It was a hot, hot, hot day. Even in the high peaks of High Reaches it was almost intolerable in summer. The Weyr lacked the constant sea breezes of Balen Hold, and there was little to hold the climate in stasis. It made certain areas of the Weyr intolerable, and some chores downright torture, if you asked her. Thankfully since the golds' flights (and hadn't that been something to see?) even the most grouchy candidate had taken to the work with gusto. No one wanted ousted from the sands before the time came. Everyone wanted to be ready and attract a dragonet.

Zelaya meanwhile had been lucky, and gotten her work in the records rooms (blessedly cool and far from heat and light) done early. And so she'd done the only reasonable thing, and gone down to the kitchens. And she'd put together a large ceramic pitcher of sweet juice, dotted with a few bobbing, floating cubes of ice. A few clinking glasses wrapped in a soft fabric pouch at her side, and she was off. With delicate steps she crossed the weyrbowl to where a number of candidates were shoveling firestone into sacks. "Excuse me," She murmured, lightly tapping one on the shoulder. "Would you care for a drink?"

She plucked the mugs from her pouch and lifted the pitcher just slightly in offering. A bead of condensation rolled down the side of the jug before dripping off the base and down onto the ground. "There's enough for everyone, if you...if you all want it."

"Two clutches!" The words had erupted out of Lucius, they had done this quite a lot since Rhianth had ended her flight at the weyr and then Fianth had taken flight not even a seven day later. The young man was excited, his blue eyes bright with the hope of impressing, like many of the other candidates. It made the task at hand bearable, especially in his mind. Heck, he wouldn't even have minded if he had been stuck cleaning up the carcasses of herd beasts. Nothing seemed to be able to bring the level of happiness down, especially not the groans of the other candidates around him, telling him to stop chattering, wondering if he had an off switch. Ah, but they were just as happy as he was.

Feeling a light tap on the shoulder, just as he was taking a break from putting firestone into a bag, Lucius turned his head. A girl, another candidate, stood there holding a large pitcher and a couple of mugs. He smiled at her, the grin spreading across his face as he raised his arm to wipe the sweat off his forehead. "Thanks." He reached for a mug, waiting for her to pour some of the cold water into it. "That's pretty nice of you, bringing this out here for us. Names Lucius."

Zelaya ducked in a slight but proper bob to the other candidate, faint smile ghosting across her face. "Well...you've been working terribly hard," was her only real comment as she found a perch for the jug and stack of mugs, setting them out for the gaggle of other candidates as they found moments to take their breaks. There was ample to drink for them all, and she would linger long enough to let them all finish before taking the items back to the kitchens when she left.

"...It seems like hard work, shoveling the stone." She'd come back to focus on Lucius, hands folded over her lap. "I'm Zelaya. And...lucky enough to have been spared that chore. For now." Admitting it made her feel...not quite lazy. She'd done her part and more, as any good Weyrperson would hope to do, but she probably should be trying to tackle these harder chores. What if a dragon chose her, and her arms were too weak to do the work needed? She made a mental note to talk to Gr'del about possibly picking up additional strengthening chores or lessons later. "It has a bit of a smell, doesn't it?" She eventually ventured, clearly not the best at small talk, but also intent on being social with her peers. "The stone, I mean. Not you...oh dear."

Her ears pinked at the almost-insult, her lips pressing into a thin line for a moment as she fought the urge to stare down at her feet.
