Another day had ended. Dinner had finished, the sun had set, and all was quiet at the Hatching Sands. Kitchen staff had finished putting away the remains of dinner, and set the night hearth up for anyone wanting a late night snack. Candidates had been given lights out call several hours ago.

Killakeeth rested, curled about her clutch on the hot sands. She lifted her head to gently nudge Sunset Egg into a slightly different position. Her eyes shined gently in faint light of the glows.

From where he'd been allowed to rest, Teth stirred at the motions of the Gold. Killa? Is something happening??? There was concern and excitement in equal measure in his voice, though also a heavy dose of sleepiness. Blearily one eye opened, then another, as the massive brown turned to look at the Queen and the egg she'd moved.

Killakeeth heard her mate, but her attention was on the eggs. She’d thought…… The large gold listened. She tilted her head, looking from one egg to another to another. A soft hum started in her throat, it is time Teth. Call your rider. The dragon reached out to her own rider, the hum slowly building in her chest. Vosin dear, the time is now.

Vosin swung her legs sleepily from her temporary cot and grabbed for the clothes she’d laid out nearby just in case this sort of thing happened. She located a drudge and passed the word. Soon others would be awakened.

The weyr would be getting no sleep just yet tonight.

Welcome to the Mystery Clutch Hatching!

General Hatching Information

Welcome to Western Weyr's second (and the shop's 4th) PC Hatching! We want to thank everyone for participating in this shop and giving it so much life! Mr Cheri and I wouldn't be here without you, so thank you for sticking around. That said, we do want to go over some general rules (IC and OOC) and reminders so this Hatching can be a success!

General Information & Rules
  • Not every Candidate or Player is going to Impress. Please, please, please don't get too discouraged or upset if that is the case. We only have a limited number of pets to give away, and honestly tried to find the best fit for each dragon. There will be other Hatchings, I promise. gaia_star Many, many, many other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if Staff impresses a dragon. We try not to take away from the players fun, but staff are also players, too. Any dragons that might go to staff were either customed-in behind the scenes or chosen simply because their Candidate was the best fit. As stated above, there will be other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if your Candidate does not Impress to your preferred color. Just like in Pern, nobody could ever guess whether or not a Candidate Impressed, much less a certain color. This is supposed to be fun, not some sort of tragedy. If you don't like the dragon that we fit to your Candidate you absolutely cannot rehome it or give it away. Additionally, if you throw a fit about it and we find out, or you discourage other players, this could bar you from future Hatchings. We honestly tried very hard to match Candidates with characters so the fit mad sense.

  • Don't discourage others or vent at them if they Impress (or don't Impress) a dragon or certain color. If we hear about players giving other players crap for their Impression, we can bar you from future Hatchings. There will be other characters, other Hatchings, and other opportunities for all! Please keep this fun and support one another, not tear folks apart.

  • We really, really, really, really loved all of your Candidates! No really, Cheri and I hemmed and hawed for days. In some cases, Candidates may not have Impressed because we have ideas for particular colors or personalities for them. If you do not Impress, we are aware, and we have big ideas for the future. Please give us a chance and be patient.

  • IC Action = IC Consequence. If you role-play in the Hatching and your Candidate does something stupid, remember that ICly there could be hell to pay. If a dragon doesn't maul you, then A'ral could very well pull you from the Sands. Please don't make A'ral do that. F'dral, and of course all the Seconds are also here to watch. Additionally, regardless of whether or not you signed your character up for death or maiming or not, if you do something stupid ICly, the shop has a right to respond accordingly, and that includes death. Please, don't put us in that position.

  • We will hatch all the PC eggs and play the hatchlings until they Impress. Once they Impress, they will be the players to control. We will quote folks in the Hatching Sands, but also PM them the dragonets profile.

  • The Hatching Thread will likely peter off after the last egg Impresses. We may not close it officially so folks can RP in the thread as needed. Also, please, once you Impress, continue to RP in the Hatching Thread! It gets kind of sad and unfortunate when, at the end of Hatchings, only a few stragglers are RPing in it. :c We would love to have everyone feel included, including those who don't Impress or who are posting on the Sands actively.

