Age: 22
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual............probably?
Weyr: High Reaches
Rank: Junior Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Holder's daughter and heir
Voice: [ X ] - Searching for a voice
Song: Unstoppable - Sia
Physical Description: Madanee is fairly average in height, standing at 5'6. Her physique is thicker than average thanks to her love of food and drink but she wears it with confidence. Her wavy hair is generally styled to fall perfectly around her face and down her shoulders, light brown locks occasionally pulled back in a tail when she's getting down to business and needs it out of the way. She has fair skin and blue eyes that are often outlined with kohl. She does like to look her best and she's always got a bit of color on her cheeks and lips when out in public. Her attire is the latest fashion and generally bright, bold colors.

Personality: What Madanee wants, Madanee gets. Not in that 'daddy, buy me North Korea' way, but in the 'put in the work, get the reward' way. She has no problem waking up at the break of dawn and going until the sun has set if it means getting her closer to her goal. Granted, Madanee doesn't particularly enjoy getting sweaty or dirty and she'll avoid that at all costs, but she's still a hard worker. Her work is less physical, more mental and she likes to keep it that way. She would just prefer other people to do the things that might cause pain or stain her favorite scarf. Thankfully for her, both her confidence and her intelligence lend themselves to seeing that she doesn't have to do much dirty work. Someone needs to hold the blueprints while others build the house, right? Even though she's a woman she has no qualms telling men around Midling what to do when her father sets her to small tasks and she's quick to solve problems that might arise. Her education from her father has taught her everything she needs to know and she's still learning more from him, gaining knowledge every day and experiencing different ways to see that Midling runs as smoothly as it should. While she doesn't have any Hall training in a particular Craft, Madanee is a bit of a jack of all trades thanks to learning on the job.

It was mentioned 'what Madanee wants, Madanee gets', and while it's true that it's not meant in a materialistic way, it certainly is meant as a negative as well as a positive. Madanee is so focused on what she wants and what her goals are that she rarely cares about what others around her might want or need, or if her own desires and goals step on others to achieve what she wants. This isn't done ignorantly, either. A choice could be put before Madanee that shows herself succeeding while others fail and she'll still pick in favor of herself. Her confidence is admirable but sometimes it swings wildly into the realm of cockiness or overconfidence. She's still young and has a lot to learn though she'd never admit to that. She'll go into situations far over her head with the swagger of someone whose been through things ten times worse and will fail miserably. Madanee will deny her failure to the point that she doesn't learn from her mistakes the first or even second time, and often it takes her father talking to her for her to understand where she went wrong. Finally, Madanee loves the finer things in life a bit too much. She enjoys good food and drink, fine clothing, jewelry, handsome boys, and the money to have all these things. The life of a Holder isn't particularly fancy and while she's one of the better off people in Midling, she doesn't have an endless supply of Marks to throw at all of these things. She understands the concept of saving and spending wisely but she's not the Holder now so she can spend her Marks as she sees fit!
Positive: Driven, confident, intelligent.
Negative: Self-absorbed, cocky, hedonistic.

History: Madanee was born in Midling Hold to the Holder and his wife, the first of two children between the pair. She grew up at her father's side, watching him in his duties as Holder of Midling and learning from him. While it was expected that her younger brother would follow in his father's footsteps and become Holder, Madanee enjoyed learning what went into running a minor hold more than the idea of being married off to some random person to create political ties between different families or even other holds. She liked the idea of being in charge, of telling other people what to do, of the respect the position of Holder demanded, as well as the responsibility that went with it all. Madanee knew she could do it if given the chance and she knew her father trusted her to do a good job, but tradition was hard to go against. With her brother being only a few Turns younger than she, Madanee knew she'd have to be beyond perfect if the title were to be passed to her.

As she grew older, Madanee's mother tried harder to groom her for the disappointment of not being chosen as Holder and for the possibility of being married off. Madanee was intent on not leaving Midling until her father picked an heir, so while she humored her mother and worked on skills that would make her more enticing to a potential husband - cooking, cleaning, mending, housework - she continued to work with her father on things demanded of a Holder - diplomacy, politics, problem solving - so she wouldn't be looked over in favor of her brother. She was given a rather insightful look to just how hard a Holder worked when Thread returned. Her father had never been so busy, both in keeping in touch with High Reaches Hold and taking care of those living in his own Hold. Thankfully the dragons of High Reaches Weyr had not been far off and had protected them well. Things changed after that day, Madanee had noticed. Her life before Thread had been fairly easy going and simple despite her desire to become Holder. Now it was tinged with worry, always looking up at the sky, wondering if this would be the time the dragons and their riders missed a sizeable chunk of Thread and it destroyed all of Midling.

