Morning were not typically misty at High Reaches. The Weyr was situated too high up in the bowl of the dead volcano, and what clouds settled down to the ground were below the ring of stone that made up their home. In winter the mornings were dark and bitter cold, but summer found them cool and clear and crisp. Invigorating and inviting for even the most layabout weyrfolk. The sun crept up from the horizon, but took longer to crest the ridge of the caldera—by the time the sun itself was visible the morning was well underway—so when Uridith lifted her head from the warm sands of the Hatching Grounds, the sky was still filled with the pale hues of very early morning.

Lestenna come, come please very quickly. She sighed, eyes blinking from sleepily shut to wide open and awake in an instant. Deep vibrant blue surged through the whirl of conflicted colors and the gold swung her wedge-shaped head around to gently nose the bronze beside her awake. Takarath? I'm sorry, dear one, but it's time. Bring your V'kenti, won't you? Our children are coming, and soon they won't be our own any more. Come, sit awake with me for this last morning alone with them. The gold's mental voice began to mingle with an audible sound, low at first, then swelling louder, stronger, more glorious to herald the sunrise and the eggs' first trembling wobbles.

Her hum would soon enough be taken up by every dragon in the weyr, drawing those already awake from their breakfasts, and pulling those still sleeping up from their cots.

Mornings were some of Takarath’s favorite times. He loved watching the sun rise and the light begin to flow over the land as everyone was waking and beginning their days. It was the calm and quiet before the hustle and bustle of the day. Taka had been awake before Uridith got his attention but had kept his eyes closed and body still so as to not wake up the gold next to him. With her words, however, his eyes popped open in surprise before he settled.V’Kenti. Lestenna has already been called I'm sure but Uridith says it's time. Come. Taka nosed Uri in return before simply leaning his head against her. It's selfish of me to wish this day to wait, our children deserve to find theirs but at the same time I don't want to let them go. Soon, he joined her call, slightly deeper but the two voices joined harmoniously. V'Kenti was already awake of course so Takarath’s call only caused him to place the book he had been nose deep in on the table, as he likely wouldn't have time to read it anyway, as he strode purposefully towards the sands as the first hums were heard.

General Hatching Information

Welcome to High Reaches Weyr (and Echoes of Pern) first PC Hatching! We want to thank everyone for participating in this shop and giving it so much life! Fable and I wouldn't be here without you, so thank you for sticking around. That said, we do want to go over some general rules (IC and OOC) and reminders so this Hatching can be a success!

General Information & Rules
  • Not every Candidate or Player is going to Impress. Please, please, please don't get too discouraged or upset if that is the case. We only have a limited number of pets to give away, and honestly tried to find the best fit for each dragon. There will be other Hatchings, I promise. gaia_star Many, many, many other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if Staff impresses a dragon. We try not to take away from the players fun, but staff are also players, too. Any dragons that might go to staff were either customed-in behind the scenes or chosen simply because their Candidate was the best fit. As stated above, there will be other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if your Candidate does not Impress to your preferred color. Just like in Pern, nobody could ever guess whether or not a Candidate Impressed, much less a certain color. This is supposed to be fun, not some sort of tragedy. If you don't like the dragon that we fit to your Candidate you absolutely cannot rehome it or give it away. Additionally, if you throw a fit about it and we find out, or you discourage other players, this could bar you from future Hatchings. We honestly tried very hard to match Candidates with characters so the fit mad sense.

  • Don't discourage others or vent at them if they Impress (or don't Impress) a dragon or certain color. If we hear about players giving other players crap for their Impression, we can bar you from future Hatchings. There will be other characters, other Hatchings, and other opportunities for all! Please keep this fun and support one another, not tear folks apart.

  • We really, really, really, really loved all of your Candidates! No really, Fable and I hemmed, and hawed, and went back and forth, and back and forth for days. In some cases, Candidates may not have Impressed because we have ideas for particular colors or personalities for them. If you do not Impress, we are aware, and we have big ideas for the future. Please give us a chance and be patient.