  • New Rule: We would absolutely love it if folks REFRAINED from immediately plotting their baby dragonets until ALL THE EGGS ARE HATCHED. We don't want people who Impress near the end to miss out on plots or bonding with others. There will be plenty of time for plots after the Hatching has ended! It's okay to RP with folks, or talk about your bbs, but just... try not to immediately line them up with plot ideas or story ideas well before the last egg has hatched.

  • Everybody is encouraged to participate! Bring your weyrfolk and holdfolk to watch by having them sit in the Sands and cheer. Candidates, whether they were at the Touching or not, should be on the Sands an will be assumed to have arrived regardless if you have time to post them. Dragons can perch on ledges to watch the newest babies, and comment to one another. Guests and visitors will be flown in -- from mighty Holders to the families of those hold- and craftbred Candidates. Come one, come all -- even the lower cavern workers, while some might have volunteered to help behind the scenes for extra pay, are also encouraged to watch if they wish. It's up to you! This is a time for celebration.

  • High Reaches Weyr folks are invited, albeit grudgingly! Zheria is staying behind with Eveleth, and is sending Olliah and Fianth along in her stead--the very Weyrwoman Second whose own hatching had been somewhat, er, blundered by Western. Harry Potter & Disney Weyrlings CANNOT attend. They are too young yet and must stay behind. Wingleaders were invited to represent High Reaches, but they must have at least one Wingsecond at the Weyr in case of emergencies. Or vice-versa. Not all Wings were allowed to go... Well just pretend it was some of the NPC Flights that were asked to stay jusssst in case. High Reaches can't quit functioning just because Western is bustling with activity!

Also, tensions are still a bit high between the two Weyrs but perhaps this one will smooth things over.

  • There will be a Hatching Feast thread for Candidates to console themselves, the newest weyrlings to mingle and introduce themselves to one another, and all the Weyr and its visitors to rejoice. This will open after the Hatching thread closes/ends.

  • This Hatching takes places quite late. Weyrlings turn in around 10:00pm, and it's been a few hours, so I suspect it's more about 1:00am Western time. Given timezones, it likely is a few hours later for High Reaches, so I'd imagine it being closer to 4:00am. No one's getting much sleep tonight! It's okay to have characters a bit groggy.

  • This time, Western has decided to simply go whole hog. There WILL still be a feast, and yes, it will happen immediately after the Hatching. This isn't the first time a hatching has happened at an awkward hour, and it likely won't be the last. Instead of delaying the feast for the following night, Western is going to throw the biggest, overnight party you've ever seen. Who has time for napping when there are babies to get to know?!

  • For High Reaches non-riders, any Lower Cavern workers and such can likely attend the Hatching either as a guest -- if it was their restday -- or as hired-help. Since Western will be feeding two Weyr, plus guests, and housed their Candidates for a week or so, High Reaches only thinks its fair to offer to help bring food, chefs, and worker to aid in setup and post-Hatching clean up! They need to be on their best behavior, though.

IC Rules & General Information
  • Candidates can get mauled, so they have been told time and time again to stay out of the dragonets way! If they art attacked, they are to try to cover their head and protect their vulnerable bits, but should not really fight back. That might upset it further.

  • Guests and visitors CANNOT enter the Sands. Those who arrive late will be ushered to seats closest to the entrance, or asked to stand at the entrance itself, or just wait outside. Any person who is not a Candidate that tries to get on the Sands will be removed, unless (of course) a dragon is attempting to get to you.

  • Unaffiliated riders, non-HR folks, and crafters not living at Western ARE NOT allowed unless they actually have a reason to be there. This includes being an invited guest (usually Journeyman or Masters of renown that have something to offer the Weyr), of prominent family lines (they do love their Holders), happen to be dating someone who lives at the Weyr and are their guest, or you happen to be going because an immediate family member is on the Sands as a Candidate. That's it. Most of Pern never, ever, gets to see a Hatching so they are meant to be special when folks do go. They're not open for just anyone to come into willy-nilly.