A rather fantastic surprise came less than a Turn later. One of the dragons from High Reaches and his rider came to pay Midling a visit and had taken Madanee's brother with him when they'd left. He had been Searched and taken back to High Reaches as a Candidate. Madanee had been appropriately happy for her brother, and as he was taken away that false joy turned into delighted glee. Her main competition was removed...for now...from the running of Holder. Her brother could be gone for Turns and Turns or for good and it would force her father to look at her seriously as the next heir. Madanee put aside her more 'ladylike' studies to focus completely on becoming her father's shadow, learning everything she could from him to prove that she was the best candidate for the title.

Turns have passed since her brother was Searched and every time a clutch is laid at High Reaches, Madanee and her father go to watch and see if he's selected by a dragon. So far he hasn't been but Madanee hopes each time that he is. For her own sake, of course. She could care less about her brother actually being a dragon rider. Sure, it's a grand honor, but she's far more concerned about her own future as Holder.

Name: Carovnicath
Age: Weyrling
Color: Gold
Size: 86'
Voice: X - Julie Andrews
Song: Then You May Take Me to the Fair - Camelot
Personality: Carovnicath is a queen who is full of charm, grace, and etiquette--but one who is also hatched quite spoiled. As a gold of High Reaches, this dragon could see herself living in no other Weyr and certainly enjoys the riches of her station and rank. She absolutely eats up the attention that others give her, whether she's done anything to warrant the praise at all, and will grow to expect proper reverence from every person she meets. She wants the luxuries and riches that are bestowed upon gold riders, and certainly turns her nose down at any from Western who try to fight nature, and the very instinctive hierarchy that comes down to their color. She is a gold dragon, a rarity no matter how many there might be within the Weyr; she posses the ability to command, and while she is more than happy to follow her sparkling kin who are older, wiser, and of higher position than she -- she will expect her chromatic clutchmates to remember with whom they were hatched! If not, she will be swift to put them in their place!

Carovnicath might know she sits higher in position as her clutchmates, but she will just as eagerly cuddle and gossip with her green sisters as well as cozy up to any handsome blue, brown, or bronze. Like mother like daughter, Carovnicath is equal opportunity when it comes to cuddles and physical affectionate. Everyone is welcome to spend time with Carovnicath, and she will certainly welcome them all beneath her great wings, no matter the position. She isn't so high above them as to feel that she sits fully apart--even if she is all the more magnificent. While she is their illustrious clutchmate, they are still her family, and like her mother before her, she is quite an affectionate and loving gold. All attention should be hers, after all, and the best place to be is well in the middle of a coveted coterie all her own.

Charm oozes off her easily, and Carovnicath uses it to her gross advantage. She knows exactly how to play the game, as it is, and plays it well. Her clever wit and intelligence means that she can easily make friends, strong alliances, and ensure that her life -- and that of her riders -- is as comfortable as possible. She isn't a particularly hard-working queen, but she greases the wheels just enough to ensure she and Hers are well-favored. Carovnicath is not a foolish creature, and while she might act oblivious or without-a-thought in her head to get some big, strong, bronze to do the heavy lifting for her--she is always ready to change in an instant, and ensure she has her clutchmates, and wingmates, eating out of her claws.

Alas, all that charm and cleverness will often lead to Carovnicath playing games. She enjoys nothing more than to get her way, spoiled as she is, and she will find ways to do so--even when denied. Especially as she ages, this gold will enjoy the game of politics and will use her golden hide to her advantage. She absolutely does enjoy getting the bronzes and browns all a fluster. Why not promise one bronze that she'll sunbathe on his ledge, if only he outflies his bronze brother in their next Threadfall. Why not coo over a gold-chasing blue, just to give him a little thrill, and see what grandiose task he might achieve in her name? Honestly, Carovnicath's manipulations aren't usually cruel, but she will lead someone on if there's something she wants out of it; perhaps it's attention, perhaps it's making another jealous, or perhaps still it's simply savoring the enjoyment of turnng others against a clutchmate who offends her. Does she really need to justify why? Just know that she can and will.

