Talis wound her way to the infirmary, carrying a plate full of an assortment of all sorts of things, because toss her between if she knew what Lauthisen liked.  She had included one of the glittered white cupcakes, simply because she found it amusing, but the rest was a bit of this and a bit of that.  Shaffit, he might very well not be hungry at all, on account of, you know, being mauled.  But she felt somehow responsible for that, as if her stepping away had had an impact on what had followed.  She knew, logically, that it hadn't, but the feeling remained regardless.  Maybe, if she hadn't Impressed when she had, she'd have been the one mauled instead, which would have been...preferable?

If I had known what was about to happen... The statement hung heavy and unfinished as Holleth considered just what he would actually have done, if he had known.  He preferred that His remained whole and unharmed, of course, but knew full well how little consideration she had for her own wellbeing when weighed against that of others, and how it was one of many qualities of hers that he adored.  If it would have made her happier, if that was even the word for it...ah, but perhaps if he'd known, he could have kept the boy from harm.  There were so many things about the Hatching that could have gone differently, should have gone differently, and he and His found that similarly irritating.

It was long over by now, and though much of the indignation remained, those feelings were somewhat smoothed over by the fact that, while most of the Westerners had been sent away, no one had been so merciless as to toss the badly-injured candidate out straightaway.  He'd have a reprieve until he was well enough, at least, whenever that was.

Talis felt a ridiculous flitter of irritation, because not only had he gone and gotten himself mauled, he hadn't Impressed, which was quite a silly thing to be irritated by, and led to still more annoyance.  She couldn't say when or why Lauthisen had moved from Hatching acquaintance to acceptable company to company she actually liked, but it was rather inconvenient.  And, again, silly, given everything.  But here she was, fleeing the Feast for the infirmary, not that she would have been keen on lingering at the celebration regardless.  She had little use for parties in the first place, and with roughly five dozen other weyrlings about, plus everyone else, plus the tension, plus Fela, she was all too happy to be away.

But it was still the simmering irritation that came through in her voice as she set the plate unceremoniously and with a touch more force than necessary on a sidetable: not enough to break it, of course, or spill anything, but it made a good solid noise.  If he hadn't been quite awake, well. "The way Fianth went on, I half thought they'd have your a** on a dragon by now."

At her side, Holleth was quiet, his eyes holding a still blue.

This was not how he'd planned to be spending the Hatching Feast.

His mind still felt strangely warm and fuzzy--a side effect of the fellis juice, he'd been administered, but Lauthisen was well aware of the damage that had been inflicted to his right shoulder. The memory of the pain, fogged as it currently was, still made him grimace and shift upon the cot. Would he lose the arm, he wondered? Though Healers had come and gone, no one had told him much--and he hadn't bothered to ask. A sluggish glance told him it was still attached.... and if things became worse in the future, then he would deal with it as it came.

He wasn't able to reflect on things as well as he would like in his current state, and fell in and out of a doze as he swam through the heady sensations inflicted by the fellis. Voices drifted by, usually little more than hushed murmurs of sound... until one eventually pierced the fog more directly than than the rest. Lauthisen struggled to open his eyes, groggily searching for the source--and immediately tried to will himself to focus when he saw her. Her and the dark, regal little blue at her side.

His lips curled into something of a grin, and he started to give an unconscious shrug before pain that not enough fellis could mask stabbed through him. He sucked in a low hiss of air between his teeth, eyes squeezing shut. "Maybe she felt bad for the idiot who couldn't get out of a hatchling's way," He eventually replied, forcing his eyes back open. "At least one of us got lucky."

There was no trace of resentment in his tone, for he'd meant what he said. Talis clearly had been the right person for the blue, and he for her. What was there to resent about that? Other than the fact that she'd remain here, while he would go back to Western.

But where had that thought come from, anyway?

Talis noted the hiss of pain, the eyes squeezed shut, but gave no indication that she had.  Personally, she hated to be fussed over - one of the reasons Fela, for all her well-meaning, had a tendency to get under her skin - and so she glossed over it and gave his injured shoulder no more than a cursory glance.  It might have come off as cold to some, but to her mind, it was courtesy, and Lauthisen didn't strike her as the type to want coddling, besides.  He was in rough shape, and she empathized, but she had no doubt he was being properly tended to by the Healers.

"Yeah, well, you didn't have to go and make up for it by getting unlucky," she replied. "You did say it, though.  'There's our blue.'" A huff of amusement under her breath, and she glanced over at Holleth, who balanced ever so delicately back on his haunched and tail to have a better look at the boy.

Did he? he asked quizzically, with a slow blink.

Mm.  With so many of the big boys hatching first, we wondered what was taking you blues so long.

Ah.  Some of my siblings and cousins are not so patient, I suppose. Or of good temper, as evidenced by the candidate he was peering at.  Or his poor, sweet sister.

"Guess we ought to watch what we say, it's got a way of happening," she mused.  Not that she believed in that sort of thing, but.  Well.  It was funny, in a very dark way.  "I'll take your predictions over mine, though.  Mine sucked."
