Physical Description: Hilla is a tall imposing women, always orderly and neatly groomed. She has long silver grey hair which she ties in a tight bun from day to day making her appearance even more sever. She went grey early in her life and she find it suits her so she has never bothered to dye it. Apart from her silver hair she holds her age well. The lines around her cool grey blue eyes and straight thin lips are minimal. Her body is still at the peak of physical fitness at the prime weight for her height and could belong to a women 10-20 years her junior.
Along with her generous height she had a long oval face, long legs and arms giving her an over all stretched appearance, Like she had started off with more average proportions and then been pulled like taffy.
Her clothes are always pressed and she prefers uniform or sharp formal weyr to anything else. She will almost always have her knots tied to her shoulder and her choice in colours are dark, mostly black or deep browns with suitable gold highlights to let others know of her dragons colour.
Personality: Hilla likes order. She likes rules and discipline. A place for everything and for everything it's place. She is unforgiving when people break the rules and unbending in their implementation but she will work harder than anyone to make sure the weyr is being run smoothly. She flourishes in her duty when it comes to helping the head man organise and keep everything on track. She strives to make sure every drill she under takes or manoeuvre she preforms is flawless. However it leaves little room for out of the box thinking and she can struggle more with creative activities and tests of ingenuity.
Because Hilla is confident in her orderly world she has a lot of self confidence. She is prideful and sometimes arrogant. She does not like to be questioned or second guessed and she has the force of presence to make sure that she rarely comes up against back talk. Her biggest fear is being humiliated and disgracing herself so she will always work doubly hard to make sure that does not happen. Hilla is a women that can be relied upon always. And despite a personality that might lean itself towards HR she has always been loyal to Western where her own beloved Xanyth was shelled and her broods have been born.
She cares greatly about Pern. In particular about the future of dragonkind. They were given a false hope that thread had been eliminated and thus she felt riders lost their way and ,much of the respect they deserve from the people. She will ensure that does not happen again. Hilla might feel justified in scolding other riders for their behaviour holding everyone including herself to the highest standards. Her verbal take downs can be brutal but she will never accept anyone else talking down her weyr, other riders or the bravery of perns riders in her presence.
Hilla is also a natural teacher. She has a knack for breaking down complex ideas into simple easy to understand terms and steps. A disciplinarian she might be but she also feel it is part of her duty to make sure the new generations are best prepared to take over from their elders. She often takes special interest in any new young gold riders as they are the source of the future of dragons no matter what rank they achieve so will seek them out to welcome them and offer advice.

History: Hilla was born and raised in Ruatha hold in a normal family. Her father was a journeyman smithcrafter who had fallen for her mother during one of his visits to the hold. Her mother worked at the lord holders fort as one of his servants. So she was careful to teach her children the manners and grace of the nobles while their fathers skilled hands kept the family comfortable. Being a child of Ruatha, dragons, especially white dragons were always prominent in the holds art and history. Hilla loved the old stories. She adored the dragons and because white dragons were the holds special heroes she never did latch on to the old fashioned thinking that a dragons size strictly decided their worth.
To show her passions, She always memorised the old ballads and it became her party trick to recite any request that was asked of her word perfectly.
For her parents it was not hard to see where she belonged. After saving some money and gaining the approval from a master Harper that resided at the hall Hilla was sent to Harper hall. There she sharpened her gift, observing more learning, history and ballads. Even then she was a reliable child, often asked to help her teachers. Soon following in their footsteps she turned to focus on the teaching role herself.
When she was raised to journeyman, she left the halls to hone her craft ,teaching the children that resided in the smaller cot holds their letters and the basics of history and music that made pern turn and had shaped the world around them. She was also was keen to impress just how much the people of pern owed to dragons and their riders.
It was during her stay in one of the small southern cot holds that she met a young rider on search. The rider picked out one of her students and then turned to Hilla herself and invited her back to the weyr to stand. Hilla was delighted. She accepted mounted the green back to western. Hilla took to candidate life like a dolphin to water. Being a teacher herself most of the basics lessons were familar to her and thanks to her travelling the journeyman's path her geography was good too. Whats more the militaristic life style and strict rules appealed to her ordered mind.
She was not surprised when she impressed the gold on her first hatching. Hilla had Instantly known she belonged there. It felt right and natural. So did finding a gold life partner. Her perfect other. Xanyth.
After that they continued to excel. Though Hilla struggled to bond with her fellow weyrlings thanks to her general dissatisfaction with their work ethic and boisterous behaviour so far beneath her. She did find worthy sisters among the other gold riders who welcomed her into the queens wing.
