[HH PRP] First Encounters (Toki & Chris)

It was almost shameful that he'd been a hunter nearly two years and hadn't had a formal patrol or solo mission on his own. Mostly he just didn't put himself out there but here he was finally.. Chris was nervous and jumpy as he wandered the Haunted House. He'd seen a couple of the small round ghosts (they looked like they were from Super Mario) but he hadn't met anything yet that was a real threat.

Mostly he was interested in the way the rooms seemed to randomly generate into a myriad of things.

He was currently in a room that looked like a crowded attic. It was full of junk with a maze-like path through the mess. It reminded him of the Room of Requirement from the harry potter movies..

The lanky hunter paused to gaze in wonder upon what looked like a wall made of discarded socks.. he was in awe.

"Someday. Someday. I will murder those gnomes...someday."

The haunted house is as unnerving as ever. Toki meanders this way and that, trying to find a way back to civilization, regretting ever taking directions from gnomes. It is just so dark --

"What? This is so soft--OOOF."

The wall she stumbles into wobbles...and falls to pieces around her, burying her in some sort of textile.

"Gah! This is...huh? ...Socks?"

She starts brushing the pieces of sad, lonely, unpaired socks off. She tosses one away with particular fervor, and it lands on a coat rack--wait. That's not a coat rack.

"My apologies! I did not mean to hit you with the sock. Are you hurt? I hope not. Socks are quite soft. I mean, I don't know if these have been washed recently, but they are soft nonetheless."

She sits there, still covered in discarded pieces of cloth.

"Hello, hello! We have not met before. Are you looking for an exit as well?"

The sock wall came down onto Chris too and he yelped in surprise. He hadn't really expected to meet anyone here and had hoped it would be an uneventful patrol.

The hunter, on instinct, brought his fists up like he was going to fight and ended up looking like a coat rack against his efforts to look tough. Then a sock hit him in the face.

"Ppppffflllllttt.." He spluttered to get the taste of haunted sock out of his mouth and his arms fell even though a halloween being was right there in front of him.

"No I'm not.." Should he be talking with them? "I'm fine. Uh.. I'm actually working."

Christ tugged his white coat with the plain gold trim, "You aren't causing trouble are you?"

"Working...oh. You must be a human! How nice. There are so many of you in the haunted house! I suppose one cannot avoid this area if one is performing workplace duties."

This human (who is most definitely not a coat rack, she is glad she did not say that aloud) looks nice, but a little...nervous. Perhaps she should keep a polite distance. She decides to stay in place, surrounded by socks. It is very comfortable, as long as you try not to think about how long they've been gathering dust here.

"You know, I have not actually seen anyone in trouble here! It is strange. I've heard stories around school of people dissipating in this area. ...I would very much like to avoid that. You are working, hmm? You would not happen to have a map of this place? Or know how to get out? I am very, very tired of being lost -- ooh, how rude of me! I have forgotten introductions completely."

She waves one long, long sleeve. A few socks are knocked loose. Her camera drops out, and she quickly catches it with her other sleeve before it hits the ground.

"Oops! Whew. I am Toki! It is so nice to meet you."

Chris wasn't sure what he expected for his first real up close and personal encounter with a halloweener but this certainly wasn't it. It was like talking to a normal person and not at all like a scary shadow or something that might kill him..

But they can boyo, dontchu fergit it.. His weapon gruffly commented in his mind.

He watched the camera come loose from a long sleeve and be caught and Chris realized an introduction was taking place, "Oh uh.. I'm Chris. People probably diss-" he stuttered, "dissipate because hunters patrol here. I don't think all of you guys or all of my guys like each other.."

His lips quirked crookedly, "At least you come back right?" Must be convenient to not die.

"Chris! What a nice name. It is good to meet you! Yes, yes. It is very convenient, but the whole process of dying is unpleasant, hmm? Some of the more thrill-seeking students seem to have no issue with it, but I, personally..."

She trails off and eyes the gold trim with interest, completely distracted.

"Hmmmm. So you all are hunters? That explains all your uniforms! They are very nice. Very shiny for military--wait. You're, uh....you're not here to kill me? Right?"

She starts shuffling backwards, eeeever so slowly.

Chris blinked a bit and turned a slight shade of pink at being told his name was nice. it was a pretty normal name.. He also handled compliments badly.

"It's not military it's like.. private I guess.." He scratched his head and his dark bangs, clearly hair dye by his blonde roots, flopped into his eyes.

"Well um.. no I um.. I guess only if you are trying to kill me? Or other people?" His hand went to his ear where there were 5 silver earrings in each of his ear. It wasn't clear yet what the significance was but he did it defensively.

