So what is this drill all about?
K’ienn is a firm believer that the human half of a dragonrider pair is also in need of serious fitness training in order to be at their best to fight Thread. Therefore, this will be a ground-based drill that will work on the Trespassers’ physical fitness, attention to detail, and willingness to face challenges.

Course information
The course the Trespassers will follow is laid out over a forested, mountainous area within the jurisdiction of High Reaches Weyr. There are stretches with a glut of trees and some wide-open areas, as well as some rivers cutting through at various points. It is mainly to be run on foot, but there are a few obstacles that will need the help of a dragon to conquer. Each step of the course is marked clearly by blue flags and (ICly) should take about four hours to complete for a person of average fitness.

What should the dragons be doing during this drill?
Each wingrider’s dragon is expected to follow their rider from the air. They may encourage their rider but may not interfere in any way except in the dragon-based obstacles that are marked with flags bearing an “X”.

-------------------------------------------

NPC riders: This is still a work in progress as far as the official shop system, but at this time you may create ONE semi-permanent Trespasser NPC for use in games if you do not already have a Trespasser! Please be aware that any scores/points/rewards earned by this NPC will be transferred to the first "real" Trespassers rider that you obtain, and the NPC will be "erased" unless you obtain them in another way. Their score is still transferred to the first "real" rider, regardless of whether you later make your NPC into an official character.

The game itself is very similar to the way dragon flights are played! The riders with the top three final scores will receive merit points from Wingleader K'ienn. (To be awarded when the shop point system is officially set up!)

First round will be rolled 9/1/18 at 7:00 PM EST.

Please post your rider's stats and current score along with each post for easy reference!

Instructions on how to play are under the spoiler!

Rider Stats

In this game, your rider will be the one who needs stats!

Please distribute 50 points in the below stats based on your rider’s history and personality.

Rider stats
Dexterity
Speed
Stamina
Strength
Wits
Bravery

Bonuses
These apply only if your rider has the requirements mentioned in their approved profile!

You may choose ONE of the following bonuses:

+2 dexterity - Rider has trained in a craft that requires fine detailing, such as weaving, woodworking, or playing an instrument at Apprentice level. Thievery and similar backgrounds do apply.

+4 dexterity - Rider has trained in a craft that requires fine detailing, such as weaving, woodworking, or playing an instrument at Journeyman or Master level. Thievery and similar backgrounds do apply.

+2 strength - Rider has trained in a craft that requires muscle, such as mining and smithing, at Apprentice level. Backgrounds of manual labor and similar work do apply.

+4 strength - Rider has trained in a craft that requires muscle, such as mining and smithing, at Journeyman or Master level. Backgrounds of manual labor and similar work do apply.

+1 speed, +2 dexterity – Rider has trained in a fighting skill or dance at Apprentice level, OR rider has been a dragonrider for 1 to 4 turns. You cannot double this bonus if both apply to your character. Backgrounds of mercenaries, raiders and similar do apply.

+2 speed, +3 dexterity – Rider has trained in a fighting skill or dance at Journeyman or Master level, OR rider has been a dragonrider for 5 or more turns. You cannot double this bonus if both apply to your character. Backgrounds of mercenaries, raiders and similar do apply.

+2 wits - Rider has trained in a craft that requires smarts or smooth talking, such as healing, starcraft, cooking, or diplomacy, at Apprentice level. Backgrounds involving serious dealmaking or other similar activities do apply.

+4 wits - Rider has trained in a craft that requires smarts or smooth talking, such as healing, starcraft, cooking, or diplomacy, at Journeyman or Master level. Backgrounds involving serious dealmaking or other similar activities do apply.

Additionally, you may add a freebie bonus of +3 to distribute among the stats of your choosing, all you need to do is give a reason why it makes sense for your character.

How to Play

For those familiar with green/gold flight mechanics, this is pretty much the same thing. At the start of each round, Teiha will post an obstacle and its description, and explain what stats are considered in order to pass the obstacle, for example speed and strength. A random number roll based on K'ienn's stats will be included in the post to represent the obstacle's difficulty. Say that roll comes out as 10. Now add your rider’s speed and strength stats together – say that equals 15. In your post for that round, you would roll a random number between 1 and 15. If the number you roll is higher than the obstacle’s score of 10, your rider successfully conquered that obstacle. If your roll is lower than the obstacle’s score of 10, your rider fumbled that obstacle.

