[This RP shall occur after the Touching at Western Weyr and some time before the occurrence of the Hatching ICly.]

User ImageUser ImageYarala looked out over the sands from Vorzeth's broad shoulders, one hand wrapped around one large neckspine. A cold rain fell, darkening her riding leathers and chilling her skin, but the sun was finally beginning to rise, turning the sky a shade of glistening orange and vibrant purple. Beauty unparalleled. Vorzeth spoke to her, his large jaws spreading as he let out a large and rather loud yawn erupted from him and he shook his mighty head from side to side, shaking water droplets from him and spattering his rider in the process. Yarala let out a guffaw, raising her arms to shield her face. "Vorzeth!" She let out a short laugh. "You say that about every sunrise though... Don't you have any other words you could add, my silly brown dragon?" She said, scratching his mighty neck before standing up in the saddle, leaning to the side to peer toward the ground some twenty feet below them as life began to stir with the morning sun.

With a loud intake of breath and a long release in a sigh, she dug her heels softly into Vorzeth's sides as she signaled him to take off. At her motions, he spread his wings, sneding a cascade of water down on any who might have been passing below them at that moment, and in one great movement leapt from their perch, wings pushing downward to push his great body upward into the lightening sky. Yarala allowed her breaths to come and go in controlled motion, keeping herself as calm as possible, though even after two years of flying it was still an ecstatic feeling to be defying what kept everything planted surely on the ground.

From the vantage of about 2000 feet up they could make out in the distance the sparkling water that hugged the coastal lands and the buffeting winds brought the scent of the salty ocean. It wouldn't take long for them to take a flight to the ocean and back in time for breakfast, but instead Vorzeth slanted hard to the left and then to the right, making Yarala let out a squeak as she clung to her saddlehorn. Vorzeth! She yelled at him, but only received a rumble of laughter as an answer as he tucked his wings to calmly allow them to spiral toward an expanse of rocks and sand. With a body-shaking whumpfh, Vorzeth made contact with the ground, claws digging once, twice, thrice as he hopped a few times to slow himself. He didn't like to admit it but he had still not quite mastered landing.

He let out a loud bugle in greeting to the morning as sunlight finally escaped the confines of the horizon and shone across the land and Yarala shielded her eyes as she smiled.

Something about today felt like it would be filled with adventure.

Candidate Rinis

It was early. Nothing new for Rinis as a candidate she was use to rising with the sun. Chores to do, lessons to study. Her first order of business as every morning was feeding Chaek. She was steadily popping pre-cut chunks of meat into his eager maw. The young woman smiled fondly to herself, thinking that soon the eggs would hatch and potentially twenty-five new riders would be feeding their dragonets like this for the first time.

They were nearly done when a brown came in for a landing. It wasn't the most graceful one she'd ever seen done. When the brown dragon gave a greeting call, her brown Chaek reared up on his haunches and returned it in a much higher voice. Rinis smiled and gave a wave toward dragon and rider. They were feeling perky this morning.

Vosin and Killakeeth

Things needed to be done early. Vosin chose to rise with the sun. Not before the sun mind, but with it. If the sun wasn't peaking above the horizon, she wasn't peeking out of her covers. However it was up, and so was she. The same could not be said for her dragon. If she was given her choice, Killakeeth would sleep almost the whole day away. The only way Vosin had been able to drag the large dragon from her large sandy wallow on the beach was with the promise of food.

The pair wandered slowly toward the feeding pens. Vosin pondered once more the eggs on the sands. It was getting closer to hatching, and she could sense the energy in the air. Riders, dragons, and particularly candidates were eagerly awaiting the call. She had been amused when Western decided to open its gate to High Reaches Weyr for their candidates; even more surprised when those stiff necks came. Granted it was an extra chance to find their dragon that they otherwise wouldn't have.

"What did you think of the candidates?" She asked the plump gold pacing by her side. Killakeeth gave a wordless rumble, then, I am glad they are not standing for my clutch. Vosin's lips twitched, "don't let Vimiath hear you say that." Why not? She shook her head, "you wouldn't want anyone saying that about your eggs would you?" Vosin knew the real problem was that she hadn't been able to go out and search for more candidates herself. She hoped Talela was doing well.

