-----------------------------------------Dolmar-----------------------------------------

Dolmar wrapped the surge of power from Demon about himself like a cloak, a shield for Vampire's angst to break against. It could have been, perhaps should have been...but the choice had been made. The die cast. He could not easier undo his selection than step back in time to warn them all of thread. What flicker of concern, of regretful second guessing he might have had at the potency of those betrayed feelings washing against him, it could easily be stuffed down deep. He could feel how Demon wound about him like a missing piece of a puzzle. How could any other egg be more meant for him? That the egg might be drawing others, all of them in in a similar fashion did not occur. A rare failing of his sharp mind. He wanted it so badly. He could almost feel the Demon taking what he offered...a fish to a lure, in his mind. And he would patient wait to reel in that line he'd so deftly baited. He was the fisher, not the fish.

Of course, the apocalypse came ushered in a beat later. Not really. But almost. The gold lunged and someone screamed, and though Dolmar's eyes rolled to Marinel, hunched nearby beside Werewolf, he couldn't tear himself from Demon's shell. One hand flung out, as if he could bar the gold's passage towards Hellhound, Werewolf, and those at hand. Of course, her attack(?) stopped well shy of their group, and he breathed out, ragged across his teeth with jaw hung wide open to pant, wide-eyed and wild at the sight of a girl pinioned between the gold's teeth. Dragons couldn't kill...

And then it was done. The girl sank to the sand, and the gold rounded to her downed rider. High Reaches' candidatemaster called his candidates away, but A'ral was scooping up the girl. Did they leave? Help? Could anything be done? Had the rider died? His hand stayed firmly planted, fingers splayed on Demon's blazing shell, leeching all the strength he could, as long as he could. He would go when told...but not a moment before. And Marinel was fine...what cared he for a stupid girl who'd surely brought the gold's wrath upon herself, or an old goldrider? His twin was his only concern. His twin...and the egg.

Finally relieved of Vimiath's vengeful glare, Farensil sighed, and spent a few moments composing herself She'd started towards the nest again, her resolve to stay out of trouble steeled when... well, thread hit the fan. And then ate it and the table holding it and the floor under her and her mind blanked.

'High Reaches! Out! Single file, now!' The command to leave was timely. She spun on her heels, not afraid, not excited or sad or... anything. If she'd left up the sheet over her mind, all of that would have done anything but help, so she closed her senses to the sand and gave a hurried trot out the sands to wait by the dragon mentioned. She had been slow, today. A little clueless, admittedly, and she cursed under the name of every shard of the first egg that she'd been so wherry-brained. She wondered if she consider giving up on standing at clutches and look into flits and whers. They'd surely be easier to stand for.

But... She had heard recently that dragons will not impress on anyone who trains whers. Was it really true? She watched the entrance to the sands as others filed out behind her, eager to avoid upsetting anyone else and keeping her thoughts as much to herself as she could manage.

Gavryl barely had time to react as the Mummy Egg screamed and the gold surged across the sand, knocking him out of the way in her rush to -- he blinked as the gold froze, her teeth poised around the stupid girl's head and all the Candidate could think was 'interesting'. The Candidates had managed to upset a number of the eggs and already they were being ordered off the Sands.

Vimiath left as swiftly as she'd charged over and he saw a flurry of motion in the rider's direction... and he sighed. Were the Candidates so lacking in self control as to ruin the whole of the opportunity for them? He frowned as he shifted to go, feeling the distinct impression of the Demon's gaze upon him. It was almost disconcerting and he glanced back over his shoulder only to find an unassuming egg.

As he wound his way back through the eggs, he let his hand drift over the shell of the Mummy's egg and mentally reached out it with empathy. You were so very right, there are so many lackluster dolts around. I would apologize on their behalf but then I would be demeaning myself wouldn't I? I wish you the best, little one. I liked you most. A smile, an earnest gesture of support, and Gavryl was back among the Candidates as they were ushered off the Sands.

He rather hoped he'd get a chance later on after the ridiculousness had been addressed to return and at least say hello to the Mummy again. Whatever happened, he hoped that one found a partner.

No response, not that she deserved it with her outburst. A heavy sigh pulled from her lips as Amra stood once more. About to leave the sands herself anyway, she'd had enough and meant fully to talk to Master A'ral to apologize for her beheavior over the incident with the Mummy, a flurry of images smashed into her head. Whirlwind shrieked as he appeared and wrapped himself around her neck suddenly as all the images and feelings indicated only one thing: DUCK!

