                                  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxPERSONALITY
TRAIT: Athletic - In Max's opinion, his best quality happens to be athletic ability. It's his favorite thing about himself. He's young, so he loves to just be outside, but he usually carries a ball of some sort around and tries to play with that. Max loves sports. It's one of the only things that brings him close to other people. He's naturally good at catching things, throwing, running, being an athlete. He also enjoys it immensely.
TRAIT: Selfish - Probably the hardest lesson that Max had to learn growing up was how to share. As an only child, he was used to getting all the attention he wanted from his parents. When he got into hockey, all he wanted to do was score goals. It took him years to understand that he had to pass to be a well-rounded player. Even now, he struggles to share. He still wants everything for himself, but he can recognize situations where sharing would be useful. That doesn't necessarily mean he does though.
TRAIT: Curious - Max wants to know what's going on and why it's happening. When he was younger, he wanted to know why his parents were fighting, why it seemed like it was over him, why he was able to do things other kids couldn't. When he got older, he was curious about hockey, about magic, about his life. If he doesn't already know the answer, you can find him trying to figure it out. One of the many reasons he is good as studying.
TRAIT: Optimistic - Max tries to see the best in people and things, even if he isn't always excited about others. If something isn't working out, he'd like to believe that it will in the future. If someone is being mean to him, he gets hurt. However, he'll continue to be around that person because he's optimistic that they'll change. It definitely makes it easier in his mind, to stay positive, even if he does put himself at risk of being used.
TRAIT: Quiet - Since he hasn't had many people to talk to, he hasn't had a lot to say. As a child he was comfortable talking to his parents, but new people were scary. Even in school, he found it hard to make conversation with others. He doesn't talk loudly. He also isn't the first to say anything when he sees something wrong. He's doesn't speak up and he doesn't speak out about what is wrong.
TRAIT: Independent - Sometimes to a fault, Max is fine being by himself. Growing up he didn't have many friends or a sibling, so he was used to playing by himself. And that was fine. When he got older and went to school, he wasn't a popular guy with a ton of friends, and that didn't bug him. All he really needed was a few close friends who were his teammates to hand out with and it was fine with him.

                                  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxWATCH THE BREAKDOWN

Max's father was playing hockey in Cardiff when he was 19, dreaming of bigger and better leagues. Still, he was a teenage boy who met up with a teenage girl outside a bar in Nottingham. Any dreams of playing anywhere else were dashed but it never seemed to Max like his father regretted the decision. Max remembers bits and pieces from his younger years fondly; going into the City to watch his father play hockey games, sitting in the locker room with all the older guys as he tried on the goalie's pads and played with the few other kids who were around, standing by the glass while his father warmed up and being absolutely taken up with the idea that his dad could be so strong and powerful and yet, so graceful. He also remembered the arguments that his parents would have once Max was old enough to walk. His father begging to put Max in skates and buy him a stick, to get him started early. His mother would shoot back with "that's your dream" and his father would point to how much Max absolutely loved the game. It was true. He did. He still does.

After one particularly bad fight when Max was four, he remembers slamming his bedroom door and being so mad that he couldn't play hockey that he was fuming. And when his parents walked into the room, the floor was ice. That's when his witch of a mother had The Talk with his muggle of a father. The blowback was to be expected and although Max can't remember the details, they were filled in by his parents later. His father staying with a hockey buddy for a few months and only coming around to see Max, Max's mother and him living in their Cardiff home and meeting his grandparents on his mother's side for the first time. They were a bit like Max's parents (Max's grandmother was a muggle, his grandfather a pureblood) and they gave endless advice and love to Max, who they were meeting for the first time. Eventually, Max's father came back. Who could blame a 24-year old for running away when his life got turned upside down.

Max didn't understand much, but he knew that he was special. He was put into hockey the next year with advice from his mother; be careful not to fall in love with the game. But he did. Most of his childhood from age 5-11 was hockey in the morning, school after that, coming home and getting an education in magic from his mother and grandparents, and then more hockey in the evening. He bonded well with his father most days and learned to control his temper on the ice less something magical were to happen. Only once did he make the mistake of letting his emotions get the better of him when he was playing and it resulted in the stick rack being knocked over. Anyway, Max always knew that his hockey career would be temporary, that he would have to go to Hogwarts and learn to control his magic, and that his formative hockey years would be taken away. At first, he didn't mind, but the more he learned to love the game, the more he didn't want it taken away.
