Today was going to suck.

Granted, Lilah was never someone who jumped out of bed and greeted the day with enthusiasm, but today was looking to be particularly terrible. Sharding Rhianth had decided to finish her Flight over the Weyr and gone and woken everyone up in the middle of the night to do what everyone usually did during a goldflight. Most everyone, anyway. Lilah, as usual, had been one of the holdouts, and consequently was nursing a massive headache as she stumbled blearily towards the dining hall in search of breakfast. She imagined she looked exactly how she felt, which was rumpled and sleep-deprived, but she didn't care at all, and wouldn't have even if she'd had the energy to. It was early yet, far earlier than she liked, but getting back to sleep had been impossible. There'd not been much else to do but lie awake and miserable until light finally started to creep over the horizon.

Now that it had, she could only hope that some other sorry souls were as awake as she was rather than tangled up with Faranth knew who, and there was food to be had. She needed klah - so much klah - and sweetrolls to go with it, and maybe then she might feel like a semi-functional human being.

Maybe.

Rhianth's flight was... stressful for Farinalgo. He'd been in the Weyr long enough to become somewhat used to the rampant greenflights, but this was his first goldflight. He was a newer candidate, and the first and only clutch he'd stood for was at Western, where the flight had already taken place weeks before he arrived. So when Rhianth went up, Farin nearly lost control. It scared him enough that he spent half the night hiding in a cold bath.

Yes. A bath. That's how upset he was.

He'd washed and scrubbed enough to make his cleanliness-obsessed brother proud, keeping himself focused on something other than the goings-on in the air. So when he entered the dining hall the morning after, he looked relatively fresh compared to some of the other holdouts. There was a short brown-haired woman who seemed to be heading in the same direction--towards life-giving klah--and with his longer strides, he naturally caught up and fell into step with her, noting her run-down appearance. He was tired and still fighting recurring pangs of anxiety, but his nature was strong. There was a soft smirk on his face as he quipped, "Such a lovely night, wasn't it?"

Rumpled and groggy as she was, Lilah looked even less approachable than usual, of that she was absolutely certain, and so she was rather surprised when someone actually did approach: someone much too tall and entirely too awake-seeming for the hour and after the events of the previous night. Her initial response was little more than a grunt as she dragged a heavy gaze over the stranger. The temptation to leave it at that was strong, and maybe later he'd wish she had.

She wagered that most people ultimately regretted choosing to speak with her. Not that that thought was ever enough to temper her. "Not really," she answered, voice rough with lack of sleep. "********' Rhianth."

What was even the point, really? Flying right over the Weyr like that and waking them all up for no reason! She had her brown, she didn't need to go riling everyone up like that! Ugh. Sharding golds.

Her gruff summary prompted a chuckle from Farin. It was formed from something halfway between actual delight and sleep-deprived giddiness. “She did make quite the entrance. Perhaps next time she’ll make it during daylight hours.”

The little hammocks of darkness under his eyes got a little deeper for a moment as he lost focus and zoned out into some other world. The Secret World of Dragon Scholar Farin, where everything interesting was mulled over and chewed on, speculation running rampant. Currently, a small flash of gold was zipping across the sky, surrounded by swirls of masculine metallic shades mirroring her trajectory in enthusiastic, breathtaking movements.

“I can’t say I particularly enjoyed the side effects of the event, but I’d love to have been able to watch. I’ve never seen a gold rise before. Is it as spectacular as they say?”

"She'd better," the woman grumbled, as though a Queen would care that her midnight Flight had annoyed a lowly bluerider.

"Not much to see," Lilah said with a shrug, utterly unimpressed with what she'd seen of Flights, gold or otherwise. Maybe it was different for candidates, since it meant there'd be a Hatching soon, but even when she'd been a candidate, she'd found them bothersome. "They're usually outta sight pretty soon. Just lots of dragons, lots of noise, some fights."