Dancer's training coming into play, the young woman dropped to her back, knees bent and careful to not smush her beloved fire lizard. A giant golden tail swept the air she'd just occupied. If she had been left standing there... Amra ran a hand over the small brown back wrapped tightly to her throat and lifted her head to see if any other parts of a dragon were nearby to wallop her.

Gray eyes took in a form, prone on the ground, and many a teenager and healer running towards it. As if an untrained teenager could do anything? Rising carefully off the sands as A'ral words met her ears, she cast a glance back towards the fallen queen rider and heeded the words. Her head throbbed with a full on ache, so many things had slid sideways during this Touching and while maybe a few good bonds had been made, was it worth it? Amra wasn't sure, but she certainly hoped for the best despite herself.

Shahera watched in surprise and growing horror as things just sort of fell apart around her. She knew that there were many young ones about but really, couldn’t they control themselves for one afternoon? She was going to have to make some candidate lives …interesting… for a while in revenge. For it would be revenge, revenge for cutting the touching short, revenge for causing panic, but mostly revenge for endangering people.

A’ral’s order rang through the area like a bell. It was to be followed without question, that she understood. But she did take time to find those she cared about and make sure they were all right. Shard it all… Dolly… Shahera sighed, and marched in the opposite way of the exit to grab Dolmar by the back of his shirt.

“Come on you dolt. We have to go. NOW.” She pulled his hands off the egg gently but firmly and began literally dragging the boy towards the exit. “Vimiath’s has collapsed, Vimiath almost, somehow, killed a candidate, A’ral has ordered us off the sands, the High Reaches Candidates are ordered off the sands, the healers are here, and you better believe that I am going to make sure that you do not end up cleaning up guts because you can’t get your head on right because of an egg.”

-----------------------------------------Dolmar-----------------------------------------

The sudden tug of fabric at his throat startled Dolmar, and he half twisted, meaning to snarl at whomever had dared...his hands slid from Demon, and the world seemed to swim back into focus. What'd he been...? A slow blink was his equivalent of shaking the haze off. Shards. He'd made a damn fool of himself, hadn't he? A coil of embarrassment unfurled in his gut, but now was not the time to mope. "Marinel, let's go," He called to his twin, waiting only long enough to see that Marinel had also risen to join him and Shahera in the trek off the sands.

A last glance back towards the eggs, lingering with fierce interest on Demon, and a vague sense of almost apology on Vampire, was all he spared. If they moved quick enough they wouldn't be left behind, nor look out of place for his own folly. His hand found Shahera's wrist, squeezing it gently, silently. Thank you. He'd never say it aloud. He did let her lead him off though. It was so very strange to have to grapple with the urge to disobey. If only today were the hatching day instead...

A raging gold was almost as scary as the huge waves out far at sea. Zombie had flopped—flopped! like a fish!—right over into her hands. She'd frozen, clinging to it as one of the other girls...A-something, she didn't know. One of the pretty but dull ones, she'd been the object of all the fuss. And nearly had her head bitten clean off for her trouble. Could dragons do that?! She'd ducked away from Zombie when the gold had charged (no offense little guy, it was women and children first...non-egg children at least!) but not quite fast enough, and a lash of the long golden tail took her legs clean out from under her. She wasn't too proud to crawl, so scuttle she did, eventually ending up rather near the exit before scrambling to her feet.

The sight of the gold's rider collapsed effected her...little more than if it'd been anyone else. She'd not been raised in Western...nor anywhere else, really. It was a shame, and she hoped the lady was alright, but it was no personal sorrow to her. She spluttered gritty sand and absently dusted the rest off of her. "Should we do anything?" Apparently return to the barracks was what they should do. Well. Maybe she'd swing by Ambrin's weyr...nah. A'ral seemed as mad as a wher with a bent tail. She might not give a trundlebug's arse for rules...but even pirates knew when not to push their luck!

-----------------------------------------Falienn-----------------------------------------

"Shad this dung, I'm out," Falienn muttered under his breath, making no hesitation about bee-lining for the gathering point for the High Reaches candidates. The touching had been effectively a bust. What a mess. He didn't even care for weyr life, and Western seemed to be making an exceptional mess of it. He shook his head, dark hair flying as he skulked with the rest of the young 'hopefuls'. What a mess.

