed silently. It would have been best if Takeda had somehow filled the silence, but he seemed content to also remain quiet.

Then Miyuki directed the conversation to Kagerou's hand, which was still in the midst of healing. Waving away any worries with her good hand, Kagerou assured with her usual smile, "It's okay, this wasn't your fault. The inside of the Inka-lone is brittle and apparently resistant to anyone besides its chosen. Lesson learned, and my hand, and I will, live. Win-win~". Even if she wanted to say something more about the state of her hand, Kagerou couldn't without feeling guilty for lying. She wouldn't know the real extent of the injury, particularly any long term effects it might have, until she'd pushed all the little shards out. Had she spoken too cheerily? Possibly. She was distracted by the strange affairs of Miyuki, after all.

There had been four points when Miyuki's personality suddenly shifted. The first, when this entire fiasco started, had been acceptable, even if the fear towards the Sero had been a little extreme. Miyuki suddenly calming down all the way down to a completely different personality, though, had caught Kagerou off guard. However, there appeared to be no particular concern on Miyuki's end. The third time was when Miyuki had leapt into action. Initially, Kagerou wanted to simply classify it akin to the battle drive Takeda had shown in the arena earlier that day, but now she felt like maybe that decision had been too lax, too hasty, and trying too hard to be accepting of what both Miyuki and Takeda were, could do, and had to do. It had been the fourth shift in Miyuki's behavior that had let Kagerou accept her own feelings. Like many people, she felt more comfortable accepting something was wrong after seeing someone else express their own discomfort with the problem. In this case, that uneasy smile of Miyuki's seemed to betray her discomfort at her own actions. Kagerou just hoped that she wasn't just jumping to conclusions to suit her own world view.

What these four shifts could mean was not something Kagerou could just answer on the spot. The amateur doctor couldn't even answer if they were even relevant to the nagging feeling she had that told her to shower Miyuki with concern. However, since they were what her mind latched on to first, she felt some compelling arguments rise from a quick overview of potential causes and effects between each phase. ran the general gist of Kagerou's observations up until Miyuki asked about her arm, In no way had it escaped Kagerou's notice that Miyuki, once so unwilling to approach the Sero was now holding out her metal shard with such a firm grip and talking very calmly about reaching the top.

Kagerou thought to herself as she stepped up and used her good hand to grab the shard Miyuki held out, feeling the resistance from Miyuki that she expected, As slight as Miyuki's resistance might have been, Kagerou made no effort to take the shard away from even the weakest grip. Kagerou's own shard had been stowed away in the same pocket with the candy some time while Miyuki had been busy with her harvesting, and just as Kagerou had every right to keep her own shard, so did Miyuki have every right to keep her's.

It must have been strange, though. One moment, Kagerou was calmly easing any worries about her own well-being. Then, in the next, she had stepped up to Miyuki without a word. The entire time, except for when Kagerou came into contact with Miyuki's shard and looked down at it, Kagerou had been staring at Miyuki's face. If Miyuki had turned back to look at Kagerou, then the clear red eyes of one would have locked onto the nearly red eyes of the other. Her smile was friendly, as ever, but it was also more careful.

Kagerou's eyes trained on Miyuki's shard for a couple of seconds. Then she looked back up again, trying to catch Miyuki's eyes. Although, if that wasn't an option then she would just take in the rest of Miyuki's face. The medical shinobi could have moved straight on to business. That probably would have been the sensible thing to do, both considering time efficiency and even in the handling of the kaleidoscope of emotional states that Miyuki had just run through.

Except Miyuki looked like she needed a hug. Of course, this was a completely objective decision. Yes It's not like Kagerou liking hugs may have influenced her judgement or anything. This was a textbook medical solution in Kagerou's book. Releasing her hold on the shard, at least for the moment, Kagerou took a step forward and leaned in to give Miyuki a hug. Well, half a hug. It was a half of a hug less than what Kagerou wanted (for Miyuki's sake, of course). However, her left hand was still healing and Kagerou wasn't going to be so rash or rude as to bring an injured and bleeding hand into contact with someone.