Saving yourself from a low roll
If you roll a terribly low number on a ground obstacle, you have the option of allowing your rider’s dragon to assist for an automatic +5 points. But BEWARE, as dragon interference is prohibited ICly, each time you use this option, a roll will be done by Teiha at the end of the round to determine a penalty between -1 to -8 points. This means you may gain extra points, but also potentially can lose points overall in the end.

Roleplay!
Due to the fairly high number of rounds planned (approximately 10) at a fairly quick rate, roleplay is not required. However! You can get up to +3 bonus points per round if you choose to write an RP post, at +1 point per 50 words. (50 words is about equal to 2-3 sentences.)

Random bonuses or penalties may be given based on your rider’s actions throughout the game. These will be noted in K’ienn’s responses.

Final Scoring
As this is an untested game, I’m going to wait a few rounds to see how the scores are turning out before deciding what score determines a great drill and what determines a less-productive drill.

Ah, the fresh air at High Reaches was cool and crisp that morning, a welcome break from the hot weather they’d been having. Knowing the cooler day was coming, Wingleader K’ienn had something special planned for the Trespassers. There was a spring in his step as he crossed his ledge and vaulted onto Yisketh’s bent neck. Oh, yes. Some of his riders had known him long enough to expect this sort of thing, but others would be taken by surprise at this unusual exercise. They flew out to the bowl and landed to await the rest of the group, nodding and calling out good mornings to any early arrivals who’d beaten them there.

Le’x had never been a light sleeper. Even with a dragon in his head, prodding him to get up, he still had difficulty opening his eyes and keeping them open first thing in the morning. These days, however, Kratoth was a very large, very strong brown, and he did not let his rider oversleep. He easily nudged his rider out of bed and into a standing position and propped him up with his nose, a large nostril on either side of the boy’s head, just behind his ears. He then snorted so forcefully that Le’x’s hair blew wildly, as if in a strong wind. Le’x startled awake enough to stand up one his own, but he was still clearly in a daze, his eyes half open and focused on nothing.

Kratoth reached out and gingerly curled his claws around a bundle of clothes that had been folded and laid over the top of his rider’s chest of drawers. With a practiced touch, he scooped them up without tearing anything, transferred the bundle to his mouth, and pressed it to Le’x’s chest. The boy’s arms closed around the bundle, and in a sort of trained reflex, he began to get dressed while still half asleep.

A few minutes later, Le’x was awake enough to remember that a drill was scheduled that morning, and that was enough to snap him out of the daze. He got to work putting on his leathers and then Kratoth’s straps, making sure everything was in order. He took only another moment to scarf a handful of dried fruit and swallow a splash of water before sprinting out to his dragon and flying down to the weyrbowl where his Wingleader was waiting.

With a drill planned for this morning, D'cimus was up before even Amroth. The blue did enjoy to relax and take his time waking up, always telling his rider that the extra sleep was considered beauty sleep. D'cimus was currently ignoring Amroth's half hearted complaints about having to get up so early.

These complaints finally stopped as they took to the air and landed in the meeting spot. Amroth let out a rumble of a greeting towards both Yisketh and Kratoth as D'cimus slipped out of his straps. The large man turned his head to look around, nodding to Le'x before doing the same to K'ienn.

Up! And do clean your face! You still have smudges all over it, love!

There was no need for an internal clock when dear, lovely Phaedrath was willing to nudge her rider from bed. The woman had been shoulder deep in this-or-that the evening before, and while she'd at least had the sense to wash her hands and throw off her dirty clothing (though that really described most of her state of being), her face still showed obvious signs where she'd smeared her hand across a cheek here or there.

But it was an agreement with her lifemate that Alosha would at least get to any wing drills looking presentable and nice. A clean jerkin and pants, her hair properly combed and even pulled back out of her face, and lo - she looked almost like something someone would actually want to look at. At least, according to Phaedrath. Still, the greenrider had to do a twirl and allow for some scrutiny from her lifemate before she was allowed to climb into (meticulously kept) riding straps and down into the bowl it was.

Alosha was never the first to arrive to such meetings, but perhaps that was fine. Phaedrath so liked to arrive fashionably to at least leave some impression on any boy she found any semblance of pretty. And oh, did she consider Yisketh ever so handsome. So, while greetings were to be had all around - to Amroth, to ever new faced Kratoth, and any others who had arrived...it would be Yisketh who received absolutely ravishing greetings for the morning as she touched down.

Alosha simply raised her arm in greeting, looking very alert and tidy. Though for how long that would hold out would be seen.