-----------------------------------------A’iel & Nasath-----------------------------------------

A'iel could do little more than nod passively. This certainly wasn't done...but for now, they all had a job to do. As soon as he was commanded, he was on the move. Darting to Serfie's side, he nodded up at the green and extracted her, shrugging out of his cape to wind it about her. No one needed to see that she'd need new pants. She'd be feeling the keen p***k of the social spotlight soon enough. "You're alright? You're alright, c'mon." His voice was low, soothing, as one might take with a frightened animal. Nasath was whining and shuffling as he pulled the girl back over. The gold and her rider's distress had upset him, and what had almost happened with the candidate...A'iel had never seen his eyes so white outside of threadfall before. "Just over here, for now...We need to get this settled." The candidates to the barracks. Healers to the sands. What was he to do with one rogue stripling? New pants, first, and then...the barracks. And for goodness sake, he was going to do his best to keep her focused on him, not the chaos, and well in his sights! She'd not go running wild again...please.

"No, I just got over here, I was in the stands when it happened." Quickling, Nora set to checking Talela over. He spared a glance at Vimiath, watching the dragon. "Vimiath's still here, that's a good sign. Means she IS still with us." That'd be just their luck, having a goldrider die right before her dragon's clutch hatched, leaving the hatchlings half-orphaned before they'd even actually hatched.

Plague appeared out of between, gliding over to Norathoman with his own bag. He accepted it gladly, giving the flit a scratch on the cheek. "That's a good girl, thank you, Plague." His attention went back to Talela, "She may have just been knocked out." He hoped, at any rate.

Roana clung to the calm cool feeling coming from the wraith egg like a life raft while the rest of the touching went to hell in a hand basket around her. The egg had screamed then Vimiath was charging at a candidate and looked like she had every intention of biting her in half. Roana quailed and an unbidden gasp passed her lips. Dragons didn't hurt humans! Not past hatching at least, that had been one of the golden rules driven into their minds by the candidate master.

But now, other lessons came to play forefront in her mind, the ones shared by holders and sea crafters alike of dragons attacking and even killing in defense of their riders. She didn't even realize that the weyrwoman was down until the great golden queen she had been focused on turned and tried to rouse her rider. More screaming and cries of alarm from the candidates around her.

However the red head knew she couldn't do anything, she was no healer and crowding the old woman would do more harm than good. With a meekness that was quite outside her usual character she skirted around the edge of the sands and headed out, back towards the brackets as commanded

He'd frozen. The egg he'd just been touching had screamed, the Gold had charged, and he'd stood there like a Faranth cursed idiot, waiting to be killed by a berserk Gold dragon! As though he hadn't had a thought in his head. He wasn't hurt, and he had Migel to thank. As always. As ever. The realization of what had happened seeped through him, and he realized that the sands were rapidly clearing. A'ral's and Gr'del's orders. Well, shaffit, wasn't this a fine mess? "I'm fine. Let's get out of here." Even though they had done nothing untoward, he fully expected to face the music. The Candidatemaster seemed to be ready to tear them apart, although he knew from experience that the man was more bark than bite.

Cesare leaned into Migel for just a moment, trying to wordlessly convey his thanks. He was too proud to say it aloud, but surely his bodyguard knew. No one knew him quite as Migel did. "Then you can tell me what you thought of them." No explanation, but he didn't need one. The eggs, obviously. It was his turn to lead, and so he led Migel toward the exit. Talela had collapsed from the strain of keeping Vimiath at bay, which was a really worrying thought. What would she do during the Hatching, assuming she survived it? Given what the eggs had already exhibited, he had the feeling that things were going to get very interesting indeed.

Serfie shook while trapped by Zinath, while she was sure she wasn't going to be hurt, since if the dragon meant harm, she'd be harmed by now, she wasn't comfortable at all, especially where Nasath made her feel safe, it was strange how different, the Green scared her yes but not as much as she could have been afraid, if not for A'iel and Nasath's influence over the past weeks. It helped a lot to have Nasath in her head, even his voice made her feel safer, her breathing slowed and she wasn't quite as panicked, but still afraid. "It's ok Nasath ... it......" she tried again not to cry in front of people whatsoever, especially as she seemed to feel his distress through his voice.

Then it happened, the snarl that issued from the Gold chilled Serfie to the bone, there was no intelligence in those raging eyes for a moment, the Gold had turned from the Dragons she was getting to know, into the Monster of her childhood and she SCREAMED, had she been a dragon, it would have rivalled that of Banshee or Mummy, thankfully she wasn't and it was only audible to those close by, she wasn't the only one either, she was sure she heard other kids scream too. She shook, she trembled, she practically gibbered, nonononono, A'iel had sworn dragons couldn't hurt people but there was the Gold, she was about to EAT that girl.....