  • Do not break into eggs! Period. If an egg needs to be broken into, the shop will make it VERY clear.

  • Candidates are asked to arrive on the Sands with a thin pair of sandals-- no boots or heavy soled shoes! The Sands are hot, so standing from foot-to-foot is common.

  • Candidates will be brought to the Hatching Sands by A'ral. Should they Impress, they will take their dragons outside of the Hatching Sands entrance, where Weyrlingmaster Liat and her assistants will have prepared meat to feed them, and have buckets of oil and brushes to scrub them once fed. Baby dragons tend to eat a lot, and tend to itch a lot as their skin dries. The new weyrlings belongings will be moved from the Candidate Barracks to the Weyrling Barracks by drudges and lower cavern's workers as needed.

  • Visitors and guests are invited to stay for the Hatching feast and riders will bring them home when finished.

Any other questions? PM Uta or Mr Cheri! With that, welcome to the Hatching!!

((OOC: Your Candidates should wash up quickly! Get them dressed, get their robes on, sandals on (yes, A'ral insisted on sandals.) A'ral will be escorting the Candidates to the Sands.))

When the very first dragon began to hum, A'ral was on his feet in an instant. The hour may have been late, but there was no mistaking Zinath and Junenth's hum. The Candidates had been in their cots hours ago, but that no longer mattered. It didn't take long for him to scramble into his clothes--the Hatching had been imminent for a sevenday. Quickly, he hurried to the Barracks, rising them all and ushering them awake. "Candidates. Assemble. Get dressed, get ready--Hurry!" It was time. You are being entrusted with something precious. Do not forget that. Lives depend on you.

"Get. Moving. Now!" When it seemed that some of them were shell shocked, perhaps not ready for this, there was no time, no choice. "There's no telling how spirited this bunch is. You are about to put your lives in danger, and if you do anything especially stupid, you might lose them. Let's nobody die tonight. Okay? We're not going to make more decisions that end in angry dragonets, or death. The eggs are hatching. Get out there and make me proud, shardit."

High Reaches didn't need another reason to scoff at them, shaffit. He was not going to let that happen again. He pulled on his riding jacket and led his Candidates out toward the Sands. "Remember your lessons, remember why you're here."

It might have been an early hour, but the loud hum of welcome to the infants would wake everyone in the Weyr.

Candidate Aelyx : Western : She/Her

It was time. The call that woke her had the female candidate shooting out of her bed with excitement, and rushing to wash up. First her face, then her hair, tossing it back in to a haphazard green, black rooted ponytail. Hatchings were a somber and exciting affair all at once, and the speech by A'ral reminded her of this, even as she smoothed her robes in to a careful arrangement. There, she looked her best, and was ready for anything. Then, it was running to the Sands, and getting in with the other Candidates, bowing to the Queen and her mate, before moving to stand with the girls awaiting the first infants on the Sands. Her eyes, however, sought out her beloved. Had Huarwar made it with her? She wanted to at least stand near him...

Candidate Wren : Western : He/Him

Oh, here it was at last. Wren had already been rather sleepless, still thinking about the precious little eggs, and how their reactions had been. It was only fitting that the Hatching was called. Pale blonde hair was meticulously braided in to an elegant style, his eyes glimmering with delight at his own gorgeous look. Maybe N'ceph would be watching....Wren intended to make his father, the man he loved, AND his candidatemaster proud today. He would be the best boy on the sands. Slowly, he traced his way behind the others, standing idly in the crowd as he watched the dragons. Oh, this would be wonderful.

C'yx and Blue Iriseth : Western

Iriseth had rousted his Rider with little ceremony, all but throwing C'yx out in to the hallway so that he could make it in time. The Blue, however, found a ledge quickly and carefully, tapping down the ground with his feet (not that it did any good), so that Eosphoth could lay there with him. Crooning excitedly, the Blue took up the hum with the others, At least C'yx was there this time.

Indeed, the blinded Rider was sitting towards the back, humming along with the song of the dragons and tapping a small melody in to his leg.