"Are you trying to kill people?" Was the camera deadly? Did it catch souls or something?

Oh dear. This person doesn't seem comfortable at all. She stops shuffling and watches him fidget for a second.

"Are those earrings? They are so nice! Very sparkly. You wear them very well. Perhaps I should pierce my ears... And no, no. I do not kill people. My kind bring luck, you know. The only time they get scared is when they think we're going to leave! Hoho. I can understand how they feel, though. No one wants to lose their treasures, hmm?"

She's actually quite proud of this, and is preparing to go on a ten-minute monologue about ancestral history and family lineage, but sees him eyeing the camera.

"Oooh! Have you noticed my camera? You have good taste. It was a present from my father. It is...I think it's called a polaroid camera. Well, it is somewhat outdated, but I have taken pains to brighten it up!"

She rattles it. Diamante pieces are flung off into the sock-filled abyss.

"Come, we should take a photo together! What is it you call it? A sellfy?"

"These are.." His hand fell away from his ears as they were pointed out and they glowed a moment before silver rings marked with runes appeared around his arms. They looked a bit like the training rings used in Kung Fu, if she knew about such things. Chris didn't want to seem like he was pulling a weapon so after a moment they disappeared again and showed up back on his ears.

It only dawned on him after the fact that he probably shouldn't have revealed they were his totem, "My weapon.. thing.." His voice seemed to get fainter as the sentence wore on.

Talking about the camera was much better. He didn't know alot about Halloween technology besides that it was similar since everything was sort of a break off of human tech..

"Okay-" A selfie with a creature? "Have you met a lot of humans..? Do you take pictures with all of them like this?" Was it so easy for even halloweeners to make friends and be social? Maybe he really was a weirdo..

"OH MY. How dramatic! I personally never saw the need to carry a weapon, but that is certainly a fantastic way to do so. I am envious of your weapon thing. It is so convenient."

The human seems more comfortable, but still somewhat reticent--that is good in its own way. Everyone has their own personality. Besides, she will blabber enough for the both of them. She eyes the glowing rings with disappointment as they fade away, and starts rummaging in her sleeves again.

"Hmm. I would not say very many! Ahh, I cannot find my photo album, forgive me. I have met, um...honestly, sometimes I forget basic introductions. Seren, Rhys, ah, a few more right here in the haunted house, Zane, Henry, the twins...oh my. I am much better with faces than names. I am sure you spend much more time with your fellow humans than I!"

Perhaps she should open with "Who are you?" instead of "How about a photo?" from now on.

"And now I have met you! How fortuitous. You seem like a very nice young man. We should take a photo to commemorate. I hope I am not holding up your work. Come, come, one quick photo and you can be on your way!"

She (finally) extracts herself from the pile of socks and walks over, fiddling with her camera.

"Oh.." Chris listened to the list of hunters that Toki had met and it honestly seemed like more people than he himself knew. He didn't want to reveal that though, mostly because it was embarrassing..

"You're the first," he didn't know what she was exactly so he went generic, "halloween person I've talked to," At least where it wasn't some for of work battle situation but he had mostly seen monsters with little independent thought.

"A photo?" The freckled young man shifted but didn't move away and when the photo was finally taken he looked a bit like a deer in the headlights. No smile, just a wide eyed stare.

"Oh, how nice! I hope you do not have a bad impression of us and our school. But, maybe, uh, I have heard some students are not that friendly, so perhaps keep an eye out..."

She holds out the camera.

"Come, smile! Yes, yes, just like that--eh?--"

She glances to the side and realizes he is, in fact, frozen to the spot and not exactly smiling, but she is a fraction of a second too late, and the camera flashes.

"Ah, uhm...d-don't worry! You need not smile. Not everyone smiles in photos, you know. It gives people a more, ah, mysterious air! Yes. H-here, why don't you keep a copy?"

She pushes a copy of the photo into his still-frozen hand.

"I, uh, should probably return. Classes and all that, you know how it is. It was very nice meeting you! And do not worry! You look very good in the photo!"

Chris accepted the photo, amazed really at how quick that had gone, and looked at how terrible he looked. Maybe he needed to work on smiling or not looking like a scared rabbit all the time.

"Do you need help or like.. an escort or something?" He was willing to walk with her to find an exit if need by.

"Don't want you to get lost or.. end up out the wrong end.." Chris wasn't sure if the haunted house worked that way but since she seemed pretty nice he'd hate to have her run into a more aggressive sort of hunter along the way.

"Maybe I'll smile next time," He held up the picture encouraged and gave a small, teeeeeny tiny smile.
