Tulio's lantern cut through the thick fog that surrounded his home, but it only ever helped him see a few feet ahead of him whenever he went out on his gathering duties. He moved slowly, keeping his eyes close to the ground on the bushes, trees, and other nearby foliage. After a few very focused hours of gathering whatever berries and mushrooms Tulio could find, he began to make his way back to the village.

His lantern shown a bright white, but Tulio's glowing green eyes were almost more helpful in navigating through the fog. He could see the Remembrance Tree looming high before him, marking only a few more minutes walk to the village proper. The tree was always beautifully lit with the lanterns of those in the tribe who had passed. Out of habit, Tulio's paws took him to the base of the large tree, where he set down his lantern for a moment and closed his eyes to pray.

User ImageHarper had been lost for a while now but that was inconsequential to the mystery before her. There were these strange lanterns that she had observed for half a day and they didn’t go out. She wasn’t sure what was in them. Was it fireflies or some sort of glowing moss bits? She didn’t know. She was turning over a lantern between her paws. The glow was fairly consistent but if it was moss then it should have to absorb light or have nutrients or something feeding it. She didn’t see a way to open the lantern at all. It slipped from her grasp and tumbled down bumping into other lanterns as it rolled from the tree.

She tried to snag it and had to move from where she had been sitting. As she rounded the tree to get the lantern she saw another fox looking at her. He was dark in coloration and blended with the mist around the area. There was a glowing lantern near him that she was sure wasn’t there before.

Some sort of commotion distracted Tulio from his prayer, and he opened his eyes just in time to see a lantern rolling past him from the other side of the tree. Only moments later, a vixen appeared coming after it. Just before the lantern moved out of reach, Tulio swept out his tail to gently prevent it from rolling any futher. He smiled at the vixen; seeing unfamiliar faces in Luminarium was not uncommon, and judging by the face that she was chasing after a lantern, Tulio took her to be a new recruit. "Hello," he said, "and welcome to the Luminarium tribe." He gestured to the lantern before continuing. "I hear a lot of new recruits have trouble getting used to keeping the lanterns with them. Don't worry, you'll get used to it in time." Tulio's own bright white lantern was comfortably nestled on the ground between his two front paws.

Luminarium tribe? New recruit? She glanced at the white light at his feet. So these things were part of a tribe? Well that could be troublesome. If this was a tribe item then there was a chance that anyone not part of the tribe could be in a large amount of trouble for handling one. Still she was quite inexperienced in lying having never had to do so before in her life. Rather than try and weasel through the situation and end up in greater trouble later she decided on simply stating the truth. “Yes it is rather awkward to handle and I still can’t really figure out why they glow.” She gestured to the many lanterns by the tree as she moved toward the fallen lantern. She lifted it using her mouth sighing mentally and knowing she was going to have to run for it. Perhaps she could sneak back latter? That option was unlikely as she didn’t even know where she was at now. Mulling her options she kept an eye on the male while she set the lantern down. “Still I think your encouragement is a waste as I’m not a recruit just lost.” Every muscle in her body was ready to run as soon as the male took a step toward her. She was a hunter so she could run but she was not a fighter. She also didn’t think she could run with the awkward lantern would be thief. That would have slowed her and not been the logical choice.