Ahlalei sighed as she stepped off of Kalikath. Do we really have to do this again? Wasn’t last time disastrous enough for any but the most malicious of hearts? Kalikath snorted into her tightly braided crown of hair. I think the disaster of last time is why you have to do it again. Pushing his head away from her’s she teased are you saying our wingleader’s heart is the most malicious? Weighty silence was all she got in return.

Ahlalei sighed again eyeing some of the more recent riders to join the wing. At least it is entertaining on some level.

It had been simply months and months since that dreadful afternoon when the greenrider pair had nearly tasted death as they fell from the sky, eaten by Thread all the way until they were caught and deposited in the water. Or rather Tarmath had been. Months passed since that time and once her arm had healed, once Tarmath's webbing of full body Threadscore scars had healed, her tattered wings strong enough once more to fly, they'd been waking up even earlier and training and training. It had taken some time for them to overcome the loss of the large green's right eye and sometimes flying was risky even now, as over thirty turns of doing something one way made it hard to adapt, but adapt they had.

Hearing K'ienn's training plan for the day the pair had gotten up even earlier than before and trained all that morning so that they were waiting patiently when the rest of their wing arrived. The older woman took a deep breath as more and more of her wingmates, those she hadn't gotten the chance to fly with in all these months, began to arrive, her back tensing as she watched them through sad eyes. Her head dipped respectfully to her Wingleader and she smiled at each new rider and dragon that appeared, but even her own green could tell she was nervous despite knowing that they had been working hard.

Still, the green remained silent, her lone eye still a light gray color that swirled like a storm.

With Chezuri settled for day care, K’vos had eyed the gathering of her wing members as Slistalth brought them closer. Sleep evaded them like a jittery firelizard still, and raising a young child alongside turns of being a wingrider made it easier and easier to rise well before first light. Yet drills and exercises made it easier to get out of her weyr, as Chezuri and Slistalth helped her to rouse out of bed. Yet whatever trepidation is quashed as she slips from her straps as her dragon landed. While she had been in the wing for some turns, what she expected didn’t quite help the nerves whenever such an outing sprang up.

Yet she scrubs a hand against Slistalth’s greyed neck, adjusting her sun goggles some as she calls out her own ’Good morning’s to her fellow wingriders with a gentle nod of greeting--especially to the newest members to join them. They were a team, after all. Best she welcome everyone warmly, even if she’d rather go curl back up under a fur.

The wind in the Bowl made V'gar's braids sway as they sat on the edge of their weyrledge smoking a cigarette in the slowly rising morning light. Today was a drill, one that they hadn't done before, though it seemed as though it might be a bit familiar in a way? It was simply a ground drill, they'd done tons of those before during weyrling training and that hadn't been all that long ago. Slowly they pulled another drag of their cigarette and glanced over at the large green laying behind them, Ngawanth's eyes were a peaceful blue as she watched the activity happening below them, some of it from their own wing, but there was a quiet insistence for movement that was niggling in the back of V'gar's brain that could come from only one source.

"Oh fine, let's get up and get going then. Usually I'm not the one that stalls, eh? Let's go see what the wingleader has in store for us today." V'gar offered, their eyes flashed mischievously as they swung up into the straps on Ngawanth's back with ease and tightened down in. Instantly they were up in the air, or rather gliding down from the ledge as the green had simply spread her wings and fallen off the weyrledge like she always did. It took no time at all for them to coast down and land in an empty spot, unsure of whether they should clamber down from their dragon's back or simply stay in place.

This drill was going to be different and neither of the pair was certain if it was going to happen in the bowl or where it would be.

K'ienn and bronze Yisketh

When their Wing was assembled, K’ienn and Yisketh took to the air. The bronze sent out the order to follow, giving precise coordinates to jump Between. Then the pair winked out of view.

Upon re-entry at the new location, Wingriders would find themselves in a vast mountain area in the midst of High Reaches territory, and would land nearby their Wingleader on a wide, rocky ridge. Blue flags marked a clear trail across the ridge and off into the distance.

Trespassers!” K’ienn called out. “Today, it is the human element of your pair who will be doing the work. There have been far too many injuries while tossing stone or twisting in the air during recent falls, and we will be making every attempt to avoid that from now on. You will follow the trail I have marked, on foot except for the obstacles marked with ‘X’. These obstacles will require your dragon’s assistance. At all other times, the dragons are to be in the sky with Yisketh and me, keeping a lookout for felines, rock falls, or other dangers.”

