Core Classes
Charms: This class had always came easily for Fianna, she had a deft hand for them since first term. Even so, she studied hard for this exam, and even became adept at casting her Charms wandless in order to further her degree of mastery over the subject matter. For the NEWT exam, she chose to take it without using her wand, and still found it a rather straightforward test of her skills. - O
Defense Against the Dark Arts: Given her career plans, this was a class Fianna took very seriously, and was the reason why she'd joined the Dueling Club. In the final two years, she'd been trying to cast more of the spells for this class and at Dueling Club wandless, and as such took the NEWT mostly wandless, though she did use her wand when facing the boggart, as she doubted she could reliably send it packing otherwise, and didn't want to bugger up her NEWT with a failure. - O
Herbology: Being the granddaughter of a respected Herbologist, Fianna had no excuse coming not to be proficient at Herbology, and had studied all of the preceding summer with her in preparation for this NEWT. While she was able to successfully extract the pods from the snargaluff plant, she ended up looking as though she'd been pulled backward through a hedge afterwards. - E
Potions: Fianna's grandmother is also a noted Potioneer, and thus the reasoning above applies here as well. Fianna studied Potions with Mother Grey over the summer, and had used her musical talents to create little sing-song mnemonics to help her memorize the often-complex lists of ingredient and instructions of their manufacture. As such whipping up Potions was as easy for her as making a batch of cookies. When she cooked up her draught for the NEWT, Gus was instantly down and out after slurping it up. - O
Transfigurations: This was a class Fianna struggled with when she was younger, and it taken much work for her to become comfortable with doing it reliably, especially when it came to Self-Transfiguration. Because this magic didn't come so easily to her, Fianna studied very hard in preparation for this NEWT. When the time came, she transfigured her legs into that of a hippogryph, and used her memories of her encounter with Snowfeather in her Care of Magical Creatures class as her guide. She was very pleased to walk out with a very nice grade as a result of her hard work. - O
Elective Classes:
Alchemy: With this class being what amounted to an Advanced Potions, Advanced Charms, and Advanced Transfigurations class, with a healthy amount of Philosophy and History thrown into the mix, Fianna rose to the challenge Alchemy presented. It didn't hurt that she grew very fond of her teacher over the years. The final exam was actually fairly easy for her, and she netted a cloud of fire when she tried out the potion- O
Art: As much as Fianna loved her Art classes, and enjoyed the study of Art History, and as much as she adored Professor Hawthorne, she had no intentions of becoming a professional artist, as was her older sister's Plan B. Because of this, she didn't study for this NEWT with as much of a priority as she did her other classes. For her final Art project, she created an image of the Giant's Causeway, and while it was well-done, she could not say it was the greatest she'd ever created- A
Cursebreaking: Fianna wasn't studying to be a Cursebreaker at Gringotts, and was taking the NEWT classes to give her a useful amount of knowledge and experience with the subject matter when she applied to be an Auror. While she studied hard for the final exam, she wasn't able to put up the grades she really wanted.- A
Healing Arts: Again, Fianna wasn't intent to be a Healer at St. Mungo's, but it taken this class to its end with an eye toward the more practical and field applications of the knowledge gained. As an Auror, one never knew when one might need a quick Healing Charm, and the information could be useful during the course of an investigation. It also didn't help that Fianna lacked a level of empathy the Ministry examiners wanted to see in Healer candidates. - A
Wandless Magic Practice:This has been a NEWT Fianna had studied and practiced intensively for all term, having been dueling in Dueling Club for the last two terms exclusively without using a wand, and practicing in both DADA and Charms without her wand. As an interesting twist of fate, the same retired Auror whom dueled with her older cousin was her examiner for her NEWT as well. The resulting duel was rather lengthy, and ended in a draw, with both participants knocked down. - E
Wizard Law: While she wasn't interested in being a barrister, Fianna took Wizard Law to its concluding term as she felt having a practical knowledge of the law was useful to an Auror. Though she put up a reasoned and logical argument in defense of her client, she was tripped up by legal trickery used by the Prosecution Service. - A
Students taking 8-12 tests will be allowed to get one-half of their scores E or above. 11/2= 5.5, rounds up to 6, according to conversation with Dia.
Petition: I would like to formally petition for Fianna to earn an additional higher grade for her efforts, owing to the amount of additional study time and intensive practice, she has put in, and has been referenced in several of her posts throughout the term. Thank you, in advance.
