At first, I was not going to say anything, but in response to meditating on my daily chapter today (which happens to be 2 Chronicles 6), I'm moved to share:

Only God, with 100% certainty, knows who's sincerely born-again because He alone sees the heart / the inner-most being of a person. But regardless of whether or not he is born-again (though especially if he is), YHWH will not tolerate people (regardless of what nation they are from, Israelite or Gentile alike) approving of false ideas—especially the more they know (thus are not blinded to). If we approve of deviance (or speak in a way that could mislead into deviance), then we invite His earthly judgment—being made an example out of for the rest of the people to learn righteousness, and thus walk in the Right Way, by seeing how entering the wrong way was punished by God (which He does through natural circumstances at the hands of His creation)—especially if we're in a position of leadership/teaching, and especially the more we know:

      • Luke 12:47-48 (NIV)

47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

      • James 3:1 (NIV)

3 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

      • Acts 12:22-23 (NIV)

22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

      • John 9:40-41 (NIV)

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”

41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

      • Judges 3:12 (NIV)

12 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel.

      • 2 Chronicles 6:26-27 (NIV)

26 “When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and give praise to your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them, 27 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.

      • 2 Chronicles 6:28-31 (VOICE)

28 If disasters, plague, or disease strike Israel—famine, pestilence, blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or military attacks at their gates— 29-30 then hear from Your house in heaven the prayers of every man (for his own sins) and the prayers of all Israel (for the sins of the nation) offered up with outstretched hands toward Your earthly house. Forgive or punish each man (whose intentions and heart only You know) proportionate to his behavior, 31 so that man will fear and obey You as long as he lives in the land that You have given to his ancestors.

      • 2 Chronicles 6:36-42 (NIV)

36 “When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to a land far away or near; 37 and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong and acted wickedly’; 38 and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their captivity where they were taken, and pray toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and toward the temple I have built for your Name; 39 then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their pleas, and uphold their cause. And forgive your people, who have sinned against you.

40 “Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

41 “Now arise, Lord God, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
May your priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.
42 Lord God, do not reject your anointed one.
Remember the great love promised to David your servant.”

      • Malachi 2:7 (NIV)

7 “For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth.

May God have mercy on him, teach him the right way to walk in, give him discernment to know why this has come upon him, so that he avoids this kind of earthly judgment from YHWH again. If he is set-apart to God (and even more, born-again), then there will be less tolerance for deviance, though He punishes/corrects everyone on earth.

      • Proverbs 11:31 (NIV)

31 If the righteous receive their due on earth
how much more the ungodly and the sinner!

      • 1 Peter 4:17 (NIV)

17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

And as we saw with Herod, even the things we think, and/or refuse to correct verbally, invites His judgment/correction.