Kagerou probably would have said something while patting Miyuki's back, but chances are that the hug would be rejected before she could even get out an, "Are you okay?". Then again, regardless of how Miyuki reacted to Kagerou's hug, that would be her foremost question, so in the end, regardless of what became of her hug, Kagerou would recover and ask, "Are you okay?" followed by, "How are you feeling? What are you feeling?" after a brief pause because the answer to the first question was far too likely to be a brief, "No," in these circumstances to warrant much worth being asked alone.

Miyuki kept a worried gaze on Kagerou, seeming unconvinced by her response regarding her hand. But her words posed another problem as well. Specifically, that the Inka clones were resistant to anyone besides the person they were meant for. She hadn't really noticed when she stole the heart from Kagerou's, but maybe because it had already presented its gift. When the green-haired kunoichi thrust her hand into its chest, that wasn't exactly a presentation. Given, though, that they only seemed to respond to a certain person, Miyuki understood what she meant.

Still, a little resistance wasn't enough to stop her tendrils, if that's what was required to collect the other hearts and shards.

Miyuki's gaze shifted to the metal shard in her hands as Kagerou reached for it. However, she gave up the moment there was any sort of resistance, which made Miyuki conscious that Kagerou was likely aware of her strange and erratic behavior. She had been acting strange, even for her normal behavior, which was strange enough in itself. Although she was barely conscious of her previous personality switches, the most recent one she was fully aware of since it meant potential harm to the people around her.

Miyuki locked eyes briefly with Kagerou before her friend leaned toward her suddenly, arms outstretching as if to grab her. Her aversion to physical touch--unless it was by her choice, apparently--didn't escape her in her frayed mindset and her reaction to the incoming hug was to create a wall of writhing tendrils that looped around arms and pushed the kunoichi away. Not violently, though, and in no way harmful. Whether Kagerou continued with the hug regardless or stepped back, she still asked a series of questions, evidently attuned to Miyuki's strange behavior. And the questions threw her off. She felt] fine. More than fine. But at the same time didn't. Something was wrong. Namely the weird twin heart beating in her chest, which called for her to find its siblings. At the same time, it was invigorating, coming with a sense of insatiability that barely kept her from dancing through her own friends with a bladed fan. She didn't want to hurt them. But the Sero wanted to see at least one person dead. That person was neither of the two standing before her now. Besides which, why was she the chosen one? She wasn't nearly as strong as Kirigakure's other defenders.

                                Oh, right, she'd gotten greedy.

Miyuki hesitated to answer, entirely unsure how to respond to Kagerou's inquiries. "I...'m not sure." How does one describe insanity? That's what this feeling was akin to, right? "I feel..." Her gaze returned to the metal piece in her hands, her grip relaxing on it slightly and her tendrils finally retreating into her flesh once more. Her lips drew thin and her brow furrowed, fighting past the thing that resisted her. "If I do something bad, destroy those hearts. The ones I ate." She set a hand on her chest and looked back at Kagerou once more. "I...should be fine, I think, if it does come to that. But these shards are definitely important. I can tell you that for sure."

User ImageMiyuki's rejection of Kagerou's hug drew a pout from the eager to hug medic, the kind that showed she was kind of sad but not actually hurt by the refusal. It was, of course, quickly replaced by one of her usual smiles. Kagerou didn't push for the hug, either. She backed off once the resistance was clear, as it was abundantly so with the wall of tendrils in her way. She wanted to remain pleasant.

It was just too bad that she honestly couldn't continue to smile pleasantly after hearing Miyuki's reply. It was fine, at first. Kagerou didn't mind Miyuki hesitating. It meant that she was taking her time to seriously think about the question. Whatever was said, the kind kunoichi really wanted to accept Miyuki's answer.