Finally. Rundanrul wasn't sleepy at all as he tugged on his robes and sandals, adrenaline pumping through his system. He'd been ready to sleep just minutes ago but now he felt like he could run from here to High Reaches and back and still be there in time for the first egg to crack. His first Hatching! He moved with the hoards of Candidates to the sands, his heart pounding with excitement even though his expression was relaxed. A calm, cool exterior was needed tonight if he wanted to meet his companion.

It might not be tonight, he reminded himself, but the confident part of him shoved that down. He was ready to meet his dragon tonight! A bow to the golden queen was given before taking his place on the sands, his eyes on the pile of eggs.

---

Kateleel's heart was beating quickly as well, though his was a mix of adrenaline and anxiety. The last time he'd been on the sands had been a rather life-altering time (for the better, of course. He'd come to understand himself as a person) and he hoped tonight would be as well, though in a different way. Finding his partner would solidify his confidence in himself, that he was worthy of a lifelong companion that he would know as well as he knew himself. Taking a deep breath, Kateleel steadied himself as he bowed to Killakeeth before taking the sands. There were a lot of eggs to get through tonight and he hoped no one would get too tired while waiting.

---

Fivudal had been ready to go to Western with the Candidates since the clutch had been laid. With the way the last hatching at High Reaches had gone Western was accepting extra healers in preparation for another bloodbath. It was always hopeful that hatching would be gentle and calm but that wasn't always the way of things. Fivudal was more than ready to help, though, and he hopped on the back of one of the ferry dragons to head to the other Weyr.

Upon arrival he made his way to the other healers, ready to head out onto the sands but off to the side. They'd wait and watch and if anyone ended up in trouble they'd be there to help, but for now they'd let things take their course.

[If your Candidate gets hurt you can quote me for Fivudal to come to their rescue!]

Marinel had gotten some sleep, but not enough to be in a particularly good mood—and not enough to be rested. That hardly mattered, though, when he realized why they were being roused. The dragons were humming! There was no mistaking the sound. He rubbed at his eyes and quickly got dressed.

Right. He hoped everyone would listen to A’ral this go. He didn’t want to see anyone get hurt—but it wasn’t like the dragonets had someone to tell them what to do! He hoped it’d go well. Underneath tired logic was a spike of anxiety. This was it.

Well. He knew whatever happened, he’d be thrilled to meet Killakeeth’s children.

Nikal - 19, he/him

He had been perfectly asleep. Nikal tended to lie like the dead when he got comfortable, which was a perk for Gauze and Phalanges who enjoyed finding a spot to nestle that wouldn’t suddenly get taken away from them. Except for tonight, when A’ral’s message had them all moving into a drowsy frenzy.

Phalanges shriek-croaked her displeasure and clipped her little teeth into the outer ring of his ear as he threw the blankets off. Nikal was used to the green’s MO and brushed her off with barely a word, half tripping over himself in the dark. Gauze, new to the procedures, sat patiently on the bed and watched as his human got ready for something with a perfunctory air.

Nikal was unpleasant normally. He was worse when he didn’t get his sleep.

Trying to marshal his thoughts, he made his way to the sands with the rest, yawning openly until he realized that looked bad and stifling the rest until they were in place. His already asymmetrical hair seemed wilder with bedhead applied. What time even was it? Faranth damn it...No, no. Get the sharding happy thoughts going. Maybe an extra candle mark would have made that miracle come easier.

- - -
Karunia - 20, she/her

Karunia practically crowed when she realized what was going on. Sleep? Didn’t know her! Party time now!! Adrenaline made her want to skip rather than walk with the other candidates, made her wanna yell HELLO, CUTIES! when she bowed to Killakeeth and saw the eggs, made her also wanna yell HEY DAD I’M OVER HERE CAN YOU SEE, and made her practically vibrate (with excitement, not nerves, she’d assure) as she made her way over to Matotoka. Today’s slapdash head cloth matched Western’s colors, a piece she had kept close since the touchings had started and that she always wore to hatchings for good luck.

