 The High Lady Crystalania the Hope-Bringer sighed in relief as she saw the hindquarters of her last petitioner of the day disappear through the archway that served as public entrance to the wide space set aside in the gardens for audiences. It wasn’t that she disliked the work of serving her herd’s needs and helping the members sort through problems but at times it could be exhausting. She made a note to herself that she needed to make time for herself. Soon. She that thought she shook back the ringlets that naturally adorned her mane and turned to sneak through her private doorway that led to a network of sheltered pathways that allowed herself, her family, and her attendants swift unimpeded passage through the expansive gardens that made up the hub of their herds lands.
It was the swift stroll of a few minutes that found her quickly in her own private area where she was greeted by the sight of a steaming cup of tea left sitting on a delicate side table. Both were new additions and very finely made. Procured from some passing artisan herd no doubt. She was instantly fond of the designs painted on the cup. She moved closer and delicately inhaled the aroma rising with the steam from the cup. She couldn’t help a sigh of happiness. Someone had prepared her her favorite winter herbal blend. It always warmed her up emotionally as well as physically. The flavor blend of this particular tea always reminded her that no matter how deeply asleep the gardens around her were, spring would come again. That rebirth was never really far away.
As Crystalania sipped from her cup she felt tension, that she hadn’t even know she was carrying, begin to ease. She really did need to take a night to herself. She quickly calculated the moon phase in her head and was pleased to realize that the moon was nearly full! In fact it would reach fullness that very night. Perfect timing to relax and recharge herself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Feeling terribly satisfied with her choice to take a little self care night, she sipped her tea and settled in to rest as she waited for night to fall.
She wouldn’t have to wait very long she mused to herself as she looked up at the sky. She hadn’t realized just how close to evening it was. In fact dusk was already starting to cast its haze over the branches of the dormant hedges that made up the walls and often, where they were carefully cultivated to provide shelter, the ceilings of her family’s working and living space. No, it wouldn’t be long now. Even as she watched the sky faded further toward darkness and she mused that by the time her tea was finished she should be able to start heading toward her favorite hidden little meadow.

Abel Nox felt himself swimming up through the shallow pool of sleep that he had been attempting to keep himself in all day. The subtle glow just on the other side of his eyelids told him that it was just before sunset. The same time he had been waking every evening since he had started on his most recent adventure. Like most of his travels he had no idea where he was going or how long it was likely to take. He was normally an aimless wanderer, going wherever the stars called him. However, unlike any other journey he had ever taken this one was driven by destiny. And that wasn't just a romantic notion. Nope, it was the real deal.
As he tried to cling to the last few moments of rest before he was seized by wakefulness, Nox let his mind wander to the vision that had been granted to him by his mother. It had been an unexpected gift the night the angeni of navigation had offered him a glimpse of his future. For just a brief moment he had seen a garden of roses bathed in moonlight. Above them was the very constellation he had been following these past few weeks. Being who he was it was, of course the stars that had caught this stallion's attention. So the next morning he had set off with no other goal than to wander until he found that garden. Which, after some thought over the first few days didn't make much sense with as early in the year as it was. There wouldn't be any roses in bloom and it was likely the constellation was slightly shifted from where he had seen it. However, after having committed to starting out there was no point in stopping and, having no other plans anyway, he had decided to travel on.
With a sigh Nox finally opened his eyes to find that he had been correct about the timing of day. He heaved himself to his feet and shook out his coat shedding the few bits of litter that clung to him from where he had bedded down. The frozen ground hadn't offered much comfort but he wasn't a heavy sleeper anyway. With nothing else to keep him there he began picking his way through the trees of the sparse forest he had been traveling through the last couple of days. The ground had started to rise slightly and he new that within the next day or so he would begin an ascent into the mountain range he had been traveling in the general direction of. He wouldn't be able to continue on much farther in this direction. He didn't enjoy the though of being caught in a late winter mountain snowstorm.