Killakeeth rumbled in amusement, completely distracted by a browns less that graceful landing. It was perhaps a bit too early for cheerful greetings though. She hadn't even eaten yet.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Wings touched the first rays of sunlight, lighting the overlapping blues on Diesteth's wings as he sailed through the sky. Cool rain splattered across his back and drenched his rider as the big blue rode up into the light to greet the newest day. Luckily Nicara had pulled her hair into a tight tail that morning or she would be trying to keep her plastered hair from her eyes as the pair rode further and further upward.

A streak of brown caught her blue's attention, eyes swirling in amusement at the rather ungainly landing his Wingmate managed. It had been two years admittedly since the pair had Impressed and joined Yokohama but Diesteth kept a watchful eye on the larger brown dragon during maneuvers and practice in the interest of nothing happening to him. Though he could often be off in his own world he did care about younger dragons, especially in their particular Wing.

Vorzeth and his have taken flight this morning as well beloved, should we go and say hello?

Nearly starting in surprise at the mention, having been lost in a moment of calm reflective silence, the whip thin woman tilted her head to look towards the younger woman below her. Only then did the bugle meet her ears, swept away by the wind as it had been Nicara had nearly missed it. Her eyes narrowed a bit as she noticed another rider in the morning air as well, a gold rider on the back of a huge Queen, flaming red hair flying in the wind. Golds had never impressed her other than her respect for their adding to the population of fighting dragons, all the same she would never allow anyone to hear her say that aloud lest it offend.

Turning her attention to Yarala and letting a gentle smile cross over her face she sent the command to Diesteth to descend. A loud whistling bugle came from the blue's muzzle as he arched backwards in the air, curving backwards until he was upside down and pointed straight towards the ground. Pulling in his wings he spiraled down through the sky as if falling, eyes always on the pair below him so he would not lose his focus. With a short distance between himself and the ground the dragon straightened himself out and whizzed mere feet over the ground until he was close enough to dip his wings and slow to a gliding stop beside the larger brown.

"Show off!" Nicara exclaimed, not quite a shout but certainly not quiet either as her hair had been pulled from it's tail from the speed of Diesteth's acrobatic arrival.

Now even more thoroughly soaked than she had been even moments before, she wrung out her hair and pulled it back into a tail before offering a wave to the younger woman. Blue eyes danced in amusement despite herself and she could hardly keep the thrill from showing, there was nothing quite like riding on a dragon.

User ImageUser ImageAh, darling YaralaMine, we are no longer alone, it seems others have heard my morning song and joined us. Vorzeth preened for a moment, his eyes swirling blue and green as his large neck and head spanned down to the level of the smaller Blue's. Merry met, Diesteth. You and Yours are up early this fine morning. He rumbled contentedly at his Wingmate, eying the blue and then the woman atop his back before raising his head at the sight of the Gold making her appearance. Raising his neck to it's lengthy limit, he let loose another long roar that echoed in the quiet morning air in greeting. Good morning, beautiful golden one! He sounded off toward Killakeeth.

"You are so incredibly loud..." Yarala murmured, a hand coming up to her face as she shook her head at her beloved Vorzeth's antics. But a smile pulled at her lips and she turned in her saddle to look toward Nicara. "Good morning, Nicara! Not getting too wet in this rainfall, are you?" She teased, her dark eyes hiding mirth at Nicara's disheveled appearance. Though, as she stated this, her hands reached up to pulled back at the tangled mass of dark and saturated hair.

It was almost impossible to keep her hair from tangling, but she was certain later she would take a comb and oil to it to tame it thoroughly before bedtime.

But! The day was just beginning and this was not the time to think of warm beds! Vorzeth rumbled in his chest in amusement at rider's thoughts, and he shook his body from tip of nose to tail tip, making Yarala grip the saddle and let out an exasperated gasp, giving the great dragon a scratch on his neck-scales.

