Tired and weary, Midas’ looked onward at the pride of Viking warriors almost distastefully. The smell of the drunken idiots was enough to turn his stomach, yet the real reason for his disgust was his dueling partner. Black eyes drifted over to look at his opponent, Solfrid. Was this Cythraul’s way of ‘matchmaking’? Taking a deep, deep breath, Midas left all the air out slowly before pacing forward. Not all duels had to end in fighting, perhaps they could come up with another way to show each other’s brawn?

“Well, what do you suggest I do to prove my mettle, Solfrid?” Midas still couldn’t help but feel like this was some sort of cruel joke, though he didn’t by any means underestimate the lioness. No, what worried him was the glances she gave him occasionally while they had been travelling. That pining look of pent up emotion and tension.

She was beautiful, but the daughter of someone whom he had found some respect in. Someone he wasn’t interested in feeling the wrath of. She’d have to say something first…

Digging his claws into the ground he stared at a pile of rocks and smirked. “Perhaps instead of fighting you and I could see whose better at building?”

It had just been a few days since her, her father, and her brother had met Midas and the little band he had. The male was coming here for a challenge in and she wanted to see whether or not he had any iron in his blood or if there was just bluster in his mane. She hadn't really expected to be the first one up in lieu of Midas getting to the pride's lands but it seemed she drew the short straw.

"Yer ready fer yer askorun den?" Seeing him get ready, "Ye jus' 'ave ta beat me and yer able to walk inta dez lands. She liked his male and hoped that she might not mar his pretty face. Though maybe just a few to make it so he at least looked a little more worn. She liked a male who wore them pretty proudly. "Well, come on mate. Show me what ye got."

Welp, I seemed as though the young lioness had indeed wanted to fight rather than challenge him in another fashion. Sighing softly, Midas stared at the pile of rocks longingly, he rather liked his idea… “Alright, Solfrid. I am coming for your then.” Watching her quietly, the lion charged forward, springing off a boulder and straight for Solfrid, claws open and ready to strike at her side.

He didn’t want to harm the lioness’, he kept feeling anxious about marring her or going to hard and it showed. Even upon impact, Midas attempted to quickly leap away rather than make for some form of assault.

Her first ever askorun. Though this was the way of the pride to see who would be good to get in, she was actually hoping that maybe to show off a little. How she might be able to see just how strong she was from training with her father and siblings. Unsheathing her claws she was ready to show her mettle to an older male.

A roar as she felt the claws of the other cut at her side and she swiped back at the other, hoping that she would connect just a little maybe just a touch at his side. The blood welled at her side and she gave an angry yowl at him. Alright, he at least got a good first hit in. Hopefully she would at least give him a cut with her back peddling.

Feeling claws meet flesh, Midas frown, there was only a touch of blood from the cut, but it was enough to send a small shiver down his body. He had to move forward if he was ever going to make it in, but he still didn’t have the heart to fight. The rock idea was just so good. Speaking of rocks…

Staring at a nice sized stone, Midas smirked and chucked it at Solfrid. His hope was that it would hit her hard enough to stun her so he could create more distance. It wasn’t like him to run away like he was, but he certainly wasn’t interested in leaving the poor lioness’ scarred either. He had to win, that’s all.

Looking at the pride, he watched several lions in the background, one especially catching his eye. She looked similar to Hesper… but her eyes. Watching her for several seconds, Midas lost sight of what he was doing, a price he would surely pay soon.

A rock? Did Midas really just throw a rock at her? She felt the blood drip off her forehead. Not exactly something that might scar but it did hurt. She roared the roar of a lioness who felt a scorned love. "Midas..." The words were like fire as she spoke them, "Thas all ye got is a rock? Come on an' really fight me." She bristled.

Then she kicked up the sand about them, hoping to blind him for a moment. He was fighting dirty, well so could she. Again, she roared at him and charged. No way was she going to go easy on him now, no way. With her size she was going to slide under him and swipe his paws out from under his own weight.

The first roar was deafened by his infatuation for the lioness in the crowd, however as soon as his name was called Midas went completely ridged. Snapping his head towards the direction of the sound, he all but immediately got a face full of sand. Feeling both his eyes and nose water, the lion gagged, all too conscience of how awful he probably looked in front of the crowd right now. If only he how awful he looked now would be nothing compared to how he’d look in a couple seconds.

Blinking and pawing at his face, Midas kept backing up, attempting to avoid Solfrid and her imminent attack. Only, instead of avoid her, he all but allowed himself to be open to her sliding assault, landing him face first in a pile of sand and rocks.

Laying there for several seconds, Midas felt like a complete idiot. He could hear the chuckles and booing of those in the crowd and could make out both Dhobaru and Yora’s howling laughter. His pride was on the line. Growling, he pulled himself out of the dirt, shaking his mane out.

“I shouldn’t have been so careless with you…” Taking a deep breath Midas readied himself for another attack, this time absolutely ready to counterattack.

"Careless mate?" She asked before assaulting him again, where was the fight in this male? Was it just because she was his opponent?Maybe she should bring it down a notch. No, foolishness. She was a viking. She was also a pirate. No backing down on a fight. "Come on!" She roared again, this time diving at him. Just going for his legs again. Another swiped at him, make him grovel. She hoped he wasn't going to always seem to weak. The male had potential that she hoped maybe her father could bring out.

She had hit him pretty hard with that last attack to the leg, however it just caused him more frustration than anthing. Snarling, Midas' felt the temper he had tamed flare up and a spark of energy flush through him. Unsheathing claws, the golden-maned lion let it slip to the lioness that he had indeed been hiding his full potential as he barreled at her with one massive attack. One that took more energy than he should have used.

Tearing at whatever he could get his paws on, Midas felt his energy flattening out and soon a sensation akin to a wet sponge drying out. Taking a deep breath, Midas felt dizzy from his punch-drunk state. Did he even hit her?

The female roared in anger as the breath escaped her lungs from the attack Midas had made against her. The male did have some fight in him then. At least that was something. She didn't look down on him as much as she did before but Sol wasn't going to back down. No more dirty fighting. Instead of however using her claws she sheathed them and went to smack his face. Better to try and knock him down for one final thing. Already she was feeling tired from using up so much energy.

Midas was already sapped of energy so the fairly light smack to the face was all it took to send him falling. Fluttering eyes Midas watched the beautiful golden lioness and the silvery eyes of the celestial goddess behind her fall out of view as his vision turned black. If only Midas knew his second match was already awaiting him.

One last hit. She flailed at him but she was far too tired. Solfrid could tell he was tired and although she felt weak the female pushed herself to her paws. She was Stormborn, not some weakling. Her silver eyes looking at him.

"Better luck next time mate." Giving him a little bit of a pat. "Take a minute an' right yerself."

At least Midas would have another shot. She just wasn't sure who was pulling the next straw but she had done her part. At least she had actually seen some fight in this male and it had put him in her path again. Now she headed back to the pride to let her father and brother know to see which one of them might help out their new friend.