Just because said luck hadn’t activated yet didn’t mean it wouldn’t!

“Captain on deck!” Karunia stage whispered, standing straight with her arms behind her back. “Look alive, Toto! This ship might sail yet, and I can’t have you falling asleep at the wheel!”

Stormy - 19, she/her

Stormy had lied awake almost candlemark before the call, sweating off an old nightmare. She wanted to say hearing A’ral barking at them made it easier to stop thinking about it, but if anything the surge of tension in the air made her that much more anxious. Starstorm crooned on the girl’s shoulder, hopping off only when Stormy gave a quick explanation. They’d meet again soon enough, if she didn’t do something stupid. Like fall asleep on the sands or cry.

She felt the sheen of sweat on her palms and feet refuse to dry up as she joined the rest on the sands, which now clung to her sandals like seasoning on raw meat. Stormy wiggled her toes as surreptitiously as possible to wipe them off, but the heat radiating from the sands even in the middle of the night put a stop to it. She felt gross despite taking a shower and hoped the babies would accept her apologies for looking so pitiful if they noticed.

- - -
Dhawsn - 29, he/him

Dhawsn sprang into action like a herding canine once woken, barely able to contain his already large grins as he and the rest prepared. Hatchings were always fun to him whether he found a dragon or not: something about watching the impressions and the various ways they manifested felt like a sacred thing he was lucky to participate in, if only as an observer. That and, well, the feast was always something to look forward to regardless! He couldn’t wait to see the shenanigans from people who didn’t get to sleep when they got their hands on some booze.

Serfie and Etansi were among some of the people he wanted to keep an eye on as the candidates marched to the sands, as well as Marinel. Dhawsn had a list of kids to bother at any given point, but unfortunately it was impossible to be everywhere at once. He’d just have to start randomly and play it by ear like he always did; sometimes there were candidates that looked like they could use a friend, sometimes there weren’t.

The big man stifled a yawn and readied himself for another exciting day of dragon-human matchmaking.

Candidate Huarwar : Western : He/Him

The call to suddenly awaken had Huarwar sitting up and rubbing his eyes for a moment as he swung his legs out of the cot and sleepily moved to wash himself up. His body was moving on autopilot at the moment, going through the motions of washing himself and dressing in the new candidate robes and sandals. For a moment he contemplated how it felt to wear a new set of these, his old ones had been broken in and comfortable these almost felt a bit too stiff to him. Of course he couldn't wear the ones he had at the last hatching, they had been covered in blood.

Pushing the thoughts from his mind Huarwar made his way towards where everyone was gathering. His eyes scanned the faces of the other candidates, looking for one in particular. He didn't see them yet but he was sure he would find her, he wasn't going to allow her to stand alone, not on these sands.

Bowing to the golden Queen and the brown father, Huarwar moved through the candidates until he saw Aelyx scanning the crowd for him. A soft smile crossed his lips as he moved over to her, slipping up behind her and leaning towards her ear. "May I stand next to you on this fortuitous day? I've heard you are quite lucky."

C'ryn and Bronze Aresoth : High Reaches Rider : He/Him

Taking the current High Reaches Candidates to Western a sevenday ago and then being roused and beginning to ferry others back to the weyr was a bit of a shock to C'ryn but the man was prepared and ready for it in the long run. Aresoth had agreed to this job to allow his rider to go and watch the hatching in support to his half-brother as well as his friend Kiri.

After the last hatching here, after having spoken to Kiri instead of going to the feast, he hadn't had the chance to really be in contact with her. He didn't know if she was going to be standing today and if she didn't he couldn't or wouldn't blame her.

Upon arriving, Aresoth hovered for a moment in the air, watching everything as he found a ledge to land upon. The bronze dragon hummed joining the song of the other dragons as his rider slipped from the straps and sat down upon the ledge.

Vosin/Gold Killakeeth
Vosin yawned through her excitement. Did the eggs have to pick now to hatch? She’d just gotten comfortable. But she wasn’t going to miss anything anyhow. The red-head had gotten dressed and come straight to the Hatching Sands and picked as close a spot as she could. It was one of the few perks being among the first people there. Plus there were several candidates she wanted to watch.