Candidate Rinis

Rinis practically froze as she spotted one of the Weyr's gold walking sedately by. With luck the rider wouldn't notice her. Her tongue suddenly felt like it was stuck to the roof of her mouth. Why oh why did she have to walk by? Why couldn't it have been a nice green?

She smiled as a blue made a spectacular entrance. That was some fancy flying! Rinis hoped she would be caring for her own dragon soon. Soon. She turned her attention back to Chaek and made sure his wings were properly coated with oil now. It was unlikely the riders would want her to butt in, but she gazed longingly at them. Her mind on the eggs in the sand and the possibility of one holding her own dragon. The hatching couldn't come soon enough!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vosin and Killakeeth
The candidate hadn't gone completely unnoticed though. The gold turned one whirling blue eye toward her. Because I am gold and you will just have to deal with that, Killakeeth replied directly to the candidate oiling a firelizard on a nearby rock. A green indeed! It would be nice if she could have more Flights like a green, but alas it wasn't meant to be. Such was the life of a gold.
Unaware of the exchange, Vosin continued to walk. She waved to the riders as their dragons landed. A few were early risers as well. Too bad she couldn't get Killakeeth up early enough to see the sunrise a dragonback. Maybe some day she could bribe the dragon. Maybe a chance to go out and Search? Or at least that's what she could say, and let the holders admire Killa. That would probably cheer the gold some.
As they got closer she nodded to the blue's rider. "Nice flying." It was a fancy manuver. Vosin wasn't sure how useful it'd be during a Fall, but it certainly looked pretty in the early dawn light with that blue's wing patterns. She only hoped the blue had better sense that to go splat on the ground. That definitely wouldn't help.
Killakeeth also noticed the blue's daring acrobatics. She trilled her approval of the fancy move. The gold arched her neck at the brown's greeting. Greetings to you and yours. A delightful morning wouldn't you say Vorzeth? She paused to speak with these dragons a moment longer. Her breakfast could wait that long. Vosin has just asked my opinion of the candidates. Did you see them? Perhaps their observations could provide her some amusement.
With only so many restdays available to them as candidates, Mattavi never wanted to waste a minute of one, waking up up well before dawn to make her way out to the shore and spend as many hours as she could out on the water. She might have made a home here at the Weyr, but there was a part of her heart that always resided on the sea.
There was a sheltered bay where she kept her boat tied up. Of course, it was open to general use of the Weyr as well, kept for those who needed to keep up with their craft between their other duties. Lex had given her the boat as a present, when his fortunes had taken a turn for the better. She hated to say it, but piracy suited him more than she cared to admit. Of course, having seen the darker underbelly of the legal shipping industry, she couldn't much blame him for not putting his faith in legitimate seacraft business.
She pulled the rope she was holding until it snapped taut, the sail catching the wind and speeding them out across the waves in a wide arc back towards the shore. The weather wasn't great, but it wasn't so bad that it would interfere with her sailing. Still, it wasn't raining when she'd set out that morning, and she was soaked to the bone now, her light clothes providing little protection.
She was happy to see that there were others willing to brave the rain that morning as well. The brilliant sunrise certainly made up for it. Raising a hand to her eyes, she waved up at the dragons flying overhead, grinning at their antics. She banked sharper towards the shore, jumping out in the shallow water (it's not like her clothes could get any wetter, although she did take her shoes off first) to drag the small vessel onto the sand. "Lively morning, isn't it?" she said, saluting towards the riders.
"No more trouble with the rain than you seem to be having yourself, Yarala!" Nicara's amusement for her own predicament seemed to pale in comparison to the tangle of hair about her Wingmate's head. At least her feathery hair complied when she wished it to. "What brings the two of you out so early on such a dreary day?"
After the disasterous Touching not long before Nicara had found sleep coming later and later in the night as stress won out over reason. Two candidates that she had hand picked in Rivercrest had been on the Sands when Vimiath had nearly eaten a human. Luckily it hadn't been one of them but she still found her nerves chafing raw with the realization that this hatching was going to be somewhat dangerous. If she had lost sleep over the thoughts of Candidates mauled and killed by dragonets and a murderous gold alike then only Diesteth knew of her secrets in the earliest moments of morning.
One of her dark eyebrows lifted when she heard Vosin speak, of course she knew quite well the Junior Weyrwomen in Western and she made a point to bow her head slightly to the smaller woman. Still astride Diesteth's back it made for a comical sight surely but the blue was otherwise occupied.
"Thank you, he takes matters into his own hands when he's enjoying free time. Luckily he doesn't attempt such stunts during Threadfall or training lest we have words."
Morning is the best of times to fly and no amount of rain shall keep us from greeting it. What brings you out so early yourself Vorteth?