Just as suddenly the Gold froze, her eyes showing herself once more, even red as they were. She couldn't breathe, it was like time stood still and she was on the verge of a very real panic attack but .. the Gold didn't eat the girl ... she drew back, even as her rider collapsed to the Sands and somewhere in the back of her mind she wondered if the dragon was going to jump Between but that would be something she would remember thinking much later, right now her brain was a scramble, she wanted, needed to get away, run, hide, fight wasn't even on her mind, she was back in the forest, the Whers running past her thorn wall, she shook hard, even though the gold was now, sort of calm ...

She squealed in alarm when the green spoke in her mind, calm? calm? she couldn't quite DO calm right now but she tried, tried to choke back the sobs forming, she didn't even realise tears were streaming down her face at this point.... she couldn't get away, she didn't even HAVE a safe place here, unless it was Nasath.... She barely felt A'iel wrapping his cloak about her, moving as if in a daze "she...she....she....she almost ATE her....you..you said they couldn't....." she whispered at him, her voice hitching through sobs .... even as she clung too him, she wanted to run, to run away and not look back.

Farellen was okay with not getting a response from the Zombie egg and he was about to move to another when Vimiath barelled among them to get to the girl that had hurt one of the eggs, he wasn't sure how she had though, as even a hearty slap to the shell couldn't hurt the dragon inside, not with an open hand anyway and he was pretty sure the girl didn't have a weapon.

He froze as Vimiath opened her jaws and almost ATE the girl, her teeth almost closing in on her, then he spotted Talela on the sands, motionless, a second before Vimiath stopped, leaving the girl unharmed, physically at least. "AUNTIE!" he screamed, running to her side, dropping to his knees before being brushed away moments later by the Healers "no... Auntie...." his voice caught, she wasn't dead, she couldn't be, hopefully she was just passed out, Vimiath wasn't keening or going between so she COULDN'T be dead...... right? The whole thought stayed with him as he numbly moved off the Sands with other candidates ... this touching was well and truly OVER ... Faranth help them for the Hatching....

Kieza felt the protectiveness that extended from the Gargoyle Egg before the large form of the great Queen barreled across the sands toward another girl. She was stunned when the Queen's jaws went at the girl in a vicious manner, only to see her rider fly at her before being swatted aside. It was at this moment Kieza was flung aside by the tip of a flailing tail, bruising her side, and as she stumbled back, trying to desperately avoid the eggs, she felt her ankle slip painfully to the side as the sands gave way beneath her feet. She fell to the sands, avoiding the Hunter Egg as she hit the sands.

She sucked in a breath, blinking sand from her eyes as she swung her body around to look toward the event transpiring around her. Vimiath's rider had fallen and laid still in the sands and Healers were responding. A flurry of activity was occurring, and Kieza wanted desperately to help. Her ankle gave an angry throb as she moved her foot and she gritted her teeth against it. Briefly, she let her hand touch the spotted shell of the Hunter Egg, making sure it was alright and that no damage had befallen it. After a cursory look, she deemed that it was alright.

Now for the fun part.

Bracing herself, she pushed herself upward to a standing position and let out a long sigh as she A'ral's booming voice across the sands ordering the High Reaches Candidates to depart. It took her a few moments to gather herself before she stumbled through the sands toward the gathering of other Candidates. She looked back toward the forlorn Queen and her fallen rider and felt a wave of sympathy, and sadness that any of this had even transpired.

As she neared the exit, a little green Firelizard appeared out of Between and attached to the girl's hair, angrily creening as it clung to Kieza, sending waves of anger over her, a feeling of HOW DARE THEY rolling through her mind, as if it were the dragons' fault she was injured. "Bug, calm yourself. I'm fine. I tripped. I bruised it, that is all." She coaxed the firelizard to finally detach itself from her hair and it instead clung to her arm, a tail firmly wrapped around it in a deathgrip.

Isilje was quick to follow orders, hurrying away from the sands with the other High Reaches candidates. There was fear in her heart, a knowing that something was VERY much not right....Faranth help them all.

Kutar of Green Wrenth

Mine. Mine, wake up...They need Healers on the sands. If it weren't for Wrenth's gentle prodding, Kutar might've slept the entire way through. As it was, the call from the Bronze, for Healers Had her out of bed in an instant. The rider pulled their clothes about them, a loose tunic, and flowing trousers, boots, and goggles to rest atop dark hair, and ran. Wrenth spurred them on, with news of what had happened. Vimiath's rider had collapsed. Eggs were upset. At the least, they could do something about it. Letting out a shaking breath, she BOLTED to the sands, and skidded to a stop as she moved in to look for the issue. Talela....down. Her heart leaped in to her throat, and she was instantly moving in, "How can I help."