  • IC Action = IC Consequence. If you role-play in the Hatching and your Candidate does something stupid, remember that ICly there could be hell to pay. If a dragon doesn't maul you, then Gr'del could very well pull you from the Sands. Please don't make Gr'del do that. He is already in deep water after the Touching. He doesn't want to lose his job, then lose his boyfriend, and soon after become the local drunk. Lestenna is already probably ready to kill him anyway. Let's not add fuel to the fire. He is the nice one... compared to V'mel, at any rate.

  • We will hatch all the PC eggs and play the hatchlings until they Impress. Once they Impress, they will be the players to control. We will quote folks in the Hatching Sands, but also PM them the dragonets profile.

  • We will announce when the Hatching is closed.

  • Everybody is encouraged to participate! Bring your weyrfolk and holdfolk to watch by having them sit in the Sands and cheer. Candidates, whether they were at the Touching or not, should be on the Sands an will be assumed to have arrived regardless if you have time to post them. Dragons can perch on ledges to watch the newest babies, and comment to one another. Guests and visitors will be flown in -- from mighty Holders to the families of those hold- and craftbred Candidates. Come one, come all -- even the lower cavern workers, while some might have volunteered to help behind the scenes for extra pay, are also encouraged to watch if they wish. It's up to you! This is a time for celebration.

  • There will be a Hatching Feast thread for Candidates to console themselves, the newest weyrlings to mingle and introduce themselves to one another, and all the Weyr and its visitors to rejoice. This will open after the Hatching thread closes/ends.

IC Rules & General Information
  • Candidates can get mauled, so they have been told time and time again to stay out of the dragonets way! If they art attacked, they are to try to cover their head and protect their vulnerable bits, but should not really fight back. That might upset it further.

  • Guests and visitors CANNOT enter the Sands. Those who arrive late will be ushered to seats closest to the entrance, or asked to stand at the entrance itself, or just wait outside. Any person who is not a Candidate that tries to get on the Sands will be removed, unless (of course) a dragon is attempting to get to you.

  • Do not break into eggs! Period.

  • Candidates are asked to arrive on the Sands with a thin pair of sandals but no boots or heavy soled shoes! The Sands are hot, so standing from foot-to-foot is common.

  • Candidates will be brought to the Hatching Sands by Gr'del. Should they Impress, they will take their dragons outside of the Hatching Sands, where the Weyrlingmaster and assistants will have prepared meat to feed them, buckets and brushes to oil them. The weyrlings things will be moved from the Candidate Barracks to the Weyrling Barracks by drudges/weyrfolk.

  • Visitors and guests are invited to stay for the Hatching feast and riders will bring them home when finished.

Any other questions? PM Masterharper or Fated Fable! With that, welcome to the Hatching!!

It had been early, but Gr'del had been anticipating this moment for the past sevenday. He was naturally an early riser given his position as Candidatemaster, and had grown accustomed to early mornings and late nights. When his brown stirred from slumber, he didn't think much of it, until Siriath suddenly began to hum.

It was a low, deep sound, and one that was well familiar to the brownrider. Mine, it is time. Shall I wake the Candidates? There were other hums now, and every passing moment seemed to make the vibrations louder, which was to be expected. The dragons were welcoming the newest Hatchlings to the world, and as more and more dragons woke to the realization that today was the day, the sound would only get louder.

"Tell them to hurry. I want them cleaned up and in their robes now." Today was the day. He would be down twenty-two Candidates, but had so many more left to comfort. Worse, there would be others that he would have to say good-bye to if they did not walk away. But, not everyone found their match.

Quickly, he ran a brush through his hair, downed his morning cup of klah, and went to wait for the Candidates outside. They knew the drill. Today was their day to shine.

Siriath made sure to call out to all Candidates, and paused in his humming only to trumpet outside the Barracks. Good morning, friends! Wake up! It is time. The Hatching is here and your dragonets need you! Hurry and clean up, get into your robes, and meet outside as soon as possible! Hurry all! They are hatching! The babies are hatching! The browndragon couldn't help but sound elated, as if the babies were his own. He loved children, be it dragon kind, or human kind, and his excitement was apparent.

~ ~ ~ ~

((Skipping ahead, but feel free to post whatever you need to to get to this point and beyon...))

Once all the Candidates had arrived, Gr'del wasted no time bringing them to the Hatching Sands. Siriath walked with the group, as if seeing them off to their first day of lessons.