Lifting his wedged head carefully, not wanting to stand out under the eye of a gold, even if she had professed her approval, Diesteth allowed a soft rumble to pull from him in acknowledgement. Far be it for him to discard a compliment from a gold despite what his rider might appreciate.
We picked up two a week before the Touching who seem to have spirit. Most of them seem afraid in the aftermath, though they surely aren't the only ones. We could ask the one coming up the sand just now though.
Inclining his head in the direction of the newest human on the beach, the large blue allowed his eyes to swirl an impish mix of green and blue.
A grin pulled at the large dragon's lips, baring his fangs, and yet the swirling colors of his eyes bid that he was of warm spirits, and a rumble vibrated in his chest that made Yarala herself laugh softly. The morning beckoned us to rise before the sun to watch it's glorious dance through the heavens. The rain was... unexpected. Just a chill upon the scales, no? He mused, before sweeping his great head upward, shaking it up and down as he answered the Golden dragon. My rider and I are under the opinion that it does not hurt to spread the wealth. If we as dragons are meant to thrive like we did in older times, we must find strong Candidates for our kind to Impress to. There are some vibrant minds among the Candidates of High Reach. Alas, we could run into the prospect of weak ones among both Western and High Reach Weyr. At the approach of a young Candidate, his large head swept around, coming close to the ocean-soaked child (or child in his large eyes). They shined brilliantly in the sunlight, the colors shifting blue and green in his uninhibited amusement and clear happiness, as if his statement was in front of him, though which it was this Candidate might represent - weak or strong - it was still too soon to know.
Yarala shook her head, her dragon acting more like he did a year ago in his weyrling state of gangly puppy-like curiosity and delight. Granted, now he could actually fly on those large wings, though the bore him poorly and he still had not quite mastered their underlying strength. She was still proud of him, and watching him every moment was a treat when she knew that he was hers. Hers only. She mulled over Nicara's question and shook her wet head for a moment, laughing uncharacteristically. "The long stress of the past few sevendays has made me weary, and something... something about today. I could not stay cozy in my weyr waiting for the rain to stop!" She turned her eyes down to those below, and in a tested motion, she unclasped her legs from the saddle and pulled herself free, and without a signal, Vorzeth's great body crouched close to the ground, allowing his rider to slide down to his elbow and then slide oncemore to the ground. Yarala took a few steps, pins and needles spreading through her legs as she finally stood again on solid ground. The Brown spread his wings slightly and Yarala welcomed the cover of his wings from the rainfall as she strained water from her locks.
Vorzeth raised himself slightly, his eye still pinned on the Candidate in his sights, her name... he picked it from Yarala... Mattavi. Hello little Candidate... though I reckon to say you're the most... saturated Candidate I have seen.
Ghost was gone.
Ryala had awakened early, in the interests of getting her young blue flit some breakfast, hoping to spare her fellow candidates from his (to her) surprisingly loud squeals. Mostly, he was rather quiet... except for when he was professing hunger.
Only now, she'd awoken to discover that he was not there.
Breathe, she told herself, pushing down the panic that tried to overwhelm her. He can't have gone far. Shells, he might even have gone to the kitchens already! Heartened by this thought, the girl quickly dressed and went out.
Thankfully, Ghost was just outside. Chirping a quiet greeting, his thoughts were full of... wet. Hunger, and wet. It took Ryala a moment before she understood. He was curious about the rain, and interested in breakfast. Well, he had mostly been inside since that night at the Gather, as he'd done pretty much nothing except eat and sleep since. But he was barely out of the shell, and babies seemed to do that a lot. Still, today he seemed interested in doing a little more.
Interesting...
Noticing a few dragons heading for an area of the beach, Ryala considered joining them for a time. Surely, if she were not allowed, they would be quick to redirect her back here. Otherwise, it would be nice to get to know more of the people here, dragons included. Besides, Ghost could try his luck at fishing.
Deciding, she tucked her damp red hair behind her ears and strolled over, Ghost a silent presence winging just above and behind her.
Candidate Rinis
Maybe the rider hadn't noticed her, but the dragon certainly had. Rinis jumped slightly as the gold spoke directly to her, slightly upsetting Chaek. She hadn't expected that! Confused she ducked her head and mumbled an apology. She wasn't use to other dragons speaking her. Not even her friend's blue spoke to her. So why would a gold?
She looked up as another candidate arrived. By sail? Apparently. Rinis would rather have a nice party to attend. Something where she could possibly dress up a bit. It always made her feel better. With the light rain, some people might be staying inside and start an impromptu party. She'd need to go look after she finished oiling Chaek.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vosin and Killakeeth

