In the south, near the border of the Cloud Village, an open field, larger than one can really take in once immersed in, exists. This area is a farmland primarily, with the provincial produce being Rice and Wheat. This farmland pulls from the fell method and uses the higher altitude to their advantage in making both cold resistant wheat and rice. These strands of crops are slightly more valuable due to this resistance, though only for countries with similar weather. There are a grand total of six farms here each producing wheat and rice. Each farm produces a grand total of one ton of product per week. This product is then shipped to the village for processing, storage, and sale.
It took no time at all for the duo to get to the location once they were outside the walls. In fact, they moved at top speed, side by side, to the south and arrived within a few minutes. The prairie, as it had been known, was not what they were used to from home. The duo had grown callouses on the bottom of their feet from walking over tree roots and trudging through dirt and mud all their childhood. The ground here was notedly different from there. Jeon Gyeon reached down and put her fingers in the grass, smiling at how it was prickly at the tips, but soft once she ran her hands over it. Wild grass tended to grow very high if left unchecked, but something had been eating grass around here, likely wildlife they didn't need to worry about. She took a bag from her kunai holster, empty as it was, and shoved her fist as deep into the earth as one, nearly full strength punch would go without hurting her hand. She churned her hand for a few seconds, before taking a handfull and pulling it out. She would tag the bag with a marker before looking around the mostly open lands. She was aware, peripherally, of where her brother was as he did his own work. She was more focused on the dirt and earth. She moved quickly, land hopping from point to point and gathering samples of the earth. Where she found interesting flowers, some she hoped had medicinal use, she took notes down of their appearance and locations relative to the village, marking them on the map Jay had given her. Jay's voice cut into her work and her head snapped to him, kneeling about a football field's difference behind the aspirant herbologist.
For his part, Jay had been less intersted in the dirt and plant life and moreso in the signs of wildlife. He too took note of the potential grazing, but was surprised not to see any herds or even strays at all. He was scanning for tracks of any kind, but was weirded out when instead he found... glass? He didn't see any paw prints. Nothing to suggest there was an animal anywhere. Instead... just glass. He kneeled, From where he was moving away from Jeon Gyeon, there seemed to be some every few feet or so, jagged, sharp. He carefully move some with his machete, noting that there was a patter, two smaller trails and a larger, somewhat different... thing between them. Only a few inches thick, and just above the ground: whatever was below was unabated. Jay, kneeling, decided it was best to alert Jeon. "June Bug! Come here!" he exclaimed, trying to get her attention without turning his head. When she arrived, he pointed to the glass tracks.
"Glass wolves."
"Well. I suppose we should follow them!"
"It wasn't in the mission description... but I agree." He stood, gripping his machete, and would follow he traps as far as they went, Jeon Gyeon walking on the opposite side of the tracks.

If the two continued long enough on their path, they'd find themselves eventually travelling into the shadow of one of Kumogakure's many mountains. It was noticeably darker there, and oddly enough, a light mist could be noted, almost like a wall separating light from dark. If they walked into it or even remained nearby long enough, they'd catch the telltale sound of a canine in pain. A strained yelp, certainly not from a wolf winning a fight. Just as a louder, more dreadful sound of defeat was ringing out, a louder one took over. A deep, loud snarl was masqueraded as a heavy draft that came suddenly as the wind shifted course. Just as the burst of wind came to an end, there was definitely the faint sound of growling. Snarling. From more than one creature.
Rather than the glass wolves many Kumogakure citizens were aware of, there laid a bit more of a rarity. The dreaded "Beast of Aries," a mountain stalker, though it seemed to not be at its full adulthood yet. Still, it was easily just over the size of a fully grown horse, its fur a vibrant scarlet red though a deeper, familiar color that was unmistakably blood stained the creature. It was definitely dead, though oddly enough the blood seemed to be beginning to dry, as if it hadn't just died in the last couple minutes.
While there was no attack yet, the growling was louder, and its source was easily found. In the shadow of the mountain were five pairs of glowing red eyes, moving slow to the sides as if trying to surround the twins, feel them out. The eyes and their near incorporeal forms were enough for any Kumogakure Shinobi to know what they were dealing with.