The humming was almost painful, but those clests to the entrance could tell a few eggs were already rocking and twitching. None had hatched yet. The sands were almost too hot to stand on long, and the Hatching Grounds were filling up fast with visitors, family, and guests. Riders and weyrfolk alike were taking seats, and D'mon and Zheria were already present in their gather best. Dragons of very size and color continued to appear with more and more guests, and the excitement of the morning was palpable.

Gr'del paused at the entrance to the Sands, and turned to look upon his white robed charges. "Remember to bow to the parents, and don't be afraid if Uridith is upset. She will not hurt you. Remember what I've taught, and be careful -- hatchlings can be very aggressive and easily upset until they find their partner. Don't try to force yourself on them, let the dragonets come to you. For those of you who find your partner, it's been an honor to serve, and I wish you the best with your new lifemates." With that, he nodded to the Candidates, and allowed them to enter the Hatching Sands.

Being awoken by a dragon's voice in your head was enough to make anyone fall out of their bed. Goran jerked awake with such force that he'd slammed into the ground like a sharding deadglow, scrambling to his feet as he hurried to find the white Candidate robe that he had been given. It was too small for him, showing his ankles and the bottoms of his calves, but he was hardly thinking about something as foolish as that. Wasting no time in grabbing his thin sandals, he hastily bathed himself before he dressed and practically flew outside.

There had been no time to eat, but honestly, he didn't think he could swallow anything even if he tried. His stomach was in knots from anticipation, and even breathing felt rather difficult. The low hums of the dragons seemed to pulse through his very bones, and Goran stumbled over his own feet as he listened to what Gr'del was saying. Don't be afraid. Taking a deep, steady breath, the young man clenched his fists and forced himself to straighten before he stepped onto the Hatching Sands.

The searing heat was enough to have him awkwardly shifting from foot to foot, and at first, the sight of so many people was enough to have him freeze in his tracks like a startled runnerbeast. Before he could let his anxiety get the better of him, he realized that the eggs were moving. Some of them, anyway.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, Goran bowed deeply to the gold and bronze dragons who were the proud parents. Shards, shards, shards. This was really happening.

Yes, he thought faintly to himself, it was good he hadn't eaten. Throwing up in front of so many people would have just made him die from embarrassment. His face automatically arranged itself into a truly intimidating scowl, masking his true feelings. Now was not the time to doubt himself. He could do this. He would do this.

Ever since the overly eventful Touching, Ichta had barely been able to get any sleep. While it was good for the tapestry she ever worked on, it was less good for the dark circles that had already existed under the young woman's eyes. She'd barely put needle to fabric that morning when the sound of a brown reverberated through her head and she looked up.

It is time.

Her insides curled up into a tighter wound knot than they had been all week and it was with a deep breath that the young Weaver set to the task of cleaning herself up.

------

A cleaned up Ichta was not very much more impressive than a normal Ichta, with her dark hair still as wild and messy as it would have liked, but left loose for once to fall over her shoulders. It was only undone that she realized just how long it was. She'd need to cut it sometime soon, at least. But she needed to keep her mind open, positive, and not worried about everybody around her unto high-skies.

She recognized a few of the other white-dressed figures. Yet it was a very specific face she sought out in the group - just to know he was there, standing and ready to go as well. As long as Goran was there as well, she could see how much weight her high thoughts of him had held. Would he impress one of those eggs he'd told her he liked? Would another touch his mind? Ichta easily found herself more wrapped up on his behalf than her own. What happened to her would be what it was....

But she reminded herself to clear her mind and fill it with positive thoughts again as she bowed to the Clutchparents, following after the Candidatemaster 's lead.

Settling onto the sands would be the most difficult thing she'd do for a while. At least Ichta hoped it would be. Fortunately, Goran was relatively easy to find and perhaps only for the sake of her nerves, Ichta settled in next to him, looking up at him with a hopeful smile.

"Good luck." she said quietly, then turned her eyes back to the eggs.

Luiciand was already up and contemplating seeing if he could rope someone into some fighting practice, when the voice they had all been waiting for floated through his head. The Hatching had arrived. Quickly he was ready to go and off marching to his fate. It felt weird, but good.