Vosin inclined her head slightly back to Nicara. She smiled at her words about no fancy flying during threadfall. "That shows he's agile and smart; and good sense on your part. He stands out well in the morning light." She was thinking of possible shows, but with thread falling rider's free time was severely curtailed. Pity. She'd have enjoyed watching him perform acrobatic stunts. Vosin sensed Killakeeth speaking to someone else, although she didn't hear what was said specifically, then sensed her attention shift back to the dragons.

Killakeeth listened with interest to the blue. Two? That's not bad. She gave a feral grin, showing her teeth. The Touching was..... lively. While she hadn't watched it specifically, she'd heard the commotion. What a great show it must have been for Vimiath to nearly eat a candidate. She gave a large snort, they will get over it should they wish to Impress.

Her attention turned to the brown, ah! So we are stealing candidates from High Reaches? And they don't even know it. What fun! Her eyes whirled green. Yes strong candidates are preferred over weak ones. This will be a good test to see who has spine to return. Oh she was going to enjoy watching this hatching. Yessssss. If Vimiath nearly ate one, think of what her hatchlings were going to do. Killakeeth couldn't wait.

Vosin noticed another candidate join the wet group on the beach. They sure were all over the place. She'd noticed they became more.... obvious? perhaps was the word, when a hatching was about due. She waved to the girl.

In every waking moment since the Touching, Oerlen had thought of little else. The warm sands, the sun, all those little personalities in his head—it had been the most exciting day of his life. It had also been a bit of a shame that so much had gone wrong. Or maybe they were all like that. He had nothing similar to compare it to, but Vimiath... the whole experience had seemed rather rough by the time it had ended.

In the brief moments before he'd have to start cleaning up after dragons and oiling dragons and learning about dragons, Oer headed toward the beach and, yes, more dragons. He certainly held no animosity toward the magnificent creatures or he wouldn't have agreed to come here, he was just learning a different way of caring for others, and it was nothing if not tiring.

The young man grinned at those he could see: a handful of Candidates with their firelizards, and dragons dragons dragons. He waved too, announcing his presence with a cheery, bellowing, "Good morning, all!" as he approached. "What's everyone doing on this fine day?"

Vorzeth lifted his head and snaked it around to face the new faces of more Candidates. His eyes shone with mirth, enjoying the multitudes gathering moreso than his rider, who leaned lightly against his leg. She scratched at his leg lightly, making his great tail's tip flick at the lovely feeling, his inner eyelid closed momentarily as he relished the scratching, an itch sated that he didn't notice. Ah, more little ones to join our foray. He mused as Yarala stood up straight oncemore and walked over to stand next to his head, which was almost as large as his rider's 5'8" height. "Good morning, Candidates." Yarala said, her tone polite and filled with energy. She remembered the nerves that spread through her when she had watched the Hatching and the indescribable elation that filled her when Vorzeth had chosen her forever to be His. "Its a pleasure to see so many awake this morning, particular to you wonderful Candidates. How goes the lessons for how to care for these great beasts?" She said, her mind seeming to open like a filing cabinet, ready to share all the knowledge she had gleaned from her years in the Archives. Vorzeth bumped his great head against her and a light grin appeared on her face as she laughed. "I don't think they want to scratch you, you giant baby." Vorzeth huffed heavily - his breath could easily push back any who didn't have good balance in front of him. But the rain is making my hide itch! He complained balefully, letting out a groan, his mood tangible as one who was just trying to be amusing to pick on his rider.