However, she couldn't exactly just go ahead and say, "Yeah sure, Miyuki, it's completely fine. Of course we'll be happy to rip out your hearts for you if you step out of line." That completely went against everything Kagerou believed in and the sour, grim frown that pulled down on Kagerou's features by the time Miyuki finished clearly showed her disapproval. If mentioning the shards last was supposed to be some sort of diversionary tactic, then it clearly wasn't working.

Kagerou left hand hung limply at her side. She had been continuing treatment on it, but the treatment stopped as her frown settled into its comfy new spot on her face. Not like the faint glow of medical chakra that had been easing the glass shards out was very noticeable in the first place, but it was another sign of how upset Kagerou was.

For a good few moments, the red eyes of the Uchiha stared hard into Miyuki's, her mind working through what to say. It was hard, though, no matter how she tried to think her way around her words, Kagerou found everything she could think of to say to be too rough for her tastes, almost verging on anger. was her problem.

"You two..." Kagerou ended up starting, her words preparing themselves in the little pauses that scattered through her winged speech. "Miyuki and Takeda... Is this a Jiongu thing?!". Oops, she raised her voice a little there, so she broke in a pause right there to regulate her noise level. When she resumed speaking in a moment, her volume was back to normal. "I don't like seeing even-" She forced herself to break there, having caught herself trying to force her own personal opinion onto another. "What I mean is, worry more for yourself, please... It's not right to think it's okay to take massive damage just because... because you think, 'Oh, I won't die,' or some reason like that." Anger was always quick to fade in Kagerou, and as the vexation gradually left Kagerou's expression, the worry and concern that had served as its base became clearer little by little. There was more Kagerou wanted to scold Miyuki about, at this point, even Takeda might not have been safe from the nagging to come. However, with a firm bite of her lower lip as she broke eye contact to look down at the ground and then up at the sky, or rather the dense canopy of the Sero, Kagerou reminded herself of the reality of this situation. Eyes returned to look at Miyuki and then to Takeda. "Miyuki and Takeda, there's definitely more shards out there, meaning more people who aren't trapped in pods like us. I want the two of you to go around the village together and try to find those people. Tell them about the shards, help them retrieve their shards if necessary, and have their shards brought here. Under no circumstances are either of your to take any more hearts from the Inka-lones,... and... if possible... I'd also like the two of you to stay away from the Sero until this mess gets resolved. Just in case... Miyuki, especially, and Takeda, it's just an extra precaution for you. Though, I'd also appreciate it if you could be the one to watch over Miyuki. If anyone knows what a Jiongu goes through when their hearts are destroyed, it would be you, so I trust you to make the best decision if, when, and how to act on Miyuki's... backup plan, in case it does come to that despite everything... In the meantime, I'll take our three shards and head up the Sero first.... Thoughts?". Kagerou looked uncomfortable with what she said. However, that could have just been because she expected both Miyuki and Takeda to disagree with her, or would either of the two remember about the messenger birds and realize that Kagerou was just trying to keep them busy and away from the tree that was far too likely to catalyze the newly gained hearts in an unfavorable manner?

Miyuki flinched slightly when Kagerou frowned, and expression she knew was unusual for the chuunin by this point. In fact it could almost be called anger that looked back at her, disapproval for her statement on something she herself still found hard to accept. The thought that she could just sacrifice a heart and still be fine. The prospect was almost terrifying, and Miyuki half wondered if that was why it made Kagerou angry. At the same time, she couldn't really reject the notion, not if it meant keeping everyone else safe from her. Her safety wasn't worth the risk of others, especially with the things she was feeling now, thanks to her stupidity.

You'll ruin it. On the flip side, this was about survival. She hated her weakness, but she hated that others might see her as a monster. A balance that was out of reach between embracing the thing she had become or refusing to let the thing control her. She wanted to live alongside it, not against it. But that required her to become stronger. Which meant more hearts. But if collecting those hearts just meant that she was a danger... He's the one who is a danger, not you. Right, collect the shards, get to the office.

