- ■ Vince had very little trouble with this course. It helped a lot that, unlike most of his classes at Hogwarts, he could use the internet to study for it during the holidays. That said, it wasn't something he focused too heavily on, so he didn't perform as well on the exam as he could have if he'd applied himself a little more.
xxxCHARMS ~ EExxx
- ■ Wandwork wasn't exactly Vince's strong suit, to be honest. He did well enough, but with a few exceptions, his spells tend to be a little lackluster. He didn't have any real trouble with the course or with the exam, but his performance left a little to be desired in the way of skill level.
xxxDEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS ~ Axxx
- ■ Vince isn't the best under pressure; he tends to get stressed out and let his emotions take over. While this didn't affect his other wandwork courses, it was certainly a factor with this one, which by definition was supposed to prepare students for a more high-stress situation. He managed alright in class, but when the exam came along he floundered a little bit, and as such his grade suffered.
xxxHERBOLOGY ~ Axxx
- ■ Vince isn't exactly the most nurturing of people. There's no malice to it (at least not with the plants, anyway), but he's just not very good at taking care of anything but himself, and perhaps his little sister. He struggled a lot with this course, and it showed on his NEWT.
xxxHISTORY OF MAGIC ~ Oxxx
- ■ History was Vince's favorite subject, at Hogwarts at least. The curriculum lacked any of the technology or science focused courses he excelled at in muggle schooling, so he found himself delving into history. He liked the course, and the professor, and had no trouble keeping everything straight. So, when it came time to take his exams, he had absolutely no trouble with this one.
xxxPOTIONS ~ EExxx
- ■ Potions, Vince had reasoned early on, was quite like chemistry. The ingredients had specific properties, like the elements, and combining them in certain ways caused certain effects. Of course, chemistry always seemed more straight-forward, but the principle was the same, so he did well enough. It was a struggle, sometimes, to keep things straight, but he managed well enough, and did quite well on his exam.
xxxTRANSFIGURATION ~ Oxxx
- ■ Vince's success in this course was more a matter of stubbornness than anything else. He wasn't good at wandwork but he was quite good at math. Being presented with an equation that was supposed to represent the magic being done made him dig in his heels, determined to do well in at least one of his magical courses. His success was, at times, rather hit and miss, but when it came time for his NEWTs he forced himself to practice until his attempts were as close to perfect as he could manage.

xxxALCHEMY ~ Axxx
- ■ Vince was alright at this course, but it was never going to be anything he excelled at. Half wandwork, and half the parts of potions he struggled with, he had a lot of trouble working out how things worked. How, he figured, was the question you had to answer to understand things. But with magic, how seemed more like an impossible question, a distraction, and he didn't do well with distractions. His performance on the exam was passable, but nothing spectacular.
xxxARITHMANCY ~ Oxxx
- ■ Numbers were something Vince understood. The magical approach to numbers took some getting used to, but at the end of the day it was something he could wrap his head around. He took a little while to catch up in terms of how things worked, but once he had that sorted, he excelled in this course. The exam was no trouble for him.
xxxCURSEBREAKING ~ Axxx
- ■ Again, like Defense, this was a course where Vince suffered from poor performance under pressure. He couldn't help but think about all the terrible things that could happen should he screw up, which of course led to more than a few screw ups. He counted himself quite fortunate that he wasn't looking to get into any jobs with cursebreaking as a per-requisite, because he was sure to do quite poorly if that were the case. As it is, he passed the exam with reasonably good marks, but nothing that would gain him any praise.
xxxHEALING ~ EExxx
- ■ Vince's stress in this area, and his lack of nurturing capabilities, was at war with his desire to perform well at what he considered to be an extremely important branch of magic. He applied himself here more so than almost any other course, determined to do well and to develop useful skills. He was rewarded for his efforts with an almost surprisingly high score.
xxxSTUDY OF ANCIENT RUNES ~ Oxxx
- ■ Like History and Arithmancy, Vince had no trouble here. Having a background with a computer science brother and being interested in languages himself, it was easy enough to wire his brain to recall the information and to recognize the new alphabets. He's quite handy at translation, actually, and had no trouble on this exam.
xxxWIZARD LAW ~ EExxx
- ■ Vince's struggle with this course was less an issue of not being able to remember the information, and more having trouble applying it. Specifically, applying the information regarding laws that he thought made no sense whatsoever. In any situation where he thought something was, well, dumb, he tended to have trouble working with it. Laws that seemed outdated or nonsensical were a struggle to take seriously, and his performance suffered a bit as a result.
Petitioned for higher than average grades on opt-out. Justified because Vince is a neeeeeeeeeeeerd. Link to OWL exams for reference.
