The letter way received with trepidation. It was not that Leva though themselves as above an exam or test of their powers, but rather the thought of failure and having that failure on record that drew her utter and complete ignoring of it for a while. A while being several months. A while being she’d put it off so much that she’d gotten an actual, jack true letter, from HOME, asking if and when she planned to show them progress of her studies and what she had gained in her time away.
The nightmare demon dreaded the idea of being checked in on. And for good reason. Her relatives would collect her back into their hive/cave/lair and chastise her for being so arrogant and so petulant and really it was just a lot more hassle then it was worth. All because they would want some kind of tangible proof of results. And that meant taking that first letter, and following the instructions like a good little nightmare hatchling. (Which Leva was often not with her snooty behavior). So with GREAT EFFORT and a lot of self ego boosting, Leva made her way to the location as described and the house that was more or less, not looking too hot.
She was utterly going to fail this wasn’t she? With a deep sigh and a groan, Leva read the poem, (or was it a warning? It felt like a warning that was trying to just be polite about the fact it was a warning), and then the sign. The sign was most definitely a warning. She was so not going to enjoy this, much less enjoy the fact she was probably going to fail and have to find something else to show her family that yes, she was well, yes she was progressing, and yes, please stop asking her and go back to not bothering her for several months or years that would be great actually leave her alone please you are all family and she loved you dearly, (not really), but by jack leave her alone.

Having entered the home which was, a rather daunting thing, Leva regret ever even considering this course of action. She should have just stayed in the dorm, faked a letter, sent it to her home, and called the whole situation done and done. But no, as much as she would have liked to, the reasonable part of her knew that such a thing would not suffice. This was much needed even if it had come about much too late. (Not to mention, the door had shut behind her and no matter how many times she had banged on it, it had refused to budge or move thus, she had no option but to wallow in self pity and regret or keep moving forward to the possible inevitable of failure or the sweet tang of likely impossible victory and success.)
Her first step in the kitchen felt like a very good indicator of things to come as a tiny bucket of bone fell, clattering all over the floor and echoing in the otherwise empty halls and room. She was starting this whole thing off well was she?