Yarala laughed at her lovely brown, rubbing his cheek lovingly, her gaze warm as she turned her attention to Oerlen. "Today feels like a good day, after this rain passes and sun finally decides to clear the skies of these clouds, I think we should find something to do with all this morning energy maybe!" Vorzeth snaked his head away from Yarala and closer to Oerlen in an attempt to receive more scratches from others, especially enticing younglings who needed to get used to giant dragons up close and personal.

Sliding out of the riding gear strapped to Diesteth's back, Nicara leaned against the large blue's leg as she watched yet more candidates appear up the beach. It was going to be quite the lively group soon and she wasn't overly fond of groups in general. Rather she be in the air, rain streaming over her cheeks as the wind made it dance crazily down her dragons wings. For now she could stay, tolerate the crowd for the sake of dragon and wingmate.

"The past few days have been eventful in the wake of such a..." words failed her, any description she may have had for the Touching was more negative than she wished to express in company. "Interesting Touching. The candidates we chose have been on my mind. At least their safety."

Turning to offer a soft, if brief, smile to Vosin, Nicara allowed herself to think of each flight. Diesteth was lively in the air, acrobatic and graceful beyond what she would have believed any dragon to be. "He always does me proud and never requires a heavy touch."

Morning offers many opportunities that some might squander. If the sun rises so must I!

Spreading his wings wide against the rain the blue offered a hum when he realized which girl came towards him. Of course he could still tell Ryala apart from any candidate he met, it had been her character that had drawn him in. He hadn't the time to ask her how the Touching had gone for her and curiosity piqued.

Eyes swirling an orange for the thought of the Touching once more he looked upwards at the large queen.

Dangerous, there is much to be concerned about these days

Candidate Rinis

She looked up as another candidate arrived with a cheery greeting for all. All in all, she was quite content to remain where she was and watch the others. Rinis chuckled quietly as the brown appeared to beg for scratches from those gathering around. She would have been happy to provide him with scratches Too bad about this light rain though. Hopefully it would clear out before the morning wore too far on.

She looked curiously at the brown's rider. "Did you have something in mind? I might be game." It might be fun to tag along with a rider if they needed help or something.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vosin and Killakeeth
She nodded at Nicara's careful statement about the Touching. She knew what the woman was getting at. It was a good sign for an active clutch, yet were the candidates worthy of it? "Excellent!" Indeed. One shouldn't have to worry about a Touching or Hatching. Do you think the candidates will behave themselves at the Hatching?
Vosin grinned and chuckled at Oerlen's bright greeting. "Paused on our way to the feeding pens. I should exercise her afterwards." Which she knew the dragon would dislike. Vosin tried to not let her get too fat. Some days it just wasn't worth the battle. "What brings you out on a drizzling morning like this?"
Killakeeth turned her head to eye the young man who hailed the group. Good morning young one, she replied to Oerlen. Vosin looked over at Yarala also curious. "If you need an extra transport beast, I'll volunteer Killakeeth." The gold gave a mock snort at being called a transport beast.
For just a second, Oerlen grew wary of what might happen if he expended all of his supposed morning energy before he got to his actual chores, but his concern passed before he could really dwell on it at all. He was still young enough that consequences were usually brushed aside or ignored, especially when a brownrider was posing a challenge.
"I'd be curious to hear your plan as well," he said to Yarala, tentatively reaching out to scratch at Vorzeth's massive head. He muttered a, "Good morning," to the queen as well, concentrating more on replying to the voice with his mind than he probably should have for one who was not His. "Apologies," he said as he straightened up and looked at Killakeeth properly. "A lovely morning to a most lovely gold and her rider."