Candidate Omurntas Western
He was in the middle of a good dream, when it felt like the whole weyr exploded into noise. It was a weird noise. Like an ache in his ear bone that wouldn’t go away. Then people were clomping everywhere. It finally too his three blue flitters (Apparition, Nightfall, and Skull) squeaking in excitement or agitation, he wasn’t sure which, that full roused the young man.

That’s when he realized what all the commotion and noise was about. Killakeeth’s clutch had finally decided to hatch. Omurntas washed up and threw on his robes and sandals. He felt utterly ridiculous in them, but everyone else was putting them on as well. He ordered the trio of blues to sit and stay on his bed.

Omurntas headed out smartly to the sands. He entered with some others and bowed to the queen and brown. It was his first hatching. Interested, he watched the eggs rocking.

Rinis- Apprentice Firelizard Breeder Western
A chorus of humming from many tiny throats awoke the firelizard breeder. There could only be one reason. The dragon’s clutch was hatching. She awoke her weyrmate as she rolled out of bed. Solouth would give them a ride to the sands. Rinis tossed on her nearest clothes and they headed out.

She’d given this up, but she still really enjoyed watching Hatchings. The pair settled into the stands and Rinis cuddled her firelizards around her. A cheep from Bourbon greeting someone she knew, made the young woman look around. A familiar face and accompanying swarm of firelizards made her smile.

“Shalaera! Over here! Come sit with us.”

ulix & brown argoth

If the double clutch is anything to go by, these scraps won’t last the morning without mishap, Ulix said to his life partner as the candidates began to roll out. On the outside, he was nothing but the hint of a smile, but the former bounty hunter held the same general view High Reaches did of its sister weyr. A few idiots had fallen asleep in the sun before, so he wasn’t holding his breath someone wouldn’t doze in this early morning.

Normally Ulix didn’t attend West’s hatchings, but Argoth had been beside himself at the idea of Keris impressing and never getting to say goodbye or meet her partner. Thank Faranth he could pass the baby back to the crèche in the meantime. How did women stand the first few turns of life?

Argoth would have made a low whine, but he was too caught up in the humming to do anything but. It lifted his mood a little, being hopeful. < Do you think she would forget us if she found her own dragon? > he asked worriedly nonetheless. < What if her dragon doesn’t like us? What if she never comes back? > Keris had assuaged him multiple times, but the brown’s anxieties weren’t so easily combated, especially now that it was actually happening.

Nonsense. Don't start that up again, Argoth. We came to support, not to cry.

Argoth very much wanted to cry. To sing. But it would have to wait. For now, at least, she sat with Ulix in the stands, and he could brush against her mind as simply as his rider touched her waist, which both did almost simultaneously. The humming intensified around them.

“Not too tired from the day’s work, are you?” Ulix asked her.

Danzik/Eosphoth
Danzik wandered carefully through the barracks - shaking any sleeping candidates awake and making sure everybody had sandals, your robe is here, go, follow A'ral. Orderly, go.

She'd keep the order so nothing was too hectic besides the excitement of potential future.

As soon as I am certain the candidates are where they should be I will come join you, my love~ Eosphoth's mind was a little somewhere else as she gently booped any candidates who looked as though they would be receptive of a little draconic boost to help perk them up. The humming did have a way of taking care of that itself, but...

Aryale

Aryale liked sleep as much as anybody in a Weyr did - it was a required part of living. It had just been...harder to sleep lately. That little sore spot on her heart, that buzz that ran through it and tried to trample over it - anger, anger, anger. Curse being unhatched - and a thrill that begged for the chance to meet them all, knowing it was any day.

Any night.

She'd been exhausted when she'd crawled into her bed that night, not even that buzz like the promise of a vacation coming up able to keep her from dozing off. It broke in an instant when the call came out - A'ral was waking candidates, Danzik was coming through to do bed-checks it looked.