Once in the sands, he did as he was told and bowed to the Gold, the bronze and bowed to riders as well, before fanning out around the edge. He looked around to see if anyone he knew was close by before turning his attention to the eggs. He looked over at the Moon egg and the yellow one it had hit ot make sure they were all right, even though he was sure they would have heard about it if the eggs were harmed.

The heat from the sands was already working its way through his sandals and into his calloused feet. Luiciand refrained from shifting to obviously yet. But he knew that it would not be long now before they were all hopping around. Hopefully by that time there would be dragons on the sands and reasons to move about. It would be rather undignified otherwise. Sweat crept down his back already as well. Well, at least he could handle that.

Vitre

Vitre was almost as fast to the sands as the candidates. IT was hard to curb the interest and excitement of youth, even for someone not involved at all! His mother had been right about the date, and had been called up the day before to bring all the cakes and pies and baked goods she could muster. They'd been called on to stay as well, and make more and more, as this would be the first post-thread hatching and feast, and they'd surely need the surplus. Vitre had barely been able to sleep, he was so excited just to be in the weyr at all, and he and Nebbi, who'd come along with her uncle as well, had sat up most of the night before talking. There was no being tired this morning though, not with eggs apparently about to hatch!

He and his little gaggle of friends and family were bustled up into the stands, and more than once his mother had to nudge the young man along as he stopped to gawk at the utterly massive gold and bronze pair down on the sands below. "She's the biggest thing in the whole world!" He half whispered, half squeaked to Nebbi, pointing at Uridith as if he could mean anything else at all. "I didn't even know they got that big! I mean, not that I've ever seen a gold this close before..." And the eggs? The eggs! There were just so many, and all sorts of sizes and colors. How could anyone know what was going to come out? Or who they'd go to? His mind danced back a few months to a chat he'd had with Nebbi in the hall of High Reaches Hold. One would be just for her, he'd like to think. The big gold one, because of course it would be!

Only at last with some stern looks from other weyr folk did Vitre let himself be tugged into his seat. He wanted to be up against one of the railings that edged the deck of the stands, looking over and down! He could see it all from here of course but it was so far away..."How long until they start hatching then? Not long, right?" He didn't notice the heat of the sands nor the bags under the eyes of most who'd been roused so early. The day, the world, had narrowed for him down to this thrilling chance of a lifetime—seeing a hatching in person, himself!

V'mel

Aviroth's head lifted sharply at some unheard sound, his own throaty rumble of a hum drawing V'mel out of his breakfast. The coarse man stood, quickly wiped his broad palms on a hand towel he'd had nearby, pulled on his riding jacket (which bore the stripes of his rank for all to see) and stepped easily up onto the brown's back. One quick glide across the bowl and he stepped down again, taking broad strides into the kitchens.

"Tables up and to the sands. Chop those beasts into chunks, but don't dice it. Bowls of meat and blades with the tables. Kids need to cut it fine themselves, but quick enough their dragons won't starve, you know the drill." The kitchen staff flew to action under his baleful stare. They did indeed know this ritual by now, and he grunted when he saw they had bent to their tasks and turned to stride back to Aviroth. "The sands then. Our new charges are on their way."

It was best to break them to the bit of his rule from the very start after all.

Early morning was never a time of day Caderyn had liked, so he was hoping to try and squeeze in a couple more hours of sleep before actually having to get up. Myrddin was letting him do this, for once when Siriath's voice suddenly booming in his mind made the boy startle and fall out of his bed. The firelizard let out a screech of disapproval at this movement and made his way back onto the bed before coiling up. A chuckle made Caderyn turn his head to look at his tall roommate as Dorianus was already dressing in his robes and sandals.

"Today is the day." His voice sounded so calm and Caderyn wondered if there was any excitement or nerves bubbling underneath that ever calm surface. "You may wish to hurry and get ready." Watching as Dorianus left their room, Caderyn hurried to make himself look presentable and donned his robe and sandals as well before hurrying out. His eyes moved to look at Dorianus as they walked.

"Aren't you nervous?" The taller boy turned to look at Caderyn, raising an eyebrow some. "What could would showing if I'm nervous be? I am excited, yes, but we both have many more turns if we don't Impress."