Miyuki listened to Kagerou's words without looking at her, running her thumb around the metal piece in her hands. She was to go with Takeda, who had, up until this point, been silent. They were to collect shards but not touch the hearts, under any circumstances. Miyuki couldn't agree with that. The overbearing need to reunite them clouded her mind, even if sometimes she could see through it enough to know it was dangerous. Hence her warning to Kagerou during a moment of clarity. Hence the reason she wanted someone to stop her if she did something wrong. Because she would go after the hearts if she saw them. She might even go out of her way for them. But she was so unpredictable even to herself that there was no way really to tell what would happen.

Kagerou finished off by saying she would take the metal shards up the tree--a small feeling of possession passed through Miyuki but she suppressed it--and asked for their thoughts on the plan.

Takeda was, again, silent, and a sense of urgency seemed to be involved in the whole scenario. They didn't really have the time to think up a better plan. And to be honest, it probably was the best plan they could have. It was best for Miyuki to stay away from the tree. But that's where he is. Stop! Taking a sudden deep inhalation to snap herself out of her stupor, Miyuki held out the metal shard to Kagerou, offering it before she could change her mind. "It sounds like a solid plan to me," she announced, her lost confidence returning. Though it was somewhat forced, showing an effort rather than another shift in personality. If she just ignored her thoughts like normal, they couldn't control her, right? "I'll-- we'll send anyone your way once they've gotten their shard." She smiled broadly, and actually managed a grin fairly close to her natural bubbly behavior despite the fact it was fake. With a glance in Takeda's direction, she marched off to find other 'survivors' and their Inka clones.

~ I am the King of Hearts and the Jack of Trades

Takeda blinked when he was finally mentioned specifically. Rather than paying attention to what was going on around him, he was busy...experiencing the heart he received from that Inka clone. It was strange. Ever since early childhood it was him, his tendrils, and nothing else. Upon bringing in his first additional heart, he didn't undergo any dramatic changes. On the other hand, the most recent heart seemed to try and meld into his person on a deeper level than just supplying its chakra and element. Like another being was trying to coexist, and while he didn't quite like it, it didn't mean he wasn't going to try controlling it. I should probably save this for a time less urgent, probably when I'm alone too in case things go badly. For the time being, he switched over to his base heart, cutting off the chakra connection from the Sero-based one and losing that feeling of something else prodding inside his "network." "Huh? Is what a Jiongu thing? Did I ever tell you it was called Jiongu? Did you do research on me?" Snapping back into the situation, he curiously looked over to Kagerou, further proving that for the past couple minutes he was in his own little universe.

He scratched at his cheek as she continued, his eyes briefly wandering to the medical chakra working on a hand wound, however it was only a moment before he caught sight of her red gaze. It only took a few more words for him to catch on to what she meant by "Jiongu thing." It wasn't a surprise that she didn't appreciate others moving around with heavy wounds. He remembered the look on her face when he offered to carry Shadow despite being thoroughly wounded. Then his refusal to pay attention to anything regarding the shoulder wound he received from Inka. I know it bothers her, but I could probably also consider hiding my injuries with more subtlety if I really don't care for healing it, or maybe humoring her sometimes. He thought, before parting his lips to speak. There was a moment of silence, and her apparent frustration made him want to speak up in the interval presented, however he let her continue with her train of thought rather than intervene. Basically just information on what the group should do next. While he normally wouldn't be comfortable with her going alone to what was likely the center of the issue, he knew that others were likely amassing at that site. He probably wouldn't be of much use there. The next moment of silence was interrupted by Miyuki's deep breath, before she approved of Kagerou's plan. A smile broke out widely on her lips, a sharp contrast to the behavior she previously displayed. The appearance of expressions had no bearing on convincing others when the situation remained just as dreadful. She turned to leave, and Takeda wondered if he should just bite his tongue rather than say what was on his mind. No, this'll be an ongoing topic if it isn't handled bluntly.