Haukai nodded at Nora's words, gently probing around Talela's neck and spine with her fingers. Nothing seemed wrong, at least not that she could feel. And yes, it was definitely a good sign that Vimiath was still there. It meant that Tally was still with them, could be put to right and healed. She asked Corymth mentally if he would question the gold, see if Vimiath could ascertain the condition of her rider. That would be a HUGE help in treatment.

I'll do that, the dark blue dragon said. Vimiath, Mine wants to know if you can still speak to Yours. Can you reach her at all? Can you tell what is going on in her head?

Digging through her crash kit, Haukai removed her stethoscope and putting the earpieces on, listened to Talela's heart and lungs as two more healers appeared on scene, Isilje and Aislin. Everything sounded fine; breathing was shallow and a bit ragged, but heart was beating normally. The Weyrlingmaster barked orders for the Western Candidates to return to their barracks, and she glanced up as Isilje reluctantly obeyed. Another healer soon appeared, Kutar. Good, one for one. Asking Corymth to brief Wrenth and her rider on what they'd found so far, the trauma healer put away the stethescope and heaved a calming sigh. What a mess.

"Okay, I think it's safe to turn her over." Haukai positioned herself at Talela's head and shoulders. "You," she pointed at Kutar, "at her feet. You," and she indicated Aislin, "on one side, and Nora, you take the other. Gently, on my mark... one, two, three."

Apate had stayed close to the sparkling Goblin Egg the blue eyes watching it rather intently with a look of amusement on his face until the gold dragon from the corner of his eye moved swiftly. Someone had done something, and for once he wished he had paid enough attention to what the candidate had done to cause the mother to react so viciously in such a quick moment that had set everyone on edge of their feet. It was only a glimpse but he had seen the cage of teeth linger over the younger woman before withdrawing cautiously away. The queen’s rider had fallen and chaos was slowly creeping in as A’ral began to attempt to usher candidates to safety of the barracks. It wasn’t hard for the slim man to simply slip past others taking a few steps back with a rather amused look still playing along his lips. There was a little bit of jealously lingering, someone else other than himself had caused trouble and taken most of the attention tho it did come with the almost chance of being snapped in half easily by a dragon. Something he wished he could almost see, almost.

The goblin egg seemed fine though as Apate slinked along the edges, noting the crowd now hovering over the fallen rider. She would be fine, hopefully the young man thought as he finally made his own way to the barracks.

Yevalee (Western Candidate - noping off the sands)
Ooh dear. Yevalee gave the egg a soft farewell and stepped away as the Queen roared and very nearly killed a girl. Where they supposed to do that? They were rather sure they weren’t. What had she even done to get such a reaction? It was chaotic and loud and all together horribly unpleasant.

They nodded and left as order to their barrack. They could do nothing here and more bodies would just be a hassle and hopefully everyone would be okay. Perhaps someone could tell them if this was well normal for a touching? They rather doubted. Hopefully someone had stories of something worse…

Aly'on & Brown Ihiannsith (High Reaches rider)

No, no, no. Aly’on was up faster the his companion, having been more focused and half down the stands to the sand before he realized what he was doing. Ihiannsith curled up in his mind a distracted warm presence. He stopped at the edge, not vaulting over like Nora and Rylyrr was moving and not bleeding as he could see. He partially collapsed against the rough edge of the stands, fear easing into anxiety.

‘Ihiannsith?’ he questioned, trusting his brown to get information and get it fast.

‘Siriath says to meet with him and shsshhh, beloved, mine, brilliant star,’ The brown rumbled soothingly. ‘Siriath! Ihiannsith is here, but mine is worried for his sibling and I do not believe he will willing part once the meet again.’ Ihiannsith felt out enough to brush his riders siblings mind and retreated to meet with the other. ‘Are we to meet with you? Where do you want mine?

Rylyrr (High Reaches Candidate, leaving, one big bruise)
Rylyrr sighed and slowly and achingly got to his feet. Okay, sitting down had been a mistake because it just made all the aches worse. They had rested and now they complained as he needed them to stretch and shift. He favored his right side, trying to keep most of his weight towards his left and started a slow sort of ouch shuffle off the sands.

He was going to take a long hot bath when they got back and see a healer though he was certain everything was just very nastily bruised, and get some sort of painkillers and take one long, long nap. Please by the golden eggs just let him be able to take bath, healer, pain killers, and nap.
