Western Weyr Wings

Heart's Fire Flight

In Western Weyr this particular Flight was name after fire. Those who came out to the West had to be passionate about such a move and such a change; not only was the Continent mostly unexplored, but the people and riders were essentially isolated. They were on their own. Some say the warm fires of the hearth inspired this Flight name, as fire can warm and comfort, even as it might burn, while others say it was inspired by the grit and spirit of local travelers. A few others still claim it was simply pulled from a hat. Honestly, Western Weyr might not entirely remember how the flight name came to be, but these days, with the need of dragonfire to fight the Great Enemy, it's a fitting name indeed.

It is common for the riders to call one another by a shortened Wing name, such as the "Furies" the "Blazers", etc..

Satellite Flight Flight

This is the newest Flight at Western Weyr. It was decided to be added long after Western Weyr opened it's doors and was an official Weyr. It came about during a time & Great population,perhaps the largest population Western Weyr had ever seen. Unfortunately, as individuals left the Weyr, it has shrank a bit in number. This was made in honor of AIVAS and the new knowledge and technology that had (seemingly) saved Pern from Thread.

If your character is in this flight and you are ready to return and actively RP again...please PM/DM Uta or Mr Cheri so we can get your characters in active Wings!

The exceptions would be the Weyrling Wing. Any weyrlings in that wing are considered PC/Active!

Aeolus Flight

Aeolus Flight actually came from Fort Weyr. As Fort's numbers dwindled after the 9th Pass ended, Aeolus Flight was the last Flight to remain. Upon the Weyr's decision to shut down, a few who remained decided to head to the newly created Western Weyr. Just because their Weyr disbanded didn't mean their legacy had to end. The young Weyr was in need of dependable riders and new faces, and thus, Aeolus Flight was able to carry on its legacy.

The Wing has long forgotten the origins of its Wings names, but they fight proudly knowing they are keeping a part of Pern's history alive.

Grounded & Retired Dragons

These men and women, and their dragons, have either grown too old to be assigned to a fighting wing or are injured in such a fashion they cannot fight Thread. This does not make them any less respected in Western Weyr. The Weyrleadership is proud of all of its riders, and the sacrifices they have given to Western.

If a dragon is grounded due to their rider's injury, then the dragon might still get to fly around the Weyr, and generally act as all dragons do. They may not be able to fly with their rider, unsupervised, or go far. Likely, their weyrs are moved to ground level weyrs.

If a dragon is grounded due to its own injury, then they will likely need to be cared for by their rider, if possible. The dragon cannot go Between unless it flies, so the rider will be responsible for cleaning up after it, mucking out their living quarters, and ensuring the dragon doesn't over exert itself.

Some grounded riders and dragon pairs might be able to prove they are not a liability to their wingmates, and return to a fighting Wing, or the Queen's Wing. It is entirely up to the Weyrleadership's discretion. If your rider is listed here, PM Masterharper to discuss if there is any opportunity to return to a fighting Wing and how to do so.

Retired riders are too old to serve in a fighting wing, and are given the choice of retiring at the Weyr, or moving elsewhere. They have served their duty well, and are treated well. While they might not fight Thread anymore, they can still help with the weyrlings, or candidates, or serve as moral and emotional support.
