There was a tree growing near the lake. Well, there were several trees growing near the lake, but this one was different. It'd sprouted up in a bare patch of soil, probably within the last turn or two, and now was twisting skywards as a spry, lithe sapling. It'd managed to escape their notice among the thicker coniferous trees, but on a recent trip to help bathe a dragon, they'd spotted it. And that, of course, set their plans for her next rest day as firmly as if they'd been cast in stone.

Now Zelaya stood from where they'd been squatted near the roots, letting the loamy soil drop between their fingers around them. A skybroom! Here! It was barely as tall as they were at this point...and really, with the deep winters here, and the preexisting crush of the mature conifers...it probably would not last. That it'd made it through two turns, perhaps, already, was a wonder. Their hands traced up the slim trunk to the strangely flat top of thick branches—the signature look of a skybroom indeed, just in miniature!—and they could not hide their quiet words of wonder and awe.

Who had ever seen a skybroom so small? Even the wood itself was a rarity, unnaturally dense and hard to acquire. Why had this one sprouted here? How long would it last...and if it was not felled, what might the ever expanding roots cause to happen? They glanced back towards the lake, imagining in a hundred turns the water all drained away as the towering behemoth of a plant churned the earth here to become unrecognizable. It was awe-inspiring indeed, the power of a tree.

What Neiveth wanted, Neiveth got. She'd been a particular creature lately, for whatever itch that had gotten under her hide, and G'lin had simply decided he was going to go along with it. It had been one of the qualities of the boy that had made him so appealing to the green to begin with, after all. That had meant a complete bath every other week, since the last she'd risen. You liked him that much, hmm? G'lin teased adoringly while his firelizard curled around his neck, tittering with residual humor shared across their bond. Neiveth.....was on the fence about the little firelizard still, and it was moments like this that leaned her farther into the category of dislike. Elzebuth is a fine dragon, thank you. But this is not for him. Oh no, Neiveth reminded firmly, setting their destination in mind and then snaping away.

Betweening would never sit completely right with G'lin, if mostly for the cold. Mmm. For your favorite cuddle buddy, then? he suggested, offering the image of a certain dark green to his lifemate if only to clarify who he was speaking of. Not that Neiveth enjoyed the company of any other green the same way. He was certain if Neiveth just piled both Thanoth and Elzebuth onto her ledge, she would be the happiest green in the Weyr. Of course, she'd have never kept only them. Neiveth offered dismissal as she swooped down over the lake, taking it in silently. Though only in that she didn't kreel and bugle and announce herself like so many others would have. It still was far from being completely silent, however. I'd have had you invite them both, she tossed V'tre into the shared mental image, If it was about that. I just want to be clean, and from her tone, that was final.

G'lin doubted that, but her demands would get to be more and more as the days passed. It was the beginning of her little pokes and prods and if he hadn't loved her so much, he wouldn't have indulged her so.

Still, Neiveth had enough of her rider trying to needle at feelings that weren't as dramatic as he was pretending they were, and as G'lin began to unsecure his straps, she did a gentle roll to drop him into the water. Barely a few feet, but enough to send Bow flapping off with a honk of displeasure, and the young man to briefly sputter before sinking. It was very funny, at least, and she thought the smartest and most lovely of greens would appreciate the joke. So she shared it with her.

As for G'lin, he went wading up onto the shore of the lake, now completely soaked and full of curses he never would have spoken in polite company....