"I'm not talking about being nervous about Impressing. Just...Nevermind." He never could understand the other boy beside him. For Dorianus' part at least he was doing a lot of calming thoughts to himself. He was excited and nervous like Caderyn and many of the others, yes, but there was no need to get so worried about it.

Both boys looked at Gr'del and listened to him, Caderyn silently hoping that this would be his last time hearing this. His eyes moved through the rest of the candidates, taking note of everyone he knew and hoping some of them would Impress if he did as well. Cami, Demanthra and Luiciand were some of those. Dorianus on the other hand kept his eyes ahead and listened, his expression not showing what he was truly thinking or feeling. Once they began to move, both bowed to the parents and then, there were the eggs. Dorianus had not come away with a favorite egg, but Caderyn felt his eyes, once more, drawn to a specific red egg. He could see some of them moving and he felt his heart leap into his chest. Maybe, just maybe, today would be his day to shine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A peaceful night had been spent with Branwyn curled up in his arms but A'dras was always up earlier then her. He had been enjoying a nice cup of klah when he first heard the humming. Both Gareth and Delyth had begun to hum. A'dras moved to gently shake Branwyn awake. "It's time dear." She was quick to rise and get ready as well and then they were off to the sands.

With Gareth and Delyth perched above on the ledges, A'dras and Branwyn found a spot and sat. A'dras eyes moved through the crowds of people before he looked at the candidates. He could see Caderyn and he smiled, although he had heard about what had happened at the hatching, he still felt proud to see his son down there. "Do you think this will be the time?" The older man felt somewhat worried for his son, this was not his first hatching so he knew what to expect, but it could always get dangerous. "He has more time, even if it isn't." Delyth's response didn't soothe worries about Caderyn getting hurt, but it helped some.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr'stan had already been up so when Ddraigth began to hum, he was not surprised like he was sure some of the weyr were. He made his way to the sands and found a spot to sit finding a friend there as well. "Morning Tyra." The brunette blue rider turned to look at him and nodded her head. "Morning Dr'stan. Exciting isn't it."

"It always is." Their eyes watched the sands, the candidates and the eggs. "I heard about the touching." Tyra's words brought a laugh from Dr'stan's lips. "Yes. I think this will be a lively bunch. V'mel will have his hands full." He knew Tyra wasn't originally from the weyr, but he had been taught by V'mel and he secretly liked the idea of the older man getting frustrated. "Do you think there will be any girls impressing to blues?" His question made Tyra raise an eyebrow some. "Perhaps. I know in some weyrs it doesn't happen, but it might. It would be nice to have a couple more." She couldn't hide her pride, Orodreth and her did their best and proved the choice that was made was right.

Up, up, and with a thrum that was not only excitement but some degree of panic, mostly a result of the abrupt call to wake - that fast, skipping heartbeat that accompanied being jarred awake. But there was the heavy, persistent weight of dread as well, for while the time had finally come, it might not be her time. The Touching had gotten her hopes so high, but there was that shadow of doubt in the back of her mind that her brother was right, and she had no place on the Sands. It was a thought she shoved away hard and with a shake of her head, and busied herself with unearthing and getting into her robes. Fingers combed through her hair and shoved it back, and she didn't even look at the color of ribbon. Didn't care, it didn't matter today.

Never before in her life had she gone anywhere looking anything less than put together and proper, but there was a first time for everything, and today was that day. Her mother would be horrified on a number of levels. Nadry herself was a little disconcerted by it, but nothing was more important than getting to the Sands as quickly as possible, just as they'd been told. Not that she'd needed to be told to hurry - her heart was in her throat already, she needed to be there. Needed to know.

She did her best to compose herself once she arrived, smoothed out her robes - like any amount of fussing could make them look better than they did - and bowed, and moved to join the other Candidates on the hot Sands. Feeling anxious and alone, she looked to see if there might be any familiar faces nearby, and shuffled just a little in the direction of the particularly large young man she'd bumped into the other day. Not close, but...maybe she could just...gradually work her way over there. Nonchalantly. He'd been very nice, and talking to him had made her feel so much better. She could use a bit of feeling better.