Without further ado, he waved for the riders to begin running.

Following after their Wingleader, Alosha and Phaedrath blinked away after them after a moment, allowing enough time for any others to have left the precise location given, in case of any accidental overlap.

The green swept quickly away from where she betweened in from to take a good look at the area, noting landmarks to her rider, who was peering over her dragon's other shoulder. It looks no less trouble than you are usually getting into, Phaedrath lamented, just imagining how dirty her rider would get. The woman was a magnet for it all. Still, she found the neatest looking place she could to settle down into while she and Alosha listened to K'ienn's instructions intently.

Though for very different reasons, they were one pair who certainly weren't checked out in this instance!

I could have worn my dirty tunic from last night and not dirtied up a perfectly clean set of clothing.... Alosha seemed to laugh at the irony that her lifemate was so saddened by as she climbed from her riding straps and pat the green on the side. "Keep a close eye on our Wingleader for me, hmm?" she suggested, though it was more an offering of a silver lining. After all, Phaedrath now got to spend some time with a handsome bronze without her rider. Wouldn't that be delightful?

Well, Phaedrath would at least have plenty of nice things to say to pad his ego with.

But when it came to running, Alosha at least had two working feet. Though she did manage to fumble right out the gate and - Phaedrath nearly sighed herself. Yes, she was just going to mess up those nice clean pants already! Of course she would!

After arriving at the coordinates and listening attentively, Ahlalei dropped down to the ground mentally grumbling. The idiot had to go and make an obstacle course. He better have thought this through… She respected K’ienn as a Wingleader and usually trusted that the man knew what he was doing…in that arena at least. But she didn’t really like the man as a person. How many of us will come back covered in mud, I wonder? A rumbling laugh rose out of Kalikath’s throat as he rose into the sky. All of you.

Ahlalei set out off through the rocky field quickly. She new this was an endurance run and tried to set a pace that she could sustain… though without knowing how long this was…She made it to the other side without even turning her foot slightly.

Years of flying in Tresspassers had taught the older greenrider to completely trust what her wingleader wanted and had to say, what his plans were and what the whole wing needed. She was one of the most disgraceful ones that he had right now, given the scars covering her dragon and herself from the last time they'd been able to fly. That last time. Aly would remember the pain forever.

Sliding down off of Tarmath and watching the green fly back to the sky once more, ungainly and awkward given how she had to twist her head to and fro to see on the side she was blind, the woman squared her shoulders and waited with the rest of her fellow wingmates. At the bellow she took off, prepared to do as best she could, even if she faltered a bit at the beginning. Even if she stumbled and nearly pitched over, Alythrae caught herself and rolled h er shoulders once more as she started at a more relaxed pace. She didn't have to race her wingmates, they were all working to get to the same end, but she definitely wanted to get there unharmed.

Ngawanth's humor was in their head as she dropped them off and took off once more, a green streak into the sky, all long and slim as she beat her wings back into the air. Maybe it was that she had been such a part of them for so long, but V'gar felt slightly unnerved being all alone on the ground with her watching so far above. Dark eyes watched her for a moment, barely listening to what their wingleader said, not really ignoring the man so much as trying to find a way to swallow the odd feeling of being so thoroughly alone.

You're not alone, now go and catch up to them! came Ngawanth's voice in their head. Blinking and looking back down around themself, V'gar noticed that everyone had started but them, had all begun to run. Well... failed task one already.

If it was one thing that they were good at at least it was anything physical. Instantly they took off at a quick pace, running to catch up to them all on solid strides.

K’vos had scrambled back into her straps as K’ienn had, rubbing his neck affectionately as he launched up into the air. They followed after, and K’vos had to marvel at just how lovely the surrounding area was. Training or no, Pern did have it’s wonders to see. Her wingleader’s voice made her head snap up a bit, listening to his instructions as she observed the blue flags through the tinted lenses.

Doesn’t seem too bad. Slistalth commented, a bit off hand as he turned, looking up at his rider with a duller blue eye. Yet the slight worried tone wasn’t hard to miss. Watch your footing. I’ll always be close by if you need me..

Of course. And you watch yourself up there. I’ll be done before you know it. K’vos smiled, a slight one as she dismounted once more before her blue launched into the air.

Okay. On foot. She could do this--turns of working on her strength and fitness would help, as it improved with each course K’ienn would have them go through. The bluerider took off running, stumbling slightly at first but able to keep her footing steady.