Changing into a robe was an easy enough task - they'd kind of made it impossible to be hard, after all - and she'd tucked her sandals away in the one place she couldn't lose them. Finding the people she wanted to stand near, though? A little bit more of a venture. "Humble, go to dad," Aryale instructed, sending the little green off with a somewhat annoyed cheep as she followed after the hustling and bustling crowd that was also going in the same direction.

The sands always felt so small when the humming was happening and her heart wanted to sink into her stomach from nerves. Hoo. Hoo boy. Still, a bow to Killakeeth and Teth wasn't difficult to manage through the excitement and anxiousness, before she found a clear enough area to try and spot a familiar face from....hopefully at least one of them would want to stand near her...right?

Matotoka

His calm was deceptive - Matotoka took his time with every step of the process. From changing into his robe, to taking a few minutes to ponder if he should use Karunia's bandana to tie his hair back with, he simply wasn't in a rush like everybody else was. The eggs could wait a little bit, right? At least, enough time for him to make sure his brother had the time he needed to get ready and out before he had to show his face anywhere.

Despite what spice and salt had been exchanged between them after the Touching, Matotoka's stance on his mission hadn't changed. He had to keep a calm head since Bukichi couldn't. He never could and that was why they were in this mess to begin with.

He scrubbed such nonsense out as he made his way with a clear-of-Bukichi crowd to the sands, making sure to bow to the parents before finding a spot that gave a rather clear view of the little thing his brother guarded so closely. That the girl gave him a scowl and a gesture he had to believe meant 'I'm watching you' only made her all the more fitting company.

On the note of fitting company.....

"Mornin' Captain!" Matotoka greeted, standing less tall but still folding his arms behind his back with a half-grin of amusement. "Getting the helmsman up and running before the ship, though." he tapped his own forehead in indication.

Papys

At least Papys couldn't get a robe wrong, though it looked almost funny on his too-tall and too-boney frame. Anybody who pointed it out was answered with a laugh and hearty agreement as he ruffled his hair. Danzik had to stop him out the door to make him go get his sandals.

"Whoops!"

She didn't seem too impressed as he did an enormous U to go back, put them on, then rejoin the group he'd been tailing after - who perhaps had been hoping they were rid of him for that little slip-up.

Fortunately, getting on the sands - bowing, trying to not grin his entire jaw off - wasn't something he could really get wrong either. The young man continued to beam as he surveyed the sands. Now....who would he stand with this time?

Shalaera - Bet Tracking!

She'd really been enjoying her sleep. It had taken about 4 separate nudges to fully wake up the Firelizard Breeder so she could be invited to come and watch. She blinked blearily and it took the same statement being repeated at least two more times before she nodded and slowly began to dress herself.

One did not greet baby dragons in their night dress, after all, and she needed to find her sheet of bets to keep an eye on everything. In the crumpled bedding, the woman's flitters stirred tiredly. She took a moment to kiss each of their foreheads. "There, there. You can wait here if you so like, sweethearts," she cooed. Her littlest blue stirred, stretching and kreeling until the woman picked him up. Wallow, perhaps, would be her date for this while the others dozed.

If they joined later for missing body heat would remain to be seen. For the time being, however, she made a point to follow after other crafters and cavern workers who seemed to have a bit of a better idea as to where they were headed.

It wouldn't take long for a familiar face to call out to her. "Good morning, Rinis....." she murmured tiredly, taking a seat next to the apprentice as she allowed Wallow his curious sniff of Bourbon before he reeled back - almost like a flinch of fear - and climbed up onto the woman's shoulder to peer warily again in her direction.

[No bets being tracked yet! You have until the first egg hatches ;P]

Abrupt, as always. Eggs did what they were going to do, when babies decided that it was time, the whole Weyr would rise for them and that was how it was always going to be. Xanael had risen from bed immediately and scrubbed down, pulling on candidate whites and then following the rest out onto the sands. It was no different than if he'd scrambled out of his cot at night for a runner giving birth to a foal, but at the same time it was completely different all at once.