Daesilena slept like a solid rock, sound didn’t bother her. Her other used to crash through their home and her father was never a quiet man either. She’d learned a long time ago to just tune everything else out and she sleep it off until someone shook her awake. She’d always had trouble waking up, but once she was up she didn’t diddly daddly. So when the humming began, Daesilena was still in deep slumber. Other candidates may have started waking up as the excitement of hat the humming meant hit them but, Dae only curled tighter into her covers.

When Siriath’s voice intruded into her dream mind, it took a while for her to register exactly what it was that was happening. When it finally dawned on her and a quick glance around told her she needed to hurry up, instant panic set in. Daesilena was bounding out of bed and throwing clothing off before grabbing her robes and jamming them down into place as quickly as she possibly could. It was time! They were here! The babies were coming! Her hands had drifted to her boots but retracted and picked up the sandals instead. It would not be pleasant to be in them in the warm sands.

Dae gave herself a once over as she walked before filling in behind the other candidates. Everyone was excited; soon some of them would impress and move on to become dragonriders. For her part, Daesilena was nervous. This was an awfully large step into the dragonwrider world and if she was being honest she didn’t know how to handle any of it. Her stomach churned and she could feel sweat starting to build as they got closer and closer to the entrance. This was it, if she impressed she felt like she might have a heart attack.

As she listened to Gr’del, Daesilena couldn’t help but also think of her parents and how she wished she could see them. IF she impressed she could visit, it would take a while but she could go and see them for a bit of time. She wondered what they would think of her. Would her father be proud? Her mother probably wouldn’t understand all the implications of it all but she would at least be happy that something good had happened to her. Yes, she would visit her parents as soon as she could.

The sands felt even hotter than before, Daesilena didn’t know if she was chocking from the heat or just nervousness but her throat felt tight. She moved and bowed to the parents as she had at the touching and then went and found a spot with the candidates who had stepped in before her. She shifted out of nervousness but also because wow these sandals really weren’t doing it for her. She could see some of the eggs looked like they were about ready to burst open already. Soon, soon they would all step into the sands and find their partners.

Cinoth's voice stirred Dristan's sleepy thoughts, the Blue's deep rumble echoing a little too clearly for comfort. At first the dragonhealer stayed abed, uncertain of his place in the coming events, but then, almost reluctantly, he got out of the bed that he shared with H'sad, and stepped onto the cool floor. He'd been ready for this for some weeks now, as it was all too likely that after the dramatic events of the Touching that some of the dragonets would need his assistance. And so he would provide it. "H'sad, time to get up. The eggs are hatching." He let a gentle hand sweep across the Bluerider's forehead, brushing blond, bedraggled bangs away. "If you'd rather sleep in, I'll understand... but I must go." He'd carry his kit with him to the Stands in case of necessity. Admittedly, he was hoping he wouldn't need it. Running a brush quickly through his hair, he dragged himself through the process of getting dressed as fast as he could. The eggs wouldn't wait. Nor could he; although he had no chance to Impress these new children, he had never been able to resist hatchlings.

---

Kellan hadn't spent the night alone. Again. Really, this arrangement was becoming a little too comfortable... but then again, maybe he shouldn't complain, considering how difficult it had been to get into in the first place. In all fairness, though, he actually hadn't been up to any mischief. It was the first time in his life that he'd spent the night just cuddled up to another for the pure, simple pleasure of their company. However, when the call went out that morning, he was rolling out of bed before he knew it. The Touching had been exciting, and if it was any portent for what was to come, he couldn't wait to see what happened. He couldn't wait to officially meet these dragonets.

He got ready in a rush, pulling on his robe and sandals, and hurrying out the door with just enough time to try to stir Shinnikan too. This was one Hatching not to miss, and he didn't intend to. Truthfully, he didn't know where the intervening time between leaving the barracks and arrival at the Hatching Grounds had gone, but he was conscious of how hot the sand was beneath his sandaled feet. Conscious of the way that he was practically panting for breath. The eggs were ready. Was he?

---

"Hey, Chayrel," Fehral said, giving his... friend... a little shake. "Hey. C'mon, time to get up. Did you hear Siriath? It's time! They're hatching!" He was almost exploding with excitement. He couldn't keep it in, he couldn't wait to see them! "They're hatching, we've gotta get going!" He got their Candidate robes out and started dressing himself, too eager to make any attempt at putting himself in order. What did the eggs care what his hair looked like, anyway? He was clean enough, if that was what Gr'del was worried about. But surely they wouldn't mind. He just wanted to meet them so badly!