Whether Miyuki stood around to listen or not didn't matter to him as long as Kagerou could catch his words. He took his turn. "Factually, yeah, it is a Jiongu thing. It's not just that we can revive depending on the number of our hearts, its also that we often times don't share the same physiology that humans do. She doesn't have stitches on her flesh, so she may be similar to me, while at the same time it seems her tendrils are very different from mine, at least in origin. I only have a fraction of a cardiovascular system, a full nervous system, a complete lack of a skeletal one, and fragments of miscellaneous mechanics that are normal in a human body." He frowned a small bit, a few past instances running through his mind, the emphasis on the difference between himself and other humans. It only fueled a particular train of thought that almost led him to leave the village.

Blowing it all off with an exhale, he continued. "Not sleeping takes its toll on me, but I can go throughout my life without eating a thing. My tendrils can serve as gauze, cover holes in my body, substitute torn muscle or replace all the muscle in my body if I so wished. Not for nothing, but if you count in immortality I'd say we have plenty of reason to consider these things minuscule. Personally, I just put things off until they become urgent because it's a bad habit I don't care enough to fix. My body can heal itself over time if it isn't an extreme situation, and at the very least I can go on awhile without seeking medical attention. I don't know her reasons, but it's been bothering you, so I thought I'd give you a "blanket" answer that might put you at ease. I don't want you to think we don't care about ourselves and what we go through. I also don't consider myself expendable, even if my hearts are. I like you, Kagerou, you've been caring and good to myself and others, but you should also consider how it feels to basically be told that you don't know how to take care of yourself." He didn't step away or turn his back, instead meeting her gaze intensely. It was a matter he wanted her response on before they went their separate ways, so they could finally reach the next step in getting over the issue, whether she had a counter-argument or acquiesced to his point of view.
"

I'll dress you in blood, my dear Queen of Spades ~

User ImageKagerou was never one to refuse eye contact, often being the one to initiate it. Miyuki had agreed easily, a lot more easily than she had expected her to, and it hadn't escaped the medic's notice either that the smile was too large. However, Kagerou thought it would be alright. Shea thought Takeda would follow along right after her and he, no doubt more than Kagerou could, would know what to say. That wasn't the be the case, though. Takeda stood and stared at her while Kagerou returned his gaze, unable to bring herself to do what she knew was expected of her as a chuunin of Kirigakure. She wasn't going to just start barking orders out to Takeda because what he had just said was important. While there was no question, Kagerou could feel that Takeda expected an answer from her, one that she felt an obligation, as a friend and not a kunoichi, to give.

Spending those few precious seconds, Kagerou's bright red eyes stared unflinchingly into the intense gaze of Takeda's now orange ones as she thought. "I...," she started, meaning to say that she didn't mean to, but she stopped there. Firmly, she closed her eyes and then reopened them, a long blink if you would. They returned to studying Takeda's gaze as she fixed the words she had yet to say, "I'm sorry."

That's right, she had done something wrong. She hadn't meant to assume anything about Takeda's and Miyuki's bodies. She hadn't even been asking about their bodies when she asked, mostly rhetorically, if all Jiongu were like them. The question was directed at the preference for solution via self harm that Takeda and Miyuki seemed so fond of. Of course, her disagreement of that way of thinking was, in itself, a way of her assuming she knew more about their bodies than them, or at least an implication of that.

Kagerou's answer was to basically acquiesce to Takeda's point of view. She could see how the way she did things belittled the other party. Not just with Takeda and Miyuki, but she realized now that the Mizukage had probably felt the same way and maybe Kumotake had as well. However, she couldn't simply stop poking her nose into others' businesses. Selfishly, she would rather continue worrying for others, even if it made her sound like she was full of herself.

To the best of her abilities, Kagerou tried to briefly explain her own side, "I'm really happy to hear that you don't consider yourself expendable. I want to just believe you about that. I just... I'd rather be too careful than not enough, so I can't promise that I won't talk like that again. My... um... For you and Miyuki, your bodies are your 'advantage' against others, and you both will train to stretch yourselves to the limits for that advantage. You and her both will naturally know your own limits better than me, but even then I'll continue to worry. I've... I'm too used to seeing people say that they're fine when they're not. Consider it my... selfishness to not see others hurt. Er... Anyways, in this case specifically, it looked like we could avoid trouble by just keeping you and Miyuki away from the Sero. Then... if something still happens... Well, I didn't spell this out before, but I trust you more than myself when it comes to making the decision to pull out Miyuki's Sero hearts because... I know that I might- No, I will hold off for too long... In fact... me being there will probably just be a hindrance in the end..."

