SMART Augustin was tutored from a young age in math, science, classics, art, music and foreign languages. He actually enjoys schoolwork, unlike some other children his age.

EARLY CHILDHOOD Augustin is the last child of Alastair and Joséphine Duffy, a Scottish wizard and French witch. He was tutored at a young age in many subjects, much like his older brother and sister. While his older brother was hardly in the house, he interacted a lot with his sister, but she didn't view the interaction as welcoming as he did. This led August to become inward as a child, instead having his own adventures. On one of his adventures, he displayed his magic unintentionally, healing a wounded animal. He was nine when this happened, and August proudly showed his parents. His mother encouraged him, but his father was displeased that August would pick up something dirty like a wounded animal. So, August was very excited when he received his Hogwarts letter, because he could escape the reproachful eye of his father.

SCHOOL YEARS
      ■ FIRST YEAR Augustin met his first friend on the train to Hogwarts, a boy named Oliver Zywiek, though he goes by Ollie. He had sweets for the first time on the train as well. Augustin knew he was going to have many new experiences at Hogwarts, but he wasn't prepared for the ones he was going to have. He made a lot of friends, including Jessalyn Prescott, who started teaching him sign language since she was deaf, and Saffron Adelgrief, who introduced him to the world of spy games.
