It was a beautiful spring evening to be out in the Weyr bowl cleaning and watching all the weyrlings, both senior and junior now, finishing up their practice drills and training. His cleaning had thus far been fairly easy and even though he did his best to avoid the distraction of watching all those lovely dragons and their riders train, Rizdax just couldn't help himself. They were dragons for shards sake, he loved watching them and even though his hopes had been dashed at the most recent surprise hatching on that island, the still sunburned candidate had only had his desire to Impress to a dragon intensified by seeing so many up close. Impression was a beautiful thing to watch, it had to feel even better than that.

A laugh pulled from him when his tiny blue fire lizard popped in front of his face in a whirlwind of wings and little scratchy claws. Since he'd gotten so badly sunburned at the hatching it had been a bit of bad thing to have Phin scratch him up, but he tolerated the pain because he loved the blue beast deeply. Even if he was a bit of a fluster on his good days. One day Riz swore that he would have him completely trained so that he could carry notes around, but today was not that day.

Lifting a hand up to let the little blue lizard land, Riz propped the broom he'd been sweeping with against his side and rubbed Phin's forehead with a thumb. Sadly he didn't have any snacks for him like normal, he hadn't planned on him being awake for this bit after he'd fed him so well at lunch. It was rather impressive how well he found him each time he was hungry though.

If Dorame thought that becoming a Weyrling meant an end to the chores; she was sadly mistaken. However, having Heichath for company sure did soften the blow. Four turns she had been a candidate, four turns she had scrubbed the floors, made beds, polished silverware, cut potatoes and worked her little fingers to the bone. It was hard work, but nothing too laborious; it was worth the bed you slept on and the food in your belly. There were some rude Riders, some very entitled characters that had made the days harder - but even that was to be expected. There was hierarchy here, but now she was no longer looked at like she was a waste of space. A female blue rider, a rarity in itself, but with her giant Heichath; it was still getting some used to.

Still, even trainee Blue Riders had to sweep the floors. Heichath was curled up in a ball, letting his DorameMine get on with the work she had to complete today. They were still ‘bonding’ as Ashlyn had put it, so she was allotted a big chunk of time to just do that; still, he wished he could have her attention all the time. However, this did give him time to nap and watch the other Dragons as they did their drills. One day he would be flying with them; he was all too eager to grow up. Dorame could wait though, he was enough of a handful at his current size; she did not know how she would control him when was fully grown.

Heichath’s green eyes caught the sight of something interesting though, another blue creature like himself. His head cocked curiously; unwinding from his comfortable position to stand on his large feet. Dorame stopped to stare as soon as she heard him move, he was so clumsy looking, like his body was too big for the claws he walked on. At times it looked like he waddled, but he was too proud to admit to the fact. Where are you going Heichath? There was no reply though, he was off like a dragon possessed and all Dorame could do was rest her broom against the wall and follow.

DorameMine; look! It is a fire lizard! Blue like your Heichath! The young beat approached the boy and his lizard, pushing himself onto his hind legs so he could get a closer look at the creature, large wings keeping him balanced. The brunette shook her head; did other dragons sit like that? Or was this another thing that made hers unique?. “Heichath, you are being a hindrance. Leave the boy to do his chores in peace.” Dorame walked over to him, long brown hair stroking her back as she did. Her usual green dresses had been replaced with blue; as if she was a new mother busting with pride about the pelt her child wore.

Bright green eyes caught on the boy then, and she knew he was a boy because all men from the High Reaches towered over her tiny frame. “I apologise; he is at the age where everything must be investigated.” A hand on the dragon's shoulder she pushed him back down onto all four legs; Heichath just smiled brilliantly.

Your Heichath is never a hindrance, the candidate is blessed with Heichath’s presence and attention. Right? He asked the boy.

Rhiyn was glad it was Spring. Winter had seemed especially long this turn, what with the flu everyone but him had seemed to be dying with. Demanthra’s entire family had been ill! Her father, even. Which meant he couldn’t ask him if he thought she’d like the gift he’d made her.

So he hadn’t given it to her. It’d stayed in his pocket through chores and lessons. It felt like he was waiting for just the right moment, but he didn’t intend to give it to her until he was sure she’d like it. He had to ask someone. Chores were a good distraction from the weight in his pocket, and he did like watching the weyrlings. The new weyrlings were always fun to watch; so small, yet so big.

He caught sight of another boy. Or, rather, his firelizard did. Zara took off towards the two and gave a happy cheep. Rhiyn followed. “Sorry about her,” he said. “I guess she wanted to make friends with your blue.”

With the small blue lizard flying around him he was thoroughly distracted from everything else and wasn’t at all ready for the rather huge body of a blue hatchling appear in front of him when Riz had been trying to convince Phin that he really wasn’t hiding any bits of meat in his pockets. As he was getting further irritated and further irritated by the minute, the tiny blue gave a squawk of disapproval at first when he saw the giant dragon, popping Between briefly before reappearing behind Rizdax’s head. It earned a laugh from the redheaded Candidate and he reached behind him to snatch the little lizard from the air and bring him back forward for the perched dragon to look at.

“It’s okay Phin, stop freaking out. You’ve seen dragons before this, you hang out with the wild fairs of lizards enough that you should know how they operate by now. Say hello and stop being so rude to him, this big guy is just curious.” Riz offered, glancing up to smile at the rider that followed on the heels of the big blue. “He’s a giant isn’t he, you don’t have to apologize for him, I like meeting different dragons. Honestly there haven’t been that many that I’ve gotten a chance to see up close like this, first one was at the Hatching. Congratulations by the way!”

His normally brusque and prickly demeanor was melted away in the presence of the dragon that might have read into his emotions if he even thought something bad, not that he was. This mysterious girl with the long braid didn’t seem as though she were a bad person and he generally only reacted poorly to those that came across as too aggressive or rude. To be perfectly honest with himself, Riz realized that he had just babbled at her and that made him feel a bit embarrassed, he let go of Phin to rub the back of his head sheepishly in response to that thought and the small lizard was immediately accosted by another one of his kind. Phin’s dignity was getting stomped all over this afternoon, it made him want to laugh.

“Really little guy, its okay. They just want to say hello.” Rizdax told him, waving his hand around as the fire lizard danced about chittering at the two that had suddenly come upon him. He didn’t sound angry at least, more surprised, but it amused the redhead to no end since this was exactly the sort of thing that could be considered karma or payback of a sorts. Turning to face the boy that had called out to him, Riz waved “Don’t worry about it, he’s just being dramatic, he’ll calm down in a second. I think…”
