Humming a wordless tune, Cancion de Celio wandered along the shady wooded path, enjoying the peace solitude brought. She loved her sisters and family, but they could be... a lot. Sometimes, all she wanted was silence, and to enjoy her own company. Alone time to escape, and to reflect on her life. It was a good life, filled with love, laughter and warmth, but it also lacked in some ways as well. A love, children... something that seemed to elude her entire family. Well, the children part they were quite proficient in. It was the love and long-lasting relationships that they weren't so good with. Her elder sister was an exception to that, as she had an...arrangement with two stallions that bore her 3 children. Their unconventional relationship was a blessing her sister had so desperately needed, even if she didn't realize it at the time. The fair coated mare smiled, shaking out her mane. Leave it to her family.

Listening to the wind pass gently through the towering oaks, Chaci inspected the tree line. She was certain that the type of sage she was looking for grew somewhere near by. All she needed was a few branches, and she could head for home. As she moved deeper into the forest, the thicker the foliage became, and the darker it got. Beaming, the mare pushed forward, trotting deeper into the darkness. She loved to explore, and this seemed like as good a time as any to get another adventure in.

Veluri was thinking about cursing the universe, and whatever entity that had it out for him. He would totally do it, too, if he could get his mind to form something coherent. Something other than 'well, crap, this is how I die'.

Half an hour earlier~
Vel stood at the edge of a dark copse of trees, nerves making him dance back and forth. He really needed to get over this... fear of the dark. Or more aptly put, things that tended to lurk in the dark areas of the world. Things with skulls for heads and glowing eyes. Or eyes in all the wrong places. Or completely normal looking, but a dark streak in their soul which was worse than the things that just looked strange.

Vel was really, really, really not comfortable with monsters and nightmares, whatever form they took. But with the amount of teasing he had suffered lately, mostly by his well-meaning family, had pushed him to want to try and get over this. Not every dark group of trees has something terrible lurking within it. He just... needed to wander into some dark places to prove that. To himself. So, it was high noon, sun burning bright and hot on his back. the brightest time of day. So he could do this. He could do this. He could do this.

And flash back to now~
He had tried to back away very slowly from the eyes that seemed to float in the darkness, nothing of the other visible except the glowing red color. They were moving forward, too low to the ground to be a regular Soquili, unless they were eyes on some other part of the Soquili's body. There were hints of a shape, maybe some part of the other's coat was lighter, making it stand out a little more from the black. A hint of bones and white trailing color.

He tried to take a step back, maybe more than a step, maybe a few running ones until he was back out in the sunlight and maybe, maybe whatever it was that was creeping closer wouldn't be inclined to follow. Or, if it was, it would be less scary in the sunlight. Or he would be able to run away really fast. Any or all of those would be good. So much for sneaking into a dark forest and not running into something that wished him harm.

He really did try, but his hoof hit up against something softer than a tree that let out a truly terrifying hiss. Vel jumped near a foot in the air, spinning around wildly to try and see what was behind him. Again, only darkness met his eyes and a sharp white smile down near his feet.

It was enough for him to identify the creature as a gator but before Vel could do so much as move an inch, a female voice trilled out in laughter, and he snapped his head back to look at the bone marked Usdia that was a bit easier to see, now that she was much closer than before, her eyes still glowing. The totem around her neck leaking red glowing mist out of it. Vel might have made a sound suspiciously like a whimper but it really didn't matter, because the Usdia and her gator were going to kill him.

Myst had been on the lookout for any type of glowing thing that she could mash and mix with water and fill little vials so that she could sell them as.... whatever the Soquili she sold them too wanted them to be. Mostly, she passed them off as some sort of trinket or luck charm. She didn't even have that hard. Some believed whatever they wanted. And she didn't ever lie about it. If someone asked her what they were made of, she told them. If they asked what they were, she would straight say they were basically glowy plants/mushroom/other thing mixed with water. Some of them liked that, saying it was something novel they could show their foals, or something cute for their lover to wear. Some swore up and down that they were lucky, and actually sought her out for more.

Looked like tricking others wasn't the way to go here. She was fine with that. So she had plans to make some sort of deal with someone who could make the little glass containers, since she was always running out and they were expensive. It was a strange little hobby to trade for goods, but it worked until she found something more interesting.

Plus, it was how she met her companion, Akoma Nero, the big black gator who had taken to following her around. She liked having the company, the conversation. And having someone who could swim better than she collect the glowy things in the water was so nice. Having Nero around also made even the larger breed of Soquili think twice before coming after her. They made a good team, and she thought that Nero wanted the company as much as she herself did.

Plus, they both had a bit of a twisted streak which lead to fun fun fun times. Like, for example, wandering through a denser portion of woods, eyes out for anything bright where it shouldn't be, when they stumbled on a brightly colored stallion who looked like he was about to fall over, wide eyes darting in every direction possible. Like he was expecting something to jump out at him and try to eat him. All it had taken was one look down toward Nero and the giant black gator slipped off to get behind the skittish stallion.

Myst had just started approaching, letting her red eyes and the totem around her neck do all the work for her as the stallion caught sight of her and nearly tripped over himself. It was somewhat adorable. Hearing Nero his a warning made her laugh as she watched him twitch and spin and whine.

"Are you a little lost?" She made her voice sing-song, taunting. She wanted to see how far she could push before he ran. It wasn't often fate offered her such a fun little game.

That pineapple sage really was a bugger to find, especially in this dark forest.

"I probably should have thought this through a bit more." The mare muttered, ducking her head under a low branch, scrounging around the thick trunk of the tree for her treasure. It was bright as could be outside of this forest, but inside it was black as night in certain spots. Breaks in the upper foliage gave points of light, but those breaks were getting to be few and far between. Weaving her way around the large trees, nose to the ground Chaci continued her search. The darkness make her search all the more difficult, and the cream-coated mare paused to take stock of her location and make a plan. She'd wandered herself off the trail, which wasn't all that much of a surprise. What was the surprise however? The glowing eyes she could make out not far down the trail. Leaning further around the tree, the mare spotted the Stallion just in time to hear the whimper and see the male jerk. Well, that didn't look alright at all. Never one to leave someone in distress, Chaci abandoned her search for the sage and made her way toward the male and the glowing eyes that seemed to have him so distressed.

As she approached, she spotted a black mass at the stallions hooves that hovered close to the ground. Her angle gave her a bit more light, and she gathered rather quickly is was an alligator. A big one at that. She spotted the female Usida, her bone markings and glowing eyes making her a sight. She seemed quite amused by the startled male, leading Chaci to believe she was mostly harmless... but her gator friend had big teeth. Moving cautiously, the mare stopped a few yards away from the trio, coughing gently.

"Umm... is everything okay over here?"