When the duo noted they were walking into the shadow of the mountain, they felt a chill crawl up both of their spines. Jeon, specifically, shivered in response where her younger half simply went on alert. He took a deep breath, continuing on despite an overwhelming sense of foreboding permeating the mist. Jeon, ever the brave, walked tall despite herself even as her every muscle tensed in anxious anticipation. Into the wolf den, such as it were. Jay had no facade to hold on to, fear was something that had been beaten into and out of the duo as children and he never properly learned how to be afraid of anything. Still, the yelp sounding out was unnerving enough to give him pause. He looked for the source when a louder moan echoed through his ears. Something had definitely lost a fight.
Teeth inaudibly chattered in the mouth of the older twin, so much in fact that she could feel it in her skull. The sounds and lack of real visibility as to what it came from had unnerved Jeon to the point she stopped leading towards the sound the moment the wind came at them. A flare of the nostrils gave way for the scent of death, and Jeon reacted with furrowed brows and pursed lips. A shove sent jay stumbling ahead. "Lead the way, bro," she offered with a meek smirk. He rolled his eyes at her as they moved in. Towards the sound of growling. Why were they moving towards the growling sound!? She kept her wits about her, even if she was uncharacteristically shook. It wasn't until her eyes found the Beast of Aries, just after Jay did, that she seemed to straighten and look concerned. "What the-"
"-hell," Jay spoke aloud as he got closer. He kneeled beside the beast, noting it had to be old due to it's size, but probably not as old as it would've gotten due to it having been killed by something. The hues of scarlet that once would've made a beautiful coat were stained a deeper red. What was odd was that as his eyes could see clearer, it looked like the blood was drying. "SOmething isn't right here, Jeon Gyeon. The growling is getting louder," he remarked slowing as he could finally see what Jeon was about to exclaim.
"Glass wolves," Jeon Gyeon halfway squealed. She was directly beside her brother in less than a second, one step from both fo them putting them together. At first, Jay and Jeon did nothing but watch as they slowly tried to surround them. Ten red dots, five forms barely corporeal. The fear in Jeon was suddenly washed out as a hand touched hers. The warmth of familiarity spread along her body as she both literally and figuratively steeled herself. The ability for her and her brother to become tougher than steel at will was something that reminded her that she was never alone: her solemn sentry, his violent vanguard. They slid low, confident that once surrounded things would be less difficult for them than these beasts could imagine just by looking. They moved suddenly, now back to back with Jay drawing his Naginata from his back and Jeon holding her Machete in her right hand, extended ahead of her while she balanced on the balls of her feet, legs coiled. A glance told her Jay's plan, and she acclimated to it. He held the weapon slightly higher up than a typical stance, especially with them about to fight the wolves, such as they were.

The wolves tensed as well. The creatures were obviously able to tell that the two who entered knew what they were doing. The weapons, their stances. If the two knew anything about such beasts, it would look like they were about to make a retreat, until a loud howl damn near shook the mountain they were near, coming from atop it but not at the edge, somewhere further down. Whatever that creature was either had a Fuuton ability to expand the lungs, or was insanely big. Still, no large footsteps were heard. It didn't seem to be coming.
No, something else happened instead.
The wolves already there howled as well, shaking their bodies as their "coats" visibly darkened, turning to a murkier shade. Still it held the kind of reflective surface that would've been fatal in the sunlight...strange that they didn't hunt in that sort of environment.
Obviously revved up, there was no hesitation in their movements. They moved as a group, the five of them collapsing in on their targets before acting as one, turning on the heal quickly so they wouldn't accidentally ram in to each other in the event of a miss before lunging at the two Swamp Land-born shinobi, fangs bared, aiming at different areas of the bodies they hunted while keeping their momentum, as if going for their pound of flesh before running off for another attack.

"s**t." the twins both spoke as Jeon dropped to the ground, doing handseals from a low position while her younger half held up her spear. The coming wolves would be met by a torrential twister, a veritable water spout spiraling up into the air. He timed the release of chakra so the moment they were in range of the attack they would be caught in the rising torrent. With his reflex and speed, it should have been easy. Jeon, completing her seals, would open her mouth and release a ball of lightning into the twirling attack. It was both flashy and dangerous as water was spreading around, all electrified, with the wolves in a position where they were likely going to be caught in the swirl. Jeon held her Naginata close, waiting for a moment to jump out if the skill was canceled. Either way, the two were safe for the second, so they thought.

Impressive. Very impressive. It seemed like the wolves didn't expect to be hunting Ninjutsu who excelled in collaboration techniques when they set up their trap. A mixture of Ninjutsu and Bukijutsu was a good choice despite it not being purely chakra. Two of the wolves who leaped first seemed to have suffered exceptional damage, (Weakness Revealed: Abysmally low defense.) resulting for the others bracing for the attack by reinforcing their murky glass armor, and erecting a wall of glass on all sides of the duo who decided to stick together. The wall rose higher than the Shinobi's mixed technique, and only really resulted in the water released filling up their prison.
Without a moment to spare, they opened their mouths wide and let out monstrous howls, swirling waves of dark glass shards and hurricane-like winds being released down towards the twins...though it should've been noticed that one of the two injured wolves seemed to destroy itself in the process, the "shine" disappearing from the glass on its body as it slumped over and off the wall.

Two of their attackers were caught. More than good, in the mind of Jeon, and just about right for Jay. Jeon had already began allowing her chakra to well up and mold seals, dropping her weapon, when she was given pause by the wall of glass. Jay looked to her and nodded, waiting until the point where the wall was largest. Electricity resistance came in clutch as water began to surround them, and Jay stopped the A rank spinning attack. At once his chakra also welled up as the water spout bursted outward and hopefully shattered their prison, scattering the dangerous charges water and glass away from them and towards the wolves themselves. Following that he emptied the air in his lungs alongside His older sister and a violent expulsion of water from him met with the vicious lightning attack, combining into an a rank combination attack. Hopefully the two would cancel out and the twins wouldn't be too hurt by the combination.