Kagerou continued to look Takeda earnestly into his eyes as she spoke, even through all of her pauses. She felt no reason to be nervous or shy about opening herself completely to scrutiny. At the end, though, her eyes did leave Takeda's, moving down to look at her still slowly healing hand, pushing out the finest pieces of glass-like bone-substance that had lodged into it. She had admitted herself how she wasn't the best person to make sure that Miyuki was as safe as she could, and she couldn't help but feel ashamed by that. After a confession like that, she couldn't even bring herself to ask for Takeda's shard once more so she could quickly make her way up to the Mizukage's office. It was really hard for the girl to accept what she always knew: reconcile duty with what she wanted. She knew that it was just stupid emotions, even thought it quite specifically, Of course, she couldn't act on her own thoughts, or else they wouldn't have been had in the first place. Once Takeda began speaking, though, Kagerou forced herself to look back up. First, it was just her eyes, rolling up to meet his. A little after, though, her head also aligned itself to look at Takeda straight on.

User ImageTakeda and Kagerou weren't going to come to an agreement. At least, not so easily. It was a given that what they talked about wasn't going to be wrapped up nicely in a short discussion amidst an emergency. Kagerou would listen to whatever Takeda had to say, but at the end of it, she gave up her chance to give a reply to instead insist, once again, that Takeda give her his shard so she could head to the Sero ahead of him while he watched out for Miyuki. Depending on how bad the timing was, her misgivings about moving on from the topic would be heard in her voice, but she and he both had an obligation to protect the village, not chit chat philosophically. Takeda, for whatever his reasons were, would give Kagerou his shard, and with that, Kagerou would give him a quick thanks and a promise to continue the talk with him soon before turning and dashing to the giant tree.

It was as Kagerou headed to the tree that the shards began to... speak(?) to her? Not quite in words, but with a pull, a draw to the very tree that she already intended on running into. Kagerou's mind swiftly processed, but she didn't slow down. Almost as quickly as she felt the pull, she started to hear the... things.

There was a thud behind Kagerou and she turned, wary of a monster or victim. There was nothing. Then a thud came from her front while she looked to the back. Again, Kagerou's head swiveled to the mysterious sound, staring into the gaping entrance to the inside of the Sero. Again, nothing. By now, Kagerou had slowed to a stop. She could hear thuds all around her, echoing in the silence. The sound of something hitting the water, but where she could see the water, there wasn't even a ripple. It was just a sound, but how? How did she know from the sound that what had fallen was small, helpless, and unable to even swim? Who was it that whispered to her that the child that did not exist ceased to exist, enveloped in the dark waters?

Kagerou allowed herself to feel spooked for maybe half a minute before she clenched her first and turned away from the mystery. All she had gained was a sense of foreboding. It could very well have been that what she had heard was only meant to bewilder her, and if so, then it had done a great job. Kagerou feared that, more than just bewilder, it was a warning or perhaps a sign from the past. The latter only felt more true as Kagerou ran forwards. Yes, she was running forwards to help the Mizukage. There was no falsehood about that, yet why did she feel like she was running away? Why did a voice accuse her of never going back for the girl that didn't exist? This was... truly an intricate genjutsu, right?

Returning to the SERO mission board, Takumi scoured for something that would be advantageous to his cause. At the bottom of the board he took note of a mission listing that would seem almost too perfect. The misson involved going outside the wall the collect barley for a nearby group of bars that were starting up inside the village. " Seems like a legit business need. Maybe I can gather some research materials while I'm out."

Taking the mission listing, Takumi folded its documentation and stuffed it in his jacket pocket on his chest. He would swiftly move to the Father Gates.
