Shadow had spent awhile scouting her way around the world (least as far as she'd gotten in the world as young rogue), and had found the life not as satisfying as her mother had once painted it to be. Maybe it suited her, but Shadow found it lacking in many things...mostly company. Reliable company at that, as she'd found many who'd be willing to befriend her if they could make a snack of little Swiftfoot in the process. She didn't stand for that, and was tired of having to constantly defend her little buddy from attacks from "friends" from a supposedly easy meal.
Swiftfoot had been a companion of hers since she was young, he was a very bold bunny, taking in a young cub like her that could of eaten him in a bite, but for the fact curiosity drove her to continue with him until friendship had cleanly cemented their relationship. Perhaps it was the fact that he wasn't much older when they first met that made things easier - both filled with curiosity about the world and finding satisfaction in the companionship. He'd also improved her hunting skills, his willingness to pretend to be prey and then giving her hints of how to improve her ability. Granted, he wasn't too fond of her eating rabbit, but he did acknowledge that life had a certain morbidness to it and it afforded him great protection in the process. As long as she didn't make a snack of his family, he was willing to overlook the occasional bite a la bunny.
In short - it benefitted both parties to a great degree.
Their partnership was so solid that they were rarely seen apart, even while scouting. They went together, Swiftfoot taking the lead into areas where Shadow wouldn't be able to as easily and reporting back on any findings. In this sense, it made them a very thorough team, and over time, it made Shadow wonder if this was how she could get into a pack. She really had no idea if they would accept her, but wouldn't it be fun to give it a shot? Swiftfoot would then be safe...at least safer...and she could have some real friends for once.
Over the last couple of weeks, Shadow and Switfoot made quick work of scouting some of the local area packs, and watching them to see which wolves might be the most welcoming. She opted to try out Dawnstar, as it seemed a wolf or two had a bunny companion as well. This gave Shadow much hope, and so one day, after getting her courage up, she stepped across the border and howled, letting whomever was part of the pack know she was around and wished to talk.