The twins elemental counterattack proved effective, the group of wolves left in a broken state in the aftermath. Their glass shattered slowly, some still remaining however in such a state that any ability or movement would do them in permanently. This pack in particular was strange. Not from the fact that their fine particles were raising into the air in order to travel up the mountain in a sudden burst, but their prior actions in general. Why didn't the louder, larger wolf come down? Why did they remain despite being at a disadvantage? Inspection of the mountain stalker on the ground would likely reveal that answer. Two of the hooves were removed, and large amounts of the hide was stripped save for remaining snippets and the occasional large patch. It would still fetch a fair price. The areas where the hide was missing retained the same cracked-glass like surface akin to the ground nearby.
It was a specific hunt, and the glass wolves were the distraction in this case for the prize to make it back.
The remaining wolves shattered (purposely?) all the way down to their fine particles, once more leaving in a burst of air and glass that traveled in an upwards draft to the top of the mountain.

As the wolves scattered, Jay maintained a stance of defense. His eyes very keenly watched as the last wolf body hit the ground, each thud sending a spark of electricity up his spinal cord. Jeon remained alert but seemed more observant, more keenly focused. Long seconds passed as the duo watched the air carry their very being away in a stream flowing north like the Nile. But... it was too directed to be natural. The duo could see very clearly that the mist was being drawn into a central point up the mountain. All the corpses were in fact. Jay and Jeon both remembered the deeper, hauntingly close howl from before and all the hairs on their bodies stood on end. It wasn't until the final shatter that they stirred, and it was in pure fear that they did so. Jay leaped out of his own skin aside his sister, who all but screamed.
Then all fell silent.
Jay rubbed his chin after more excruciatingly drawn out seconds and walked to the corpse with Jeon just beside him.
Jay kneeled by the corpse of the mountain stalker, seeing, beyond the blood from it's wounds, that it was missing a ghastly amount of it's flesh. Replaced, instead, was the ever so out of place glass that had been in the country side. Carefully, with his machete, he sliced away most of it, revealing the nature of the wounds the beast had received. The smaller wolves they had just killed couldn't have hoped to do this kind of damage. he mumbled mostly about nothing to himself, as Jeon made a sound like a detective who found the clue.
"They took it's hooves. Whatever attacked and left the beast took it's hooves. I... this is creepy." Jay nodded in concurrence as he examined the grisly spectacle. Jeon crossed her arms as she pondered. The wolves couldn't have believed they could win, not with their level of power after seeing their initial attack. In fact, they were too brittle to even stand up to more than a few hits. So... why? Did they not fear death? Did they fear death less than punitive action? Beyond that why had the alpha not come to aid his subordinates? The answer came to Jeon. "These were only here to slow us down and impede our progress following their tracks, to distract us. "
"Wolves don't have the capability to think like that. They aren't smart enough. If that is true... something was driving them to act in such an unnatural manner. Give me a hand, we're going to take this stalker back with us. It'll fetch some money, and likely shed some light on this situation after a more thorough autopsy. Shizuku needs to hear about this too." The two, strong as they were, had no issue lifting the beast and moving slowly out of the shadow of the mountain. It occurred to Jay that all of the noise had been nonexistent until the duo came in contact with the darkness. It was just a theory, but perhaps they specifically only were in the area of the mountain where the sun's shadow was? It was a stretch to make such an assumption, but any theory should be tested where this kind of danger is concerned.

Followed Shu very closely as he tracked down the scent, luckily, not too much time had passed and the weather was permitting at the moment so they didn't lose the scent. The closer they got, the evidence of a bit scuffle was obvious. The broken grass, twigs, as well abnormal dirt shift that nature herself did not make. Careful with the sounds of her feet, Shu's wide paws help prevent any sound as they silently kept an eye out and track down the scent. Shu's ears are constantly twitching in different directions... seeking, listening.
They waited. And they waited so much. "Hmm. It's quiet Anything?" She questioned to her furry friend as she glanced towards him. He shook his massive head as she sighed and nodded softly. "Alright. Let's see if we can try to follow this trail." They continue on the trail but then it just... stopped. Hakanai frowned as she squatted down and tried to find anything. Another hint. Tracks? It seemed to only appear when they are fighting. Wolf paw prints stopped long ago but glass trail was continuous. "Let's go check the other areas I guess." She said softly as her hand went to gently brush at Shu's side...

Out of Caffeine: Actions: Inner Predator - By watching Shu and spending enough time with him, she learned to focus on her center and become very quiet when walking. Her footsteps or even when her hands are on the floor or walls, are quiet and does not make a sound. While running, she had demonstrate great balance as if she was a snow leopard chasing it's prey on a rocky mountain and it's quiet just the same.