She also still had a special soft spot for white riders thanks to her up bringing. And it was a male white rider instead of a bronze that became her first true weyr mate much to peoples surprise. Though she still flew bronzes when Xanyth came to rise it was the white rider who she invited back to her own bed. However he was restless as she was settled in her ways. With no thread to fight he felt he had no purpose at the weyr. Hilla was not enough to keep him planted either. He had always lapped up the stories Hilla told him of Ruth and other whites and he wanted to add his name to that list. With bold dreams he left Hilla and set out across pern. She heard he settled at Igen after a time but she didn't seek him out again.
Hilla was heart broken but she had to protect herself. Her first love ended and Hilla cleaved tighter to her rules and regulations of weyr life to keep going. Routine and work were her saviour along with Xanyth's constant voice of reassurance and love.
Her love life became more turbulent after. Sometimes she stayed with the bronze riders that caught her Xanyth she even bore several children. But she never truly opened her heart again. Plus she was not an easy person to live with and the bronze riders soon moved on when Xanyth cast aside their dragons for her next conquest.
When thread returned and true panic took hold of pern Hilla was quick to offer her services. Summoning all her harpers memory of the old ways to combat thread. She helped organise new demands for tithes quickly and worked closely with the staff of the weyr to settle the needs for the weyr as a whole. Hilla knew the whole of pern mourned for the victims of the disaster but for Hilla thread brought new purpose.
Other: Hilla still has a soft spot for whites and their riders despite it all. And she considers other gold riders her sisters.
DRAGON
Name: Xanyth
Age: 46
Color: Gold
Size: 43'
Physical Description: Xanyth is on the small side for a gold but her proportions conform to the average in almost every other way. Her wings are average length and withe. Her tail is average, her head nobs are average. Even her toes conform to the phenotype of dragon kind. The only thing off about her is one eye is slightly bigger than the other making it look slightly bugged. Xanyth has has the odd eye since birth and it does not seem to affect her sight or her flying. But the imperfection has been known to bother the gold from time to time when she is reminded of it.
Personality: Xanyth is a queen and she is not going to let you forget it. Did you see how well her hide shines? Did you see how big her last clutch of eggs was? What fine dragons they produced. Xanyth is a dragon easily pleased by all her achievements. She thinks highly of herself and thinks everyone else should too. She likes to be praised, worshipped, adored and she is easily flattered.
Luckily this is trait her rider can use to get the best out of her and make her work hard. On the flip side it can also make Xanyth irritable and even angry if someone fails to recognise her brilliance.
Xanyth can be fierce when challenged or questioned and she will cut someone down verbally if they fail to show her respect or she will cut down a bronze in flight if they do not give her what she sees as her due. Her rider is the only one that can get away with criticising the gold without back lash because she trusts her riders judgement completely.
Xanyth also likes things to be neat and ordered around her. Cleanliness is vital so she dedicates part of every day to a wash. Either a scrub from her rider or dip in the lake. She even eats with stunning delicacy for a dragon, splitting the beast and gutting it of its tasty insides before moving outwards to the hide.
Xanyth also enjoys strict routine. It helps keep her whole life neat and ordered. Knowing what to expect and what comes next in her day so that she can plan suitably keeps her calm and happy.
Deviation from routine and unexpected turns make her moody, snappish and drive her towards her rider to seek extra reassurance like a startled child. Meaning she can put other dragons to shame with her moods when it is time for her to rise. It just upsets her day so much!
When it comes to flights she is easily swayed by flattery and fawning. If the bronze is particularly smooth she might even attach herself to him for several turns and make him one of her favourites. But her weakness to a smooth talker means her current love can be outdone on the next flight and her affections switch.
Only her children and her rider have her eternal love. She made them, so her pride extends to them. She is so proud of all her hatchlings no matter how old they get she will puff up and boast about all their victories and positive traits. Once they are bonded and away from her she doesn't feel the need to mother them and fuss them as some golds do. But she does enjoy watching and noting their exploits from afar.
Outside of her clutches she also takes her other duties very seriously
Her rider has always impressed on her the duty of her race and when thread returned it gave her another way to impress and earn more praise. Plus she needs dragons around her to worship her so she is very against them all falling out of the sky.

Okay, so... first of all, at Western it's the Headman, aka Casgar who runs the lower caverns, along with R'mor, who is now the Weyrman. It's possible that R'mor asks for Hilla's help from time to time, but this is by no means her only or most important job. As a goldrider, her primary job is to be a wingrider and help fight Thread. Most of her duties are associated with that - not all, as she would also be expected to work with the dragonhealers as her Queen has a much better chance of calming wounded dragons than the healers themselves. That would be one of the most important duties.
She doesn't really have any official role where it comes to weyrlings and would need to defer to Liat or Danzik for any punishment she might think needs to be dealt out. Does this woman have any official capacity in the Weyr other than as a wingrider, because right now it's reading like she has some unspoken authority, and she does not have anything more than any other wingrider (of any color) would. If she wants more than this is the wrong Weyr for her. She can hope to possibly achieve more in the future... but I'm kind of confused on where she currently is.