Strange as it was, Ichta was a welcomed sight this early in the morning, and Goran was silently grateful that she came to stand by his side. He did his best to smile back at her, but it was a little lopsided and strained. "You too." He grunted, not trusting himself to say more than that.

Before he could lose himself in his thoughts again, another familiar face strode into his peripheral, and Goran abruptly realized that Nadry was here, too. Of course she was. Why wouldn't she be? He turned his head to look right at her, not at all subtle or nonchalant in his movements as he nodded at her. If she wanted to come closer, he certainly wouldn't complain.

It was very strange, feeling like there were suddenly two people he could sort of kind of look to for support. When had that happened...?

((Sticking Rissa in prime mauling territory, since she's up to be killed ;3 ))

Nebbi and Vitre had been successful in their persuading of parental figures that they somehow deserved to present at the hatching, though Nebbi insisted she just wanted to be there to help him talk up the wine they were sending as part of a tithe from High Reaches. Regardless, it had worked. And really, her uncle didn't mind letting himself be convinced.

The Weyr was everything she expected it to be and more. She was all too eager to help unload the caravans, running back and forth across the Bowl and the dragons (!!!) flying and bathing and sunning about it. Until she wasn't. And snuck away instead to get a closer look and maybe explore some and generally make a nuisance of herself. That night she hadn't really slept at all. And the morning found her new unconscious before her uncle gently roused her from her sleep to tell her that the hatching was starting. Then she was bouncing.

"Shells, she's huge!" Nebbi gasped as they entered the sands, grabbing ahold of her friend's arm. Her uncle cleared his throat loudly and Nebbi blanched. "Err.. I mean, uh.. Gee that that gold sure is big, huh?" she corrected herself quickly. She sat down, next to Vitre and between him and her dad. "I don't know.. Not long, I hope." she said.

Nearby, Rissa was quietly sitting towards the front of the stands, waiting for the hatching to start. With several friends still standing, Rissa was sure to get there early, grabbing herself a spot near the front of the sands. A while later, a sleepy Tia wandered into her lap, somehow finding her way there from the creche. She lifted an arm, letting the girl rest her head down on her lap. She would wake her later, once it actually started.

On the opposite side of things, Anneila and Cinndi were tucked up right at the back. Xaroth had been keeping an eye on things for her, a network of 'freinds of friends' keeping him abreast of the situation. He had accurately predicted the rough time of the hatching, and Anneila and Cinndi had taken up in the recently opened Observatory in the northern mountains until it started. They made the trip down to the weyr with a number of other journeymen, with Xaroth waiting for them at the Crafthall.

Had she mentioned that she liked it when Goran smiled? Maybe it was because it didn't look like he did all that often. Maybe it was for some other reason. Ichta just dwelled on the upsurge of good feelings it put in her.

When Goran looked the other way, Ichta leaned to follow his gaze towards another girl on the sands who looked about the way Ichta felt, to be honest. But 'honest' said Ichta would keep that thought to herself. Mostly because it wasn't the time. As the man next to her beckoned her over closer, Ichta offered Nadry a smile and also motioned her over.

They'd be a tiny support group!

Reenav started awake...it was the hatching yes mhmm....wait of course it was tge hatching that was what the row dragon had just told them all. The dragons enthusiasm percolated through Reenav's sleepy brain and he brushed his hair his teeth and scrambled into his robes fluffing them neatly for a second or two, he didn't want to appear ruffled fir his dragon or any of the other dragons should he not meet his match today, either way they all deserved his respect and his proper welcome on their hatching day.

He flicked on the thin sandles, he liked the feel of them on his feet but slightly less so when je walked sedately onto the sands...or as sedately as one cojld walk onto particulate fire..he was sure there was a dragon flaming the earth from below with firestone to get the hatching grounds this hot. He was amused at the mental image as he greeted his fellow candidates with joyful words and gestures, helping those ladies that wanted it out to the sands. When everyone was in place he bowed deeply to the weyrleaders and the bronze and gold respectively. A lovely pair that would make a good clutch.

Then he waited as the humming cresendo got louder and louder all the time.