To make matters worse, Carovnicath is often unapologetic for her behavior, even when called out on it. Why should she be? More often than not, she is a queen who does what she wants, as she wants, and she has no intention of changing! Hers will need to put her foot down sternly to keep Carovnicath in line, especially when her behavior does require an apology or some sort of acknowledgement of error. It isn't that she doesn't see herself as perfect, she simply sees herself as above needing censure. She's a queen, after all--there are very few out there who have the power to make her. Needless to say, this can cause Hers ample trouble.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Origin of Name: The original Welsh form of the name Gwenhwyfar seems to be cognate with the Irish name Findabair, can be translated as "The White Enchantress" or "The White Fay/Ghost". The Slovenian word for enchantress is čarovnica, which is where this queen derives her name.
Inspiration: Then You May Take Me to the Fair - Camelot
Camelot is a 1960 musical by Alan Jay Lerner (book and lyrics) and Frederick Loewe (music). It is based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from T. H. White's 1958 novel The Once and Future King.
The original production, directed by Moss Hart with orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and Philip J. Lang, ran on Broadway for 873 performances, winning four Tony Awards and spawning several revivals, foreign productions, and the 1967 Warner Bros. film Camelot. The musical has become associated with the Kennedy Administration, which is sometimes called the "Camelot Era".
The show premiered in Toronto, at the O'Keefe Centre on October 1, 1960. It overran drastically — it was supposed to last two hours forty minutes, and instead clocked in at four and a half hours. The curtain came down at twenty minutes to one in the morning. The show had to be edited and cut drastically in the following months. Two songs were ultimately cut. "Then You May Take Me To the Fair" and "Fie on Goodness," were cut a few months into the run (though they remain on the cast album, and the former featured in the 1967 film.) We've opted to include it since it was originally part of the show, and still can be found on the original soundtrack as sung by Julie Andrews.
Positive Traits: Clever, Affectionate, Charming
Negative Traits: Spoiled, Manipulative, Unapologetic
Butterfly Wing Egg: A small egg that radiates hopefulness.
Adult Size: 86'
Physical Attributes: On the smaller side for a queen, unlike her mother who is quite tall, Carovnicath is actually more short and long. There is something petite and delicate about her, but her neck and tail make up much of her length. Her headknobs are long and elegant, her feet are actually quite small, and she moves with a natural, serpantine like grace. Her wings are more long than they are broad, and while she is very elegant and swift upon wing, her stamina does struggle, particularly in lengthy Threadfalls. Spoiled as she is, Carovnicath will be prone to putting on weight--especially post-weyrlinghood where certain daily activities aren't required!
Additional Notes: Carovnicath will love flights, and will enjoy pitting her competitors against one another. She enjoys playing games with their hearts, making promises, breaking them, and leaving them all on her toes desperate to be the one she chooses. That sort of power is something she absolutely loves... and will use to her advantage.
Secretly though--very secretly and something she might not figure out until she's older--Carovnicath will actually have an eye for her her fellow sisters. Wouldn't it be nice to have a lover who understands their unique position as a female? While they could never catch one another, romantically, she might well prefer to have another lady on her ledge to return to and spoil. Perhaps it's knowing well that clutches and flights or power would have no bearing on their relationship; while she knows how to get the boys to fall over themselves for her, it's the ladies that will truly captivate her hearts.
Impression Effect: Madanee will find herself far less self-absorbed now that Carovnicath is in her life. One can't be part of the Weyr without thinking of others, no matter their position. Instead, there's a softer side to Madanee, or at least one that's a fair bit warmer and more welcoming than before.
Why Me? Madanee (SilverLutz)
Madanee was perfect for Carovnicath, there's no doubting that. To start, both rider and dragon know exactly what they want out of life, and both have every intention of getting it. This queen had little interest in someone who wasn't capable, and has every intention of ensuring that Madanee and she are spoiled in the riches of their newfound position. Rest assured, Madanee's hedonism will work well with this charming but manipulative queen; there will be little that either rider or dragon lack, and Carovnicath will not hesitate to point out both their importance and their newfound rank should they treat them as undeserving. Even if Madanee will no longer be eligible to run a Hold, perhaps someday she can be in charge of a Weyr? While it is not Carovnicath's primary drive, she wouldn't mind a higher ranked position someday, and will give Madanee a new path to ponder. At their worst, Madanee and Carovnicath can be quite a strong force to reckon with, but at their best, they will be supportive allies. Madanee knows how to work hard when Carovnicath might try to wheedle out of some task; on the flipside, Carovnicath's affectionate nature and charm will help smooth down some of Madanee's self-absorption and know-it-all-attitude. Just because they're their cream of the crop doesn't mean they can't play nicely with others.