Just standing, sweating already on the warmth of the sands as the heat just rolled off of it, he looked carefully over the still shells of the eggs. Not a shudder or a wiggle at all, but a gold knew what a gold knew and he was trained well enough at this point to understand that a clutch mother would only raise the Weyr if it was time. So it was certainly time and enough.

Xan found a spot to stand, knowing a few on the sands, but none of them well enough to walk over and stand with them. So alone he faced whatever future these set of sands had for him.

Candidate Jaiyce- Western

((open for all interaction!))
He'd been known to be a pretty light sleeper, at least until he'd arrived at Western and the work of candidacy left him fairly tired, some days he felt he was asleep before his head had full hit the pillow. Tonight had been one of those nights- so thankfully he'd gotten a good few hours in before he was stirred. The moment he awoke he knew *something* was different, and looking around the barracks seeing white robes come out he almost let out a whoop of joy. He was up and moving, grabbing his robe, doing a through wash, albiet it quick, and putting the robe and the thin sandals on.

Getting to the sands he paused before entering- and took a deep breath to center himself. A lot was riding on this- figuratively and literally. He was hell bent to keep it together this time. His whoop of joy finally finding an outlet in the glowing grin that made his eyes sparkle as he stepped in, and made his way to the sands, Bowing low to the Gold Queen Killakeeth, whom had searched him to be here. Still grinning he looked for Vosin to give her a quick nod as he found an empty space on the sands to stand, as Candidate Jaiyce.

Vesden | High Reaches | He/Him

H-what? Eggs? Eggs! The eggs! The sun wasn't even up yet, why did they have to pick this hour?! Vesden had been tripping over himself in a rush to get ready and get to Western. He had his boots on and half tied before he remembered they weren't allowed and nothing but adrenaline was keeping his eyes open as he made himself presentable.

The cold of between did a bit of good toward waking him up but nothing for his nerves. Between the excitement in the air, the thrum of the dragons, and his own anticipation he was a step away from jittery as he made his way onto the sands. He repeated all the instructions they'd been given over and over in his mind; this was not the test to fail, failing here might mean someone's death.

With a deep breath, he glanced to the candidate beside him and recognized the one who'd bumped the egg at the first touching. That was alright, he was sure that had been a harrowing experiencing, the guy was probably more determined than anyone not to mess up this time.

"Ready?" He asked, allowing himself a bit of a nervous grin. This was it, it was happening!

Velara
Even though it was late at night, Velara hadn't been ready to settle for sleep just yet, so when the sounds of excitement about the hatching started she was more than ready to slip into her whites, and sandals and make her way out to the Hatching Sands. Reaching the Sands, she made sure to make her obeisance to the parents, their riders and made her way to the edge, waiting excitedly for what was too come.

Melhaika
It was not pleasant to be woken up in the middle of the night, no matter what the reason, and he was generally a bear until he was able to fully wake up, so by the time he was dressed, and ferried to Western with the other candidates, he was almost awake, almost pleasant, and almost ready to be excited to see if he might actually Impress this time...

He made sure to mind his manners, giving his respects to those who deserved it – the golden queen, the father of the clutch and the riders. He then made his way to stand. To see. To wait. To hope that perhaps he had changed enough, made himself vulnerable enough that he might find his partner this time.

Tandry
It was not what he had signed up for, per say, to be awoken in the middle of the night, to be rushed from one weyr to another. But perhaps it was something good, an adventure... and that was the one thing he missed from giving up his caravan...

As everyone else ahead of him, and those who were to come after, he paid his respects and made his way to the edge of the sands to Stand.

Lelte
Eeeeee, no matter that it was late, and if she had her druthers, she would be sleeping, but it was a time to be excited. Thrilled more like. Because it was time for eggs to hatch, and new lives to make their way into the world. And perhaps, just perhaps she might find the soul out there that was meant to complement her own. And if not her, perhaps her brother or one of her friends.

She jumped out of bed at the first thought of the Hatching, threw her whites and sandals on, and rushed out to the dragons who were meant to be ferrying the candidates to Western. She was more than ready for this Hatching. More than excited to meet the new dragonets.
